They are not allowed to employ female maids but I do believe they can employee house boys...they of course can have a daily agency maid come in, just not sponsor.

I was just going to write that Sue62 :)..great minds lol... Well then, I would just forget about her and assume she is fine, not let the police search for her or find out if she has a phone etc....as a matter of fact, I would just pack her stuff up and send it to the cousin and let her deal with it, and hope she (the cousin)is not the kind of maid who would hurt a child out of spite. Now that is very scary. It is also scary if the cousin was/is in on the deception and possibly helping plan the whole thing. Now, that would be a maid I would really want taking care of my child.

and....you could slip in an insulated bags with your lovely home prepared dinner lol....and your own wine of course...and you dont have to wait for a cab...just walk home to your hotel. Makes sense to me...:)

has anyone checked out how much a hotel room would be say split amonst 6 friends? having nothing to do at the moment, I checked lol.....you can get a hotel room, within walking distance of Kalifa for around 700dhm a night, toss in a hidabed and bring some sleeping bags and it would work lol... <em>edited by SueB on 01/01/2011</em>

The best Idea if you are going to do New Years at Burj Kalifa? Rent a suite in the hotel with a few friends, have dinner brought up and sit on your balcony watching the fireworks, then you can either stay up until 4a.m. and go home or just curl up and sleep. <em>edited by SueB on 01/01/2011</em>

I think her question is one I would also ask if I was invited to an engagement party from a different culture. I just tried to google and I dint think you are required to give a gift at all or I certainly could not find any reference to it. Why not ask the bride to be :)...or a family member, I am sure they will be pleased to help you :)

I dont think the precedure has changed? it is quite easy to do I believe. Cancelling a Housemaid visas It is easy What you need to do/have 1. Fill in the visa cancellation form at the typist. Most typist can do it 2. A photocopy of the sponsor's passport 3. One way ticket for the housemaid. 4. You can cancel the visa at Dubai Airport. Go to the check-in counter. 5. Check in and obtain the boarding pass. 6. Go to the passport control counter. There will be a police check-point. They we tell you to go to the immigration counter to have the visa cancelled. Remember the sponsor has to be there. They will do the cancellation process, and ensure that there is no problem with the visa status. Show them sponsor's passport, cancellation form and your housemaid's passport. They will also ask for the labour card. 7. The process takes 10 mins. 8. Your x-housemaid proceeds to the passport control counter and then to the boarding gate and you proceed home.
