nieces/nephews and parents - pay for everything (but parents always try to pay for some stuff themselves). Siblings - pay for occasional meal/coffees etc, but if they want to do something touristy they pay themselves. Same for friends. When I go home, siblings/friends don't pay for me nor do they put me up....

Maybe look at becoming a teaching assistant. Jebel Ali Primary are advertising now. Failing that part-time work. Look on the jobs section.

When I was getting my phone connected, I took a day off work to make sure I was home for there arrival. Shock horror - no show. Called call centre. No one could help, was told I would get a call back in 48 hours. 48 hours pass, no call. I phone call centre to find out why. Told they didnt know why I didn't get a call. Was told they would get someone to call me - that would take 48 hours. They didn't get why I was a bit disgruntled by the whole debacle.....

Such a waste of young life:( I have just read some of the posts on Facebook. These abhorrent, repugnant, sickening comments... Well I'm at a loss for words. What has happened to humanity?

My tenants were in receipt of housing benefit, or DSS tenants. DSS tenants get housing benefit paid directly to them, therefor the LL is not guaranteed to get money unless they are 8 weeks late or an agreement is made with all parties. The LA does monitor private housing let out to DSS tenants as they are covered by the housing act the LA can step in as our case.

I did rent to DSS. They were nothing but trouble hence my knowledge about late payments.....they did a bit of damage, but the deposit was enough to pay. But they damaged the property and then told the local council I wasn't looking after the place so they sent someone round to inspect and it turns out that my place was in fact ok after I had the damage sorted... There are no guarantees regardless of DSS or private. Although my private tenants have been so lovely and really taken care of the house. Would I have DSS again? Yes on the following conditions: housing benefit paid straight to me from the start, excellent references and a working guarantor who owns their own property...

Why is it that when I go food shopping the shop keeps extra money because the smallest coins they have are 25fils? It rarely works in my favour! (it may only be 25fils, but multiply it by the number of times it happens each year and for the shops that makes huge amounts) Why don't you use a credit card when you go food shopping? :\: Don't have a CC. When I first moved out here, more years ago than I care to remember, it was very much a cash society and I've kind of stuck with it. Also, poor dh would have a heart attack at the thought of me going out with a CC...

The rent is not guaranteed as there is no legal requirement for it to be paid direct to landlord. The only way you can get it paid to you is if they become 8 weeks behind with rent if on a monthly payment. Now a lot of people get confused with this. The money becomes 8 weeks behind after 4 weeks and 1 day as they have missed 2 months payments. if they are private tenants you can start the eviction process at this time too. Also, why are bills in your name. If it is utilities make tenants put it in their name. That way they are liable and they have to go after them not you. Pass on any known addresses. Make sure you get references and for DSS ask for a guarantor who is employed and owns their own house! Do you have a good letting agent? I recommend that you have one as being out of the country can make things difficult.

Why is it that crisp packets are so big, yet the contents are virtually non-existent? Why is it that the chocolate fairy always knows when to come to my house, but the cleaning fairy lost the directions? Why is it that when I go food shopping the shop keeps extra money because the smallest coins they have are 25fils? It rarely works in my favour! What I think you need to do is ensure HMRC know you are a non resident. There is a form you complete and return to them. It is prob on their website and can be downloaded. Any earnings from here are non taxable, tax would be paid on any interest (of which currently is almost 0!) earned on money you have in bank accounts etc in the UK. However, you still get the tax allowance so you potentially wont owe tax. I pay tax on my property rental income only. HTH. Just to add that you can no longer claim a personal tax allowance to offset against income earned in the UK eg from rental property. The rules were change from April 2011. According to HMRC you can claim if you are a national of certain countries.

