You would pay a very high premium since you are already pregnant. I contacted Pacific Prime and they sent me quotes for various insurance companies, and when I enquired about the rates if I was already pregnant, I would have paid 30,000+ more. I suggest you contact them for quotes if you want to get insurance. Alternatively, you could start your appointments at Latifa Hospital and get their antenatal and delivery packages. The total cost would come to about 15,000 dhs, for everything, excluding extras like epidural etc of course. If you do a search here you will find very good reviews about the hospital. Good luck!

Theres a new Dubai British School in Jumeirah Park, and DBS has a good reputation. [url=http://www.dubaibritishschooljp.ae/'>http://www.dubaibritishschooljp.ae/[/url'> Maybe if you give your budget for fees we can suggest some good schools :) All the old established ones will be fulll for the 2016-2017 school year, so you'll probably have to look at new schools.

For some business ideas/inspiration, read through the Shopify blog, sor other similar entrepreneurial blogs, something might inspire you: [url=https://www.shopify.com/blog'>https://www.shopify.com/blog[/url'> Personally, I believe if you want to be successful in a business you have to be really passionate about what you are selling, and the industry you choose to go into. A good approach would be that between you and your partners you figure out your skills sets, what you're passionate aabout, and the ideas will start coming.

Hi GHD here is very overpriced. It's available at Nazih beauty supplies on Sheikh Zayed Road for 800dhs from what I recall. You can order from LookFantastic.com they deliver for free to UAE, I use them often, but it can take 3-4 weeks and they send it via post. To be safe I put both my PO Box and Home address! [url=http://www.lookfantastic.com/health-beauty/ghd/ghd-hair-irons.list?widget_id=93710'>http://www.lookfantastic.com/health-beauty/ghd/ghd-hair-irons.list?widget_id=93710[/url'> Personally I have a Babyliss PRO straightener that I've had for 5 years now and it wors amazingly well, I got that from Nazih, about 300dhs. I used my friends GHD and think my Babyliss is better!

Office PO Boxes ar notoriously slow. By the time the package reaches the PO Box, the office staff collect it, then filter it, then deliver to your office department it can take another week! I have a personal PO Box and even then it was 3 weeks+, so yours might be 4weeks + wait! Dont worry about the website though, they are reliable !

I use them often, it can take 3 -4 weeks. Did you give a postal address? Mine come by post so it takes a while. If you gave a home address it might have been sent back. Call the Karama Post Office (central one) and give the tracking number, they might be able to check for you.

Hello ladies, looking for some advice.... My kids are going to the Ontario school in Mirdif. They are in Arabic classes for non-Arab speakers however my daughter in grade 3 has been put in the Islamic Studies class (she says there are 2 classes there) Islamic studies for muslim children where the class is taught in arabic and then one for the rest and the class is taught in English. Is that how it works here?? Everyone has to take Islamic studies? Any insight appreciated. Hi Chocochic, You havent mentioned if you are Muslim? If you are a non-Arabic speaking Muslim family, she will attend Islamic Studies, but you can put her in the English section.

That sounds fair, especially if your house is not big. I recently hired a nanny after a 2 month extensive search and it was quite difficult. I had nannies coming from 4 bedroom villas where they took care of 2 kids, asking for 3000dhs! I have a 1 bedroom apartment and 1 child who goes to school, so no way I could justify their demands because obviously there wasn't as much work as their previous job. Nationality-wise, from my experience, nannies from Philippines expect 2000dhs+ because they are in so much demand here and it's virtually impossible to bring a new one over from Philippines (I have tried!) . The ones who had been here a few years asked for 2500dhs. Usually the ones on visit visas were happy with 2000. Also they expect 1 day off a week, paid annual leave for 30 days, and you covering cost of food, transport (if they live out) and toiletries etc. If you hire someone from Sri Lanka or Indonesia they will be happy with 1800dhs. p.s. you might get posts now saying OMG how can you give 1800 thats too low, but I know not everyone has huge budgets and still need help, so if you find a nanny whose happy with that, its no one elses concern!

Have you applied for the new residency visa? If so, you might not have to pay the penalty. My daughter was inbetween a visa change, and had cancelled her old one, and within her 30 days grace period we applied for the new visa. After her 30 day grade period, at immigration initially they said she had overstayed and we would pay the fine and/or she would have to leave the country, but after some arguiing from our PRO who showed the receipts etc to prove we had applied for the new visa within the grace period it just wasn't ready yet, they let it go. Best to go to immigration and check, and if you have an Arabic speaking PRO with you it really helps.

