Fibbers is always a winner. The Stables which is next door to Fibbers is also good. They're behind the KFC which is next to the Raddison on SZR.

FYI working freelance here is NOT illegal, as long has you have freelancer residence visa !!!!!!!! There is no such thing as a Hairdressing Freelance Visa. A visa you get from the Freezones only allows you to work in the Freezone that your license is from. The Dubai Economic Department does not issue freelance visas.

With my first son I did combination BF and FF until he was eight months and my period didn't come until he was 14 months! My daughter was exclusively breast fed and my period started when she was 6 weeks old. 3rd son stopped BF at 6 weeks due to medical reasons period came right away but he's now 20 months and I've only just stopped lactating! Our bodies are funny things so yes you can get pregnant while BF that's how 3 of my friends are on baby no. 4 ? Yes there is a contraception pill you can take while bfing. When I had baby no 1 at Corniche hospital in AD they gave it to me as they said its best to wait a year before getting pregnant again. The contraceptive injection is also ok while bfing but does have side effects and is not recommended to use for more than 2 years. edited by starsouthern on 13/03/2013

DESS is a fantastic school. I don't know what admin staff you're referring to as the current admin are lovely. As Asti says you don't have any dealing with admin. The teachers that I've come in contact with are very dedicated and caring. Your child is not just another bum on a seat but a person who is cared for, pushed and nourished to be the best person they can be. When we first moved to DESS I was worried about the class size being at 24 when our old school had 16 and to be honest the teachers my son has had at DESS know him a lot better than the teachers at his old school he also gets far more one on one time with the teacher compared to his previous school. My son has gone from being clever but average academically, (his teacher at his old school said to me that I thought he was smarter than what he really is!) to being given assessments from the year above because he can't go any further in his current year. Even though children are pushed I feel that they're not put under unnecessary pressure. The teachers know how far each child can go. My son loves every minute he's at school. edited by starsouthern on 13/03/2013

No they don't and teachers on international contracts get between 75%-90% of fees for 2 kids. Also make sure you have a signed contract with them before you resign from any current job, don't rely on the offer letter as they do withdraw offers.

How tall is your baby? When my son was born he was 10 pounds and 24inches tall he fit in the first seat belt notches till he was 4 months at which point he was 27inches. We then moved up the seat belt which he happily stayed in until he was 30lbs.

Even if they write the debt off they may not necessarily be able to or want to close the police case against the person. I was told by someone in the bank industry that once the police case is opened banks can claim the amount on insurance. Don't know how true this is but banks will not withdraw or close the police case without the loan and fees incurred being paid off. Before the phenomenon of people leaving their cars at the airport there was a story in the paper about a famous singer who was hired here for a private event being arrested on arrival to Dubai as they had a 20 year old debt. edited by starsouthern on 12/03/2013

Landlord is correct unfortunately. As the calculator isn't showing figures for June he is allowed to say as per RERA guidelines. Thanks Starsouthern, that is the clarification I was looking for. I guess it will be another or 2 before the June figure shows. I think April is when they update for the next 3 months.

I saw a few 3 beds in the summer when they were renting them out for 45k but thought they were awful. I don't know if I was shown the wrong ones but the living dining area was so small where you would have to choose between having a sofa set or dining table and chairs you couldn't fit both! One of them had a space next to the kitchen without a door that they said was a maids room. I was really disappointed because the outside area was fabulous! I did think they would be like the Layan apartments which I think are lovely. edited by starsouthern on 06/03/2013

Please note that the increase of 50K was only as an approximate figure, not actual. No, she is not part of the greedy clan and neither does she want to do anything outside of the UAE law, that is why she is wondering what would be acceptable. She knows and has been told by the real estate guys that rents have increased in this area - but she doesnt know what is legally acceptable when it comes to renewing the contract. Your friend is only allowed to raise the rent by the percentage stated on the rental calculator for her particular property and area. She can't say well everyone else is advertising 200k so if you want to stay you need to pay 200k. If the rental calculator says no increase then she can't increase the rent. She needs to give her tenants 90 days notice in writing that she is increasing the rent. If she wants her tenants to move out she has to give them 12 months notice from the end of their current contract. A few of my neighbour's have negotiated that their current landlords pay for moving costs and agency fees for a new property plus 1 months free rent and the returning of their cheques for them to vacate early so their landlords can sell or move new tenants in for much higher rent.

Actually I think she does have some type of agency sponsorship. We never deal with her agency. I think she freelances and finds her own work but she does have an agency for her visa Just wondering, so is it illegal to call up the numbers of people who leave a slip of paper under your door saying they are looking for work as a maid? edited by Laura_C on 05/03/2013 It is only legal if you are hiring her through the Agency and have receipts from the Agency that sponsors her. If you don't have these receipts then you could face a fine of 50k++ Freelancing for maids is illegal.

To those that are pureeing foods; we have 2 blenders, neither of which completly puree the food. Harry still doesn't like that texture. He prefers proper puree; like the ones from the HiPP jars (suitable for 6mths). Any idea on how to get the food like that? If you add more liquid and then push through a sieve you'll get the same texture. However it is making a rod for your back really, I found with all 3 of mine that if I added baby's favorite fruit to whatever I was making they'd eat it up.

I worked in an office where there were 3 westerners the rest of the staff were from the Philipine. They used to go to a dentist in Satwa that used to charge 50dhs for a check up and clean so us 3 westerners went with a couple of girls to check it out and we were immediately quoted dhs 250, when we said but our colleagues only pay dhs 50 they said its because they earn less. Funny thing in our office was that we Westerners actually earned less!

Thanks for the information. Do you like living there, I've heard there is a good community centre, nice pools? We lived in Springs 15 and Springs 6 and hands down prefer the Ranches. The community areas here are much nicer and the people friendlier. Cats must be nicer too as our cat hasn't come home wounded in 2 years, at the Springs the vet bills were horrendous as he was always coming home with chunks of him missing! We lived in the Springs before they had finished the highways so traffic was awful then too. We were in a 4E in the Springs and our DEWA consumption was higher there, we had 1 less child at the time.

We have been asked to leave. Went to RERA and here is what they said: It completely does not matter what clauses the landlord puts on the contract when it comes to selling the place! He has to give you 12 MONTHS written and a attested notification by courier mail (that does not include email)!! He has to have it stamped by a notary office, as you can claim compensation if he rents it for a higher rent to someone else and does not sell it. Same rule applies to when he wants to move back in. The times are way over in Dubai where landlords could just kick a tenant out because they wanted to increase the rent! Which is the complete opposite of what both RERA and the Rent Committee told me when I took my contract to them. A friend who has a property here was also told by both RERA and the Rent Committee that she could give her tenants 12 months notice to vacate because they are paying under market value by email and that in 12 months she could rent the property at market value with no penalties. There is no precedence here that's why each person needs to take their own contract to the rent committee. edited by starsouthern on 27/02/2013

The only thing my Dr told me to avoid when I was pregnant with DS1 was mayo in any form. She said because of raw eggs for fresh and she said in jar stuff there's a preservative that's not good for babies. TBH I didn't even think to check about the preservative so don't know how true that is. Isn't the garlic sauce usually made from labneh which is yoghurt not mayo?

The rent committee and RERA both told me recently that the landlord can give you 90 days notice to move out. [b'>If you the tenant don't agree to moving then they have to give you 12 months notice.[/b'> edited by starsouthern on 26/02/2013 Ah, that's the important part, isn't it :D Yes but if you don't know and call RERA and the Rent Committee on the phone they both say 90 days notice is fine.
