Thanks for all replies ladies. I will speak to my husband to see what he wants to do. Wiggy not sure if rules have changed recently or not...I spoke to Medcare earlier today and the nurse clearly knew what I was asking but she said vasectomy's definitely not done there (or officially anyway!) I had my baby at Medcare 2 years ago and was told that you make an appointment with the urologist and discuss it with them, they then say you have a medical reason to do a vasectomy and they do it, if you call they say they don't do it.

When I moved last year, I had every company that is recommended on EW come out to give me a quote. Easy Truck was one of the highest quotes and they don't unpack. We in the end used Acorn as they had the date available and they matched the lowest quote that we were given by Xtreme Movers. Acorn were very quick and professional, they packed everything up with great care and unpacked everything into the cupboards that I asked them to. Nothing was damaged.

Ladies, with all due respect, do any of you actually report these incidents to the police? Or just write them on here? No one on here can do anything about it - the police CAN. Yes I have called police, the bad driver number and Al Ameen but not really sure if they do anything as I see the same car I've reported still doing it. What number do you have to report bad drivers? The one I call never gets answered, just rings and rings. 8004353 but you get passed around a lot.

If that was you in the silver Prado letting your young son 'drive' sitting on your lap then grow a brain. It's not jolly good fun as your idiotic gurning expression suggested, it's dangerous and stupid. You are not in proper control of your car when he is 'driving' and that poses a danger to everyone else on the road and pavements. Not to mention to your son who will hit the dash, if not the windscreen should you have to stop quickly. Take him to Kidzania, he can 'drive' there. I see this around DSO all the time! It's so wrong!

Morning Starsouthern, She said the Arabic contract will be a standard contract for anyone who has a visa under TECOM. There is no reason at all that the school can't provide her with a copy of her contract with TECOM (Arabic) and the English contract between her and the school. If the HR department are refusing this then she suggests she speaks to her direct boss or even the headmaster. If this isn't possible for whatever reason then it is the Labour Department she needs to complain to. She also said if you are having these kinds of problems then she should consider leaving the school anyway as it all sounds a little odd and suggests something is wrong. HTH Thanks Molly, will let her know. SS

No she wasn't given a copy of the Arabic contract, yes she has asked for it and has been refused. Hense why I'm asking on the forum where she can go to seek advice. That's a bit naughty of them. I'll ask my friend who used to work in HR at a school (4 years ago though) Will try and get back tonight Thanks Molly, would really appreciate it as the school are really doing a number on her.

A friend who is a teacher in a BC school is wanting to know her rights and the regular labor law doesn't apply to her situation. Does anyone know where/who she can go to seek advice? TIA Does it not apply because she is a teacher? I though the LL applied to all employees of the UAE ( except those in FZ as they are different) There are different amendments for teachers regarding renewal of contract, classroom hours, working hours, notice periods. The school are refusing to give her a copy of her contract so she can't use that so wants to know where she can go.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! All I know is that you need two years of practical experience for clinics to hire you, I'm not sure if it a UAE law or what clinics here stipulate.

Starsouthern, is your friend going to check if the landlord sells? This was what the op wanted to know. TBH I think they're just going to move on, the second loss was expensive as they had to pay the case fee and with moving costs they don't really have the cash flow to follow through. They were also told that there was nothing stopping LL putting property in family member's name and saying it was sold. I'm waiting to see what happens to another friend who moved out as LL said they were moving in but has rented it out for 75k more!

My friend took his landlord to the rent committee as the landlord wanted a 50% increase. They won the case but were told the landlord can put the rent up by 5%. The day the landlord came to collect the cheques he handed them a 12 moths notice letter un-notarized to vacate as he was selling the property, they went back to the rent committee and lost so are now in the process of finding a new house to live in.

Just to reassure you, RT, your DD will not be the youngest. There are many summer-born children. My DD is in Year 1 and turned 6 in September yet there are a few children in her class who turned 5 in September! That is a difference of a year, which is huge at that age! Year 1 is for 5-6 year-olds. Why don't you let her do FS 1 next year and see what the teacher says at the end of the year? She could always repeat the year if her teacher feels that she is emotionally and academically immature. Personally, I don't understand the logic of having a child do FS1 at nursery because they are younger than the others. That doesn't erase the issue that they will start FS2 at the age of 4 and I would think it is more beneficial for the child to go to FS 2 having done FS 1 in the same school. Can you tell me what sort of things they would cover at FS1? My boy is 3 in November and going to a nursery 5 days a week. DBS have advised him that he would go in to FS1 in September 2014, a couple of months before his 4th birthday. I had always thought he would start school at 5 so have not got him registered anywhere yet. At 5, is he too old for FS1? FS1 is all learning through play an exploration. It is nursery but they go 5 days a week from 8am-1230pm in a big school campus. However all their breaks are different and they don't interact with the big kids. edited by starsouthern on 29/10/2013

I have three kids, they have survived 10, 5, and 2 years respectively and I still get unsolicited advice. I've just learned to smile and nod, then do my own thing. I especially love getting advice from people who've never had their own children. Best advice my mom gave me was: you're their mother, you know best.

I can live with a short walk! Amazing how lazy some people are here - cant bear to walk a few yards and would prefer to park badly and put kids in danger instead. Anyone come from as far as Umm SUqeim to DESS? I park in the hospital car park and it's not a long walk at all. Kids come from as far as The Lakes and Springs. If you go on SZR and take the Maktoum Bridge turn off and right on to Oud Metha Rd you miss all the bad traffic.

