Depends on what the function of your baby label is eg if it's clothes or furniture import then you would need a distribution license an LLC and you need to check if there is an agent here already in place for the brand you are bringing in. If you are making something then it would be another type of license which could fall into the professional category. You could also maybe open a branch office here if your company is established in your home country. Maybe speak to these guys http://www.linksgroup.com/ they maybe able to advise you on what you can do.

Thanks for your replies ladies. As it's consultancy we're looking at the Professional License. We don't deal in any products or commodities. Starsouthern, could you tell me what the local agent does? I mean obviously we pay them an annual fee but apart from that do we need to get signatures from them for things? And do we need to be careful about seeking a particular person or will anyone do ie do they need to have wasta? I've approached Key Business amoung other companies and am still waiting to hear back from them as it happens! If anyone else has any experience or advice to share i'd appreciate. K Your service agent can be anyone who is an Emirati and is 18 or over. You need their signature for your trade license. They do not need wasta. I prefer using a company to do this as they can always get the required signatures also as being an agent is their business you don't get any bad blood between you and the agent when profits are good or agent suddenly deciding they need or want more money etc. We've used key business since 2005 but to be honest only see them once a year for license renewal. If you can't get through to Key try these guys http://www.linksgroup.com/ they were very helpful but when I saw them in 2005 for what I needed they were a lot more expensive and contract terms for me weren't favorable, however business set up rules have changed a lot in the last 8 years so they might work out really well for you. edited by starsouthern on 11/09/2013

It all depends on your particular business activity and goals, but I would recommend keeping the FZ regardless of what you do with the DED. You will need to get a local sponsor for the DED license, but you can list the FZ as the 49% shareholder on the license. This set-up will benefit you for a variety of reasons (i.e., to keep most of your business, equipment, assets, visas, contracts, etc out of the DED company so the local shareholder has no arm's reach to them). But you will find that having access to a local shareholder will help you enormously if you are dealing with any kind of importing or other highly regulated business. The yearly cost of renewing the FZ license is also bound to be cheaper than ending up in a dispute with a local sponsor. Good luck! For a Professional License through DED you do not need a local sponsor. You only need an agent and they have no control or ownership over the business. We've always used Key Business Group for our company formation and haven't had a problem.

Anyone know what the fine is for those involved in the illegal employment of private tutors? You do know there's been a crack-down on this here in recent years? Teachers tutoring pupils from the schools which employ them are likely to be worst hit if discovered, I believe. But I could be wrong, and like the illegal employment of part-time maids, it may be something which we're warned about having major repercussions, but in the event, the authorities mostly turn a blind eye to it. ETA: If I were a private tutor in Dubai, I'd be wary of touting for business on these pages. edited by Vdella on 05/09/2013 Well, there is indeed a problem with tutors -- but even institutes! I'd be more worried of getting caught there than working on my own. Let's be real. Those places which offered me AED 60 an hour, making a minimum 200% profit on what they would pay me -- had I accepted -- all stressed the same thing: we cannot provide you with a visa. Then they all added: does your current employer provide you with a visa? What it tells me: those places offer me a job illegally. If I am going to be working illegally (which I will in both cases) do you think I prefer making AED 60 or AED 200 per hour? In which circumstances will I care more about my students? When I feel exploited or not? edited by Loukoum on 05/09/2013 Those institutions can give you a labour card if your current sponsor will give you a NOC to work there. If you have a labour card then it is legal to work there without a visa. I know of 3 BC schools who do allow their teachers to tutor and give NOCs. One school I know of even allows their teachers to tutor on their premises. edited by starsouthern on 05/09/2013

Last year when I had problems with my LL both RERA and the Rent Committee told me that email notice was fine and accepted by them. They also said that LL can give 90 days notice to vacate the property if you don't agree to move out then you can take LL to the rent committee and then it's decided case by case bases.

I agree with katscamel 100% the City of Guilds Cerrificate does not hold much weight in the TEFL world. CELTA is the most internationally recognized certificates. CELTA is from Cambridge. Just be warned that to get a decent job with a CELTA is difficult and you'll still need at least two years teaching experience post certificate. It is a very competitive market and jobs are hard to come by also pay is not great.

