Admin please reduce the space between threads on the main page, they are WAY too far apart to be easy-to-read, they actually are harder to follow. I'm a designer so I'm all for negative space, but this just looks like an error.

Your male friend is a total **** and an even bigger **** for telling you and putting you in a weird situation. If you dont tell your friend, and she finds out later that you knew all along, she will hate you. If you tell her now, she will hate him and he will hate you. This guy clearly doesnt feel guilty or any remorse, he seems to be gloating about it really, so I highly doubt he'll stop cheating any time soon (if ever). I don't think you owe him any loyality. <em>edited by sourskittleashnut on 11/05/2015</em>

Hi ladies, I usually have no problem using my Paypal/NBD card on various USA websites (amazon, gymboree). I came across Ulta.com and they said my card is outside of USA and they cannot accept as a payment method. I tried my Paypal, then made a new Paypal using my USA address and USD as the currency, linked my other NBD card, but somehow Ulta.com still detects my account is outside US! How do I get a USA card or is there a way around this? Experience appreciated, thanks! p.s. I tired other websites to get the same products like beauty.com and walgreens.com, all detect that my card is non-US :( p.p.s. title should say "Now What?" but I can't change it lolz <em>edited by sourskittleashnut on 10/05/2015</em>

Thats like asking "What is the BEST lipstick?" MAC...Viva Glam :) LOL, for me it's MAC's 'Honeylove' Also as for these Hartland posts praising it to the heavens, how can people review it based on ZERO experience? It's like people raving about a movie they havent seen, just because the movie producer & director say that its going to be a good movie... of course they're going to say that! <em>edited by sourskittleashnut on 06/05/2015</em>

Thats like asking "What is the BEST lipstick?" There is no such thing, and you'll get dozens of answers based on people's experience and budget. There are some that are better than others, and have already been mentioned.

I looked into it for DD about 2 years ago, I was taking her to the govt clinics, they said they can give it separately but it's okay to give all at once. We opted for all-at-once but if you push them they might give separately, they didnt seem very opposed to it.

Hi Trish, glad you got all the info needed! It's best your husband does the sponsoring you will save yourself a lot of headache - I had to make so many trips to typing centres and immigration it was very frustrating! Busybee I also read you need to be teacher/lawyer/etc but I'm a Graphic Designer and I was still able to sponsor, as you also said they look at it case per case. My issue was that DH is not working, and my salary was above 10,000+

hi trish82 yes that could be why, but they will ask where your husband is, and if you say hes in the UAE and has a job with residency visa, they might say that he needs to be the sponsor. Also, they checked absolutely nothing about my daughters health insurance, although by that point she had a health insurance card from my company, and they didnt say anything about getting a medical done for her either.

I just finished my daughters process 2 months ago so the information I gave is quite recent. The rules here keep changing, for instance I thought my company would pay all the costs but the rule had changed and I had to pay them. The woman at the immigration counter didn't even ask what profession I was, she saw that my husband still had a valid visa at the time, gave it back to me, and said if my husbands visa was cancelled, I could sponsor my daughter. I showed her the NOC, typing center forms, salary certificate but she didn't even look at them, just kept saying "First cancel husbands visa, then come back". Does your child have a valid residency visa right now? Maybe because my daughter already had a residency visa they didnt need a medical done? She was born here, so maybe thats why :\ I would advise you take all the papers you have, go to Jafiliya immigration (next to Trade Centre roundabout), go to the ladies section, and find out for yourself. The information online is not always reliable.

