Ladies, I have a sensitive question and am looking for your experience and information. We have a 'mosque' behind our house. It is not really a mosque building, it is speakers attached to a high-rise building outside of our community boundaries. The speakers face our villas despite a great big wall/fence separating the communities. The 'mosque' transmits the call to payer which is perfectly normal, however, it then goes on to transmit the entire prayer five times a day as well, at a volume which can be described as deafening :-( I have lived in the region for over 10 years so this inquiry does not stem from disrespect for my host nation. I have, however, never experienced this before and am wondering whether it is normal that the entire prayer is broadcasted five times a day, seven days a week at an unbearable volume. I would like to raise the issue, but don't know where to start as it's not exactly like complaining about construction noise past curfew time :-( Have you ladies experienced this where you live?

Believe me, children miss absolutely nothing by having their week shortened. I used to be a teacher and on Thursdays we would just do things like decorate the classroom, watch a movie (an educational one, of course!), and do some gardening. Yes, first three hours would still be language arts and math, but nothing would really happen in the afternoon, anyway. For many parents, in fact, it was sort of a free baby-sitting service. I honestly do not understand why are some parents so upset that their children get to spend a few more hours at home. My son calls it play day lool , they do spelling in Arabic & English on Thursdays but other than that they don't do much really, they have in-class fun activities That is absolutely shocking! How is thursday different from any other day? Do we pay less fees for thursday's 'education'? Do you do nothing in particular at work on a thursday? I'd be fuming if my DD had a playday each thursday at school. Fortunately, thursday is just like any other day of the week in our school and the cirriculum is followed to a T.

tamtamo,Can u tell me plzz what medicines dr gave u during ivf or something u were taking like ROYAL JELLY, SELENIUM, COQ10, vitamin D ETC and diet also. that helped in conceiving. WHICH DR IS GOOD FOR IVF IN ABU DHABI? u are pregnant with ivf treatment from bourn hall. plzz reply Dear Princess87, I've seen quite a few of your posts and have noticed that you are not getting many replies. I think it might be because you write in abbreviations and caps lock a lot. It is very difficult to read and caps lock means the same as shouting. English may not be your first language so the short version of writing may be easier for you but you should notce that we all write in full sentences and very rarely use caps lock. If you try this way, you'll surely get more responses.

Having traveled internationally for over 20 years, as a passport holder of a "Prominent First World Country"... 1.I have had to apply for visas to many countries for entry before I was allowed to enter... 2.Been denied entry to countries because of my nationality... 3.Have to register my husband before he can visit my country...(ETA Anyone?) 4.He has to register me before I can visit his country...(ESTA Anyone?) 5.Have applied to enter several countries that required several visits to embassy's and submissions of many documents. I am an extremely grateful person, and do not take what I have for granted, but how do people think they can enter any country they want without visas and passports? You have answered your own question! You and I have prominent first world country passports. THEY do not. THEY cannot apply for a visa and get it because they have those third world useless passports that no one even acknowledges. There is no queue for them to line up at to get their visa stamps, it's all theoretical. You wanted to visit those countries for tourism or leisure, I assume? They do not, it's a matter of life and death. How did it feel to be denied because of your nationality? But at least you had a 'first world' country to go back to. food on the table, no one wanting to kill you, etc. We are the lucky ones, but no better than them. We are lucky we were born in a different part of the world. I am the child of migrants. I could have very easily been born in my parent's native country if they didn't move a year or two before I was born and who knows what fate would have in store for me. Gardenlover, please don't take it personally but I'm just speaking as honestly as I can. The point is, if it was just a life or death situation, th erefugees would be safe in Spain, Portugal, Italy, greece, Cyprus, etc.... They deliberatly chose to target Germany and UK because these are countries in which in the eyes of the refugees Milk and Honey flows. If they just wanted to be safe from bombs and terror, any other safe not war torn country would be good but just being safe seems not to be good enough!

The article is headed Abu Dhabi and says it's so that the teachers can go home for longer as "most of the teachers are from Pakistan" The article says Abu Dhabi because the Ministry of Education is based in AD. One of the schools mentioned is in AD the other one mentioned is in Dubai. It doesn't really matter, it applies to all of the UAE and us schools just have to wait for the official circular from MOE. Then we can all resubmit our calendars and wait for approval.......

