you can get him into a nursery that will take him upto fs2 (some nurseries here go from pre-nursery to fs2), and meanwhile get him on the waiting lists of your preferred schools. that way you wont waste a year : )

wojhati.rta.ae is the journey planner, you can put in the start and stop places and it'll give you a whole list of detailed options to choose from, plus the fare. and http://www.rta.ae/dubai_metro/english/home.html this is the metro site, it gives all the info that's on the brochures

not sure about new dubai, but if you want to go up to mirdif city center, theres cite des enfants there. it looks so much fun (i'm waiting for my daughter to turn two - thats the min age), and its educational too. plus, the pass is for the whole day, and i think the entertainer might have the vouchers too :)

realist mostly, and optimist sometimes. rescuer mostly, and persecutor sometimes. on living 'authentically' - i'm always true to myself, but sometimes that's not the way people see it. most times i feel like a total misfit. i have so many interests on so many levels that if i have a really goofy conversation with person a on the patterns of socks i'll totally enjoy that, but i'll just as much enjoy a really serious conversation with person b on plato and life in a shadow world. what happens though is that if person a and b are there in the same room, they'll think i'm being fake, so what is 'authentic' to me is not so to others.

How old is she? Is she married, had kids, over that phase? If so, then the hysterectomy is possible, but only for one fibroid? That's the first time I've heard that. Does she have a history of cancer (especially of the uterus, stomach, intestines, or cervix etc) in her family? If so, it would make sense to have the hysterectomy, that's the only reason I can think of. Otherwise, if it's too painful for her during periods, and she's young and wants (more)kids, she should have the surgery.

True, periods are very painful with fibroids. If the pain is too much for her, she should get it removed, as it leads to a painful pregnancy too. [b'>However[/b'>, getting the one fibroid removed doesn't mean the end of it. She could have the surgery, and another fibroid could grow right back.

depends on what you're looking for really. oftentimes one shop will have what the other doesn't, etc, so there's no one shop that has it all. also, you'll want to see your budget, do you want a long-lasting toy, excellent quality, or one that will just last a couple of months. apart from the ones amelia's suggested you can try: babyshop - they have a lot of the lamaze toys which my daughter loved at 9/10 months, also a whole bunch of inexpensive toys hamley's m&s sometimes have very limited but good toys any hypermarket will stock lots of toys (cheap) that can keep a baby pretty busy

I had slight spotting in my third month of pregnancy, and after getting it checked from the doc (Welcare) I was told I had a fibroid on my uterus wall (it would go on to block the head of the baby at birth), so I needed a C-section. Apart from that, the doc told me not to worry as they don't nowadays operate on fibroids unless they're big enough, and that it would shrink down to nothing after the pregnancy anyway. So after the pregnancy the fibroid did indeed shrink to almost nothing, and there was no need to get it removed. Your friend should go to a specialist doctor, one whom she's comfortable with, and one who can tell her more than 'you have a fibroid, get it removed'.

You'll have to go to the office of the airlines your guests are using. Just tell them you need the stamp, and they should do it within a couple of minutes. I suppose you could send them a fax too, but it'll be easier and will take less time if you go yourself.

I agree, the police here is helpful even off the road! A friend was at a cricket match and got a bad headache. He didn't have any aspirin so he went outside the gates thinking he should just go home. The police came up and asked what the matter was, he told them and they gave him the medicine and a bottle of water!

just to follow up, i gave her a half slice of slightly toasted bread today, with a bit of butter and honey. She enjoyed half of that, and then just as she got to the second half i think she took a big bite and all of it came out! :( but i'm happy to see that at least she liked the idea of being in control of how/when she bites and not being fed by the spoon, and she [b'>did[/b'> get half of it down the first time, so i'm thinking that's a great sign :) big step today, and will definitely keep it going! thank you!!

thanks again HAK! that is what i've been doing so far, as i got the same bit of advice from my mum. i mix up rice and whatever's cooked at home, so it's essentially a solid food, but the consistency is a little easy for her. i'm confused about the next step though, when do i know it's time to give her proper food and proper food only? and nope, not had any effect on her speech, in fact, she had her 18 month checkup the other day and the doc was quite shocked to hear her happily singing the abc (well, upto g anyway :p:) and twinkle twinkle (more along the lines of tintintintin howayewowayewhawa, but she has the tune correct :p:) so no, not a problem there, in fact, she's better than the kids her age (first child, proud mum-boasting moment :D)

in venice, the best advice i can give you is to get lost : ) walk up and down the streets, and just enjoy the whole experience. you can see san marco's basilica and the piazza, see the islands (murano, burano, torcello), the campanile, and ofcourse, rialto bridge. i think in a day you can do all of these except the islands (or maybe one island if you're really motivated) for rome, the list is endless really. you could go to the vatican and the vatican museums (a whole day affair), castel san angelo, the colosseum, the forum, the pantheon, the spanish steps, the cappuchin crypt, the pasta museum, the trevi fountain, the campo dei fiori .. phew! it's not called the eternal city for nothing! ;) just remember to have tons of the amazing gelato (i found the best in venice) and food ;)

spend more days in rome, but keep a day for venice if you can. it's hard to compare much rather choose between the two, but if you can, do both. for an overview/idea/feel of venice, a day is good enough, rome requires more time. : )

there are three in the family entertainer, so six people can go at half rate. if you plan on taking them out to eat and on entertaining them for a while, you should definitely buy the book.

i know it's old, but it makes me laugh every time :) A newlywed couple moves into their new house. One day the husband comes home from work and his wife says, "Honey, you know, in the upstairs bathroom one of the pipes is leaking, could you fix it?" The husband says, "What do I look like, Mr. Plumber?" A few days go by, and he comes home from work and his wife says, "Honey, the car won't start. I think it needs a new battery. Could you change it for me?" He says: "What do I look like, Mr. Goodwrench?" Another few days go by, and it's raining pretty hard. The wife finds a leak in the roof. She says, "Honey, there's a leak on the roof! Can you please fix it?" He says, "What do I look like, Bob Vila?" The next day the husband comes home, and the roof is fixed. So is the plumbing. So is the car. He asks his wife what happened. "Oh, I had a handyman come in and fix them," she says. "Great! How much is that going to cost me?" he snarls. Wife says: "Nothing. He said he'd do it for free if I either baked him a cake or slept with him." "Uh, well, what kind of cake did you make?" asks the husband. "What do I look like," she says, "Betty Crocker?" :D

they have a whole bunch of different rates for everyone, depending on the time of year you go, the area you're in, the hours you want, etc. you'll have to go there and talk to one of the people.

all about maximizing profits though, especially as companies realize (from recession studies) how much money they can actually save/make from such small things. case in point, food chains selling ketchup sachets for dhs 1 each (if you ask for more than one). there was a whole study on this right after the recession when companies were figuring out how to make it through.
