Hi, I also feel like my July born DD is too young to start FS1 at school next year, so we are keeping her in nursery for FS1 and will place her in school for FS2 (inshaAllah!) The age for starting FS1 at exactly 3 years is ridiculous, I think children are too young to start then, should be at least 3.5 years old

I'm seriously considering home schooling! I think the schools here are just ludicrous, the fees are getting just too much and any good new school only starts 50,000+ per year for FS1 and then increases in later classes. Ideally if you or your husband work for a company that is willing to pay part or whole of the school fees, that would be a huge help.

OMG what is wrong the school system here, who would pay that much to get their child into a school? It's just a school, geez!

All the suggestions are great I would add a kids lounge type area, like with bean bags and books. Sometimes kids want to take a break from the screaming and running too, or the moms can take the smaller kids there who are getting upset from all the noise. edited by sourskittleashnut on 16/11/2014

I think it depends where she would be taking her. If you live in a community area with a safe place to walk, such as Executive Towers or JBR, or in a closed compound, then it should be okay. I live on Sheikh Zayed Road and there's way too much traffic and fast cars on the inner roads for me to feel comfortable if my nanny took my daughter out for a walk, even on the footpath in front of the buildings.

Hi ladies, I'm considering hair botox for my unruly frizzy hair. I've done Keratin in the past which I loved but it made my hair poker straight. I'm looking for something to make my hair look shiny, frizz-free but I can still style with curls. Is Botox good for that, or which other treatment would you recommend? Thanks!

Hi I changed DD's nursery when she just turned 2 and it was quite stressful for her because she loved her old nursery, so I'd recommend dont change her nursery unless absolutely necessary. So find a nursery now you're happy with and keep her there. Travel time is not an issue, her old nursery was a 20-25 minute drive (due to traffic) and new one is a 10-15 minute drive, but we try to keep her occupied with a toy or keep talking to her so she doesnt get bored and cranky. Also when picking up, try to give a snack to eat in the car so she doesnt get irritable since kids are usually pretty hungry at pick up time. DD goes from 8:30am till 5pm fyi. Good luck!

Amazon is the best place to buy toys, especially the big sets. The toys in Dubai are absolutely overpriced! For instance, V Tech toys on Amazon come to about half the price.

My DD loved those!! They're so much fun for little toddlers, each one is so unique as well. You can order online from [url=http://www.bookdepository.com/search?searchTerm=thats+not+my&search=Find+book'>Bookdepository.com[/url'> it's free shipping to UAE via post, comes to about 30dhs per book. Book World in Dubai Mall also has them I think they are 39dhs each. I've kept mine for my little niece else I'd give them to you, Good luck :) edited by sourskittleashnut on 03/11/2014

Just turn off your wi-fi connection (from the main switch) during the day when you are at work, which will give you some control. You cant monitor phone calls and you cant take her phone away completely incase you need to call her when you are out, but internet is a big source of distraction. You need to control this since she is with your child all day, I definitely would. Of course, tell her that you will switch off the net so you are keeping communication open with her and not being a dictator. It's better to set these boundaries from the start. edited by sourskittleashnut on 02/11/2014

Marina is horrendous because of traffic, I avoid going there it's so bad! My friend lives there and one night we got stuck in traffic for 1.5 hours in Marina just to leave the area! Tram might improve it, cant say for certain right now I would choose JLT - more organised and roads have been sorted out now.

Cocos was the standard birthday cake in my family for years! However lately its become the Chocoa chocolate cake, which I just absolutely love! Its very light and tastes so different from the typical chocolate cake (like the Cocos one). Chocoa is in Barsha, they have ready made ones but you can also customise them if you preorder.

The worst was when my brother went to the Clinique counter for lip balm, and they were out of stock so the sales lady gave him a lip gloss because "it's the same as lip balm" ! Luckily I was able to stop him at the counter before he purchased the lip gloss, and I gave the sales lady an earful as well!

They certainly aren't trained in tactfulness - the number of times they've embaressed me by loudly asking "MADAM YOU WANT SOMETHING FOR YOUR ACNE" is just horrendous. [b'>poshubird87[/b'> I'd recommend you visit a good dermatalogist, I used to mess around with brands but the best thing instead of wasting money there is to go to a good dermatalogist. Dr Nasser at Dermacare is very good, or Dr Simin (she has her own clinic). Both are in Jumeirah. Also, have you considered your pimples could be hormonal? I used to get pimples like that until I started Diane35 which fixed my skin amazinglyyy well (though I still have acne scars). First go see a dermatlogist/gynae though before starting any hormonal pill. For a facewash the blue Bioderma one is really good btw. Good luck! edited by sourskittleashnut on 27/10/2014

Hi To avoid Whatsapp images and videos automatically downloading, go on Settings > Chat Settings and choose Wi-fi for all the media. That way it will only use a wireless network (when available) to automatically download incoming pics and videos, wont waste your cellular data/credit unless you choose to download it yourself.

