no, her name began with 'n'... but she's gone :( i'm so fed up... so on wednesday her previous sponsor said how he;d be willing to f=do a visa transfer etc and on thursday he said she needed to go back to sign the papers & collect her passport etc... i was suspicious, and the poor maid was completely stressed out! but she didn't really have any choice, so she returned to them on friday, & sent me a text today that she can't return. when i called her, she said that her emplyers said "if you won't work for us, you won't work for anyone" and are sending her back to the phillipines!! I don't know what to make of it to be honest... i want to believe that she is telling me the truth, but you never know, right? I just feel let down & disheartened by the whol finding a maid situation :( how hard can it be!? *sigh*

ok, so i spoke to her previous sponsor yesterday evening... he is happy to release her, and her visa with them officially expires next wednesday (4th april) so will then meet us and do a visa transfer... can someone please explain to me what this entails?? this is my first experience in hiring a fulltime helper, and i understood that we take the cancellation paper etc to DNRD etc etc, but i'm not sure how it works for a visa transfer?? sorry if i sound particularly DUH!!! TIA...

mmm, i'm not too sure either?? she's coming this afternoon, and i have asked her to make sure she brings relevant docuements with her, and have explained that i cannot start the visa process without them. i think i might wait for her to arrive this afternoon and see for myself what she brings... if it's release papers & passport, then hopefully it should be straightforward. if it's a NOC, then we'll see. i guess i will have to ask the previous sponsors directly for her release papers... why is it never straighfroward!!! :\:

Just hoping for some advice ladies... My new maid starts tomorrow (fingers crossed)! She is no longer working for her previous sponsor, although she says her visa with them will officially expire on April 4th. She said that her current sponsor will provide a No Objection Certificate tomorrow, so that is when she can start. Is this OK? Will she legally be able to start her trial with me?? What will I need from her before I can proceed with her sponsorship? Release paper from previous employer & passport?? Any advice appreciated!! TIA, :)

well.... she left this evening... it was obvious she was lying... the more questions i was asking the more tales she told!! she now reckons she's going to work in some jewellery shop... i think she may have lied completely about the whole marriage thing - she just needed some time & money to sort herself out and muggins here fell for it! the day i mentioned that my husband was off to get the visa application done was the day she got all funny... i know i'm better off without her but i'm still disappointed about the whole thing :( back to square one then - so if anyone knows of a good, available maid - please let me know!!!

my first 2 are 12 months apart, then i have a 7 year gap and my second 2 are 19 months apart... going from 1 to 2 was fine, loved the small age gap, going from 2 to 3 was EASY - prob due to the large age gap, going from 3 to 4 has been the hardest... all have different needs, and i am forever trying to chop myself up into quarters! lol they are a blessing though and i wouldn't change it for the world :)

ladies, I would like a bit of advice too... My maid joined us only last week - all is going well so far. She has asked me if she can go out overnight on a Thursday & then have her day off on Friday. I explained to her that I would be worried about her staying out overnight, although I have no objections to her leaving early on Friday morning. Her husband has this week arrived in Dubai too (from Phillipnes) and she will obviously want to be with him? Obviously I don't know her that well yet seeing as she's been for us for such a short length of time... What do you think? Am i being too anxious? Opinions appreciated! TIA :)

I took up a Groupon offer here in January - Keratin, haircut & blowdry + mani/pedi & waxing for something ridiculous like AED 199!!! I have to say, I have that never had Keratin treatment before, and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn;t have much of a haircut, just a trim & they sorted out my fringe, but it was fine. Yes, the keratin did stink etc, but they had everyone in the place wearing surgical facemasks! lol it certainly didn't sting my eyes. Overall I was pleased with the results. I also bought the shampoo/conditioner they recommended to make the most of the Keratin effect. It's stayed smooth & sleek - been just over 2 months :) so I am pleased with the results! Mani/pedi was good too. Hygenic & thorough :) I wouldn't mind going back again!

wow, thank you all for all the useful information :) also interesting to see how different people have different approaches... i think my approach will be a mix of all of yours! just another couple of questions - sorry!! 1) what did your maid do on her first day/second day? i.e. did she launch straight into 'work' or did you allow her some 'settling' time? 2) obviously this will vary greatly, but how soon did you leave her at home alone or alone with your children?? TIA :)

Thank you ladies :) I'm a little too worried that I may be a little too friendly! lol Niggly - do you think you could be so kind as to email me your list/rules/itinery? I was thinking of making a to do list myself, as you said - daily, weekly, monthly etc, and it would be very useful to see how you've done it... maryam underscore kk at hotmail dot com Also, i found myself getting a bit carried away with regards to her room - seriously, i had a colourscheme going on lol! How well equipped does it need to be? TIA!

I am so glad i've just read this... i was beginning to think that i was the only one with this problem! I have 4 darling chdlren, and i spend my life and i do mean every waking minute, cleaning up, picking up, packing up after them and of course DH! I'm sick of it too. I'm tired and I just need a break. I did have an agency cleaner coming, but she decided to go & get herself pregnant (oops) As far as I know, she has now left the country :( And we're in the process oif finding more permanent help, but it's been 4 months now with no help. and seriously I'm losing the plot! I just feel everyone just takes, takes, takes, and with no word of thanks. I feel so disrespected :( I reckon even maids are treated with more respect! They all just expect it. And of course they get it. It's like I've lost my identity, I'm just 'Mum'. Lol although it's not funny... i can't even go to the toilet in peace!! AAARRGGHH Rant over. Thank you.

Thank you for your comments. It's reassuring to hear that DD isn't the only one not talking at her age! I am trying to encourage her to use her words, we had great fun with "sock" this morning lol! :)

I just wanted to add - we've only been in Dubai since August, and previously in the UK, I would always be able to contact my Health Visitor if I had any concerns regarding the children... please advise if there is any such thing out here!

Hi all... Just after a bit of advice... I have 4 children, and the first 3 were speaking in full & complex sentences by their second birthday. My youngest (girl) is now 21 months, and is not saying more than 3-4 actual words... I am not concerned about her hearing - it is clear that she hears very well. She also understands perfectly, and can follow instructions etc. But when it comes to speaking, she just kind of goes "aah eha ah ah" sounds!! Lots of pointing etc too. She is a clever girl otherwise, and copies her siblings, takes her own clothes off, indicates when her nappy needs changing etc. She can get frustrated when we can't understand her - this doesn't happen often, and I am wondering if I should stop interpreting for her - then she may feel she has to speak to make herself understood?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Hi all... I've started the process of looking for a fulltime maid, and I was hoping for some advice, dos & donts etc... Can anyone tell me about the visa process - is it complicated? cost? etc Or can anyone recommend an agency? Perhaps you know of someone's maid who needs a new family?? Any help would be appreciated, thanks! :)

Hi there :) I was looking for exactly the same - flexible childcare where I don't have to commit to paying for the whole week/term etc. I came across "Kidstown". It's in Al Barsha - just next to Mall of the Emirates. It's quite small, but it's never very busy as it's new and not many people know about it yet. It has good enough facilities for a toddler/preschooler to be happy - they have toys, books, slides, tv area etc. Staff are friendly and seem to be able to speak good English. You can provide meals/snacks for the day if you want & they can heat it up if required. They also have a sleep area. Only negatives - no outside play area and if your little one is toilet trained - they need to use the toilets in the main building... obviously accompanied. Their number is 04 3929899 - speak to Mae. Good luck! x edited by maryam_kk on 26/10/2011
