They sell them in a shop in Ibn Battuta Mall in the store called Bayti which is in Egypt Court (I am pretty sure this is the store). They have about 5 or 6 fragrances to choose from and other brands that I have not tried. But, yes they have the good stuff! Happy sniffing! I see SunDevil was typing same time as me :) Beat ya by 2 seconds. LOL

Both Arabian Ranches and Green Community have nice pet stores in their community centers and both carry collars and leashes.

They have them at Bayti in the Egypt court at Ibn Battuta. I bought some last month and also the oil with the wooden sticks that come out of the top. (forget the name) Go in the door across from Just Optic and you'll see the cashier stand, go straight back behind the cash wrap and they are on the back wall.

I have lots of great apps on my phone but unfortunately a lot of them don't work here in UAE, only in the states. I wish I had more good apps that apply to UAE. But I have some that work here that I love: Instagram Flashlight Photonote (this is great for UAE b/c you can take a photo of something and then make a note about it and search your notes later. EX: you find a certain brand of food you like but saw it at a store and now can't remember which store it was at. If you take a picture of it when you see it, you can bring it up later when you need it) Whitenoise Convert It Hangman Skeeball For my 4 year old DS: Create a Car (he loves this) Teach Me (Kinder) Doodle Buddy Starfall ABC's Monkey Preschool Lunchbox Gobble Gator (think Hungry Hungry Hippos) Jirbo Match (memory game) Itsy Bitsy Spider Wheels on the Bus Toddler Teasers ABC Toddler Teasers Shapes Preschool Adventure iplay 'n Learn PreK Safari

If you have a live-in maid with a husband in UAE, do you allow the husband to visit them in their room or at your house? Or do you require that he not come to the house but that they meet somewhere else? How do you handle it?

I posted a couple weeks ago about braces for DH. He went to the American clinic in Jumeirah and they quoted him at 27,000 dhs. Told him he had all sorts of problems, bite completely off, excessive wearing, etc. I could not believe the price they told him and I came here to EW asking for help. I called the clinic to confirm the price and they said it was indeed the price and they believe "you get what you pay for" and said their dentist was American certified which is the hardest to get and went on to tell me that they have a robot that straightens the wire rather than the dentist and it's the only technology of it's kind in the ME. We went to Nicholas and Asp on Saturday b/c so many people here recommended them and he met with Dr. Anton who is a professor of orthodontics and is American Orthodontics board certified. He said DH has "textbook perfect" bite and does not have excessive wear considering he is 42 years old. He said his back teeth are a bit worn but if they aren't causing him problems with sensitivity he said not to do anything about it and just get the braces he wants for the cosmetic changes. Quoted us as 7500 dhs for top and bottom braces and said it would take 18 months for treatment. DH should be getting the phone call today to let us know when he gets his xrays and impressions and he is excited to get his braces started.

Another vote for the Ranches. We are in Mirador and love it here. We moved up from AD and DH still does the commute but it's worth it b/c of the quality of life in AR. It's really easy to get in and out of here and just tonight buzzed up to MCC for dinner with my two LO's and afterwards did a quick stop at Spinneys at Motor City. Everything is very convenient to AR.

Have her check www.abf.com They are a freight service and have done a lot of do-it-yourself moves for years. They can bring the trailer by the house and she loads her few boxes and then it continues on to CA. They do a lot of sharing of loads. It might take a little longer than Fed Ex but it will be a lot cheaper.

For those of you that went to Nic&Asp, does the price they gave you include the monthly visits to check the braces and tighten the wires?

Thanks ladies, I about flipped when DH came home last night from his consult and told me this. I told him I couldn't believe it really costs that much compared to the US and he kept telling me "this isn't the states". I'm going to call the places you have mentioned.

DH met with an ortho last night to see about getting braces put on his teeth. The cost will be 27,000 dhs and that's not for anything fancy being done to his teeth; just straight braces. Is that typical of the cost for braces here in UAE or should we go some place else? I had them as an adult in the states and they were $3800 USD and here in Dubai the price is double. They did say if we paid the entire 27,000 dhs up front we could get 5% off but that's only 1350 dhs.