I agree, you need a full time nanny, else it's quite diificult. When I returned to work my daughter was 11 months old and got sick every 3-4 weeks pretty much. We had no nanny and I had zero flexibility in my job and couldnt take days off or even leave early, but thankfully my husband had flexible timings so was able to stay home with her those days. There are also the half-term and end of term breaks at nurseries, and sometimes they wont have a holiday camp to send the kids to, so again you'll need someone home with them.

Those brands will be overpriced here, always. For instance, Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation at Sephora/Paris Gallery in UAE is 220dhs, in Canada it's approx. 120dhs after tax. If you want inbetween products, NYX is good and available at Lifestyle stores (or online at landmarkshops.com). You can also browse LookFantastic.com and FeelUnique.com, they carry a range of international makeup brands and deliver to UAE with Free Shipping after a minimum spend. I order Maybelline, L'Oreal etc from them and it's so much cheaper than UAE prices. My Maybelline eyeliner costs 20dhs from FeelUnique.com, at Lifestyle it's for 35dhs.

Hi! Congrats on your pregnancy! I'm also 4 months along now :) This board used to be buzzing with activity but unfortunately has quietened down now. Still some searches will turn up results for doulas and reviews for Al Zahra hospital. I haven't had experience with hypnobrthing either. I had read hypnobrithing and natural birth books earlier for my first baby, but when I went into labour my daughters heartrate dropped very low and had to be monitored throughout, which meant I was strapped into the bed with a heartrate monitor on for the baby and couldnt move around - the exercises and tips I had learnt couldnt be used! There are a few threads on here about them though. As for the hospital, does your insurance cover American Hospital or City Hospital? They are known for great maternity care and their doctors are excellent. I'm seeing Dr. Raj at American Hospital and I'm super happy with her, and know many friends who have delivered with her and been happy. Dr Braithwaite is at the same hospital and also has great reviews. I would recommend seeing an in-house doctor than a clinic doctor for pregnancy - I heard a story from a friend who was seeing a clinic doctor for her pregnancy who delivered at Medcare, but when it came time for the delivery the doctor wasn't able to reach in time. The hospital was very confused about what to do and kept her waiting a long time. She said the doctor reached in just enough time to catch the baby's head basically, the rest was all done by midwives and she wasn't able to get epidural in time either. :(

Thanks Oopsiedaidy. I spoke to them, they said she cant work for us because her visa with us is not stamped on her passport, and I replied she can because we have paperwork to prove to the authorities that we have started her visa process, whereas all they have is a cancelled visa. They wanted a guaruntee that they will get their deposit back and proof that we have started her visa process, I told them I am not legally olbigated to show them anything (right?!) but will send the visa payment forms and receipts to them to give them peace of mind. I repeatedly assured them I will keep them updated on the visa progress and ensure they get their deposit back. They are still hesitant about releasing her, I think they were planning on keeping her captive till her new visa was physically stamped on, but I've told them they cannot hold her to stay with them. I've given them a deadline that she has to start working with me, I'm hoping that they honor it. What are my rights here? What if they don't release her on the agreed date? I can't exactly show up at their house, and I don't want her to run away from them its just unnecessary drama. I'm trying to do everything by the book but they are making it very stressful :( As it is I'm 4 months pregnant and have been searching for a maid for months, just getting really frustrated now !

Thanks for the input ladies. We've already started her visa process, can her previous employers get their depost back, or only when her visa is actually ready and printed? They are being very difficult and threatening to send her back to Philippines if her visa isn't ready next week, even though she has another 2 weeks till her grace period finishes and irregardless - as long as we have started her visa process she will not be charged overstay if her visa is not ready by the date of her grace period, I've been through a similar process before. I've told the maid that I've already paid for her visa to be processed so her ex-employers have no authority to send her back. I've asked to speak to her employer myself, I just cant believe some people can be so difficult!

Hi I'm not sure what the school policies usually are in this matter. What techniques have you tried to train him? You still have time till schools open, have you tried removing the pamper and underwear - most kids find it so yucky to soil their clothes they eventually start telling their parents when they want to go the toilet.

Hi I'm sure you are aware this is illegal, and the site you mention will have maids who need sponsorship which you can't provide. If you put up an ad on expatwoman they will remove it since it's against their policy. I know it's crazy expensive to sponsor a maid here and not always an option, but that is the law . No one here will judge you, they will just advise you on avoiding the illegal route. Also, a maid not on your sponsorhsip has no accountability to you, incase something goes wrong, you cannot even go to the police. One of my coworkers has her mother in law come down on the 3 month tourist visa to help with the baby, and then she exits and comes back again on a new tourist visa. Much cheaper than a nanny and it's a trusted family member. Could be an option. Good luck!

