I know it's 24 hours but I didn't know what time it started. Just wanted to know how many more hours of this torture I have to endure.

How does one get a govt health card? Hi SunDevil. I have bumped up a thread for you about the procedure but it is in the "Pregnancy, Babies, and Toddlers" forum. Could you please go there and see the thread as we have discussed it in detail on that forum? Thank you! Thank you! I had no idea it was even possible.

Green Crescent NAS are terrible!! I had to have a toenail removed and they paid for the consult with Dubai Podiatry where I was told I need to have the toenail removed but then wouldn't pay for the 4500 dhs procedure to remove the toenail and the reason given was that podiatry was "alternative" medicine and therefore not covered. DH sent them the paperwork showing them licensed here in UAE as a regular doctor but after 5 months of fighting with them, they still denied the repayment and we gave up. Now we are with Daman but it's all prepay with reimbursement after submitting all the paperwork. I'm not looking forward to that and having to track everything to make sure we are getting our money back. And while I'm ranting, why don't the insurance companies cover immunizations for children? With three children five and under in our house including a 6 month old baby, immunizations are getting really expensive.

Austin is a fantastic city. You'll want to stay on the southwest or northwest part of town. The http://www.greatschools.net is an outstanding website to see the school rankings of all the states in the US.

Last week when my sister was visiting we were at Le Marche and there were three boys around 12 years old in the parking lot on scooters hanging onto the bumper of the delivery truck that was trying to pull away. The driver asked them to stop but one boy in particular kept hanging on and would not let go when he was driving away.

Looks like I'm going to go that route FLGirl. I stopped by PaperLane today and they are asking 1,891 dhs for the silhouette and it's not even in stock. So shipping it via SnS from the states will be much cheaper.

Private schools are definitely NOT the norm in the US. Most children attend public schools and many states and cities have excellent public schools. But there are also magnet schools and charter schools besides the public and private schools. You also need to remember that a state like Texas is HUGE. It is close to 700,000 sq kilometers where UAE is only 83,000 so there is a drastic difference in topography, people, cities, etc. Texas is great state and one of the perks about living in TX is you don't pay any state income tax.

I think the Silhouette is more in line with what I'm looking for. I don't want to be bothered with all the cartridges of the Cricut. I've been to that teacher shop and they have a nice selection of papers. I'm looking to do stuff with vinyl lettering and other crafts besides scrap booking. Have you seen http://www.save-on-crafts.com/ I found them on Pinterest and find their prices to be pretty good.

Yes I saw that notice is over a year old. Are there other products here? I don't want to keep putting the numbing agent in her mouth and don't want to keep giving her Tylenol. There has to be something else in this country.

DD is starting to teeth now and she is miserable. All I can find is the numbing agent to put on her gums and I don't want to keep doing that to her. Can I get the homeopathic teething tablets here? Thank you!

I don't know about them being removed. We have several in our yard in AR's and they shade our children's play area so nicely I'd hate to see them go but we are on a corner lot and I don't think they are messing with anyone's plumbing. Two days ago we went to the plant souq and bought some Jasmine trees. The shop owner mentioned that Damas trees are now being outlawed and the city is no longer planting them and developers are not to be planting them anymore b/c of how their root system tears up plumbing. He said they are now switching to the Jasmine tree b/c it's fast growing and the roots stay compact. We bought 3 trees and the man said they will double in size by next year (not height but in width) plus they have a heavenly smelling flower in the spring and fall.

We are in Mirador and really love our house. There is a nice four bedroom for sale across from us. The nice thing about AR's is each neighborhood is nice and each one fits for different families so it's hard to say that one is better than the other. I can say that in our part of Mirador only one of my neighbors ever shows their face and we get together with them all the time. Otherwise, we NEVER see any other neighbors and there aren't any young children in our area for our children to play with.

