If you have a valid residency visa, you can get a health card for about AED 200 and use the government clinics and hospitals.

Our lamps from there never seem to work very long! We bought our whole bed set from there (king bed + dresser + 2 side tables) and the wooden beams that support the mattress broke. They came to fix it but the beams broke again. Since we had the receipt and it was within the exchange period, they exchanged the whole set for us for a totally new design. I was very happy with their customer service!

I ordered some Le Toy Van toys from there including a big wooden dollhouse, had no problems, items were in good quality. As previously mentioned, they usually rely on external sellers so they cant control bad customer service on the sellers part.

For those who are lost, what happened was a recent new joiner Mona1 kept posting new threads asking very survey/research questions like: "What do you think is the biggest misconception about life in Dubai?" "What is the best xxxx?" Some smart people caught on that she was just reposting the same questions that she or someone else had posted in other forums on other websites. Then a thread was started by other EW regulars asking her to explain herself, which has now been deleted. Personally, if someone is violating the rules of EW, the regulars are bound to get outraged. We come here to genuinely help each other, if someone will use that for their own business purposes, we are entitled to be annoyed.

I'm looking for Tonymoly but had no luck :| I didnt have a good experience with eBay sellers, including some of the ones Flame92 mentioned. Theres a lot of fake products from China being sold on eBay, even if the seller says they are from Korea! Flames92 didnt you like the Nature Republic aloe gel? Ive heard so much about it, was thinking of getting it.. I still use the BB Cream Girl website in UAE for Korean BB creams etc, but shes still adding more brands so hopefully Tonymoly is coming soon. Right now theres Missha, Etude, Skin79, Innisfree and Milky Dress. Website: [url=www.thebbcreamgirl.com'>www.thebbcreamgirl.com[/url'> edited by sourskittleashnut on 23/02/2015

Hi ladies, Where in Dubai can I get boxes to mail packages in, like the corrugated cardboard boxes most online stores use for delivery. Google isnt much help since I'm sure the small shops in Quoz, for instance, dont have great website marketing! I have a box in Rashidiya - parcels usually come Rashidiya post office and I get a slip in my mailbox to say I have a package awaiting collection. Just take the slip into the main post office and collect (so if you're expecting a package make sure you go in working hours as you cannot collect 24 hours a day unlike the PO Boxes - I learned the hard way! :) ). Thats good to know Zoco thanks! One more Q - They said they'll send an SMS when I have a package, is it a reliable service or should I go keep checking?

Thank you all for your input, was such a help! As nix.dubai mentioned, I went to the [b'>Al Badaa post office next to Coop and they have lots of boxes available[/b'>! I was able to get mine in 10 minutes, just needed 1 passport copy and 2 passport pictures. I got MyBox which cost 300dhs, renewal will be 200dhs. Its close enough to me since I live on SZR :) Another question, do packages/parcels come to the post office where your box is, or do you need to go to a main post office like Karama to pick up those? Thanks! edited by sourskittleashnut on 16/02/2015

Amazon does ship alot of books to UAE directly without the need for ShopNShip, but their shipping costs are ridiculous, sometimes the same price as the book! BookDepository is free shipping so you can buy many books and not worry about shipping. Though their retail price is higher than Amazon, comes to cheaper when including shipping costs. I used BD the other day for a book and it arrived in 10 days! Sometimes takes 3 weeks so was a pleasant surprise :)

Kinokuniya (Book World from Dubai Mall) does delivery in UAE and you can shop online. I find their prices usually similar to Amazon, sometimes a bit more. http://www.kinokuniya.com/ae/

I went to Dr Bhatia as a teenager for my braces and he did an absolutely terrific job, and I know several people who visited him and were happy with his treatment. Hes still at Al Ghurair - Central Polyclinic and his prices are comparatively less compared to the fancy Jumeirah clinics. I highly recommend him but must warn you that he has a gruff manner about him that some people find takes getting used to :)