It's just to bring Abu Dhabi in line with Dubai.... This is not correct. It applies UAE wide and the circular to schools is coming next week. However, this is a minimum guideline for student-teacher contact days. Schools don't have to follow the reduction in days, they just have to keep the minimum. edited by starfishalicja on 25/02/2015

I was living in 2br townhouse in Falcon city for for quite a while. If you refer to the floor plan on community website http://falconcity.com/Downloads/20TOWNHOUSE-NEWWORLD-2-PLN-DL.jpg then yes it's real plan, no pool in the garden though. There are very limited amount of 2br units. If they are become available they are taken very quickly. Hi irish, thank you for the info. How did you like living in the space? I really like the floor plan on paper. Now I just need to find an actual house available. I don't need a 3 bdr house but i do need a decent room for our helper. That's why Springs and AR are out of question and JVT is just horrid :-(

Ripe has organic chicken breasts from Turkey. Spinneys stock organic pork from Kenya. Although not organic Tegel Chicken available in Spinneys and Waitrose are pretty good and are hormone free. Park and Shop sell very small whole organic chickens. I grew up on a chicken farm in rural Poland. Our chickens were normal size and super tasty. Normal size is considered small these days but actually the fact that the chickens in P&S are small is a good thing. Chickens don't naturally grow to the size of a turkey. It is only the 'lovely' food industry these day that pumps them full of hormones to make the grow huge faster with less effort or ethics :( edited by starfishalicja on 22/01/2015

I haven't looked at any prices so I don't begrudge paying AED10!! I was just wondering if all maids were so brand specific? We only agreed a salary. I give her Thursday evening to Saturday morning off and she is allowed a nap in the afternoon for 2-3 hours (I don't get that!). We both wake up at 5.30am and I don't expect her to cook. I do all the lunch boxes and spend most of my day driving kids to school ( average of 100km a day) so I am pretty knackered when I get home. She cleans upstairs one day then downstairs the next. So usually by about 12pm she has nothing to do. I buy her any food she wants and I cook most of her meals. So my question about toiletries was only asking if you pay for all your maid's toiletries as she wants specific toothpaste, face cream, shower gel, hair dye, shampoo, conditioner etc. It is just another chore on my extensive list... You cook your MAID'S meals?????? Isn't she supposed to make your life easier?

I have two Boxers (one born here, one from the states arrived at 4 months.) They both love the heat and sunbathe regularly in the garden. I do, however, apply the same rule as GE regarding the hot ground. We walk them properly in the morning and in the evening and they have access to the garden all day. Unless it is super humid, i don't even need to leave the AC running all day. If I do, they retreat to their fluffy baskets for warmth. They are weird like that :-) I think it depends on the dog, but generally, if they have not known any different, they are perfectly fine with the weather conditions here.

Hi ladies Have any of you PCOS sufferers had any luck since this topic started? I've been battling with PCOS for years and been on the pill to keep it under control, but came off 6 months ago as we're trying to conceive, but so far no luck... no periods, nothing (except some lovely PCOS symptoms of acne, weight gain and the horrible excess hair!). My doctor (I'm seeing Dr Shereen at the Well Woman Clinic who is lovely) diagnosed IR and i'm now on Metformin but so far all its done is give me horrible side effects. Have lost a load of weight, dont want to lose any more, just want my periods to come back and ovulate!! Tempted to try the Angus Castus (is that the same as Vitex?) have heard good things about it but so far can't find it anywhere. Are there any side effects does anyone know? Would love to hear any positive stories of anyone who has successfully conceived while struggling with PCOS and any tips for what helped :) I'm so jealous of you who loses weight with the help of Metformin :-( I have been on it for 1,5 years and have adjusted my nutrition drastically to almost eliminate carbs. I exercise 4-6 times a week with an intense circuit training and nothing is happening in the weight department. My doc says to keep at it and it will come but I'm losing hope ;-( I don't expect the magic pill, i work very hard so it is even more frustrating to see that Metformin is helping others to the point that they don't want to lose 'even more weight'. Anyway all the best and good luck with your cycle and TTC :-)

Starfishlicija, do you get the xmas holiday off and paid for? And like easter break? Appreciate your advise We get all holidays during the year. Only our summer is shorter than teachers and division secretaries. Accounting, registrar and receptionists have a slightly different schedule as they need to cover during the breaks as well. In return they can take time off during the academic year, which we can't.