Hi Theres a similar thread in the nurseries section: [url=http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic243254-nurseries-for-infantsbabies--discovery-gardens-jlt-marina-forum43.aspx'>http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic243254-nurseries-for-infantsbabies--discovery-gardens-jlt-marina-forum43.aspx[/url'> If you are returning to work, this means you'll be sending them a full day 8am till 5pm 5 days a week so it will be quite expensive. When I went back to work 3 years ago we used to pay AED14,000+ per term for a full day 5 times a week, could be even more now .

A lot of the well establised schools such as Welllington Intl will be full. You will most likely have to send them to the newer schools, like Dubai British School in Jumeirah Park. This is a really useful map to find schools close to your area: [url=http://whichschooladvisor.com/dubai-interactive-map-uae-school-map/'>http://whichschooladvisor.com/dubai-interactive-map-uae-school-map/[/url'> That website is also very useful for school reports and reviews. I suggest you narrow down some schools that appeal to you, check their review on Which School Advisor and Expatwoman posts, and then call and check if they have spaces. Good luck!

I think American Hospital is a good choice - I'm currently seeing Dr Raj and she's great, and I have friends who have delivered with both Dr Raj and Dr Braithwaite and I've heard only good things. American Hospital is also the costliest, so as long as your insurance covers it you'll be fine. Good luck!

It seems there are more nurseries in Umm Suqeim to cater to that age, like Childrens Garden nursery . Have you checked the British Orchard nursery in Media City? I found this link that has a list of nurseries in Marina/Media City area, and ages are listed there too: [url=https://www.angloinfo.com/dubai/directory/dubai-nurseries-dubai-marina-jumeirah-lakes-tower-621'>https://www.angloinfo.com/dubai/directory/dubai-nurseries-dubai-marina-jumeirah-lakes-tower-621[/url'> [b'> Childrens Oasis Play Centre[/b'> Drop off daycare center located at Al Shalal Beach Club on Palm Jumeirah. Accepts children from two months. [b'> Kids Kingdom Learning Center[/b'> Nursery and pre-school for children from 45 days old to 4 years old. Follows the EYFS curriculum. Located at Cluster L [b'>Four2Four Nursery & Day Care[/b'> Nursery and pre-school for children 4 months to 4 years old. Full day care from 07:00-19:00. Located at Gold Crest Views As for the nanny route, I think a daycare/nursery is a much safer option. I went back to work when my daughter was 11 months old and felt much more relaxed that she was in a safe environment with trained teachers and other kids. If anything happens, there is accountability. I do understand with a nanny you might feel better because the baby is still at home, but I think I would still choose a nursery over a nannay at such a small age. Good luck!

I went to Threads for my daughters uniform and they were out of stock in her size. They said to place an order online but it can take up to 3 weeks, I told them her school is opening in 2 weeks and they said they cant do anything about it! I'm shocked that at this peak busy season they would not have correct sizes in stock! Horrible service. Anyways, how strict are schools about uniform? At her nursery it was alright to come in without uniform once in a while, I'm sure schools are much stricter. Could I send her in her PE shirt? The schools should be accomodating since it's their suppliers mistake for not having sizes in stock.

Usually its a 2 days and 2 nights stay, especially if you are getting the package. Depending on medical needs, could be more.

From what I have heard, Dr Luthra is a skilled doctor but not the best personality to deal with, so that puts a lot of people off. On a side note, I had my baby at Medcare 4 years ago (a different doctor who has now left) and while the hospital was alright I was not happy with the doctors. My gynae was very panicked and didnt help put me to ease at all, and the pediatrician misdiagnosed my daughers jaundice, ran a lot of unnecessary tests and we felt like they were making a big deal out of it just to get money from us. If your friends can deliver at City Hospital or American Hospital (Dr Raj and Dr Braithaite have great reviews) with her insurance, those would be better options.

I do know someone who used NanniesDubai and found a good maid too, but I do think 3000dhs registration is too much - but she needed someone urgently so it worked for her.

Since you will be working you should also choose a university close to you. Canadian University is at the beginning if Sheikh Zayed Road. AUD is at the other end. I went to AUD for Undergrad and I've heard their Masters program is quite intense. A lot of ppl from AUD went to Wollongong for Masters since it was comparatively easier.

Hi Im a working mum too, and I dont know of any places that classes at that time unfortunately, probably because kids are usually quite tired by evening. I spend quality time with DD after work in other ways - take her swimming (we have a pool in the building), or at home we paint/ play puzzles/read/pretend play with her toys or just sit on the couch and watch a new movie together (and discuss the things are happening) on the days I'm really tired! If you want more kids acitivies, you can put on nursery rhymes on YouTube and sing them along with the actions with her, or even just dance around the living room. She'll love the quality time with you, and it's not going to cost much either :)

I'm not sure where your kids are playing these games, but if it's at home while you are away at work you can easily control it. Lock away the play consoles and iPads, parental controls on the computer and smartphone, and leave them productive activities to do like puzzles/painting anything else they enjoy. We can't really strop the gaming industry or violent TV shows, but you can control what you let into your home.

