Malaysia, although it'll be at the longer end of 7 hours, but the weather is still bearable, the place is beautiful, and the people are amazing!

- the ExpatWoman forum - I think it's a great way to get to know about other cultures, religions, and ways of thinking. It really broadens one's way of seeing things. - Cheese - I love cheese, all kinds, all shapes, all consistencies, all smells. I have to have at least ten to twelve different cheeses in stock at any one point. - The Ikea Singoalla cookies, the raspberry ones. I can eat a whole packet in one go. And I can never understand why I'm addicted to them, they don't even taste that good. - Swimming - Love swimming, it's one of the things that relaxes me and makes me feel so great when I get a good workout. - My daughter's morning hug and kiss - The first thing she does every morning is run up to me and give me a tight squeeze and a sloppy kiss. Can't live without it. : )

There was another case a while back of a pregnant lady (nine months) whose baby died in a car accident (she was driving and it was her fault) and she had to pay the blood money for the unborn baby.

UK store keepers are smart:) The US stores will most likely give you the difference. not true. i bought a maternity top from mothercare once at 50% off. the next day i went back to exchange it as one of the seams was coming apart, and i didn't notice this in the shop before. they had 75% off then, so when i asked the lady to exchange it she did and also refunded me the extra, without my asking : )

The doctors here told him to get a Voltaren shot, but again, the pain comes back. I've been reading up on it and I think physio is the only option. Thanks for the help.

Hi, Have any of you experienced this? What are your cures/remedies? My husband's had it for a week now and none of the doctors here seem to know what to do, they keep putting him on painkillers, but it's not helping.

i have one daughter, just over a year and a half. definitely want another one, but i think that'll be it for me although my husband says three. i have another question to add though: how do you know what the right age gap is? i don't want a big gap between kids, but i also want to enjoy my time with my daughter before i have another baby. do you just 'feel' it's the right time, or is it like the first time - you're never actually ready for it, you just go for it?!

A sad story.... a friend of mine works at a Dubai hospital and said that they had a child come in recently who was only 6 months old and paralysed from the neck down - a car accident !! So sad. If stories like that were perhaps highlighted it could spread awareness of the very real risks. Not risks that MIGHT happen, but that are happening here in Dubai all the time, every day. that's horrific :(

also .. don't buy straight up from the front-line shops! they'll quote you quadruple the price - see what you like in the front shops, ask the price, make a face, and then go towards the back, the shops there will quote less than half the price. i needed some planters for my balcony, the front shops quoted dhs120 - walked to the back and the man in the shop sold them to me for dhs30. true story! :)

well, if you go through history, even early christianity allowed cousin marriages, there are lots of examples in the old testament. i think it's mostly dependent on how you've been brought up. if from the very start you've been told cousin marriages are disgusting, you'll believe it. likewise, if you've been told it's normal, you'll think it's normal. swiss girl a report published a couple years back said that the risk of genetic disorders from first-cousin, first generation marriages are about the same as those in a baby from a woman giving birth after forty. i'll try to dig that up if i can. however, the more you keep going into the same limited gene pool, the more the recessive genes multiply, so the chances of a genetic disorder in a child of third generation first cousins is incredibly high. ETA: i think it said the risk was between 1.5% and 3% or something edited by ashesf on 17/05/2011

the reason you'll find intermarriages between cousins more on this side of the world is because it's ok to do so in islam. muslims often find the grossness of the cousin-marriage concept in western cultures funny ;) personally, i don't see a problem in first generation first-cousin-marriages, but not beyond that, because that's when the genetic problems start.

Got this on sms a couple days back: I just figured out why I'm fat. The shampoo I use in the shower that runs down my body says "For extra volume and body." :/ I'm now going to start using dishwashing liquid. It says "Dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove" :p

Ace DFC has a big selection of paints, the guys are really helpful, and if they don't have the color you want they'll either mix it up themself for you or have it ready the next day.

simpleasabc i think you should check again! i'm on my husband's sponsorship as well and not working, but our accounts are joint. also, you should go in and get the power of attorney if you don't already have it, the banks here won't let you touch/do anything, *anything* if you don't have that.

it's in the T&C's yes, but a lot of the places do take more than one voucher at a time even if there are fewer people. we usually tell the restaurant beforehand how we'd like to use more than one voucher (or all three at times) - we have guests and they love the place etc, works like a charm ;) ETA: we do eat a lot, yes ;) edited by ashesf on 09/05/2011

pretty much Nimonemo, maid's bathroom is also separate, and theres a powder room and a laundry room. i don't think theres an option of not having the maids room, but you could always turn that into a store room or something.

jlt is incredibly wide-ranging in prices, i think that's why most people won't give away what they're paying. it depends on the building, the finishing, the maintenance charges, the security, the type of people living in it, the a/c charges, and the views (szr views can go for up to 20k more), facilities, etc etc. for example, you'll find a decent sized three bed in the armada towers for 60k, but then it'll have other issues..

i'm in green lakes, two bedroom, 1800sq ft, paying 92k (inc a/c), but these three buildings, the madina tower and the tamweel towers are known to have the highest rates. love my apt though, excellent facilities. we have friends over at mag214, they're paying 85k (without a/c), two bed, 1500sq ft also in saba tower, fully furnished two bed but small, i think about 1300 sq ft?, 75k also in lake terrace, one bed, 850sq ft, 50k (without a/c)
