Hi If you do a search here you'll see alot of positive threads about silicon oasis (also knows as DSO), it seems to be a nice community, tho far from the main city (a 10-15 minute drive) but easily accessible roads. My DD will start FS2 at Wellington DSO in Sep and we are looking to move there too. For the school, we really liked the teachers and the kids seemed happy, and it was organized despite the fact that it's such a big school. Great facilities too, but you will hear mixed reviews about the teaching. For the villas, we saw the villas and they are lovely with nice finishing. There's 2 types of villas: Cedre and Semmer. I love the design of the modern ones (Cedre) and we had an agent show us 3 different styles and they were all very well laid out and spacious. Rents are also reasonable compared to the rest of Dubai - what you'll pay for a spacious 4 br villa is what you would pay for a medium sized 2br apartment in the city. DSO has their own leasing agents who you can call and they'll let you view the houses, I spoke with Saeed who was very helpful: 050 626 4446 Good luck!

That sounds a lot like my DD when she was a baby, and she had silent reflux which we didnt know at the time. She used to drink milk well, but later the milk would come up and she would scream and make gulping noises because she was swallowing the milk back down. This made her a horrible sleeper, and we had no idea what it was until she was a year old because she rarely threw the milk out. Just some things to look for which might indicate silent refulx: - Loves being carried and held up (this keeps the milk down) - Cries / fusses/ screams when put down onto cot or pushchair (lying down brings the milk up) - Wakes often at night, will go from deep sleep to suddenly crying and screaming - Naps are short in the day, and difficult to make them nap in the first place Tessa21's advice is great and it sounds a lot like the Gina Ford book I read when DD was a baby, but unfortunately most of the advice didn't work since it was her stomach that was irritating her, and not that she needed sleep training. For instance, if I didnt pick her up when she fussed she would go from screaming to hysterical to ballistic and I would feel cruel for not picking her, it was very hard. Your child's sleep issues could just be that you need to start sleep training and nothing else, but it's best to get it checked ... I wish I had with DD earlier - I would recommend Dr Loubser as well, he specializes in gastro issues. Good luck and hang in there!

I have really sensitive skin with rosacea and acne (horrible combination!). I use the Korean brand Innisfree and love their prodcts, so far the only skincare that doesn't irritate my skin. They have anti-aging line too, their green tea serum is really good. I buy it from The BB Cream Girl website: [url=https://www.thebbcreamgirl.com/collections/innisfree/skincare-1'>https://www.thebbcreamgirl.com/collections/innisfree/skincare-1[/url'>

Have you been using fruit wax a long time? I started fruit wax but it made my skin irritated and I would get spots after, it was recommended to me to stick to normal sugar wax. The fruit waxes contain added chemicals, it could be over time it has caused these spots for you. Also go for regular Moroccan baths, groupon usually has good deals.

Olga is an excellent physiotherapist at GMC Clinic Jumeirah, they have direct billing with a lot of insurance companies. Also, insurance companies usually just give you a list of clinics that do direct billing with - that could be the list they've already sent to you. Then you call and check with the clinics if they have physiotherapists.

We didnt have insurance for our nanny either, and she suffered from back pain one time, and we took her to Aster Clinic. It was very cheap overall, she had consultation and an injection and medicines, the whole thing came to AED 350. There is no point getting insurance now, it will be cheaper to take her to Aster.

Hi Rita, A coworker of mine is in a similar situation, her husband has long unusual hours and they only have 1 car, and she finds the nursery fees too much for them. Their solution has been to bring her mother in law on a visit visa to Dubai, and she stays home all day to look after the baby. When her visa expires they renew it, or sometimes she has to fly back and then come back, which still comes to cheaper for them than a nanny or nursery. This is an option for you if you have a close relative who you trust and can come down. Call up some other nurseries and get their rates, you might find something for less, but you have to make sure the timings work for you. I don't think a part-time agency nanny will work because you wont know anything about her, and the agency might keep changing the nanny which might confuse/upset your baby.

I sent my daughter to nursery when she was 11 months old and I went back to work. Looking back, I would have preferred to keep her at home with a nanny (full-time live in) for the reasons mentioned by brie03, also not to mention the stress of pickup and drop timings, peace of mind that shes home, and not worrying about germs from other kids and sick days (my daughter got sick basically every 2-3 weeks when she started nursery). In terms of socialization, I thought that then too, but my DD is very shy and quiet, and I think going to nursery was stressful for her to be in a totally new place and new adults and so many kids. I don't think it benefitted her much, she is still extremely shy and wary of new situations. I think she would have been more relaxed and happy in a familiar environment at home with a familiar person, the nanny - not too much change going on. You should see your childs personality - if he/she is very active, outgoing then they will love nursery. If they are shy, quiet maybe they will be more relaxed at home. Personally I dont think a 10 month old cares much about socialization, it's more about giving them a stable nurturing environment. If you do go the nanny route, try to find a good live in who is good with kids and will keep him/her engaged and busy while you are out, not just keep an iPad in the childs face! For nurseries, if you go that route, find a good nursery close to your house or office to save commute time. There is a British Orchard in Media City in Business Central Towers, I'm sure there are others too. Also keep in mind if your child is sick and needs to stay home, can you or your husband take the day off to stay with them? Cost-wise, a good nursery 5 days a week till 5-6pm will cost you about AED14,000+ per term. For a live in nanny be prepared to pay AED2000+ per month, apart from the initial deposits etc. Please do not find an illegal part time nanny on husbands visa situation as tempting as that might be, they will have no accountability and I would not trust someone like that at home with my child. Good luck!