Hi Marroosh, Certain birth control pills increase appetite, like Diane 35, so if you are on those I would stop and see if it makes a difference. Ive been on Diane 35 for 10 years now (on and off, with a 1.5 year gap for conceiving and pregnancy with my DD), and it increases my appetite when I am on it. I was the kind of person who could survive all day on just a Kit Kat bar, but with the pill I feel constantly hungry, it's a notorious side effect :(

Hi, For online groceries I use www.trolley.ae they are very reliable. Geant also has online grocery delivery, never used them since they don't cover my area (Sheikh Zayed Road, near Trade Centre). Souq.com has several complaints of faulty products, though I've never really had any major issues with them. For reliable electronics use JadoPado.com. To be honest, online shopping is not used as often as other countries. I'd love to have something like amazon.com here, I wouldnt need to leave the house for the cluttered malls!

I bought AXA for myself and DD. 2 months into it, I wanted a Vitamin D test done since I was feeling tired and lethargic. AXA rejected payment for the test because I did not claim "tiredness" as a preexisting condition! They are very annoying, I would not recommend them.

I would HIGHLY recommend you dont expose your child to any TV right now, not even "educational" shows, babies do not need entertainment, everything is fascinating to them right now, even the vacuum cleaner! If you want to have "fun " with your baby, sing lots of nursery rhymes with actions (itsy bitsy spider) and read lotsssss of books with bright colours. The American Association of Paediatrics recommends no TV time below 2 years old, worth reading about.

How is "Free Shipping" misleading? You're not paying anything extra. Also they never promise that they will deliver within XX working days and post always takes a while. You will need to go to the main Post center or your books will get sent back. It takes 3 weeks for me sometimes so you might need to wait a bit.

I've vaccinated DD but I've read far too many stories from parents about their normal babies who reacted badly to vaccines and ended up with lifelong disabilities. I also personally know many people who had ben vaccinated but still got the disease (Measles, Chicken Pox) so vaccines are not always effective anyways. This is a topic many parents feel strongly about so you might get some really heated arguments here!

We managed for 1.5 years without a full time maid, and we just hired one last month after a longggg time looking and (alhamdulilah) it's made such a positive difference in our life! I'm much less stressed out, mornings are not the usual chaos - and holidays and days when DD was too unwell to go to nursery were always stressful too, since DH and I do not have very sympathetic employers! I only have 1 child so I think thats how we managed without a maid so long (we still had an agency come in and do the cleaning) and DD is 2.5 years old and been going to nursery ever since I went back to work 1.5 years ago. I think you should keep looking for a full-time, considering you have 3 children mashAllah - it is possible to do everything yourself but you might get overwhelmed and exhausted. Try the ExpatWoman classifieds, I found mine through here. Good luck! edited by sourskittleashnut on 06/01/2015

I personally know someone whose brother was molested by his nanny. They had her for years since they were small kids, and when the brother was 11 he finally told his parents about the molestation. She had been doing it for years but he had been too scared to tell his parents. This stuff does happen, you can thumbs down all you want. If that family had some cameras installed, they would have caught her a lot sooner and saved the boy years of torment. We wouldn't leave our precious diamond jewellery alone with the maids, but somehow think it's alright to leave our kids unsupervised with them for hours. edited by sourskittleashnut on 05/01/2015

I use Paypal alot for US sites and I'm here in the UAE. I just used my debit card details while making the account, and have had no problems with my purchases. Only issue is Paypal gives a crappy conversion rate from dollars, about 3.8 instead of 3.65. P.S. I just saw you were asking about a merchant account, I would guess they would give you a crappy rate somehow too! edited by sourskittleashnut on 04/01/2015

I just hired a fll-time maid I found her through EW Classifieds. Dubizzle is full of junk (I feel). I was clear about the salary and the work, the size of our house and the number of people. Also, [b'>make sure[/b'> you mention the salary, your phone number and e-mail in the body copy as well, because sometimes the phone number field you filled in doesnt show up in the actual ad so they dont know how to call/text you.

