I stood yesterday to return 2 nightdresses that went through the till at double the price they were displayed at. Annoying and a total waste of time but it's the principal!

Hi Chocoholic, I ordered the Platinum pro EZ tiger that's on promotion, seen it at C4, looks good enough to me. Didn't want to spend a fortune as it's just to see me through the summer months, hope that helps!!

Does anyone know the best places to get them? looking at Dubizzle but don't have a clue regarding the brands either! any good sports shops anyone knows that does them doing sales???

Just check with them re your data usage as it happened to me. I'm on DU and was on the 100 aed package a month and I was getting large bills in for data usage and I couldn't work it out. After much investigation it turned out that even though I thought I was using my wifi in my house on my mobile when browsing as the wifi sign was on, my mobile was overriding the wifi and using the internet roaming instead according to DU. Couldn't believe it as hardly used the data when I was not in the house and not on wifi. I had to eventually turn of the internet roaming on my phone and that was the problem sorted with the bills but not ideal at all!!

Goodness, I've opened it, I'm paranoid now but good to know the info!!! So is it only Rashid hospital that has the anti venom? do government hospitals like the Iranian hospital have it?, don't want to be passing it on the way to Rashid as time would be of the essence!! (just trying to get an emergency plan into place with young kids!!) Before I moved to my villa apparently they were here in the huge communal garden but got spotted and sprayed and I know a friend who had them in her garden, nightmare!!! edited by Spicy pepper on 05/03/2013

We have only had a maid for 1 year but have decided not to renew her contract as we really wanted the house back to ourselves. We have 2 young children but I'm a stay at home mum. I have done it all my life apart from one year so I knew I could manage on my own again. We are totally loving having the house back to ourselves. It's bliss being able to walk around and not worry about anyone. Also not having the responsibility of being totally responsible for someone is a breath of fresh air as I always worried about if anything happened to her , health issues etc. I'm managing great, have got a part time cleaner coming in once a week and I live in a large 4 bedroom villa. I'm actually enjoying doing some of the house tasks again, yes the ironing is a bit boring but you can put your favourite tv programme on and your soon through it!!. I really don't think we will go back to having live in help again. Good luck with your decision!!

I guess it is whatever works for your family. That is the best answer, you really don't need to ask everyone about their personal habits.... Yes, that is true. You need to find the best solution for your family. Also, depending on how old they are, maybe they could take a shower without you so that it is less work for you in the mornings. Thanks!

Regarding the holiday part, with our own situation we offered to our maid after only 5 months of working for us to pay her flights to go back home and see her family and give her a month off. She refused but then asked for the flight money instead! She ended up having a months paid holiday here in Dubai when we went home for the summer. We have been very good to our maid and gave her lots of holiday throughout the year. edited by Spicy pepper on 15/02/2013

Just on a final note, my husband went to immigration where he asked for clarification to the authorities as we are completely new to this. In this case where our maid is transferring to another family in Dubai after a 1 year contract the authorities have confirmed that she is contractually not due any holiday gratuity pay nor any flight money. Flight money would only be due if you were sending her home. So that is the matter clarified from a legal and contract standpoint. Obviously after that, everyone has to make their own personal decisions if they wish to do anything which is what we have done.

Thank you ladies for all your comments. This is the first time we have ever had a maid so we have never been through the process at the end before so I just wanted to check with you what she is asking for is correct. I thought these things were given if she were to renew her contract with us.. If this is correct then of course we will giver her the money. We would never not give our maid money that she is entitled to.

Planning to go from France to the UK. We checked using the Emirates miles for the Easyjet flights but the amount of miles you would have to cash in wasn't worth it, better to just pay and keep the miles for something else!. It really is a difficult one, I might hold off a bit, going to be obsessed checking them every day now! it's such a gamble!! Have you tried Flybe? Thank you Marroosh, they do fly my route via a stop off but it's much cheaper!! would never have thoguht of them, thanks!!x

She can live with the new family as soon as they've set the paperwork in working. At least that's what we did, assuming that if someone would come and check, we would always be able to prove that we were indeed intending to sponsor her. Thank you. So as soon as we have cancelled she could move with the new family on the same day as long as they have started the process so to speak. Also, and how do we get our deposit back? thanks...

It happened to me too at Spinneys Umm Sequim! He approached me asking for directions to Jebil Ali hospital which I was just about to start telling him and then he said because I have this wound and lifted up his sleeve and showed me this horrible wound in his arm. Luckily I was with my friend who is a big guy and we just walked away at that point but the whole thing freaked me out and I was glad I wasn't on my own as it wasn't directly outside Spinney's but on the road alongside where no one else was walking. He didn't get the chance to ask me for money but I then seen him stopping another lady when I was much further away. Then seen him in the actual store....was not a nice experience at all....

Just for information I have now phoned Gargash and Axa and they are coming back with quotes of around 2800 aed. Is that the average amount most people pay? I believe this health card doesn't cover much anymore so private is the best way to go?

Hi ladies, I'm about to renew my maid's visa and I'm just thinking again about should I get her private health insurance. Do most people here get insurance for their maids or not bother? I am just a worrier that if something goes wrong with her health you could have very expensive bills. Does this health card cover anything? I can never seem to find a clear answer when I'm doing searches....thanks..

Hi ladies, I have had a horrible flu like bug this week which I've never had before in my life. Pains in the chest/back/neck/palpatations/horrible headaches but without the classic cold symptoms like you normally have with flu. Have been to the doctor and they have done tests and confirmed it's a viral infection. Has anyone else had this? a couple of people I know have had similar things but I'm just wondering if it's quite widespread? thanks....

I have been in the same position as you. Was seriously considering Babs al Sham but it is quite expensive and then you have to factor in transport back and forth if nobody wants to drive on xmas day!!! so we decided against it. Would love to hear if anyone went to the Amwaj Rotana for xmas brunch last year, we go there often for food and are never disappointed, it's in the ballroom instead of the restaurant but I don't know if there is much entertainment for kids. I have decided on Movenpick Ibn Battuta gate, seems to be lots of entertainment for kids so thats a big plus point for me. Have never been there to eat before but the venue looks really nice so here's hoping!!

Any advice ladies? a bit worried about what I should be doing as my maid seems to be unwell quite a lot (just minor things) but just wondering where I stand if it's something more serious and needs hospital treatment rather than just a cold, what do you ladies do? do you all have health insurance for your maids?

Thanks for your reply.I thought that if you paid around AED 300 for the health card it gave you reduced rates at government hospitals for appointments and treatments, this is all so confusing!! What does everyone do if your maid is sick? and what if she was really ill needing an op or something? does everyone have health insurance for their maids? I just want to know what to do for the best so that we are covered and she is covered too, her contract is coming to an end in Feb so don't know about taking on a full private insurance just now in case her contract is not renewed, thanks!!

Hi ladies, I'm villa hunting and I have seen one that I really quite like but the problem is the staircase. At the top of the first floor which is really high, the bannister is really low and I myself feel I could fall over it let alone my children. It's a sheer drop to the ground floor. Has anyone encountered anything similar in their villa? I have seen clear hard plastic guards in some places along the bannisters to stop children climbing over them. Does anyone have any ideas on a solution as it's really putting me off due to my young children and it's a shame as it's a nice house!! thanks...

Hi ladies, I'm searching for a new villa and ideally I would like a compound with a pool but I'm finding some nice stand alone villa's with no pool. I enjoy swimming and so do my children. I'm wondering if I were to take a stand alone villa are there any nice beach clubs that you would have access to a pool with that don't cost a fortune in the Jumeirah/Umm Sequim area? thanks...
