GoodMorning, sorry for the delayed reply. I would luv to share results on a daily basis and yes, could use all the motivation i can get to reach 12000. Its not as easy as it seemed :). How would you suggest we do it though? I have joined sparkpeople.com (my third time on and off there) and this time I am hoping to stay focussed and on it. So far I have clocked about 7000-8000 steps max on average per day.. that is about 5 - 5.5km per day. Since doing the c25k will gradually increase the distance, i am keeping that as my training. You mentioned you are using ur pedometer... may i ask which brand and how is it? do you wear it all day?

I think you are doing great smita :) I personally dont think I can jog as fast.. walking maybe yes, but not jogging. I hope your sugar levels are normal and you find the workouts easier as you progress through the days. :) I am now at 5km per day... again its the walk to the office via corniche. Its so much easier and fun as the whole walk is uninterrupted and except for the 2 crossing i take to get to the corniche from my home and the one crossing from the corniche to my office, the rest of the walk is scenic, by the sea, lots of other walkers with their dogs and otherwise, joggers and cyclists, a sweet lady feeding cats.... its lovely :) I am so hoping I can stick to this even when the weather becomes warmer/hotter in june... its so much easier than a workout regime as such, just need to leave to work about 30 mins early, which I am doing anyway if I needed to catch the bus :)

Till now I have been using a pedometer app on my iPhone, however I am considering getting a pedometer with heart rate monitor for this purpose... Might encourage me to reach my daily goal :) and to move in the range required for weight loss.

thanks Smita :) hope you are able to do it on the treadmill and that you are progressing. my update: so far finished 33km walking over the last 11 days, at 3km every day. Have noticed a definite improvement in my speed from day 1. am considering moving onto 5km per day with a bit of jogging (c25k) in between. Probably from next sunday, I will start along the corniche which will give me that additional 2km required. Hope to hang in there and keep it up. edited by sumi on 27/02/2012

Hi Smita, thanks for your words of encouragement. :) and really wish we had been living closer together so that we could have helped each other in our fitness regime. Usually the c25k program is done 3 days a week for about 9 weeks. I modified it to 5 days a week but did not complete the 9 weeks due to various reasons. Since I live in the city, I chose to run on the pavement outside my building. I would run about 500m then turn around and run back and turn around and run again in the same 500m distance. This was a bit boring, however the first 3 weeks of the c25k program moves very fast as before you get comfortable/uncomfortable in a particular phase (walk/jog) you move on to the next phase and before you know it you are done. I did enjoy it however like I said couldnt keep up. I cant do this now, as I moved to the heart of the city and with the shops and people its just too uncomfortable for me. As to speed, I went with the speed comfortable for me, as I have never jogged in my life, so I didnt want to burn myself or dread my workout. The walk phase I would do in a speed slightly above normal but not too brisk. The jog pace, i would take short strides but quicker jog steps (not longer strides, as this would tire me out easily and I would not be able to complete that phase). Unfortunately I didnt map my speed in each phase... I suggest you go with what your body can handle... start slow and steady and work your way up. For instance, the week one program will take you 3 days to do. Do this in the most comfortable pace your body can handle and then on day 4, maybe you could do the same week 1 program at a slightly strenuous pace and see how you are able to manage it? You could maybe do this slightly strenuous phase for the next two days till you feel comfortable in it and then move to week 2 program. Remember to take days off inbetween, as your body/muscles need time to recover and heal. If you are going for 5 days at a stretch, then take the weekend 2 days off. I did try the c25k on a treadmil... it was a manual treadmill however, but I felt uncomfortable on the manual treadmill... a bit disoriented the minute I started to move so had to leave it. On an electric treadmill, I do not know if its easy to pre-configure your program speeds for that week? Maybe you can try to do a basic walk and see your speed and then a comfortable jog and see your speed. Then if its possible to pre configure the workout program, you can set it to those values? Hope I have been of some help, and good luck on the c25k. You can even post in this thread of your progress once you start so that it is easier :) take care edited by sumi on 14/02/2012

since no one is able to join me, I changed my idea to walking from home to work instead. About 3km one way, 5 days a week. So I leave home (at electra) about 7:40 and reach my office in khalidiya about 8:20. Since the climate is absolutely wonderful in the morning this is really pleasant. :) My pace alternates between a brisk walk and normal walk. So if anyone would like to join me (in the near future) you can post here. In the meanwhile, I am going to post my progress here, so as to keep me motivated (and accountable) and hopefully may motivate someone (to eventually) to join me ;) edited by sumi on 13/02/2012

