is it the new word in place of 'do/are you not'? you drink coffee, (do you not)no? you did say so yesterday, (did you not)no? you are rather annoying, (are you not)no? ;)

it is part of their job, agreed and understood. but they are human beings, and they have two hands. they cannot be at every aisle every second of the day waiting for highnesses to show up so they can be at their beck and call. the point is, if you're out of the office on a meeting, how would you feel if you're boss screamed at you (in front of everyone) for not being in to entertain someone who, let's face it, is a donkey's rear. the packer is done for either way. if he doesn't pack the woman's things he gets screamed at. if he doesn't stack trolleys and they are short he gets screamed at. have a heart for these people, there's a long, hot, humid summer to go.

bad day or not, nothing excuses the fact that you go scream at a person who's completely not at fault, i.e. the packer. he didn't know there was an idiot in line who would have a meltdown just because she had to lift/pack a couple of bags a whole foot to her trolley herself. he was just out doing one of the thousand jobs on his list for that day.

Man when I was 10 we were vacuuming the house, cleaning the bathrooms, dusting, doing the dishes and clearing the table. I really would love to know why people no longer feel their children should do household chores. Exactly, I thought the whole point of having children was to avoid doing chores yourself! ;) Me too.. My parents sure thought so. And we weren't given an allowance for doing normal chores. i know, me too! i don't understand why parents these days feel they have to go so easy on their kids, it should just be a part of daily routine!

personally, i wouldn't pay for daily chores. i'd want my daughter to think of it as a daily routine (plus the first steps in tidiness, responsibility etc) rather than something so extraordinary she should get a reward for it. also, i wouldn't want her growing up to think she'll get some return out of every little thing she does, because life doesn't work that way. better to start early than have her learn later on i think.

get them to donate their some of their stuff every once in a while too, so they learn about how blessed they are to have so much and appreciate it. even better if you take them to al noor or other places. my parents used to take me as a child, i've never forgotten the experience.

if it's reformatted, just go to the tools or format or rescue and recovery tab. find where your backups are stored. restore to the backup before the format, you should get everything back and it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes

I am the power that lifts the world’s head proudly skywards, surpassing limits and expectations. Rising gracefully from the dessert and honouring the city with a new glow, I am an extraordinary union of engineering and art, with every detail carefully considered and beautifully crafted. I am the life force of collective aspirations and the aesthetic union of many cultures. I stimulate dreams, stir emotions and awaken creativity. I am the magnet that attracts the wide-eyed tourist, eagerly catching their postcard moment, the centre for the world’s finest shopping, dining and entertainment and home for world’s elite. I am the heart of the city and its people; the marker that defines Emaar’s ambition and Dubai’s shining dream. More than just a moment in time, I define moments for future generations. I am Burj Khalifa.

or, you could go the opposite way and start first. tell him what a grand place he lives in, omg, it's the best place in the world and how could everyone not want to live there. geez, you're dying to get out of your place and shift right next to him. maybe in his house while you're house hunting. exaggerate beyond belief. i once had a similar problem with an in-law who just wouldn't shut up. a friend recommended i do this and i've never been bothered since ;)

Vickikate the labels do tell you if the covers are washable or not, and 90% of them usually are. i love my ikea sofas too .. they look exactly like the crate and barrel / pottery barn ones but were sooo much cheaper :) and practical :) we have the ektorp series with the off-white/beige-ish covers. i bought small cushion covers from pottery barn (on sale), loads of them, together the sofas look just as they've been bought from an expensive shop :) a tip from nate, he says when you want to give something an expensive look but don't want to pay so much, get the base thing cheap, and spend on the accessories .. it really does look as if you've just picked it up from a designer shop :) edited by ashesf on 02/04/2011

we stayed at ca'riccio in feb, teeny but comfortable. not for six though maybe :p you do have to climb up steps to get to it so pack light :) and venice itself is so teeny, you can walk just about anywhere comfortably, so location shouldn't be that big an issue .. our hotel was close to the piazza san marco (five min walk), but far (20 min walk) from the bus station for example. and the 'walk' is more of a stroll anyways :)

we stayed at camelia, close to the railway station (our requirement) .. very nice, decent prices .. not really close to anything though i suppose, but we took the two day bus pass, and all the buses had a stop a four/five minute walk away ..