Hi ladies, I thought I'd update this thread since we are done with the tedious process, so my experience might help someone. First of all, I had to pay everything out of my own pocket to sponsor my husband and daughter. The company only paid for my visa, not my spouse or childs - apparently this is a new rule. For background, my daughter and husband were on my husbands company visa, and I am on my new company's visa.I went to the Jafiliya immigration centre, next to Trade Centre roundabout. [b'>Sponsoring Child[/b'> 1. DH had to get his visa cancelled from his company, with the red "cancelled" stamp across 2. Went to typing center to get NOC (from father saying mother can be sponsor of child) translated and all necessary forms 3. At immigration ladies section, I took all 3 of our passports to show them his visa is cancelled so I need to sponsor DD 4. Visa TRANSFER was the best process, cheap and quick, got visa sticker immediately. If her visa had been cancelled, she might have had to leave the country and come back and we would have had to pay more overall for a NEW visa. 5. Paid about 2500dhs to sponsor her, lots of trips to various counters and typing centres involved. No blood test needed for her (DD is almost 3 years old). Documents needed: - Mothers, Fathers and childs passport pages copies and visa pages copies - NOC from father saying he doesn't mind the mother being the sponsor (typing center will help you) - Birth certificate attested (copy is fine) - Salary certificate in Arabic, stamped by company - Marriage certificate attested (copy is fine) - Mothers university degree attested (copy is fine) - DEWA bill copy - Tenancy contract + ejari contract copies - Typing center forms [b'>Sponsoring Husband[/b'> MUCH longer process with a lot of waiting! 1. Went to typing centre and got form typed up that wife will sponsor husband 2. Went to a main counter at immigration with my husband, more forms 3. Went to Humanity Cases area at Immigration, showed all documents to prove husband is not working, we are married, my salary is enough (paid about 300dhs to open up case) *waiting* 4. Case took about 2 weeks to get approved, I got an SMS to go to immigration 5. Back at Human Cases counter, got approval sticker on our file, had to pay AED 5000 deposit (we will get this back once husband changes visas to a new company as long as we keep the receipt) 6. Went to immigration ladies area, got a pink Residency paper and now husband has about a month timeframe to go for blood test and typing center for emirates ID. *waiting* 6. With blood test results and Emirates ID paper and new typing center paper, went back to immigration lady, FINALLY got the pink visa residency sticker! 7. All in all we paid about 7500dhs, 5000 of which was the deposit which we can get back. Documents needed: - Wife + husband passport copy with visa pages - Salary certificate in Arabic, stamped by company - Marriage certificate attested (copy is fine) - Wifes university degree attested (copy is fine) - DEWA bill - Tenancy contract + ejari contract - Wifes bank statement for 3 months stamped by bank on each page to show her salary coming to her account - Typing center forms [b'>TIPS[/b'> - Have lots of copies of everything! - The typing center is at the immigration center and the staff is quite helpful on explaining the next steps. - Be ready for a lot of running back and forth between immigration counters and typing centre. - Have lots of cash on you, you will be paying 100dhs there, 300dhs there. Keep all receipts. - Try to go as early as possible (8am). DO NOT go at lunch time if you can avoid it (12 noon - 2pm) it is the most crowded and you will be waiting in long queues. - The process will be slightly different if husband is out of country, mine was in the country so it was quicker

The only way a mother can sponsor her child here is if the father is unemployed (or if she's divorced/widowed, etc). I just sponsored my daughter, and the only reason they would let me do it is because my husband currently doesn't have a job. They had to see that his residency visa from his company is cancelled (with the red "cancelled" stamp across it), proving that he's unemployed, only then I could start the paperwork to sponsor her. Even then, I had to make sure I did a visa transfer for her which came to a lot cheaper (about 2000dhs). If her visa had been cancelled, it would have been a much longer process. I then also sponsored DH. I advise if your husband is working here, then put your child under his sponsorship, they will very likely not let you be the sponsor since the childs father has a valid residency visa. <em>edited by sourskittleashnut on 04/05/2015</em>

Give it some more time, maybe he's going through a phase. We had a lovely maid for a while and my then 2 year old DD loved her to bits. Suddenly she went through a 2 week phase of not wanting to go near her and would scream "no like no like" whenever the maid came near. It passed and she went back to hugging her every time she saw her. Since your maid is new, I would watch her closely though, but it could also be just a phase.

Hi! How will you be curling your hair? Blowdryer or iron or curlers? What works best for me is: - Use minimal conditioner (weighs the hair down) - Wash hair 1 day before the event so you are curling 2nd day hair - Partition hair and start from the back bottom - Use Straightening iron to make curl (lots of youtube videos on it) - Put a bit of serum on that curl - Take the curl you made and roll it up, and pin it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlrygYC6oIA) - Hairspray that curl - Do the rest of your hair, all rolled up, and spray one more time - Leave like this for at least an hour, can do your makeup now - Just before leaving the house, open your curls (can hairspray before opening curls)