My best buy of the year: http://m.lookfantastic.com/cloud-nine-touch-iron/10870025.html I ordered it from here. And I googled the various discount voucher codes to get more discount. I think they deliver worldwide. Although I did ask for delivery in UK as I was due to visit on a business trip so managed to have it delivered to my friends :D Btw, Cloud nine C9 touch is amazing. I will never go back to GHD's. It heats up so much quicker and switches off as soon as you walk away. ;-) Everyone is complimenting me on the lovely shine in my hair. No serum needed ;-) OMG it says they do worldwide delivery! I didnt know about this site thanks soooo much Diamante!

Hi mums, Plz give ur feedback on FS1 placement for DS. We have to decide between Horizon school or Gems metropole. Elder DS is in Wellington International and they have offered a place in FS 2. So what to do now? Keep him in the nursery for an additional year or move him to Horizon School ( seat offered) or Gems Metropole ( close to home)? TIA I think she means Wellington has offered for FS2 next year, and the other schools have offered FS1 this year? Wellington Intl is a much better school than the other 2. edited by sourskittleashnut on 10/12/2014

I see property as a long term investment therefore long term projections for Dubai are good. Dubai is a safe haven in a wealthy region offering stability and a sound banking system. Impossible to project long term in Dubai. Your entire existence is linked to your job and visa status and that will not change ! Totally disagree ladymary! You can own property but you dont own the land. You can own property but you dont get a visa to live in the country. You can own property but the rules can change at the blink of an eye Look at those poor property owners who "owned" property at Tamweel Tower in JLT. The building burned and their property is ruined, the developer hasnt fixed it and they themselves cant fix it.

When something is by a well-known Pakistani designer e.g. at Studio 8 on Beach Road, you'll have to pay 1500+ for just a semi-formal outfit. Designer clothes in Pakistan have become very expensive past few years. :(

I kept getting ingrown toenails during and after pregnancy, and the nail technicians would remove it (after freaking out initially) but I wouldn't let the growth get too bad so they could remove it since it wasnt too severe. One time, it got so bad my toenail started turning blue, and it was horrbily painful, my usual nail technician said she couldn't remove it for me. I went to another nail place my friend recommended and the lady said she could remove it but she wasn't allowed to, I begged her because I was in such bad pain and it took about 30 minutes for her to remove, it was so bad! It hurt sooo much I had tears in my eyes throughout, and I had to put iodine on it after, but she did a brilliant job I havent had ingrown toenails since. I would recommend if it's so bad you should go to a doctor since nail technicians will not be allowed to work on it, and go soon before it gets worse.

Since ladies on this forum come from or have lived in different parts of the world, where is a good city/town to raise children? if you are not worried about work and money. This includes good schools, good houses, safe community, tolerant people, English speaking, mild winters (preferably), and any other good thing you could think of.. Please share your thoughts. Money no object, safe community, tolerant people, English speaking, mild winters, decent housing, [i'>some[/i'> good schools, good place to raise children....... I would say the perfect place would be Dubai  edited by Alismum on 27/11/2014 I highly disagree with the "money no object" bit, but I do still love this place! I got a bumblebee costume for my 2 year old from Party Zone, I recall they had fairy wings too. You could just buy her a pretty dress and hairband (something glittery from Monsoon kids?), and put on the Fairy Wings. You could also check toy stores like Hamleys/The Toy Store/Toys R us or even ELC for a full costume.

Business Bay is a mix of residential and commercial so you should be able to find many apartments. Executive Towers is popular and have access to the metro (not right next to them but a 5 minute walk). For shopping, there are shops downstairs most of the buildings, and you could metro it to Dubai Mall which is one station down. I suggest drive around Business Bay to get a feel for the area. edited by sourskittleashnut on 20/11/2014

Companies will only pay school fees until children are 18, so basically finishing A-levels. No company would pay beyond that.
