Hi ladies, looking for some reccommendations. My husband and I are looking to take our 1 and 1/2 year old away for a few days and I wondered peoples experiences with Fujairah vs RAK for this type of break? Essentially we won't be leaving the hotel so we re looking for good facilities, entertainment for the wee one, nice beach, great pool and good food. We don't mind where we go so please fire away wth suggestions if you've been somewhere other than RAK or Fujairah and had a great time that ticks all of these boxes. :D TIA

I read Gina and even printed off the schedules having planned to do it as soon as we brought our baby home but I found it just didn't work for us. I was breastfeeding and found it too rigid and 'one size fits all'. I used some of the concepts and principles but quickly established different routines which worked for our family. I haven't read it but heard the baby whisperer is excellent,

Hi ladies, I also have the Uppababy Vista and love it. I bought it in the UK and my family brought it as part of their luggage allowance when visiting. It did have to go into outsize baggage (was still in the box) but there was no charge or fees. We also bought the snug seat for it which was really worth it as it means you can use the stroller part right away if you want and our nosey LO has been loving being in the seat from 12 weeks thanks to the snug seat. The one thing I would say is that it is a little but wider than other strollers, I find I bumped the back wheels (the stroller's widest point) a lot at the beginning! Still wouldn't change it though!

Hi everyone, hope all the bumps and new mums and babes are great! I finished up work this week and I'm now due in 4wks +5. I'm feeling great apart from aches and pain in bed at night, I can't seem to lie on either side for more than an hour due to pain in my hips! I was wondering how many appointments you all are having at this stage? Someone told me it should be weekly or bi weekly by now. My last app was 13 April and I wasn't scanned so I don't know if baby's head is own and my next app isn't until next weekend 3weeks 3 days before my due date! Is this normal? Philly- glad Flynn is so chilled out, you are lucky! Sounds like you are in love with our little man and sailing through the early weeks just great! I really can't wait to meet our LO now <3 I popped don to the baby bazaar at Times Square today, did anyone else go? It was great, really buy and lots of bargains to be had, I picked up a couple of things. It's great or new mums, I'd recommend it. We've got friends staying next weekend for 4 days which I'm looking forward to. We won't be owing out much but will manage out or dinner and pool time, it will be a nice distraction for few days and when they go its pretty much home strait till the wee one arrives! Hope you're all coping well and feeling great, please post back n keep our May thread going. Not long now ladies!!! Xxx edited by Star007 on 27/04/2013

Oh Philly, you poor thing. Although sounds like you are in great hands. Plus, look at the bright side, you get to see your new addition sooner than expected :) You must be excited. I hope it all goes to plan, i'll be thinking of you, keep us posted. Where did you do your antenatal class Philly and Muurtje? I still need to find some! I didn't fancy City Hospital ones but I old be wrong, any feedback appreciated. I finish up work in a few weeks and I'm 32 weeks gone now. I'm looking forward to putting my feet up but need to get things done too. I really want to go to some good antenatal classes but would like ones that teach you labour positions and exercises. How are you finding the natal hypnotherapy Muurtje? I really like it, even if its just for the relaxed feeling I get when listening to the CDs now! I hope it helps :) keep in touch ladies x edited by Star007 on 03/04/2013

May ladies, it has been too long! I hope you're all feeling great! Philly, that's great you've finished work already. I've still got 6 weeks of work to go and it's pretty full on. I'm really tired :( Apart from the tiredness I'm doing ok though. I've been enjoying swimming after work, I find it really relaxing and at least it's a little exercise. I don't know about anyone else but I definitely feel my hormones are all over the place, more so now than at any other stage of pregnancy. I can be quite emotional at times over small things! Baby's movements are unreal! It has progressed from cute pops and kicks to full on alien style flips and prolonged movements! It's quite bizarre but awesome at the same time. 7 month check went well and we got an amazing 4d pic of the baby curled up looking all cute and cosy!! I'm looking forward to finishing work because I'm so tired that when the weekend comes I just want to relax, I have no energy to do the various things we need to prepare and buy :( I bought some natal hypnotherapy CDs and I'm enjoying those in preparation for the birth. I feel it will give me a focus during labour other than the pain and I hope it will help! Please let me know how you've all been keeping and what you'd news is :))) X

