....very many of the women believe it makes the baby's eyes bigger (prettier). Its a whole load of tosh and the carbon particles could damage babies eyes. Even though some doctors have taken the courage to try tell parents, old habits die hard. It was a battle to not allow it on my DD's.

Laura just nitpicking here - but are you sure the fall a few months ago hasn't caused memory issues? You said later in your post you didn't fall since the age of 12 ;) Unless insurance defines being thrown off and falling :-) I have so much work at work - I should just get off EW and stop bothering posters!! :-)

I believe they are government hospital doctors who can prescribe Adderall - never found out which. Not easy to get the prescription even from these two docs. I take and Thursday off and go over the weeked to India. Straterra - Side effects: Terrible Naseau, but if taken with a big breakfast its minimal. I realise how helpful it is all the more now that I have been off for about 8 days - waiting for a cousin to get the meds from India next week. As you may notice I am struggling to be coherent in this post - my minds all over the place. With Straterra I am more focussed, its easier to do tasks that are less interesting (almost everything is boring for me). Its most effective when taken very early in the morning. I have struggled with driving in recent years and was very close to making a decision to not drive. However Straterra changed that and I don't forget that I am driving. My memory is also better on it. I don't get lost for words (often never)as often when I am on the med. Personally quite happy. I still am unable to read a book, article that is even in the slightest less interesting for me.

I thought adderall could be prescribed by only two doctors in the UAE...I could be wrong. I got a few recommendations and went around to see a few psychiatrists but nothing really felt right for me. The doc in Mumbai, India sees so many hundreds of patients maybe its that experience but his medicines were the most effective. Given how cheap he is, I pay AED200 and that is sort of a donation, most patients are seen free or pay equivalent of AED10-20 its worth for me to fly every 3 months, see him and get restock medicines

Finally diagnosed as and adult - more ADD as opposed to ADHD now...guess the depression cut the hyperactivity! I get my meds from India I am on Atomoxetine hydrochloride (Straterra) and I think its been quite useful. I have been asked to take a certain antidepressant and Depakene in combination - which I will restart when I take time off work. The side effects (hopefully initially) were not easy. The generic medicines in India are very cheap and I pay about 10% or even lesser than what I would pay here. summerdream 76 at gmail dot k om if anyone wants to chat

Cheap and nice - Boots shampoo + conditioner (for dry/coloured hair I think) actually makes my very dry and brittle hair manageable and soft. Other one I use is Organic care range as is contains no sls, no petroleum products etc. Again quite cheap.

OP - when I was in real estate, it was one of my fears too. However, there were no incidents, regardles how practical in may seem (believe me once you are into it - the sizzling heat, your car is cooked and you just need to go around the block it might see more comfortable when someone offers to use their car to look at the next villa/apartment) don't accept that. When you are with the rare person/s that you don't feel too right about, make sure you call someone - friend/husband etc and in 'conversation' mention apartmetn number and that you'll call them back in 10 minutes as soon as the 'showing' is done. Few women in India keep a pack of red chilli powder in their bags, to be thrown into an attackers eyes. Hmmm...thinking of which how about we made a solution of the chilli powder/tabasco sauce/Pepper and water into a water sprayer...it could be something you keep to spice up your meals!!!

If its a Western company skirt is no issue either - but conservative is key, don't do dowdy though. Open shoes are out of question even if it hits 58 degrees C outside. Closed shoes only for sure. I personally prefer to keep some 'style' element to distinguish myself from the rest of the candidates in dark suits. I have worked in HR in the past and I know seeing one candidate after in similair looking clothes can sometimes cloud one's mind, especially for quick screening interviews. I know, I know its one's skills that's supposed to get us the jobs - but we accept fact and look at studies many of us know that first impressions count a big deal.

Don't hold me by my neck if something goes wrong, but having been here forever I do tend to stretch the rules. I know of people and I myself have got meds like Zoloft, Prozac, Effexor (3 months supply) without any issues for years now (that makes me and my friends sound ummm...). I carry a prescrip, but never been asked. Its the drugs that contain narcotics that you really don't want to get without the below mentioned docs. The others go through customs every day. Please don't ask me what happens if luck runs out. Just giving you the real life scenario. Zyrtec is not issues, can be bought here off the counter even.