I have one but actually wish I didn't. I should have opted for a blackberry :( I don't use any of the applications and find the screen sensitive (I am always accidently calling people etc). well, if you ever decide to get rid of your iPhone, let me know. I have a blackberry bold 9780 (with 5 months warranty left) and have been looking to exchange with a 1yr used iphone. There is a small chip on top right corner, but we checked it and were told its a cosmetic chip and not affecting the phone. & OS is up to date. :) Infact DH maybe the only person who has a blackberry not using the blackberry data package. :O edited by sumi on 24/11/2011

why not just buy a DVD recorder (they come very cheap now) and plugin the av cables into the input slot of the dvd recorder and the output of the VHS player and hit play (on VCR) and record (on DVDR). And after you are done, you can use it to record your tv programs too :)

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. We finally decided to pick up laminate flooring, as it seemed the most feasible. Ended up paying about 30dhs per sq.m. Did check up bamboo flooring in dragon mart, however the price was way up there and as we did not want to spend that much, decided to go with the laminate instead.

ok, I found a few contacts, so I am going to call them up tomorrow evening (incase they happen to be open) and on Saturdays to check them out. As we may have to finalise the flooring by saturday morning... However if you did use any particular company or know of any Mariana, please do let me know. Thanks :)

hi Mariana, Thanks for your suggestion, however googling 'bamboo flooring abu dhabi / dubai/ uae' did not give me any results here in the uae. Did a search on expatwoman forum too and that came empty as well. Do you know of any place that deal in them? Would really like to check them out as it seems worth looking into.

Thanks starsouthern. I did go around and ask some other companies and was quoted from between 4000-8000 for flooring. But these were uk standard wood floors, however it still does not make much sense to me to spend as much since we may move out of this apartment anytime between 2-5 years. So if dragon Mart stuff can last reasonably long then might as well go for that I guess.... Would u happen to remember if you did anything in particular to maintain / clean it? Thanks

Ok, my question is a bit more detailed than the subject. I have an [url=http://cn1.kaboodle.com/hi/img/2/0/0/44/f/AAAAAgvtNqMAAAAAAET7SA.jpg?v=1177796563000'>Ikea Hemnes four poster bed frame[/url'>. Its a brownish yellow colour now and I would like to paint it [url=http://www.kaboodle.com/hi/img/c/0/0/56/1/AAAADO_-mycAAAAAAFYf4w.jpg'>white as in here[/url'>. The bed frame is 160cm x 200cm... and then the additional height of the four posts... The surface is very grainy, so I am assuming I dont have to sand it. My question is, can I just go into a paint store and pick up any 'White' paint and paint it? or is there any particular type I must look for and how much quantity? sorry, but I am absolutely clueless..

And if your totally lost, gift vouchers from carrefour or centrepoint is the most practical option, especially if u r unsure about the nationalities. Almost everyone knows or shops at carrefour and centrepoint stores. It's practical and very useful too. And as gea1984 said, a night for 2 at some resort would be great too. Even better a night for the family. Cause I know if I were to get a voucher for a nights stay for me and dh, I would be in a fix as to what to do with my ds. Overnight babysitting is not very practical especially if u don't have close family members here.

I agree with Gea1984, no pens and mousepad and key chains please, especially ones with company logos. It would help if you knew the nationality/age group and family martial status of the client. That way you can ensure ur gift is appropriate and will be used by the client.

Just browsed the new [url=http://store.apple.com/a'>online UAE apple store[/url'>. The prices are in general the lowest in the market, but still higher than the US store. However, they do have a lot of cool stuff as found in the US store. The iPhone and iPad is priced much much less, almost equal to the US prices. Delivery times vary from immediately to a few days to a month depending on stock availability. Seems the store is not located in UAE as such but has free delivery on purchases above Aed 520. Well visiting the site will pretty much sum it up :) Gulfnews has an article [url=http://gulfnews.com/business/technology/apple-launches-its-first-online-store-in-the-uae-1.869956'>here[/url'> And emiratesmac.com has a discussion [url=http://www.emiratesmac.com/forums/site/14516-apple-site-uae.html'>here[/url'>

Why not simply order it direct from Amazon? To be honest, i hanv't done that before...ordered anything from amazon that is. So no clue how to go about it. Also worried that shipping charges might be over the top for just a single DVD. :(

And the Mac app store is available only on Snow Leopard. :( I checked the apple website. there seems to be no way i can pay via credit card and download it online. If anyone has done that sucessfully, please let me know how to so that I can try that.

Hi coffeemate, yes I find it the hardest too. I did it for the 30 day slim down program in june and it really was not my favorite. I find drinking some water an hour to 30 min before the workout helps and so does keeping about 2 liters of water next to me during the workout. Towards the end I do end up taking a lot of breaks. I just try to keep going and telling myself, "change is happening, I can do this, just a few circuits more... just a few days more..." ...sigh, I hope I can do this next 30 days too as I hope to do the BFBM once every 3 days this time round.