If you think the UK government machinery is so sophisticated that the immigration department and the tax department are in any way conected then you're in for a shock!!! People can work and pay tax while claiming benefits and never get caught!! Buy lots of jumpers!!! A lot of them don't realise that the left hand and right hand are actually attached to the same body! Eta - check that your offshore bank is attached to a government guarantee system and how much this covers. edited by summer breeze on 11/10/2012

There is also a camel festival in December. Al Dhafra at Madinat Zayed. It's a long way to go from Dubai, but an interesting experience. They also have camel racing. It's on from 15-29 December. Last year no racing on a Friday, but Saturday had racing. There is a market on the opposite side of the Al Ain Rd. take the Al Lisali turn off. At the top of the exit turn left, then left to go over the Al Ain Rd. then go straight. You can't miss it. It's like a tented village. edited by summer breeze on 10/10/2012

Last season they did not race on weekends. but they do have training sessions on weekend. I went there for a training session and was told that I could drive my car around following the training vehicles. No one minds you going then to watch. If I remember correctly the morning sessions are until around 8.30am. Afternoons are from around 3pm til 5ish

The new season starts at Al Lisal on the 16th. IT is easy to find. Go down the Al Ain Road towards the 7s ground. Turn off at the Al Lisali turn off. At the top turn right. Then take the next right. Carry on down the road until you see the grandstand in front of you. Last season I regularly went on my own. Never had any issues, in fact people were talking to me to practice their English. I even got taken behind the scenes! Eta Not sure but I think it is a morning meet, so around 6.30am start. Give them a call on 04 8326526 edited by summer breeze on 10/10/2012

I love that fact she's complaining that she's not had an apology. Shouldn't she be the one that is sorry that her 'precious' little pumpkin got on the plane? Should she not be investigated by social services for neglect as she did know her own kid had gone? I'm sorry but people like this are scummy and are looking to make money from it. No doubt a newspaper (or rag) will give her some money for an exclusive interview telling the world that she has been done wrong blah blah blah...

simoralou - that's great news, if you just try one of the girls you may just fall in love!!!! And I'm going to see the Jack Russell at the weekend xx Jack Russel's by nature are yappy, snappy little things..... My nan had a JR. He was so sweet, well natured and gentle. I was only young, but we were inseperable. However, the dog did not like my siblings. Just goes to show that JRs are dogs of impeccable taste.

why oh why? Can someone just not WANT a specific pet? just like all else in life? It's not a problem wanting a specific type of pet, it's where it's sourced from that's a problem. Unless you get your dog from a reputable breeder who you visit or more than one occasion then you cannot honestly say that the dogs are well looked after. I know people in pets stores will swear on their granny's life that they don't get puppies from mills, but if they say yes our dogs come from eastern European puppy farm they would not last long...... assuming potential customers have a caring about animal welfare. Same goes for Europuppy...... If you want a specific breed then find a reputable breeder that you have to visit, but check in the local dog pounds first. You may get lucky.....and so might a rescue dog.

Does it also include how to get into your favourite jeans after the AA chocolate diet? When shopping for jeans buy 2 pairs, 1 in your regular size and 1 which are 2 sizes bigger. Give bigger pair to maid or dh to hide. When you have eaten too much chocolate casually drop it into conversation with maid/dh. They then swap the regular pair for the larger pair and voila you still fit into your jeans! Edited due a condition called iPad finger-stops me hitting the correct keys!! edited by summer breeze on 30/09/2012

Are you suggesting that this man has to take responsibility for his own offspring? How rude! What else are teachers there for if not to bring up the children of those that can't be bothered? Why did the pupils have to supply their own vodka? I'm sure his benefits are stretched far enough - in fact he should be given extra to stop his daughter having to accept drinks from other. Obviously personal responsibility is an oxymoron to this cretin. Jeremy Kyle has a few more contenders for his show (assuming he's still on). If I did this at school I very much doubt I'd be able to sit down now - and I left over 20 years ago......

Not really other than not to try to go to UK, USA, Australia or anywhere else that there are large numbers of expats from as flights wil be busy. Also it would depend on who was kicking off and against who. Maybe drive to Oman or head to Turkey... Can't decide until the time comes, if indeed if ever will. Really needs to be a drive as the fur babies will not be getting left behind......