Well that stinks we absolutely won't be able to use these tickets so we are out money and other people who want to go can't go. Our guest's plane is set to arrive around 5:00 pm not enough time to make the tour.

Miss Piggy, that's where I looked in all of the stores. I ended up getting pickled green chilies paste imported from India. FYI, it's not even close to diced green chilies from Old El Paso. LOL

Our house is north or Austin but we've been okay so far. Touch wood. We had a wildfire go through our neighborhood a couple years back while DH was deployed overseas. I had to load up photo albums and precious items in the car along with the cat and dog just in case we had to evacuate. The police had us on the back side of our fences that faced the field watering them down and watering down our yards. I was covered in ash and smelled of smoke but suddenly the winds shifted and the fire started heading north and we were sparred. Those grass fires can move so fast. North TX is getting hit hard with them too.

DH said he wanted to have a drink at the world's tallest bar. LOL Can you get there from the observation deck?

Thanks ladies. I've never had my nails looked after and with two young boys and housework to keep up after I have the ugliest nails and decided to splurge and get the Bio Gel nails and I love the look. My hands actually look nice instead of looking like I've been doing construction work for 20 years. When I get regular manicures, the polish is chipped off within a couple days but the Bio Gel has stayed so pretty for almost two weeks now, not one chip. I guess I'll just have to get them every other time or so to give my nails a break. I'm going to try Nail Spa, the back massage during the manicure sounds divine!

I don't really know anything about the houses in your price range. We are in Mirador in a 5 bedroom so I've never looked in your price range. But there are townhomes in AR called Al Reem and Alma and you might find something in those areas. There isn't a bad section of AR, it's all nice so you really can't go wrong getting into the townhomes in your price range.

I can't help you with places in your budget but I can say we moved from AD to AR's in February (Mirador) and the first night we said we should have done it years ago. In AD we lived on the Corniche and it was always noisy with traffic and construction noise. We would run three fans and the a/c just to drown out the noise. Now that we are in AR it is soooo quiet we almost can't sleep. LOL It truly is peaceful and when you leave work and come home you can actually relax. DH still does the commute to AD (Mussafah area) and does it in about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I called Diamond Tours today and spoke with someone and told them we had 3 adults and 2 children. I said I wanted our 2 year old in his car seat and agreed to pay the 150 dhs for him b/c of the seat, otherwise they said he would be free. They said they would pick us up first and also go pick up 2 other adults. I got to thinking about it this afternoon trying to figure out how 5 adults, 2 children (which I am paying 150 dhs each for a seat) and a driver were going to fit. I called Diamond Tours back and tried to ask about it but the person's accent was so hard to understand I couldn't figure out what they were saying but got out that they wanted me to rent a private car since they were loosing the other 2 adults. How are they loosing 2 other adults when it seats 7 and now that's 8 people total?? Is there anyone I can talk to that I can actually understand?? This is so frustrating to try to book this and I can't understand the people.

The plant souk is awesome! I'm sick over what I paid for one plant at ACE and then went to the plant souk the next day and over triple the amount of plants, flowers, and pots for only a small amount more than what I paid for one house plant at ACE. We always go out the Hatta/Oman road past Dragon Mart on the right, go to the first round about (you don't actually have to enter the round about b/c there is a right turn lane just before it) go right at the round about, go left at the next round about. There will be a big nursery that is completely deserted and at first we thought that was the souk and that they had closed, but keep driving and you'll see them on your left. There are tons in there so don't be afraid to drive into them and explore. Last week I bought 5 geraniums, 4 petunias, and 6 ground cover plants and paid 15 dhs for all of it. Quizzme, there are plants that the flies hate?? Do tell more. We just had our garden finished (we did rolled grass as we didn't want to wait for plugs to grow) and the boys have their playset outside but the flies are terrible and I can't stand being out there.

Thank you for the insight Sam. Both of our boys are major thrill seekers. The four year old can't be bothered with the little kiddie roller coasters at the mall, he wants the adult size rides. Two year old is the one going down the slide head first, on his back, or trying to jump off the top.