Hi, there ladies. Can anyone tell me if you work as part of the admin or office team for a school here, do you get paid all the school holiday like you would in the UK? In my case yes, I'm in the director's office/hr. We stay a few days longer after students and teachers in the summer to properly close the year and we return from summer 2 weeks before students due to orientation for new hires and opening of the new year. Division secretaries don't return that early though. So essentially my summer is only 5 weeks long. I only speak for my school of course. edited by starfishalicja on 13/05/2014

I share your feelings on Fakhi i would never ever go there I went for the consultation and felt it was a money pit. I did go through with 2 rounds of treatment at DGFC and neither were successful, they are disorganised, expensive and I was personally very upset with the way that I was treated when it came to the implantation of fertilised eggs, they made the decision that they only wanted to place one egg when 3 had fertilised, they didnt tell me this until after the implantation was made ! Am happy to sahre more details but would prefer to do so in private :) Birchy, i would really appreciate more feedback as my DH is not too keen on IVF as it is in his eyes unnatural. He agreed to a consultation with a specialist. I need to make sure to chose a clinic which will not destroy the little bit of hope I have that DH will indeed agree to go through with the treatment. I completed my first round of IVF with Dr Wael at DGFC in January which unfortunately wasn't successful. The clinic is very much a 'locals' clinic where appointment times don't really mean anything and the phone is never answered however when you do meet the staff they are friendly. Prepare to have to wait for ultrasound scans as it generally works on a 'first come, first served' basis. Dr Wael explains everything in great detail and came in on his day off to do the embryo transfer. We plan to try again after the summer with Dr Wael. I did go to Dr Fakih originally and saw Dr Ghina but I felt that it was too much of a cattle market and there was absolutely no Dr/Patient relationship. The price for IVF at DGFC and Fakih is about the same of 30,000DHS (all in). Wishing you lots of luck whichever clinic you decide. Thank you all for the well wishes. As I am new to this and early in my research I am wondering if the 30K is for each and every try or do they freeze the fertilized eggs (embryos) and transplant several times until success or there is no more? I'm scared of the cost :-(

I have checked it this morning and it doesn't work beyond April 30 as "contract ending date" Has anyone heard anything about this? With rents going out of control and LL trying all tricks possible, the calculator is the last straw to cling onto. Easiest is if she goes on the company's visa as Babysitter and gets assigned to the director And that's okay? That is okay with MOL? Will investigate. Thanks for the info. I have not personally done it but have seen the pink visa stickers in people's passports that were 'Babysitter' on company visa's. Those were proper 3 year visa's and not the 1 year 'servant' visas sponsored by individuals.

Hi all, my husband decided to pay her. Oh well I guess it's his decision at the end of the day, it's his money after all. I am trying to justify it by saying she hadn't had a raise for a while, that these contract for maids are rubbish, that she never received a bonus. What else can I do?? The laws, here, proposed or enforced are putting a lot of pressure on employers. It is what it is. She pleaded and cried to get it and said god was the last judge. Well that's right... One day I'll find a job, part or full time to pay for all these stupid expenses, and one better day, I'll move back home where I don't have these stupid expenses!!! I mean I don't pay income tax, maybe this is a goodbye tax?? ............. and people wonder why the maids are so demanding these days! I wonder if I get a raise and a bonus when I go to my boss and cry and plead and bring god into the equation??? OH DEAR edited by starfishalicja on 06/03/2014

I just called the DRFA and they say they are entitled to 1 month and 1 flight back home. She is arguing that her friends, swearing on the skies above, received a gratuity and she is showing me a portion of a 7 days article that states UAE labour laws passed to pay gratuity to maids...I can't find the article, but found an old one from the National from 2012 stating similar headlines, but saying the laws are approved but "not enforced " yet. Anyway, it's a shame I have to spend last day with her researching laws about this when I am already giving her above and beyond what she is entitled to and I have always been so generous to her with one paid flight every year when she is not even entitled to it.... Honestly, she is pushing her boundaries. Pay her a bonus you deem appropriate for her service to your family over the last six years and close the chapter. Don' entertain any further discussions or investigations. If need be, pull out her contract (the green paper) and show her that it doesn't have gratuity on it. She signed it, her problem if she didn't read it.

Hello Oreo, Just visit the labour department this morning, it will clear or your questions instead being in a mess tomorrow, though am sure you are not supposed to pay all that amount, even those working in office are not paid like that. Which nationality? -:) edited by mara12345 on 03/03/2014 Mara, Maids (or domestic servants how the DNRD calls the profession) are not regulated by the Ministry of Labour. There is no point visiting the labour office.