I wanted to thank you for the AST Printing recommendation. I needed a large quantity printed asap, and they printed and delivered [u'>(free delivery!)[/u'> within 24 hours of me e-mailing the final file. They responded quickly to mails and calls, and the print quality was AMAZING (and I'm very picky since I'm a graphic designer). Their prices were also very reasonable, some places charge ridiculous amounts but they were very fair. I can't recommend them enough! Thanks again for the recommendation.

I think another option you could consider would be to get a full time live in nanny, so she can watch your little one when you are at work. If you find someone you can trust, it will be a lot less stressful for you than leaving your baby at nursery - no worrying about pick up and drop off timings, especially if you ever need to stay back late and work. If you get a nanny now, your baby wil be used to her and be comfortable being home with her all day, and so will you. Just an option to consider. I went back to wok when DD was 11 months old and she went to nursery till 5pm everyday. Much later when DD was 2.5 years we found a lovely full time nanny. I wish we had found her sooner, I would have much preferred leaving DD at home with the nanny when she had been so small, but it's a personal preference ultimately.

I recommended Safa to a friend based on positive reviews here, and she said she liked it but felt like it was a bit disorganized (they lost a child from her sons class on the first day) and the teachers don't keep her up to date as much as she would like. Most schools will have mixed reviews though, so I recommend you go for a tour yourself and see how you feel.

USPS is cheaper because it's post (delivery to PO Box), not a courier (delivery to home/office address). USPS has also lost my packages, and tracking is not up to date.

Another option, and much less risky, is to homeschool. There are quite a few threads here from mums who homeschool and had a positive experience. As another poster said, be careful of getting into debt since fees do have to get paid eventually. Here there is no sympathy for late payments.

The good schools that are close to Meydan would be - Kings Nad Al Sheba (a lot of it is still under construction though) - GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis - Repton New schools that are close by, but not sure how good they are: - Hartland - Kent College The other schools mentioned in other posts are in the Jumeirah/Safa area so you would get quite a bit of traffic in your commute. The ones I've mentioned are in the less populated areas, and a 10-15 minute drive away from you.

Hi I know paying a terms fees all at once can put a strain on your wallet :( As HorizonMum2 said, incase asking for a discount doesnt work, it might be best to move your child out of the school into a less expensive school, until things smooth out. As just as an fyi, GEMS schools have a GEMS credit card with NBAD, where you can pay the fees through the card, and then turn into 12 month interest free installments. So if you pay 12000 per term for example, it would spread out to 1000 per month (until of course next term you use it again and your amount due would become 2000 per month) but it sure beats paying 12,000 at once. Also you get 7% discount if you pay the fees for the school year in advance. If you do consider applying, they require a salary certificate which you wont be able to provide, but hopefully your husbands ban account statement will suffice. There's a thread about the card here: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic201766-nbad-credit-for-gems-schools-forum23.aspx Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi, I sponsored my husband, and when he got the visa they clearly said as soon as he finds a job he has to change his visa to the new company. Husbands are not allowed to work while on their wife's visa, even if she gives an NOC. It does work the other way around - women can work on husbands visa, as long as he gives NOC. Not the same for men on their wife's sponsorship, unfortunately. If an agency is looking for a man on wife's sponsorship, that would be illegal.

Hi, Just some general tips: - WEBSITE: Having a website makes you look more legit. Try making a basic Wordpress website, it's quite easy to grasp and will add credibility to your business. If you can start a blog section it would be great to share with other pet owners, and help your Google search page rankings, if people look up 'pets dubai' 'petsitting dubai' etc. - If you have a trade license, also mention that you are a registered business in your FB page, on your website, etc , it adds to trust when people are leaving their pets with you. - INSTAGRAM: is super effective at attracting customers, but you need rich content, like links to your blog posts, useful information and the cute meme here and there (like your FB page currently has). You can also advertise on instagram with sponsored posts - TESTIMONIALS: on your FB page, Instagram page, website will really help

Hi LaDiDa00, You are right to feel upset, the system here is absurd to assess such small children in a new environment with new teachers and new kids, away from their parents. I went through the same thing you are going through last year when my July-born DD didn't do well in her FS1 assessments - she's one of the youngest, and she is very smart but extremely shy so she was too scared in her assessments and cried the whole time. I decided to send her to Little Gems nursery for FS1 which helped her get placement for FS2 in a Gems school - they took assessments at the nursery and based the placement on nursery reports, which is what I think ALL schools should do here anyways. It sounds like your child should have passed which must be more frustrating for you, but I honestly think most schools here take assessments even though they are full, just to make money off registration fees. I know so many friends who thought their kid passed the assessment but they later got a rejection, and they are now panicking. Do you have any other schools you could apply to? Some of the newer schools might still have places, like Kings Nad Al Sheba (though the new school's fees are very high so depends on your budget). Hang tight, don't worry, just keep trying something will work out!