Hi ladies! It has been a while since I posted on here, hope you've all been doing well. Philly that's nice you had your mum out! I bet she's looking forward to meeting the new arrival in May. Not so good about spending day in FMC due to blood scare but least you know all is rosy :) We had our two nieces over for a week and it was lovely! I was sad to see them go. We've got our mums and grandparents coming 2 weeks after my due date also which I'm looking forward to. Although a bit worried its going to be too much with trying to get used to being a new mum, feeding, bonding with baby etc but im sure we'll manage. I can't wait to see them all. Do any of you ladies have visitors panned for the birth / post birth? My GTT result was all fine and I've generally been doing great, baby seems very active and has a pattern of about 3 long bouts of movement per day and a few wriggles in between for good measure lol. Feel like bump is huge now and I have started swimming every day to keep myself active which feels good. I think I'm going to do a few antenatal classes as City Hosp - this Tuesday it's Physiotherapy and labour prep exercises, next Tue is Anaesthesia and following week is Breastfeeding so I'd be quite interested in all of those. Is anyone else going? You don't need to book you just go along at 6.30pm. Also I wondered if anyone is practicing Hypnobirthing techniques? My friend used it and swears by the various techniques for helping to control and manage contractions and labour pain, could be good!! My ob / gyn gave me a leaflet on stem cell collection, is anyone thinking about this? Or has anyone done it with other babies? Its amazing what can be done these days but I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Would be good to know your thoughts and experiences to aid the decision making process. Write back soon ladies :) xxx edited by Star007 on 23/02/2013

Hi ladies, Waiting to get 2nd blood taken for GTT and I'm so hungry! I feel like everyone in the waiting room can hear my belly lol! Water baby and Andreag I have ordered the Uppababy Vista, Checked several out and this was definitely the one for us. I heard the opposite regarding the hot climate in that it's great for hotter weather due to the huge sun shades, breathable bassinet hood, comes with fly nets etc. I bought the snug seat so might use that from birth rather than bassinet but I'll see what I think. We have family here this week and they managed to bring our carseat, base and the snugseat with them! My mum is coming in Jube and she'll bring the pram so all sorted :) Has anyone done a labour preparation class? My doc said I should do one soon. Also anyone taking any pregnancy vitamins or supplements? Keen to know what others are taking. I take Berocca but not sure if it's enough. Take care ladies x

Sleep is becoming an issue, I'm so tired as have even able to get back o sleep when peeing through night. :/ Does anyone know if breast pumps are covered by some insurers? Mine told me I have a medical equipment allowance of 3000 aed but try woud not tell me if breast pumps were covered! Duh!!!

Hi Lexi, I went for the uppababy vista, it ticked all the boxes we had. I'm really looking forward to receiving it! I think I got a good deal with car seat, base and ordered the snug seat too. My mum is going to measure, weigh and send me pics of the boxes whn theybarrive so I can work out the best way to get it here! I'd love it if they could just bring it when they come via emirates. Did you have to pay for outsize baggage? It's not the same as excess baggage is it? Any tips most appreciated :) That's interesting that you opted out of GTT, I know it's not a standard test in the UK so wondered about it myself. My nieces are coming to visit from the UK that week o it's not ideal timing but I'll probably do it anyway. Philly, great on booking the table or lime tree :) Thats great that your work seem to be understanding and look to be quite accommodating. I'm still working FT as have felt fine to do so this far, however if for a second I felt it was all getting too much I'd definitely do the same. Your health both mentally and physically is more important right now! If anyone hears or knows anything about the Al Furjan villas please let me know as this property issue isntbojng way and we may need to move imminently :(

Hi Philly, any news on your GTT yet? I hope it all went well. Great advice in the names, I shall be trying these tips! I have ordered the pram now which is a huge weight off, it will be delivered in the UK soon and our folks will bring it when they visit! Our patents aed booked to come for 2 weeks a week after I'm due so I'm really delighted as this is our first and think I'll need the support! We are having a rent dilemma at the minute which is adding to my stress levels. We may need to move either before or the month that baby is due. I'm really disappointed but trying not to let it get me down. We were looking at new areas in case we do need to move, anyone know how Al Furjan is? We are considering it as an option. Looking forward to 2nd at lime tree. For some reason I thought it was 2pm? Is that right?

Hi Philly, a bit of both at Babies RUs. I did a bit of research and found that Angelcare is a good reliabl brand so opted for that one. There were others as well though. Great I am looking forward to 2nd now and we can chat in person! :) Ah Lexi that's good to know about the pram! I looked at iCandy and a bugaboo too but as you say they were a lot more expensive and I actually prefer the look of the uppababy vista, the new black frame ones are really sleek. Lexi how did you mnage to get it back? We will need to do the same and i wondered how man boxes it comes in and if they could be checked in as luggage on an emirates flight? Sorry to hear about your aches and pains muurtje, make sure you get plenty of rest. I m also struggling with names and we've actually stopped talking names. As soon as we find on we like, we talk about it so much we go off it again within a few weeks lol. Philly what is the GTT? Is that th glucose test? If so I've got it in a few weeks. Does it take long? Speak soon ladies x