Depending on the area you choose to live, the package should be manageable. I am a single mum with just the salary portion of your package - no accom, no car, no school allowances. I drive a decent car, got a large 3-br, kids in premium schools, shop till I drop sometimes, some dining outside, lots of kids entertainment, Maid, get my nails done every two weeks! and yes I have a holiday with the kids every year and I buy the tickets and all expenses myself. Yes, there's no savings, but its all possible. Packages are not as they used to be before and the package is not that bad. Of course its all relative and you need to keep in mind your goals. Good luck.

I believe a labour case for unfair dismissal won't get too far, going by other EWers experience. Please talk/write to them about keeping your med insurance till you deliver and pay for it yourself if you have to. Yes you loose maternity leave, but what do you mean by loosing 3 months salary? If they are holding back your dues then you should file a labour case.

Small frequent meals, do as much of the house work yourself, keep yourself hydrated (thirst can feel like hunger), eat whatever you want but limit quantities, don't completely cut out carbs not a long term solution, if you don't work and have time on hands involve your self in volunteer work and this is the most important Think Thin. Thinking thin works for me and few other's I know. Read up and find out how its best done - it comes naturally to me, so I won't do a good job of explaining. Take action sooner, as soon as you know you are starting to pile on, the clothes start feeling snug, make it a goal to fit back in rather than banishing the clothes to the back of the wardrobe.

Agree with those that American Hospital is not for genuine emergencies - hence the post. We had "known" OH was not actually having a heart attack but could not get an appointment for his recurrent chest pains hence went to American to have all relevant tests done, as Rashid would probably be too busy. Usually take the kids to City and they are quiet good generally but as someone here said 3 out of 4 times. Younger DD has had some serious life threatening problems with her Asthma/lungs and they looked after her very well. However, I had two bad incidents. I was seriously misdignosed and could have died as a result. My guess diagnosis was right and the doc wouldn't hear of it. He said they would call be back for an appointment. When I got the call 4-5 days later, I was at Al Wasl, having had lifesaving surgery and all a couple of hours after the doc at City gave me the all clear. Also another time again at City DD was to be treated wrongly and at least 4 wrong advices/treatment recommended in ER. I really don't like playing doc, but I am so glad I stuck to what I believed in that instance too. All admissions at City/Welcare/American for 'normal' stuff have been very good though.

Was there last night for 7 hours with OH. Doctor was great, but lord was he stretched. They now only have ONE doc in Emergency. The doc tried to keep his smile and kept going. I won't blame him for taking two hours to be able to read OH's report - several cases were emergencies. I don't think its humanly possible to have 7 patients being managed by one doctor. Most emergencies, incl OH who was being checked for possibly having a heart attack. If one more patient stepped in there requiring complete attention the place would have fallen apart. I am a super understanding person I believe and would have 'understood' if this was a one off. Was shocked to learn that this is the norm and the last night was one of the much better nights. Asked a few staff how they could only have one doctor and was told they are management decisions. I said to one of them it didn't make sense, unless it was completely based on cost cutting and she thought that was an excellent guess. I won't say more because I don't want to put people's jobs at risk, but even though each one was doing the best they could, clearly morale was low and I know at least one nurse (?) could have snapped any moment. I won't go into details how OH and I could easily be done in 3 hours as opposed to the 7 hours we spent there. Left my opinion in their suggestions box.

Here's my story, make some purchases at Women's Secret (used to buy them a lot). While paying at the counter, the lady asks "are these for you?" with a surprised look, jaw dropping to floor, eyes popping out! My reply "....errr, yes Why?". Still with the surprised/shocked look, while staring at my chest she says, "Oh no, you can't be a C cup". My polite reply, "Thanks I know my size, been measured at least thrice incl at your store" She still gaping in surprise, almost laughing, saying, "NO, it can't be try a cup B or maybe an A"..... ... I asked her if she would please take my payment which she did and as I left she repeated, you just can't be a cup C!!!!! I just realised that since this incident about 2 years ago, I never bought another Women's secret bra again. Calvin Klein's are PERFECT. edited by summerdream on 20/06/2011

Guess, I am not in my right mind then! I would do the same :( Its my instinctive response to pick up something I see someone leave behind and run after them. I can't remember how many times that's happened, whether its a baby's shoe or someone's phone once even a couple of rings that looked like diamonds and gemstones in a mall washroom, that a lady had just left. I think I would forget that this could be a security issue - believe in human good. I don't know the details of this case and I sure hope they have a reason for convicting her. Will try and point people out to items left behind in future.....

