This might be the best solution as she will have room to stack the dishes after they are washed. Putting another sink in the already crowded maids room might not work but thats just me :)...you can make it lovely by surrounding it with plants, putting the bench on slate etc...... http://mepperly.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Make-an-Outdoor-Sink just a note here. When I had a live in cleaner, she had access to our sink and dishwasher anytime. She preferred to wash the dishes in her bathroom sink and shower.....when she left, the sink was in awful condition as it was not made for dishes. If I had thought about it I would have attached an outdoor sink to her kitchen...since no urging from me to use the house made one iota of difference. She insisted on using her sink. p.s. if you go this route make sure she scrapes her dishes well and puts the leftover oil in a container and not down the drains/toilets or they will end up in the garden ,, no good + edited by SueB on 30/09/2011

Lets see. The stress of changing jobs. Stress of leaving family. Stress of moving a long distance and getting ready for the move. The stress of trying to get settled in a strange country. I could go on and on but....you are allowed to be tired, exhausted. Force yourself into a routine, go and exercise, fresh air...get out (assuming here you are not working?) Eat well and...make an appt with the Dr. if it continues. right. and drink lots of water :)

honestly, I dont know. I just know it is in the Um Sequim/Jumeriah/bur dubai etc area, or so I am told. Maybe they havent gotten out that far yet :)...think the road sweepers have also been told to smarten up as the alley seem to be much cleaner.....hmmmm now if someone would move the derilict boat that has been there for 3 years a few blocks over lol...

apparently it is the whole of Dubai. My gardener told me he had been told twice by the municipality that if they saw him dumping yard stuff he would be fined. It has been somewhere on the website along with cleaning up Dubai, new bins etc. So, after alot of calling, frustration, aggravation with the Municipality I found out: 1. When you or your gardener have a lot of plant material to dispose of, call 800900 and find out when they will pick up. You leave all your info and they will come and get it. It is to be left behind the bin. 2. Supposedly they do pickup 2x a week...today is the first time for me. Lets see how it works.

It seems it is the gardeners who have been threatened with fines. I do wish the Municiple workers who are making the threats would come to me because I might then be able to find out what the alternative is. As it is now, we are once again flying by the seat of our pants because Dubai wants the streets pristine :(.....

did you check the gas station? There used to be a colony there. Cats dont go far if they are spayed and he is getting food and attention with you so I am sure he will show up. A gal who lived in that area had gone away and her cat went missing, she came home to look for him with no luck. Weeks later her husband was walking down the street and there he was, just sitting on the sidewalk waiting lol....who knows where he had been but he looked pretty good so, theres hope yours has found a girlfriend for the minute lol

officecheck, I dont think there are any support groups for Alzheimers but there might be for dementia. You could contact this clinic and I am sure they will be able to direct you. http://www.neurology.ae/disorder_details.php?ID=1 It sounds as if your step mother might not have any support? Does she live in Dubai? It is tough for caregivers and very stressful. Often there is not an outlet if there is nothing in their community. She hopefully has a good Dr. herself and she is taking care of herself. If she does not live here then you can find a Society in her area and direct her there for support. Caregivers often pass away before their spouse because of the high stress, especially if they are trying to cope alone and the patient is living at home. Since they can wander and have sundowners where they get restless at this time of day, it makes it difficult for caregivers to rest. I do hope you can find support here. You might just have to organize a support group yourself. There are enough people I am sure who would attend.