Homework for yr 5 at DESS is Sunday: Spelling due following Sunday. Tuesday they are given Numeracy and Literacy homework due on the Sunday it should take no more than 45mins. And at least 20mins reading a day. I moved my son to DESS in year 3, he didn't want to move was really happy at his old school. Hands down for us it was the best decision we made, he's thriving socially and academically. The school has really fired his thirst for knowledge and learning whereas at his old school although he was top set of everything he just did bare minimum and only did what he had to. Almost as if he was just going through the motions. edited by starsouthern on 08/10/2013

Hopefully, if and when DESS opens up their new campus, there will be lots of school places. Think that's a Dubai rumor Anon as they have just started building the FS1 area at their current site. Oh, thank you for letting me know. I knew they were planning to do FS 1 soon, and I just assumed that they would do it elsewhere because I didn't think there was room for expansion at their campus in Oud Metha. DESS seems like a really nice school. It is only the location that has turned me off... They've relocated the PE offices. They are building on the land at the back where the PE offices used to be. I felt the same way about the location but am really glad that we made the move. TBH traffic isn't any worse than the other schools we were at or the schools that my friends go to.

Our class had 2 leavers at the end of the year and they all went overseas, I only know of one family that left DESS to go to another not for profit school in Dubai due to travel distance from their home to DESS. DESS is a lovely nurturing school, with strong academics and sports. We're happy there, and after being at two GEMS schools really do feel that the quality of education is far superior and personal. Our kids are individuals who are being taught to be the best they can be instead of a bum on a seat or a number.

How about Layan? You could get a 2 bed villa or 2/3 bed spacious apartment. Lovely pool, Choithams, Gym, Spa & Laundry. 2 bed Layan villas are smaller than the Springs. The 3 bed apartments are lovely. I love a garden with kids so we sacrificed space and lived in a 2 bed springs for 2 years, it was tight but not uncomfortable. We loved living in the Ranches though a lot more than the Springs. My friends that live in JBR never complain about the traffic they have the timing sorted so they're never stuck in it. They all say once you're home you park your car and don't need it again. If you do have a chance to live close to work I would take that option. Good luck ? edited by starsouthern on 01/10/2013

I think a lot of things are changing and now it really is a case by case senario despite what the news papers write Actually the RC is very consistent, and nothing is really changing - to suggest otherwise is to scaremonger unnecessarily. There is a lot of precedent for the RC upholding 90 days' notice of eviction IF the new owner of the property can prove that s/he plans to live in it her/himself and doesn't own any alternative properties. The advice my friend was given was very different to what I was given in April this year. So yes I do think things are changing. I'm not trying to scaremonger I am saying that everything is on a case by case basis. So taking what we read in the news paper and here isn't necessarily what happens. The OP said that if her notice wasn't notorised then it has to be re given to her by the new owner. RERA told my friend that this isn't the case and an email will suffice.

I spoke to RERA today, it turns out the new owner doesn't have to give me another 12 months notice..if the notice however is not notarized then it is not legally binding, therefore the new owner has to give 12 months notice. My friend went into the Rent Committee today and she was told to go to RERA for advice the committee is now only for filing cases. At RERA she was told that an email or letter delivered by Aramex is enough notice, they said that if you acknowledge the notice in that form then it was binding. They also said that the notice can be given at any time. So my friend's contract ends in October 2013 but she was given notice in March 2012, RERA told her she has to move in March 2014. Another friend bought an apartment for his own use, the tenants opened a case when he gave them notice to vacate. The rent committee ruled in his favour and said that as he can prove that the apartment is for his own use then he only needs to give the tenants 90 days notice. I think a lot of things are changing and now it really is a case by case senario despite what the news papers write.

Anywhere off St 71 is ok. We called every ad in Dubizzle even if the agent said it was gone we asked what else they had and we went to look. Most houses didn't have a To Let sign out front that we were taken to. The ones that did have To Let signs all the agents that we felt with took us to them. Good luck it took us four days I looking at absolute dives before finding our house.

Yup Jebel Ali Church make it all very easy. The only thing that takes time, is if you have to post wedding banns in the embassy for 30 days and attend a pre-marriage session with other couples - it's very funny though. They made everything so so simple. Both my hubby and I didn't have to post banns as it wasn't a requirement Of both our embassys. Hubby is Irish. Rules could've changed since then but if you contact the Irish Embassy they have a list of everything you need to do. It really was easy the minister basically said what date do you want and we booked the first date available which was 2 weeks from when we first met the minister. edited by starsouthern on 24/09/2013

It was a few years ago we stayed there and it was really run down. The toilet backed up and flooded our chalet. It definitely look like the picture in your link so hopefully they've refurbished! The nice thing about it is the fact that it is a motel style room with a BBQ in the garden if you have a chalet but there is nothing in the rooms so we had to take everything with us. A bit like camping but with roof AC and beds ? we had a great time snorkeling around snoopy island. I hear divers love it as there's good diving. Just be warned it was very basic when we were there.

They said they have to apply online through DHA website, they get charged so we get charged. It took about 30mins for them to apply then print out and stamp the note.

You won't get a ban, it depends on who you work for on whether or not they will enforce the 45 day penalty. If you're leaving before the end of the academic year then it's more likely that they will charge you the penalty.

That's good to know. Do you do any business with anyone outside the UAE? I'm wondering if that could be a catch or if i need to be aware of any rules in that regard? I need to make a decision of whether to shut down the FZ company and move our visas to the professional license company when it's set up. I don't know if there's any sense keeping two. K Yes we do and there is no catch. Visas are only 2 years out of the freezone.