Get her to Dubai on a visit visa and then apply for maid visa. Its the workaround, everybody I know has done. The Indian embassy thing is not a UAE requirement. You have to make sure she is able to convince the immigration in India that she's got family here who she's going to visit only. If they suspect she's going for a maids job they may not let her through. I know this is not the complete honest way, but the Indian embassy requirement is absolutely tedious and unfair. Gettng an Indian maid's paper work done the first time can easily have us short of AED20,000, given all deposits we have to make. So I would use the other route too.

I have the double package (forced) internet + phone. It doesn't work either. Its a nightmare really, paying for something that simply doesn't work. The Etisalat guys have been at our home several times now and nothing. Sometimes our phones stop working too. I don't believe in yelling at the poor front end staff as its absolutely no fault of theirs, I have pent up anger at the moment! Can I sue them if I do something stupid?!?!?

All good ideas here just my additional two cents. Make sure you stepback and look at what's happening though. If its a new phone every few months, another gadget or two thrown in between and DH earns okay, maybe you should let it go. Sometimes we don't understand what these gadgets mean to men. Is it the fact that he questions your purchases that makes his purchasing worse? In the scheme of things is it worth to let it dent your marriage. If its only gadget shopping that's an issue then remember there's far worse happening and some DHs spending equivalent in one night at a bar. Definitely try keeping seperate accounts but not as the end result of a shouting match, perhaps as a result of a discussion that this may help your relationship. Chin up things will get better.

Happened to me and I never got fined. Has happenned at least 3 times to me. I had checked with someone I know who works at the police and he advised that they know what they are doing (!). Apparently they can tell from the pictures and those fines never come. If they do, I believe you can contest it and when they look at the picture, they can know apparently! Excuse that I explain this so vaguely, but just don't worry about it.

Monsoon has one of the most flexible return exchange policy in the country. They have given me full refunds which is uncommon in Dubai. This is Dubai and OP got an exchange without a receipt which in itself is bending backwards for the store. With shoes/clothes really, its subjective how long something is supposed to last. OP said her daughter had worn it 5 times, are the store supposed to take warranty for items?? Really unless it happened the first time, OP has no case. These are shoes worn a few times by a child. I expect that anything I purchase from a reputable store and Monsoon is by no means a cheap place to shop to last longer than 5 wears regardless of who is wearing it. JMO If you were the store owner, wouldn't you at least have expected a receipt to prove date of purchase? Yes there is customer service, but there are people who abuse flexibility.

I didn't say the post IS a wind-up, but some things thrown in the post such as 5 kids in the car. Getting a paper from a lawyer for parents to sign ?? The main question is genuine and I simply avoid it. Getting parents to sign a legal disclaimer each time - where does one draw the line? How about disclaimers for any possible accidents at home when the kids visit? Disclaimers for food allergies in parties...

There are so many factors to consider, such as are your periods normally on time, any idea of your ovulation date, etc etc. Really the best thing for you is to get advise on this from a medical practioner, you may end up misguided here. Just remember given where you are there is still hope. Fingers crossed and all the best. edited by summerdream on 30/05/2011

Don't worry you won't be paying fines in 1000's. I do not know the process, but this has happenned to a friend and they only paid fines below a AED1000. Just as Xmas baby says, be honest, they have such cases everyday. This is very different as opposed to a full family overstaying etc. Its an oversight and you'll be surprised to find guys at the visa section much more helpful than some of us on here. I can pretty much bet, even they won't give a 'how could you forget?' answer or look.

Just to add, keeping your insurance up to date is always the most important thing. Having an expired registration does [b'>not[/b'> affect your insurance. However, you can be pulled for expired registration and the standard penalty is a fine of about 600-800 dhs and having the vehicle impounded for 7 days. After that you have a further 7 days to get it registered or you face a bigger fine. This has just happened to some friends of ours. Their registration had been expired for 6 months. They said the policeman who pulled them pulled about 6 other cars for the same reason (including the likes of Porsche Cayennes and Mercs) and made them all drive in convoy to the Bur Dubai traffic department! The guys in the convoy should have expected that! The grace period is one month, not six months. The fine you mention is the fine for driving the car with an expired registration + at renewal there is a fine of AED10 per day over the grace period.

That's correct BB, earlier on there were quite a few people not covered by insurance in the grace period. Hence was introduced the rule of 13 months insuranace. The grace period is still applicable, the insurance keeps you covered, if you decide to wait out till towards the end of the grace period. edited by summerdream on 26/05/2011
