I've been looking into getting one for a while and I've never heard anyone say they regret their purchase.

Australia has strict laws - bought about due to an incident at Port Arthur (Tasmania)in 1996. Most significant is the banning of all semi - automatic rifles and semi automatic / pump action shotguns. The main idea was that in a nutshell the average person doesn't require the above and that they can cause the most harm. And there hasn't been a mass shooting since! Obama has pointed to the Australian laws as the way forward for the US. Unlikely to happen though. edited by Stix on 31/08/2014

I am very new here and I do know it's challenging. So far I have found people are quite friendly but at the end of the day it's a two way street and both parties need to work hard if you want to get a friendship 'off the ground' so to speak. I do understand the challenges of nap times! We must follow a similar schedule because all the kids activities and coffee mornings seem to be smack bang in the middle of our nap time too. And my girl won't sleep just anywhere unfortunately! Did you invite people around when you had your baby? They may not have felt comfortable just dropping by. If they are inviting you to birthday parties etc then they actually are making the effort. They wouldn't invite you if they didn't want to spend time with you. Friendships change when babies come along. True friendships, maybe not, but either way they will change. You need to find a new way of interacting with old friends. It won't be as easy to meet up for coffee anymore and you might need to invite people over to your place etc etc. It does take work. You also need to be prepared to forgive when they can't fit in with you, and likewise they will have to do the same. Most importantly - the beauty of Dubai is that there are always new people to make friends with. So if you are feeling that the old ones aren't working out. Make some new ones :)

Violence is never okay. You will probably never get the full story of how that all came about. Interesting that an accent is a cause for bullying here - it's Dubai! Everyone has one! P.S. I hate the expression 'boys will be boys'. Being male is not an excuse for poor behaviour, any more that being female implies appropriate behaviour. edited by Stix on 28/08/2014

I live in the marina and was walking with my daughter on the promenade this morning. Saw six dogs. People not taking the signage terribly seriously one would suggest. I am a teacher and as such, a massive stickler for rules - but hey, depends how badly you want to walk your dogs.

We always try to do our bit here at home. Haven't gone as far as zero waste though. I think the food packaging over here is terrible. So much! I ordered in the other day. Just for myself. There were three bags of bits and pieces for a burger and a drink!! Not to mention the foam trays in the supermarket. Congratulations on your efforts to be green in a city where it's quite challenging to do so!

Is your employer able to assist with this process at all. They must understand that this is causing a challenge for you. Alternatively, could you look at a maid/nanny?

As long as you have been doing the exercise before and you feel comfortable I would stick with it. I stopped exercise very early on as I was so ill with MS. Wished I hadn't as it's basically impossible to get back into it during your pregnancy. You are the best judge of your own body. Good luck with everything!

Depends on the accuracy of the test. Give it a go anyway!

The jars/pouches here are quite limited in variety and many of them have hidden extras that you probably wouldn't add to your fresh/homemade food. Ella's seem the best and, as Daza said, good for emergencies or to take if you're going out. The Heinz Organic range is quite good, but again, not many flavours and on the expensive side for what they are. There are also products available that allow you to add homemade food to reusable or disposable pouches if you like.

I have been doing a lot of research on this recently, I've found that my bub was waking a lot at night because she was cold. I wouldn't have thought it was possible given the amount of bedding and sleeping bags etc that she was wearing. She used to be swaddled but has recently moved into a sleeping bag which is much easier for us. I got some good advice about adding cotton/bamboo layers over bub so that you can add/take away without disturbing them during the night. Rather than adding clothing to the baby. Make sense? edited by Stix on 14/08/2014

Could you try some steam? Maybe run the hot water in the shower to steam up the room and take him in there with some 'vicks'. You could also try their baby balsam product which is more mild for the bugs - could perhaps put it on his chest for him to inhale?

I am a high school teacher so one thing I do know is that all teens are different and are motivated by different drivers. As such, a one size approach will be difficult. OP knows their teen the best and in their heart probably knows the reasons for the behaviour. You know the right thing to do here. Maybe just apprehensive to do it.

I'm in the same boat! Mine just screams and screams, poor soul! Just make sure you are only warming the smallest amount of milk possible - not a whole feed so you can minimise what you have to toss. Make sure you freeze in small amounts too. Our child health nurse also recommended madela CALMA - sound research behind it, but we are still on struggle street!

It's like reading about my own situation exactly except my little one is only 11 weeks! I have lived in Dubai before, years back, so do know a few lovely people, some with kids. Look at the coffee mornings on this site. Do you know when you might be making the move?
