Sorry Annedxb, but you did post on a public forum and I couldn't help replying with this "When I was about twenty years old, I met an old pastor's wife who told me that when she was young and had her first child, she didn't believe in striking children, although spanking kids with a switch pulled from a tree was standard punishment at the time. "But one day when her son was four or five, he did something that she felt warranted a spanking--the first in his life. And she told him he w...ould have to go outside and find a switch for her to hit him with. The boy was gone a long time. And when he came back in, he was crying. "He said to her, 'Mama, I couldn't find a switch, but here's a rock you can throw at me.' All of the sudden a mother understood how the situation felt from the child's point of view: that if my mother wants to hurt me, it makes no difference what she does it with; she might as well do it with a stone. "The mother took the boy onto her lap and they both cried. Then she laid the rock on a shelf in the kitchen to remind herself forever: never violence. Because violence begins in the nursery--one can raise children into violence." ~From a peace prize acceptance speech given by Astrid Lindgren, author of Pippi Longstocking

Hiccup, I have read a bit of this thread and its good to see that you have recognised that you need help. From an outside perspective, from someone who has been in a similair situation for years and even recently I can tell you beyond doubt help is required. Again, from a complete non-believer in medication, trying supplements, alternate therapies, I have converted to believing medication has its place. I too completely believed I would never in actuality try end my life. Once the thought comes in hiccup its only a while, before one starts 'fantasising' about how to go about it and when there's a trigger there can be an instant where one looses control and that moment can change it all. Medication actually works and those 100's and 1000's of side effects that you read about are possibilities but often very small possibilities. Even Panadol has possibilities. Having said all that I strongly recommend you an alternate therapy while you get working on seeing a doctor. EFT has at an earlier point again been a life saver and I literally went from Med- Severe depression to happy getting on with life person at the end of a long session. I didn't try it again when I hit the absolute rock bottom a few months ago, given tragic personal circumstances. I wish I did try it again, but I didn't and got on to medication as I was in far too dangerous and severe condition. I had seen Zarine for EFT, but I believe Beryl Comar is very good too. Please just go for one session for your kids sake, it might just be the turnaround point for you to then find the strenght to do what else is required. Beryl operates with Change Associates. edited by summerdream on 04/12/2014

Bareface are good. Ignore the other comments - this is not for a paegent. My DD loves modeling and we have fun. There are some parents though that have shocked me. The last shoot DD did had another child who was simply not interested in the whole thing and a pushy mother who did horrible things like let her child get detention at school so she can keep his cute looking hairstyle and he remain in 'demand'. Even the child wanted to have his hair cut :( Anyway, so as long as baby is enjoying it its okay. Let me tell you its not easy though (I get completely bored at times, watching DD repeat the same thing over and over till they get the right shot) and there's very little requirement for babies per se. Usually for 5+ years. PS - DD is quite hairy and no I don't have her waxed or her eyebrows done. They are usually looking for real children and the industry here I have found is quite good. Shoots that include children are very often on weekends of during school holidays. There's food and comfortable rest areas at most shoots. edited by summerdream on 13/03/2012

Thanks for your replies to the question. [b'>Opinions[/b'> were not necessary thanks! Just ignore them and welcome to EW - some of us want you to have to give little personal details and justify every question you ask on here! Families do leave the country for a holiday with DH alone, so in that sense its okay. But if you are all cancelling your visas straight away, the question may come up at renewal of your maid visa. Its a hit and miss from what I know. Legally its not allowed though, if family is not on residence visa.

STAY AWAY from Dr Marc Mueller! My husband went in with one-sided hearing loss. Dr. Mueller told him that he was getting old and he should expect that. My husband and I trusted him because he was highly recommended. He waited a year and kept losing more of his hearing and told his GP who sent him to a different ENT doctor who found that he has a brain tumor! He told us this kind of tumor causes one-sided hearing loss and every ENT doc should know about it and perform an MRI for it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN!!!!! Dr Mueller did the adenoids surgery for my LO as she had 100% blockage and was only breathing through her mouth since birth. That went well and I was happy he suspected the issue and treated her, she soon caught up on speech etc. Having said that he simply didn't understand my own condition with my allergy. He said there's not thing such as tonils getting inflamed due to intake of cold drinks. It been happening for 15 years so I know! My other DD developed flaky skin etc on her ear that seemed to go inside. He put her on 3 or 4 courses of antibiotics and it didn't help one bit...he went on to tell me he though it was a superbug infection or something like that. I did ask him, if it could possibly 'just' be eczema and he completely ruled that out. After spending several 1000 dirhams, I went to see another ENT, who said eczema was a good possibility..and in the end turns out it was 'only' eczema. Poor DD sufferred for so long and all those antibiotic courses :( The issue with Mueller is he thinks very highly of himself ( I feel) and will simply not listen to the patient.

OP, NZ is a far way away and its easy to say 'wasted half my maternity leave' when all went well. You were being cautious and its easy with the second baby for us to feel super confident. Been there done that. My two cents would be don't travel beyond 33-34 weeks.

Good wishes Pink Bunny. The people who have put all those negative comments on the link are to be forgiven for they 'know not what they are doing'. I used to think that way, but would not jump to judge that easily...our sad society can go to different extremes.. I didn't even think I could actually have ADHD and doubted if its a real condition even - even though life was such a struggle everyday, remember I didn't know any different. Thank goodness for the internet that gave me some direction and sought help to realise my ADHD is so severe the doctor has not seen a patient rate that bad. Good on you Pinkbunny for ruling out or diagnosing any underlying conditions. The person who wrote on the link about an overwhelming majority of prisoners having mental illness is spot on. These conditions such as ADD, ODD are not just a distracted child or a naughty child. Its a whole pattern of behaviour, reactions, etc that the patient himself is unable to control. They are VERY VERY extreme versions of distracted or naughty caused by 'wrong' wiring of the brain.