I was in Canada when my mom was finally diagnosed, although in another Province. I also have 2 brothers and a sister who were at home so it was easier for me. I think it sounds like your father has many close friends to care about him and you will have to get them on your side to help. Right now dont try and look at the big picture because it is too much to cope with now, look at small bits. Start with the Alzheimer Assoc to help you, they will know how to approach your dad for assement and will be a huge support. When I was able to fly home we met with the association in the early days to help us cope and find direction. I spent alot of t ime on the phone with Dr.s, mom and family to keep up to date. When it became clear she could not live on her own, we found a lovely assisted living apt for her. She could come and go, her room was very nice, good care and activities. She still took care of herself, had a bit of help if she needed it for bathing and her 'thing' was tissue paper folding, lining them up all around the room. The staff always put them back so she could spend hours arranging and rearranging. This was the only glaring thing really that she did, there were others but tissue folding was her bag :). She did not want to leave her home but she did not have any choice so all of us moved her, her things were waiting for her, pictures up and we tried to make it homey which of course it wasnt :(...but.. she was safe. I still called her but she would often get confused about who I was on the phone as she was starting to lose her cognative abilities, it was much easier for her to know me face to face. She did stop using the phone because it upset her. I flew down to see her when I could and I always left in tears...she was angry about the disease and that made things difficult for us and her...we could not help very much and especially not living close made things more difficult. How did I cope when I moved to Dubai. I have no idea Arohadxb, honestly. I just coped...cried when alone, got angry that I could not bring her here as she would have loved it :). Had to rely on the Homes updates. By the time I came to Dubai she had to be moved into a locked facility as she had started wandering and had the lovely police keep bringing her back (we thought she was really looking for a date or a bar for a beer lol). The locked facility was the most difficult to cope with....when I flew home it was such a heartbreak to see all these people who did not remember much of anything, not able to speak, eat on their own....it was a blessing I think when mom got to the not remembering anything stage. I think she was much more content. Her face became soft and smooth, it is like her wrinkles left her face, for the most part...no more worries. That made it a bit easier for me anyway, knowing there was only small pockets that she would remember now and then. You could look into her eyes and know she was there, then, 30 seconds later they would be blank and she had left again. She had not known me for quite a long time by now but she knew I am sure, that I belonged to her somehow :)..... So, you start at the beginning to find the road you need to go on...you get the people on board who need to be there, if you have family you make sure they are stepping up to the plate, you get your dad support and yourself because Alzheimer Disease is just so heartbreaking :(...you cannot do it alone :( Not sure if that even answered the question about how do we cope being so far away? not sure if there ever is a good answer to that.

Arohadxb. My mother died from complications of Alzheimer Disease. She had it for 16 years unfortunately. The biggest thing for your father is acceptence. It does not sound as if he is there, or might never be and there will be a time you will have to step in and over the other people in his life to make him safe :(. I suggest you start writing/calling the local Alzheimer association in your area/country to start gathering information and a support for yourself. They will guide you on what to look for, what is coming, how you might persuade him to go for elimination testing. It is terribly heartbreaking and there is lots of tears, guilt and massive change to all your lives. There are also wonderful moments you can share and remember. You will learn about how to make a special memory book for him with pictures, videos as long as he can follow, books as long as he can comprehend. Anyway, that is for the future. Right now you need information and support so start with the Alzheimer association in his area and have a long talk. I have just finished a book called 'Still Alice' about a womans journey through Alzheimer disease. Even though I lived with it for 16 years I learned alot from this great book. I should add here that it might not be Alzheimer Disease at all but something else, ie, combination of medication, wrong meds, something else going on, that might be a good way to get your dad tested because the diagnosis is not an exact science but one of elimination. I am wondering if the point arohadxb was somehow missed, a bit? I do understand what she is saying and she sums it up in her last para below. I 'think' she is saying that it is sad that the op looked back on being a sahm and asked if that was all there is and all she has achieved, as if it was not much? I dont think aroha is saying sahms should be fulfilled and happy about staying home but should take that chunk of life and embrace it while it lasts, then move on to other things. I wonder if looking back on your life and thinking you have not achieved anything or 'is that it' in relation to being the major carer of your children could just mean it is time for you to reevaluate your past in order to move forward. Surely there have been other wonderful achievements in life that can also count? Anyway, there will always be 3 camps in relation to sahms :)...those that do, those that dont and those that want what the others have.

not sure if this will help but...he has done my colonoscopies for the last 5 years and I find him a very caring, thoughtful Dr who ask and answers all my questions. I do know that he goes the extra mile for his surgery patients (close friend) and has no problem giving out his mobile if you have questions. If I had to have major surgery, he would be one of the 'go to'Doctors for me :). Have no idea what his experience is with children in surgery but I would imagine pretty good ;)

...seriously, why when someone asks a question we have people who trot out the old "why can't you take care of your own children. Maids make people lazy. Why can't you clean up your own mess especially if you dont work"blah blah blah. Sure there are people who have the maids take care of their kids and they are not all expats. I am a non working woman and I have a cleaner come in. I could spend my days cleaning and organizing, cooking etc but I dont want to. I hate Ironing and am not good at it. I can always find better things to do that do my house. It is not dirty, maybe a bit dusty lol...my clothes and husbands clothes are clean, my kitchen gets cleaned but does not always sparkle. When the cleaner comes in, at the end of the day, the house sparkles, clothes are ironed, floors are washed. that makes us both happy and we can afford it. If a mother who works and has children needs help so be it. Many moms in Canada have some kid of helper be it baby sitter, nursery or after school programs. And..my gosh, we also have cleaners lol....so stop with the puckering of the lips and let us get on with it lol...