Just get her a government health card (200dhs I think) and all her mandatory vaccinations will be free. You will have to pay for the vaccines for Rota Virus and Chicken Pox but a small amount like 100dhs, nothing ridiculous like what clinics charge. Main ones like HipB Pneumococcal MMR etc will be free. We live on Sheikh Zayed Road and take DD to Al Badaa Clinic near Canadian University. Very nice and clean clinic, nurses are well trained. edited by sourskittleashnut on 26/10/2014

Hi OP, I've been in the same situation as you - we have a lovely big 1 BR and it's me DH and 2 year old DD, and DH and I both work and DD is in nursery. I would love to have a full time live-in maid but you definitely need to have a 2BR stated on your contract, even if your 1BR is as big as a 2BR they dont care, it needs to be listed as a 2 BR on your contract. Anyways, I wonder where she would sleep, I would want to give her her own space, cupboard and personal toilet to use, even if you have a big house you can't expect her to sleep on a mattress in the middle of the house. As for the live out option, we looked at that but you would need to show you have rented her a studio at least and the rents for those even in less expensive areas like Karama and Satwa start from 40,000 which is another added expense to take on. A lot of people in those areas do share accomodation to save rent money, but that is illegal so you cannot show that when you go to the authorities! I also would not go down the illegal live out route, such as maids on their husbands visa, since that is illegal (though a lot of people do it). If you plan on leaving her with your child you need to have some control over her, plus if she runs away with your money or something, you cant even take it to the police. I contacted agenies like Howdra and Explorer (they sponsor the maid, you pay 3000-4000dhs montly for a live in), but they required a 2 BR too. After all my research, we thought it best to move to a 2BR + maids, you'll just have to wait till your tenancy contract expires. For now, I have maid agency come in few times a week (Molly Maid they take 35dhs per hour) to do cleaning and ironing, and I dont have time to cook so we order out most nights. You could try that till you can move houses, though its not ideal it works for us! Good luck

Hi ladies, I really want my 2 year old DD to know Arabic, but no one in my family speaks it, and her nursery is not very Arabic focused, and neither are any of the schools I'm planning on putting her in. It will be the basic Arabic I learned growing up here in school, which is not very useful, I'd like her to be quite fluent at it. I will be putting her in kids Arabic classes when she's a bit older, but I read that the younger you start to introduce multiple languages to children, the better. Any suggestions on what I can do to introduce Arabic? Some Arabic flashcards at home maybe? Not sure how that will work since I don't know Arabic myself A friend suggested letting her watch Arabic dubbed cartoons, but I don't let DD watch much TV so I;d rather not encourage a TV habit edited by sourskittleashnut on 21/10/2014

I love how your daughter said she "never gets to go out" - totally sounds like something I would have said as a teenager - and my mom still wouldnt have let me go! Try to let her go out more often with 1 or 2 girls from her class, like for a movie, so she still feels like she has a social life. Parties like this just send warning bells off for me. My mom would never have let me go, and as angry and annoyed as I used to get, now that I'm a mum I really appreciate it and plan on having the same limits for own daughter (I might even be more strict!) Being a parent is always an internal battle, but remember you are the mum and you know whats best. It's okay if she gets upset or angry, it's just part of being a teenager! edited by sourskittleashnut on 21/10/2014

Hi ladies, I just want to update, I've been using Argan oil and OMG it works so well! The first night I had 2 budding zits that subsided overnight, and overall my skin looks much more supple and smooth (I have lots of acne scars). I use it at night and love how my skin looks in the morning I've only used for a week but I highly recommend it. I ordered mine online from Amazon, but I'm sure it's available in Dubai.

I do agree with previous posters, but I also think someone who has a disability would find they are able to share and communicate with other teens who have gone through something similar to them. They should have friends without disabilities so they understand they are normal and just like everyone else. They should also have friends who have disabilities, since they might find it easier to share problems and things that they struggle with about their disability that other people might not understand. I hope he finds some good friends soon :) edited by sourskittleashnut on 21/10/2014

Hi, There are a few Wellington schools and each one has a dfiferent review, for instance Wellington International on Sheikh Zayed Road gets Outstanding rating whereas others get 'Good' from KHDA. If you clarify which branch you are referring to, then some mums can give their input :) Generally, Wellington is considered a very good school. edited by sourskittleashnut on 15/10/2014