Irishgal the Jane Rider stuff looks great, seen it when doing my research. I'm still undecided but definitely leaning towards the Uppababy Vista travel system. There are just so many to choose from and it's a big investment if you're hoping it will last for your next child, which I am! If you're ever in Dubs at th weekend give me a shout and we can meet for a coffee sometime! I'm struggling finding names I like too at the minute, nothing is standing out o hopefully when she arrives it will come to us! Philly, I feel your pain with the insomnia. If I'm not up peeing 6 times which keeps me awake I just can't get comfy. I guess our bodies are preparing us for lack of sleep when the babies arrive lol! 2nd Feb is good for me too, would be great to meet you all. Lime Tree in media city sounds good to me Chilli. :) I went shopping to check out DSF and it was pretty disappointing! We got a few odds n ends in Babies R Us, if anyone is looking for one, they had baby monitors in the sale so we got one of those. Then we went to midriff city center but weren't that impressed with the sale. I did manage to get a second pair of maternity jeans from (which I badly needed) in Destination Maternity but they were full price. They were still cheaper than the ones I bought from Blossom in Dubai Mall last week though. I am tall and really struggle to find trousers that are long enough generally never mind maternity wear but I'm happy I've got a couple of options and they are soooo comfy :) Hope you all have a great week and hope to see some of you on 2nd!

Hi ladies, I was confused why the last thread no longer worked and was itching to hear all your news, so glad we are back in action! Philly, I had a similar experience at the 20 week scan last week at FMC :( they told me it was ok for the DVD at first but then afterwards told me they hadn't recorded it as the baby wasn't in the correct position. Also, I had a different person do the scan this time, it was a man and I didn't think he was as good as Dr Soroya whom I had at 12 weeks and was excellent and very warm and communicative. There wasn't much dialogue and I left with a blurred pic of babies head this time so was a bit disappointed after being told I could have DVD initially. However, on the plus side, it was amazing to see bubs and we found out the ***, despite the Dr trying to dissuade us(!) My hubbie didnt want to know until the last minute and we were so shocked when they said girl! We were convinced it was a boy - no idea why though. We have decided not to tell anyone (apart from you gals so shhh ;) )so that it's still a surprise for family. So far so good, it's our little secret and it's actually very nice - we feel quite bonded as a trio in the knowledge that nobody else knows :) I have also been feeling a lot of movement this week, previously I fely nothing but the bubbles and flutters are definitely there - mostly when I'm at work and when I go to bed. It's lovely to feel her moving around in there! We also did a tour of our hospital this week and came away from it very reassured and confident in the midwives, facilities and care. I am actually really looking forward to the birth now whereas I wasn't before. After the hosp we went to the shops and bought a few things for the first time and our excitement levels were almost through the roof! It's all getting so real and exciting. I need to start thinking of prams but don't know where to start. Have any of you ladies decided on yours yet? If so which ones have caught your eye? Also, what names are you liking for boys and girls? I would love to attend Bumps and Babes coffee mornings xxx edited by Star007 on 15/01/2013

Hi ladies, Just catching up on everyone's posts and news! Happy 2013 ladies in what will be an exciting and challenging year for us with all the new babies I'm sure! I can't wait! My baby is due 1 June and my ob/gyn is Dr Helena Taylor at the Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Clinic. She is fantastic and will deliver me at City Hospital. This is my first pregnancy and have only been out here with my husband for a year and half so I'm nervous and excited! Would love to meet up with some other expectant mums, coffee sounds great :) We had our 20 week scan this week and it was amazing! Everything appears to be on track and we seen some acrobatics, thumb sucking and mouth opening and closing a lot! We've been having the scans at the FMC and they have been very good so far. We found out the gender of our baby at the latest scan and had fun taking guesses during the scan! We decided that we would keep this news to ourselves do it's still fun listening to family procrastinate and guess the gender so it will still be s surprise for them which is nice. I'm currently working F/T also. Would be great to catch up sometime. Have a great week ladies and can't wait to read your updates as we go. Xx

Hi everyone, just had 12 week scan at FMC today and was blown away. The baby was so clear and treated us to some womb acrobatics! Dr said she couldn't tell the *** as so much movement! Everything is fine and we are so happy and excited! Due date is the same as predicted May 28. Glad to read about other May mums experiences. This is my first baby and I've only been here a year so don't know many / any other mums! I love reading how you are all doing and the bubs! :D xxx

Hi Philly, that is such great news. I am pleased and excited for you! I have my 12 week booked for 13 November at FMC and I can't wait but I am nervous I feel like my sysptoms have dropped off a bit as I feel great! I think I'm getting too much of an easy ride! I'm 9 weeks and 4 days and the main signs are, I can hardly button my trousers for work, I have to get up at least 3 times nightly to go to the toilet, I am getting tired more easily and need to eat regularly or else I feel sick. That's it though! Today I put myself on the waiting list to see one of thespecialists at City Hospital as that's where I want to be delivered but all they could give me was March. Is it ok to only meet the person who will deliver you 2-3 months before your due?! I don't know how it works here. I'm seeing a gyn at my local clinic for now but need to start thinking longer term as popular docs and hospitals are very busy and booked up way in advance. Would be good to get your views and where you ladies are all going :)

Hi Ladies! Snap Maria123 I'm due on 28th May. I'm doing fine but must admit I'm feeling a but daunted with all the options and information. It's my first pregnancy and have only been in Dubai 1 year. Where are you all going for scans etc?