Some great points above that I think EW admin should consider. I'd like to add that the layout and functionality of the forum is something we would see in the 90's! I mean things like adding a profile picture just became possible ( I still cant figure out how to add it!), and a lot of basic features are missing. Also, there is a reason why popular forums and Facebook pages don't allow a thumbs down - it's very off putting. Basic features that should be added if the EW forum really wants to be on par with other forums: - ability to tag someone (e.g. I agree with @Asti) - ability to direct message - ability to preview threads on the home page (e.g. show a snippet of latest post) - search results should highlight the searched word so you're not looking through dozens of posts - ability to insert pictures into a post These are just a few basic features that all high-quality forums have. <em>edited by sourskittleashnut on 07/04/2015</em>

There's also a HUGE market in Deira called Souq Al Wasl (parking is horrible so take a cab!). They have a wide range of scarves etc too If you want something easier to access, the Union Coop next to Safa used to have a abaya shop upstairs which might still be open. Design-wise I recommend: - Get a front closed abaya so you're not worried about it flying open when you're walking, and you can wear comfy track pants underneath with a light t-shirt - Buy 2 abays at least because they will start stinking and doing laundry is not easy when travelling - Get a scarf thats one piece (like a tent) that you just slip on, instead of the long rectangle that you wrap around. Though not very fashionable, these tent type scarves are great for no-hassle so you dont have to worry about it slipping open in prayer, and they grip well. The scarves look like this: http://zaharah.com/images/koleksiplenajhs.jpg - Buy a scarf in a colour (blue, green, nothing too neon) so your busband can find you easily! Ladies pray in a seperate section there, and usually after prayers all the women get up together so it will be easy for him to spot you in your coloured scarf :) Enjoy your umrah, hope it's a beneficial experience for you inshaAllah! <em>edited by sourskittleashnut on 02/04/2015</em>

Korean products are AMAZING I dont use anything else now! For skincare, I like the Innisfree brandd since they use a lot of natural products, they have a Green Tea line that I use (facewash, toner, moisturiser etc) but alot of different ones like canola honey, olive oil, jeju (not sure what that is but looks good!). I get chicken from butchers in Satwa or Karama and it costs about 20dhs per chicken. They have live chickens that they butcher as needed. They always taste wayyy better than frozen chickens, and are a normal size. I dont know if they count as 'free-range' since they are kept in tiny cages. I can't believe the size of the frozen chicken breasts in some brands, it makes you wonder how many hormones go into it. I stopped buying frozen chicken some time back, it doesnt even taste like chicken sometimes. I will look into Al Rawdah as an alternative, which supermarkets keep the brand? I dont think I've seen it at my Carrefour. <em>edited by sourskittleashnut on 19/03/2015</em>

I was shocked at the difference in prices between Spinneys and Carrefour the other day. I usually get the Babybel red cheese circles pack of 5 small cheeses from Carrefour for AED 8. Spinneys had the EXACT SAME THING for AED 19!!! (I checked it wasn't some special imported type, was exactly the same as Carrefours). Sometimes Spinneys markup is just ridiculous.

Hi, Depends on your budget. Silicon Oasis has cheaper rents than Arabian Ranches and a school within the district called Wellington Silicon Oasis which would cater to the ages of your kids and has a good rating with KHDA. It is also a fairly new school and not as crowded/busy as the other schools which are close to the main city, so you would have a good chance of getting admission for all your kids there. If you have the budget for it, Nord Anglia is more expensive but it is a very good school, in which case living in Arabian Ranches would be a better fit to live. <em>edited by sourskittleashnut on 17/03/2015</em>

I would recommend if you work at DIFC then it's an ideal nursery for you. It's a good nursery from what I've heard, though a bit small, but location wise I think you should go for it, I wish DD's nursery was in my office complex! You'll love having him so close by to you.

Hi there, DD started nursery when she was 11 months old and unfortunately she got sick very often, pretty much every 3-4 weeks. It ranged from a case of Hand Foot Mouth disease to several ear infections and viral infections. Could just be she has a weak immune system. If you have a full-time nanny at home that would be ideal so you can leave your child at home with her they days they are sick. I didn't have a full-time nanny then so my husband and I would take turns off from work to be home with her. It wasn't easy but after 6 months of her being at nursery the frequency of infections was less. Good luck!

I had a similar situation recently I went to the doc the 2nd day I was sick. She said she cannot go backwards, but in the comments she wrote the date from when I got sick. Maybe you could try that and it would be enough for your HR?