Even if they give you 90 days notice re changes you don't have to agree to them. If both parties can't agree to number of cheques then it goes by RERA regulation of 4 cheques.

Is the credit earned by Open University recognized by real universities? Yes,they are fully accredited as they are offered by universities. There is an open university in UK and in Australia. Because Open University is not a university. It is a company that connects you with all of the universities it has coordinated with to offer the online/distance option. So your certificate and transcript will be from, say, Griffith Universitt Australia, not from Open University. I have both a degree from on campus and from online. Online was 20 times better. The students were professionals, the work load was much greater but taught better with lectures and tutorials recorded so you could listen later. I was taught by mainly Inian an Arabic teachers for my experience on campus here, compared to by Australians with my online degree, so maybe I just enjoyed their teaching style better. UOWD was offering a course in ToEFL or IELTS this summer which could open doors for adult teaching, if you were interested in that. Practical training could be done at one of the Ahstralian schools in Sharjah, when you get to that level. IELTS is the International English Language Testing System which is an English proficiency test not a teaching qualification. ToEFL is also an English proficiency test. UOWD offer the CELTA and DELTA as their teaching qualifications.

I believe that the old rule giving a second year at the same rent no longer stands. I think that landlords can now increase rents for the second year if allowed by the Rent Index calculator. But I also think they need to give you 12 months notice from the end of your current tenancy period. It's not an old rule, this law still exists 100% but sadly a lot of tenants do not enforce it. Believe or not the Law is on the side of the tenants in Dubai. The rent committee informed me that the landlord can increase the rent after the first year if the rental calculator states that there is an increase provided that they give the 90 days notice. edited by starsouthern on 30/06/2013

Hi Irooni! She is going to be 3 end of august but no places for nursery and reception so I did register her for year 1 in 2015... What I am looking for is a school with native English speaking teachers with high standard of teaching qualifications, positive learning environment, after school activities such as ballet and gymnastics and music led by exceptional teachers and of course happy (not spoiled) childern... is that what you are getting from repton school? If the above is what you require then maybe look at a different school.

Citizenship By Decent is given to a child who is born outside of New Zealand to a New Zealand Citizen. For a NZ Citizen to pass on their citizenship to their child who is born outside of Ne Zealand they must either have been born in New Zealand themselves or completed the full Citizenship process. The process is quite simple: You need to fill out the application form it takes 20 working days, and passport 10 working days but for all 3 of my kids I got the passport within the month. [url=http://www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Services-Citizenship-Citizenship-Application-Fees-and-Forms?OpenDocument#one'>link[/url'> You then need to send the child's Original attested English Birth Cert (Baby Steps will do the whole process for you) The claim parent (your husband in this case) needs to send proof of citizenship and 2 forms of ID proving that he uses his name in the community any of these two will do: Current utility account (e.g. telephone, electricity) issued within the last 12 months. Current drivers licence. Proof of their name on an electoral roll. Current photo identification cards. Bank or tax statements issued within the last 12 months. Current cards issued for Government services. I sent in a DEWA bill and a copy of my drivers license (which was notorised by the NZ Consulate) but you can send in an original bank statement and DEWA Bill without going to the consulate. You then fill out the passport application put it all in the same envelope send it off and wait.

You have to give 90 days notice but your LL can still fine you 2 months if you are leaving before your current contract ends. Best bet is to talk to LL since prices are going crazy at the moment the LL might be glad to get you out and put the rent up. If you find a new tenant to replace you then LL shouldn't have a problem.