I should have added that I have looked in the Wafi Souk, Dubai Mall Souk and souk where the restaurants are and other places I cannot remember names of....they have the very small boxes with inside Khatam but nothing bigger than 6 or 8 inches. unless things have changed since June, this is my experience. There is no 200 dhm fine and if the police ask for one, call the station. You only go to the station if there are 2 cars involved. If it is only your car and you ran into post/can etc, go back to the scene of the crime and call the police to report it. They will come to you,be patient :) If it is just a little scratch you can take it to an autobody shop and they will usually match the paint and fix it for you..cheap. We have done this twice but the last post just leaped out and needed more work lol

I dont think it pisses anyone off that there are those of you who absolutely go gaga over Tims lol....anymore than it tickes people off about those of us who cannot understand why anyone goes gaga over Tims and..we are also Canadian. You guys flip over Tims, we don't...you go on and on about Tims, we cannot understand why because you admitedly do not even think the coffee is great. I admit their donuts are pretty good though lol... As an aside here. If I was going out for dinner to a restaurant and their food was mediocre but the atmosphere was good, would I continue putting my money into this place, nope, nope nope. Just because it is from my home country? nope. if the tenant has paid a years rent in advance and it has come out of his account then the rental company and the employees company should be working it out, not the employee. Haven't read all the thread but I don't agree with this.....the company has given the employee (tenant) a years worth of rent in advance. Employee is now leaving prior to the year being completed, so that must mean that he has to pay back to his company the balance, as its now money he isn't entitled to. If the lease is in the employee's (tenants) name, then he is responsible to sort it out, firstly with his landlord and then pay it back to the employer. If the employee is fired, then do they still receive gratuity? I didn't think this was the case. but from my understanding, the employee was given 100,000 for the rent which was to be paid in 1 cheque. He paid 100000 in one cheque. He did his bit, he paid his rent with the money the company gave him. So, if anyone is going to be out money, it will be the employee, and no one else. All the employee did was turn over the 100,000 to the rental agent, not spent it. Now the company wants it back and the rental agent will not retrn it? so....I would think the employees company should be responsible here, certainlynot the employee who gave the rent cheque to pay the rent.

look, have a chat with your husband. Tell him for some reason you are feeling very insecure and I am sure once you share this with him and having a chat about it, at the end you will feel much better. Our husbands should be able to share these things that go round in our heads, he might think it silly but, you have shared it with him. Maybe something has happened recently that has made you feel a bit insecure, talking with him should help immensely :)

Why would someone put a bad picture of themselves on Facebook? Now to my mind, the only way you would know it was a bad picture is if you actually had met the person face to face :). Otherwise I would think rather than it being a bad picture, you do not think the person is very attractive. This of course is how the person really looks like so.........what is that saying about the person who thinks the picture is a bad picture without ever seeing this person lol.. and on and on and on

aww Greenish!!! I would have said put the family out of the way and let the animals stay. Little kid whacks a baby, the mother thinks its cute and says "no johnny be gentle" johnny not sure what gentle is exactly, whack the baby again and again the mother says gently and again Johnny is not sure exactly what she means. and so on and so on.....so mother of baby can show Johnny what gentle is, or not have rotten kid with mother over ever again lol... oh and I am rambling lol

great that yoour friend took in so many ;)...they look pretty good and the white mum, once she gets herself cleaned up is lovely. Can I suggest that once the moms are spayed that your friend tries to rehome them if possible? It will be difficult on them to be put back on the streets after having regular food/water/attention unless they are going back where there is someone who will feed them. It will most likely take longer but all my mums have been adopted and many along with the last kitten, so, it is not hopeless :)

Wash everything you wear if you havent already. Do you notice how smelly people are that smoke? you dont stink any more :)...as time goes on you will find the smoke smell of people really gets to you....when you want a smoke, jump up and down for 1 minute lol.....anything to get the thought out of your head....you can do it...go for it...dont stop, dont let the nicotine take over your life again!!!!

yes ladies there could be and should be small medical problems and of course any cat can live to 25 and yes of course we do not expect someone to take a cat expecting them to pop off at 2 years later rather than a somewhat short term ie under 5 year committment.... if there is interest in a geriatric cat, I would have to assume the person applying for the position of retirement coordinator will have some idea of what to expect :)