Yes but my husband is insisting that she is allowed and she thinks he knows and is using his kindness to abuse....I am so upset at her for doing this at the last minute especially after all the gifts we made to her... Oreo, please don't get stressed out. If you are in doubt, which I am not, please call the DNRD and check with them. I can however assure you that maids are not entitled to end of service benefits. Also, a year salary for each year of service??? What planet is she on???? Employees under the labour law get 21 days for each year served up to 5 years and 30 days for each year there after. Domestic servants DO NOT HAVE a labour contract issued by the ministry of labour! Only in this contract is the gratuity (end of service benefit) stipulated. Please tell your DH he is incorrect, even if he may not like it.

Oreo, don't stress :-) Although many don't agree with this, maids are not governed by the UAE labour law. Domestic servants have a separate contract given by DNRD when you do their visa. They are NOT eligible for end of service benefits. Since she was with you for 6 years, I assume you were happy with her service. Give her a nice bonus in the amount YOU deem appropriate and send her on her way. Don't let her bully you into something she is not entitled to. Good luck :-)

presumably the majority of people are here because it makes sense for them to be here Speaking off the record, the bursar at our son's school is candid about the number of parents who have to pay their fees in instalments because it's simply not possible for them to come up with the full term's fees in advance. The school accepts this, although it doesn't advertise that it does, and the bursar says you'll find the same in many other schools, although probably not those belonging to a certain "shiny and expensive" educational group. . The 'shiny and expensive' educational group also accepts installments to pay for school fees and just as the others doesn't advertise it!

Hi there stylex1, I'm not sure but I don't think so - I've never been tested for insulin resistance. thats the first my docs tested for - she said pcos and insulin resistance are the best of friends .i dont have the typical problems like lack of periods or acne but dealing with insulin resistance is bad enough ! I have PCOS and Insulin resistance. I also don't have any other symptoms but to make up for it, I gain weight by just thinking about carbs :-( I have been put on Metformin to help the insulin resistance and to assist me lose some weight. Unfortunately It has NO effect on me :-( I cut out carbs to almost nonexsistent in my diet and I exercise 4 times a week and NO weight comes off. It just congregates around my mid section. So despite unsuccessfully trying to conceive for the past 6 years I always look 8 months pregnant :-( I feel for you. I have both and also I have severe water retention if I consume anything saltish, canned food.I hate the fact that if I struggle hard and manage to shed a few pounds it comes back within a day of off the track food. I can't eat most of the things normal people can eat. Only need to munch on raw veggies and fruits with low sugar. I get frustrated now. I am on metaformin too but its not actually helping except giving me mood swings. I have active life style still....:-( I changed 2 gynae and both are weird. I don't wanna take any hormones, for now I wanna try natural way by controlling diet and workout. Let's see if it works. And hey you are not alone. That is exactly it! I shed a couple of kilos through exercise and a no carb diet, then my DH takes me out for ONE dinner and i have 3 kilos back on. And that is with not eating the desert:-( It is really frustrating to see the skinny people tucking into dessert and still being a rake :-( (sorry skinny ladies, not having a go just frustrated)

I don't know how long as i have only been tested a few months ago. I have had the problem with the weight for ever but worse since having my DD. What supplement are you using?

So despite unsuccessfully trying to conceive for the past 6 years I always look 8 months pregnant :-(

What I fail to comprehend is how can the rental calculator be reflecting the rent that is demanded by LL and not the rent people actually pay! If it was fed with with data from Ejari it surly would show an average of what people actually have written in their tenancy contracts and not what LL would like to get. There is NO WAY IN **** people are paying 200-230K for a townhouse in my area, yet the renatal calculator suggests just that. As a previous poster mentioned the RC doesn't distinguish between types and sizes of property. I'm in a TH but only have the option of Villa in the RC. The Villas are detached, often have pools and are located on the park, of course they cost more! Dreading the renewal this summer :-(

to add to this.... I spoke to the rep in MMC this morning about the mobile app. Not all vouchers that are represented in the book are available in the mobile app, it does however cost the same. Ferrari Wold and Yas WW are just an example of missing vouchers. Also, in the book there are discount vouchers for Borders and Virgin MS that are not available in the mobile app. And not all partners are equipped to accept the mobile vouchers despite being listed in the app. It looks like we will still have to carry the 'brick' around with us :-( Which is really annoying unless you have a pram and can chuck it in the basket. I was looking forward to the app so i don't keep forgetting the countless coffee and ice cream vouchers while out in the malls with the mums and kids :-(

For some reason most Dubai pharmacies dont seem to deal with Daman And Zahra Hospital, a very well located hospital for most of South Dubai, does not deal with them till now. The thing about Al Zahra Hospital is actually reverse. Hardly any insurance company wants to deal with that hospital because they (the hospital) demand some ridiculously high cash deposit from the insurances against future claims.