Hi Kalai, I have been trying to lose my pregnancy weight for some time now and well I have been yo-yo-ing instead. Unless you would be able to stick to a diet plan for a few years, there is a likelyhood that you will gain back some of the weight once you start eating normal after a diet. I lost 4 kg (7-8 pounds) in June this year, by doing the following. I did a home video workout by Jillian Michaels. She has workouts of varying time limits.. from 20 minutes to upto an hour. I would wait till either my DS is asleep or till DH get home and is with DS to do my workout. If you are unable to spend an hour, I think you could try for 20 minutes or closest. As regards food, I have been eating more veggies, fruits, drinking plenty of milk (about 3 glasses, with some flavoring). I have however reduced or almost avoided 2 things: Sugar: I do not add sugar to any of my drinks anymore. Occasionally I do take sugar, but its no longer a necessity. Rice / white flour: For lunch I eat the meat/fish/vegetables etc. Just avoid rice and now dont find it a necessity anymore either. I stick to not eating rice or taking sugar on all weekdays. However on weekends, I give myself a free rein, but do not over eat or let go. Once or twice a month, i even eat KFC/ pizza (thin crust) etc, but in moderation. With a bit of control I think you can easily lose 9 kg in 3 months for sure. Just remember once you start losing the weight, dont put your guard down, as we then tend to think, "oh I lost 1 kg, i can eat an additional treat today" and then you think that the next day and the weight comes back with a vengance. Whatever change you make in your food habits, think of it as a long term change. another suggestion is: 1. change your food habits, example, reduce rice / carbohydrates intake and increase ur veggie/meat/fish/dairy intake. 2. after some time add a bit of exercise, how much ever you can... 5, 10, 20 minutes everything matters. 3. again after some time, keep up the exercise, but add back a bit of carbohyrates, if you are really missing them or cannot live with out it. However, keep up the exercise and veggies etc. 4. and continue on that till you reach your goal weight. Then keep yourself active adequately atleast 5 days a week. Remember even if you can squeeze in 10 minutes of some kind of workout, its a bonus. :) 5. And yes, its ok to miss a day or two or three, just get back up and keep going :) hope this helps, good luck!

Hi Cyclone T & GreenQueen, I had posted in the Dubai forum and thanks to Chocs01, I have been directed to the right board :) and really glad to find this thread to post my progress and be accountable I am starting on Saturday (6th) to end on 31st... for about 4 weeks, with a day off in each week. I did a trial run the day before, of the ripped in 30 and it kicked my butt! My program: For the evenings, 6 days a week (Sat-Thu), I will be doing: -NMTZ on day 1 -6W6P on day 2 -BFBM on day 3 -6W6P on day 4 -NMTZ on day 5 and so on for the next 4 weeks. For the mornings, 5 days a week (Sun-Thu), -Ripped in 30 I had previously done the 30 day shred (for about 20 days) then took about 8 months break, and decided to mend my ways for good. So, this June I did the 30 Day slim down with impressive results (managed the entire 30 days) WOW and YAY! and I know I dont want to do the 30 Day Shred levels again, so decided to do the ripped in 30 instead along with NMTZ & BFBM & 6W6P for variety. edited by sumi on 04/08/2011

thanks Chocs01 for the reply. To be honest, I had no clue about the BB till after I read your post. I had previously checked out the etisalat website and even though I understood what they offered I couldn't understand why the difference in myplan and bb plans. (the whole 'data plan' concept was going over my head... :O I can't belive I have become so slow!) and when u and desertrain mentionned the 'not going to post paid' did I really understand what the etisalat plans meant. :) (yes, I really have No clue.. or had rather) anyways thaks for the feedback guys, and we have finally decided on using the MyPlan Basic plan with the BB lite usage package. Since we got our BB from outside etisalat, we wont be able to use the dataplan that comes with Myplan, so will be buying the Lite usage (or unlimited social plan) for the time being with it. :) edited by sumi on 10/05/2011

Hi Islandgirl, I suggest you post at the dubai and northern emirates forums for quicker replies. There are more users active on there and even me, though i am in abu dhabi, prefer posting there for quicker replies from more users. I saw the groupon promo too, however I would be doing mine in India, as its much cheaper (half the price of the coupon) and its done by a hospital much recomended by a lot of friends who have done it there.

thanks for the suggestions ladies. As some of you have suggested, spraying it elsewhere, like on the back might help a bit too... so the scent is not exactly 'in my nose (face)' :) I dread the visit to the shop though, cause I am going to have to smell them all and decide... will have to swallow 2 panadols just before I go in to stay sane :) (any suggestions for that ladies? )

I find that any perfume with musk in it starts a horrific migraine. Probably like you, I'm one of the people that runs past the perfume shop ladies when they start wanting to spray you - eek!!! LOL! yes I do that often. When I see one of the ladies with their arm reaching out for me, I immediately say 'sorry, I'm alllergic' and 'brisk' walk away with a quick smile... previously when my sisters were with me, I could give them the perfume/deo if I couldn't use it. However can't do that now as they are in another country... :( I'll try both Paradise de Nina & bvlgari rose... gotta find something soon. As the days get warmer, I dont want to risk having to enter a bus and emptying it :)