Whatever the license, premises are still required. This is just advertising for this company as they offer business set up services, but nothing new to the law, and you still cannot work freely from home. License and premises are required. PPM, did you actually read the article? I found it quite helpful. Of course I have read the article. But I know the law on business licensing and registration. But the article is about freelancing - not business licensing and registration. But the article is quite clear that you can only work part time if you have the correct permits and that you need either a Freezone individual/business license and can only do the activity covered by your Freezone to be a freelancer. Q. If I am on the residency of my husband, can I set up a business from home? A. No, residency does not mean you can start trading without the necessary trade approvals and licenses. A Freelance Business Licence might be the appropriate option for you in this case." edited by starsouthern on 01/06/2013

They've decided to move him back to Repton in September to prepare him for the Common Entrance exam in England at 11 but his sister will remain at Dess. I know 4 families whose children were in top sets of their class in R who did not pass the Common Entrance Exam in England at 11. At DESS there isn't the same pressure put on the kids as in R with studying for exams and homework but students still get excellent results and from my experience are happy. My child moved to DESS from another school where they were under a lot of pressure, yet didn't get the same results. I'm sure there isn't a school in the world that pleases every parent. We are very happy at DESS.

We love DESS! From our experience it is a very nurturing school. The kids are pushed without putting stress on them. They receive a lot of attention and lessons are catered to their needs despite there being 24 kids in the class. My child is in year 4 and the SAT levels in their class range from 4c-5a. We know quite a few people who moved their children from the famous R school to DESS and say that they are far happier and wished they had moved their children sooner. All the children I know including mine who moved from other schools in Dubai found they had to work quite hard for the first 6 months to catch up to the other kids in the class despite them being in top sets in their other schools.

There was a theory in one school in the UK whereby it was better for older teenagers to go into school from 10.00am. Judging by my teen, that would work very positively! There was a response study done on students of all ages which concluded that teenagers are more responsive and retained more information after 10am and uni students were after mid day or something whereas younger kids performed better earlier. The study also said that students who were allowed to eat when hungry and have water at their desks available to drink at all time also do better than those who are district end to eating and drinking at set times. edited by starsouthern on 17/05/2013

Second to last IB Diploma exam tomorrow morning. Anyone else with an offsprung who found today's Higher Level Chemistry well nigh impossible? My poor child was trying so hard not to cry that she left marks on her arms where she stuck her nails into them. And going back to an old argument, I really do think the relevant teachers should be there at the beginning and the end of external exams, even if it's their day off. We have paid the school for an entire term's teaching and the children have only been in school for lessons for two weeks, the rest has been study leave and sitting the exams. The exams are over next week and there is still another month of term left. I think the school and teachers owe this to their pupils. edited by simpleasabc on 16/05/2013 edited by simpleasabc on 16/05/2013 All the teachers I know are available for their students at the normal lesson time during their student's study break. All teachers I know say only one or two students will show up during study leave. If students don't want to go into school during study leave to see their teacher then there is nothing that teacher can do for them before the actual test. edited by starsouthern on 17/05/2013

Mirdif has a lot of Malls and shops. The nearest "drinking" establishment would be Festival City. I personally would take the school housing as the rents here have gone crazy. You will struggle to find something decent on your own and the cost (5% deposit and 5% agent fees, DEWA connection deposit) of renting out a house if you take the allowance is usually not paid by schools.

I then paid for the postage from sender to receiver and the courier companies put an airway bill number on it. I then fold the envelope in half and put it inside the first envelope with all paperwork. Once the paperwork is processed it gets put into the second envelope and the people call what ever company you've used to collect and deliver it to you. Never had a problem and no agreements needed to be in place, I've done the same process for NZ passports too.

What do you mean poor thing?? I work FT hence she is a very happy baby in nursery. I spend all weekend with her, take her swimming, play with other babies and am with her from the minute she opens her eyes to the minute she sleeps. I am talking about a [b'>monthly [/b'>evening with my husband when my baby is ASLEEP - she wouldn't even know. I am of the opinion that my marriage is still important and we don't neglect each other, and are still husband and wife not mum and dad. Why do people feel the need to make rude and patronising comments about working mums, when if I said the same about non working mums I would be banned! Poor thing indeed. DB you don't have to defend or justify to anyone why 1. Your baby is in nursery and 2. Why you would like to spend adult time with your husband. Unfortunately when it comes to parenting everyone's way is the right way! Maybe try and ask your husband for a one time thing and see if you can progress from there. I'm a true believer in spending 1 on 1 time. The other way (extra extravagant and expensive) would be to book a room in the hotel that you fave restaurant is in and get friend to baby sit in the room so DH doesn't feel too far away from DD.