I'm sorry to hear about your cousins and their accident. To answer your questions to the best of my ability, I cannot for one moment believe that the visit visa covers insurance, it may (and I really have no idea) cover emergency treatment at a government hospital. Best to call one and ask. Regarding the accident why did you not report it to the police as soon as they told you? I think that is the way forward. I believe visit visas these days do have a compulsory insurance taken....but don't know if its the same for visit visa granted on arrival.

Pre-existing, Infertility are usually only covered on group policies for corporates. If it is offered as an individual that kind of cover can cost 10s of 1000s of dollars. Check with the insurance your husband's company or yours has and if you can be added on.

Sorry to be a spoil sport - but think about it what does the Insurance company gain to take up a pre-existing cause. The only way you could have this covered is if it came part of a group package. I have Allianz and it does cover infertility to a limit - but they don't do individual policies with this option, esp with pre-existing. Consider going to a country where treament is cheaper - India?

Thanks, wendyone. Looks like she's stuck between a rock and a hard place then! Perhaps best take it ...there's no guarantees she'll find another job. If she does, hopefully she can negotiate returning it prorata...so say she worked 6 months she could agree for them to return half. Better still, employees should probably try get this agreed in advance.

ADHD/ADD that is treated with supplements etc was never ADHD/ADD in the first place. I have had a more stressful childhood - but given I have clear recollection of when I was as young as 2 years old, I can tell you my brain is wired differently. There is a lot of wrong diagnosis, self-diagnosis out there - but ADHD/ADD is a real condition and yes medicines can only help so much with this condition. Just as Fjcruiser says the article doesn't say much new.

Most employers just get a government health card. That should cover all her medical needs that should arise. It costs dhs350 as I recall... Appletiser is correct. The co-pay is only 20-25dhs. Of course your maid must be legally sponsored but it is a great deal. If not then perhaps a "travel" policy? I posted seperate Have you actually used this? The co-pay at any govt hospital has been at least AED100 or AED250 for a specialist. Medicines are not included. Any surgery is chargeable.

I have been around such people and if they don't make a choice themselves you will never be able to help. Been there, done that. All excuses with excercise, diet etc Does he drink a lot of alcohol too? Doctor had advised that alcohol is worse than smoking with high bp. Smoking - iqs Dubai will really help if he wants to quit. Beetroot juice is great for reducing blood pressure, so are bananas...but I can hear his excuses already! He used to drink alcohol but has stopped since over 2 years now. Tell me more about this facility that helps to quit smoking, please. Google IQS smoking Dubai...you'll find their contacts - here's the mobile of the lady I spoke to 0507173002. They have a facebook page too. Its highly effective way of quitting from what I know the best way and the new franchisees are quite reasonably priced - earlier the price was 6k+, now its only 2k or so.. BUT your friend must want to give up smoking...

Tell that maid of yours that even in office when execs travel they are usually to take the cheaper ticket, more so in recession times. As sisterly as I have been to the househelps, I have always told them before I took them on that they would travel on the airline that had a more reasonable fare and dates had to be slightly flexible so we avoid very peak fares. The same applies to my own travel - so why not theirs!!!! OP would you not consider travelling another airline if it saved 1000's of dirhams....? does she think she deserves more privilleges than you give to yourself?!?!

If she is sweet and you say you like her, would it really be so terrible to get her an extra ticket should she indeed plan to leave permanently when her contract is up? If you are happy with your maid generally, she is a rarity, so I partly agree with oopsiedaisy. You know the situation better, so alternatively what I would do is agree with her that if she does end up leaving in December eventually, she would have to pay for that one way ticket.

Don't mother the person, he's an adult. I can sense you are a loving, helping person. Just as we can't or don't want to change, wanting to change someone is very often futile. If the person has asked you for help, then I would recommend he goes into anger management therapy. Research on accupressure too and he could do that at home, I have found it helpful. Anxiety, anger issues have deep roots and seeing a doctor - preferably a psychiatrist is a good starting point.

There is an utter fixation on weight gain for both Mother & baby during pregnancy here?! As you say it's very difficult to accurately estimate the size of a baby in utero & on this basis your Doctor may be unnecessarily recommending a c-section. Many women give birth to large babies in any event. If you are really determined to have a VBAC then you must change Doctor. Personally I would not be considering one unless my labour was allowed to commence naturally. Good luck. X Baby weight gain is an issue with gestational diabetes, its not normal rate of gain. OP has other issues related to the pregnancy and there's a reason she's been suggested what she has. OP - Please let us non-medical people not bias you, especially if it is away from the doctor's advice.

Not a doctor but read tonnes of literature on the stuff and seems doctor has considered your situation well and its good judgement. If you feel unsure, then do get a second opinion, you don't have to change doctors, just get a 2nd opinion, good chances it will be the same and then you can feel assured. With gestational diabetes babies are usually bigger and given all other factors mentioned it does seem she's suggested the right course. PS - Hope baby makes an appearance sooner so you have a better chance at VBAC. You surely don't want to be delivering a 4++kilo baby VBAC and the risk of it in the end having to be a C section anyway. Congratulations in advance to the new addition X edited by summerdream on 09/02/2012

I will be giving it to both my DDs when they reach the right age which is about 11. Am convinced its right. I took it at the grand old age of 33 - was only with DH ever before and once we divorced...seemed like the right thing to do. Doc agreed.