Hi, has she found a job already? If not would love to get her contact details. Thanks!! Try the below Tanzania (Africa) lady Am looking for a job as nanny/house girl, I have experience of one year in UAE, Am good with kids of all ages, hardworking and quick learner. My visa is cancelled now on grace period of one month. Any family looking for a nanny/house girl may contact me for more details. I prefer families from British, Canadian, American, South African, Swedish background for easy communication. Am ready for interview anytime during the day. NO time wasters please as I have a very short time left. I will need Friday off, and accommodation. Try me and you will never regret!!!!! Sorry I find it a bit offensive when nannies post their preference of nationalities in an ad. If her basis is communication, most expats here speak English well, irregardless of their country of origin. I was recently communicating with a nice sounding nanny over the phone, and my accent is heavily American so I think she assumed I'm American, - then she asked my nationality and I told her and she abruptly just said "madam sorry I cannot come"!

I'm a bit confused and wanted some clarity. Aftr searching high and low for a nanny, I've finally found someone and her visa is expiring next week. We are ready to start her process immediately, but her employers are insisting she spend her 30 day grace period after visa cancellation with them and then start with us after. They are saying she will not get an overstay fine. However, the grace period is there to help her find work, and if we start her visa process then she is obliged to work for us, right? They are telling her she is not allowed to work for us until her visa is ready. It really seems to me they are just trying to keep her on as long as possible, and it's realy annoying me!

What price range are you looking at? Monsoon has a lot of party dresses but usualy around 400dhs. On sale you can grab them for 200dhs usually. Also check Gymboree, they have a few but usually quite pretty - again 200dhs+. Same with Mothercare. If you're looking for a more reasonable option, Mom&me carries a few party dresses.

I wouldn't recommend he leave his daughter home with a male nanny, not sure how safe that would be. :( Has he looked at agencies like Howdra? They sponsor the maid for you, the maid is live in 24 hours a day, with one day off a week. When I last enquired they take 3000dhs a month, could be more now but you save the costs and stress of sponsorship. Link to a thread abot Howdra: [url=http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic231629-another-company-like-howdra-forum23.aspx'>http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic231629-another-company-like-howdra-forum23.aspx[/url'> Do a search on here for Howdra, the names of other similar companies will pop up too.

I did this a few months ago and it was a nightmare. As the maid has worked in the Gulf before, the Philippines Authorities will not just let her leave to Singapore or HK, she needs to have a sponsor there ie a family member. We tried it without the sponsorship and she was turned back at immigration. So the process which worked went something like this: her sister went to the Phils embassy in HK and filled out a form for her to visit her in HK. A copy of this was given to the maid who was then allowed to leave the country to HK. I fedexed the UAE tourist visa to a hotel I had booked in HK, along with a copy of the HK DXB ticket. The maid also needs to show she has sufficient funds to leave the country, so we sent money Western Union, and she bought her own flight ticket with this money, as it was getting complicated trying to arrange it with a travel agent in Manila. It was very challenging, long winded and expensive, but it worked out. Note once you get her into Dubai on a tourist visa, she has to leave the country to change the status to a work visa (day trip to Muscat). Anyway, hope this helps! Hi BigA Thanks for your detailed reply! So you sent her money for her to buy her own ticket from PH to HK, and you purchased her ticket for HK to DXB and sent it to her? I'm trying to bring my nanny over through Thailand - will she need to show money at Philippines airport to spend in Thailand? Then I will buy her ticket for TH to DXB once I know she's cleared Philippines immigration. Do you think that will work?

I had a maid like this who always thought she knew better than me. For instance, I told her to boil rice for my daughter and she said "But Ma'am she had rice yesterday" and I told her to make it anyway. When I come back later and she's cooking pasta - when I asked her why I got them same reply - "But Ma'am she had rice yesterday", and I told her if I said rice then she has to make rice! Something so simple! I completely understand your frustration, and I hate making a scene too, especially if this person is looking after my child I dont want her taking out her anger at me on my child. You say she keeps wanting to take her out, I also think she has friends/boyfriend that she wants to meet outside so she uses your child as an excuse. Some maids unfortunately dont respect the boss-employee boundaries and need to be put in their place. Ultimately though, you will need to find someone new, this maid sounds quite headstrong so not sure how much she will be willing to change. Good luck!

If they've given you residency visa then perhaps they will give insurance too. Best to e-mail them and ask! AXA is quite reasonable compared to others.