She's taking you for a ride, as domestic help she is not entitled to gratuity, and even regular employees get: 21 day's wages for each year of the first five years (not 1 month as she is saying). You have been more than generous to her financially, it's horrid of her to be so ungrateful and demand more money.

You can buy a decent cot on Dubizzle for a fraction of the store price, and then buy a new mattress from the store(babyshop mattresses are cheaper and fit Pottery Barn cot size, Mothercare has their own unique size). We bought a moses basket for my daughter which we used for a total of 2 months, it was such a waste of money. I would recommend buying a cot it will last you many years. Products: I used Johnsons initially it made DDs skin very dry, Mustela works great but it is expensive, Babyshop does have offers on Mustela from time to time.

Hi Here are your options in Dubai - you will need a residency visa for all of them. - If your husband has a full time job, his company will give him and you health insurance which will cover maternity even if you are already pregnant. This is ideal since it will not cost you anything to get the insurance. Ask your husband to check with his HR team. He can get this at any point in your pregnancy, so you can wait a few months till your residency visa is sorted. We got mine from my husbands company and I was already 3 months. We paid only for the baby's costs after delivery and for my epidural. - You can buy a package from a hospital even if youre already pregnant, I know that Latifa and City and American Hospital have these. They will cover major scans and tests from 12 weeks till 40 weeks from 5000-9000dhs. The delivery is a seperate package that covers a normal delivery (2 nights stay in the room as well) which will cost about 9000-14000dhs depending on the hospital. These are a good bet if your delivery goes smoothly, but if anything gets complicated they will not cover those additional costs. (fyi Latifa is one of the best and cheaper since its a government hospital) - Buy insurance but since you are already pregnant but it will cost a LOT, about 30,000dhs +. There is no waiting period for maternity now which would have cost you about 13,000dhs for a decent insurance but since you are already pregnant the price shoots up. - You could go back home to have the baby and then come back, a lot of people do. Good luck!

It;s best you call up your Plan B schools and ask them, and better to do it this week while the schools are still open. Good luck and dont worry!

Kidnappings can happen whenever you leave your child alone in a public place, so I wouldn't highlight that it was because the father went to pray. He actually could have taken her inside with him, children are allowed in Mosques so I would imagine they are allowed in prayer rooms. I remember a case where a dad stopped his car at a gas station and left his daughter inside, and someone stole the car with the daughter in it. I couldn't find that story again but found this from Norway: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2592787/Every-parents-nightmare-Mothers-car-stolen-petrol-station-eight-year-old-son-slept-back.html These incidents happen all around the world, and just boils down to parents not watching their kids properly. I hope that little girl is found, so horrifying :(

I completely agree, the system is a bit messed up. My daughter is one of the youngest in her class and is also very shy, so she didnt do well on her FS1 assessment last year. I do think it's unfair to assess them on 10 minutes where they are separated from their parents, in a new environment, new teachers and new kids. Most kids would freak out. For my daughter i moved her to Little Gems for FS1, so that her FS2 assessments will be done at the nursery and also be based on her teachers report. I think this is a much better system for assessments. If you're happy with your child attending a GEMS school, then this could be an option for you.

Hi I know how you feel it's very stressful. I went back to work when my daughter was 11 months old and we didn't have a nanny the first year I was working, but the only reason we were able to make it work was because DH was self employed then so his timings were flexible, whereas my company unfortunately gave me no flexibility.. Now we have a full-time maid and it definitely is a huge comfort for my daughters mid term holidays and sick days off from nursery. I would advise if you can find a maid from Sri Lanka, they are quite good with kids and loving, and will take a smaller salary than nannies from Philippines, about 1500-2000. If you really can't get a maid, then try to find work where your boss is flexible or just get a part-time job for now. If your field is relevant, you can find a job in a nursery or preschool where the hours are shorter and more holidays than usual office jobs. Good luck! Edited to add: Another post here has aid there are nurseries that offer long hours and hardly any days off, but in my search I didn't find a nursery that was open 5 days week (apart from public holidays) - they always had a "mid term break" or "term break" which might even be 2 -3 days but would create such stress for us. Yes most do have camps in between terms but they are not always for the full length of the holiday. Maybe someone here can recommend a nursery that is open (almost) all year.

I'm so glad I saw this post! I contacted so many maids and they show an interest initially and then disappear. They also want really high salaries 3000+ which not everyone can afford! We have a small apartment and 1 child who goes to nursery pretty much all day, I cant justify such a high salary for the amount of work she will do, but they don't understand that. I think the Filipinas here know they are in high demand due to the difficulty in bringing new domestic help from Philippines at the moment.

Hi I know it's really stressful :( Most of the popular schools are full though and have waiting lists. Is it a GEMS school? If it is, I think you can call and follow up on why your child's assessment was unsuccessful. Don't take it personally, most likely it's just a space issue, you will probably have a better chance applying to one of the new schools. Good luck!