We are in the Ranches and we go the way in front of Dubai Mall. Go past Dubai mall on your left and go south on SZR towards Abu Dhabi but stay in the far right lane. You will pass Safestway on your right hand side and right as you go under the Metro bridge that goes over SZR there is an exit. Turn right and loop back at that exit and you'll drive back up to Safestway. You can either park underneath in the basement or go left at the building and drive to the main parking lot on the backside. They are remodeling the building so it no longer says Safestway outside but it's still really easy to find.

I don't know the prices but $4000 sounds about right. If you want to save money you could fly to Atlanta and drive to Savannah on the bus or a car. It's only a three hour drive.

You can't get directly to Savannah from here but Delta flies to Atlanta then you can catch a puddle jumper to Savannah on Delta and it's a very quick flight. We used to live in Savannah, have fun!

At 18 months the child can use it to climb out of the crib and get hurt falling out. The bumper was necessary years ago when crib slats were so far apart and children could get their heads out but nowadays the slates at very close together and that won't happen.

Houston is huge so what part are you staying in? If you do the zoo, which I highly recommend if you have LO's, they have a really nice train that runs around the park that is very inexpensive and the children always love to ride it.

We have made 6 trips to Moscow Russia and we used Go To Russia for all of our visas. They are fast and you don't need hotel accommodations when you use them. Depending on the type of visa your friend gets you may not have to send your passport away when you apply for the visa. DH was able to get a business visa even though we weren't there on "business" and he got his visa approval cabled to the Russian consulate in AD and he went there and had his visa processed at that location.

If you insist on using a bumper, buy one of the mesh bumpers so if his little face turns against it, he can still breathe. Our doctor in the US and our doctor here in UAE both discouraged the use of a bumper. I already knew I didn't want one so their lecture didn't last long.

We cannot get below 4000 dhs for some reason. We can now turn the a/c off downstairs all day and night and only use the a/c upstairs when we sleep. We water our grass 8 minutes in the morning and afternoon. We don't use water to rinse off our driveway or porches, rather it's swept with a broom but we still can't get below 4000 dhs. I think DEWA seems to feel that number suits us and continues to bill us that each month. They just keeping hitting the "refresh" button on our bill.

We are celebrating tomorrow as well. The turkeys are prepped, a dessert has been made and my Cuisinart and Kitchenaid mixer are set out on the counter ready to start working tomorrow bright and early. I'm going to miss Black Friday terribly but I'm hopeful the DSF will help ease my pain in January.

I'm too new here to help you, but I'm partially laughing and partially jealous. Enjoy your dinner. :) Listen ...... apparently ....the more the merrier .... its Thanksgiving ... if your American and want to come ! ( 4 are British 2 are yanks ...).... we are also watching a 'Game' ... and a parade ............ I now think that is a baseball game .. Or an American Football game.. not sure yet ! do I need to get anything else ?? its all rushing back into my consciousness ..... they already have the green bean stew thing and the corn and the pumpkin pie and the mashed potatoes ... but they have no cooker or fridge ! and they were going to be eating on the floor ....with no TV's just the PC to watch the 'game' .... We had friends coming for a BBQ already .. it just seemed unfair that they were completely new to Dubai ... and couldn't cook a turkey .. so now its a Thanksgiving dinner.. do you give gifts at Thanksgiving ? or cards ? OH Lord ! what have I got myself into .... edited by bbcb on 24/11/2011 You aren't watching Baseball at this time of year you are watching American Football, the kind where you can touch the ball and run with it. LOL And you're watching the Macy's day Parade. HUGE parade and a big deal in the states. You don't bring gifts or cards but it's tacky to show up empty handed so at the very least bring some flowers for the host. And it's probably green bean casserole that they are bringing and it's delicious, enjoy!

really?? was that on some sort of sale? I just checked on the LV US and UK sites and I don't think the price of my Palermo was marked up here (@Dubai Mall) In fact the UK price looks a tad higher :S yes, please tell me this is true... are they really 1000 chaper in the USA? i never bought one before, but i thought it was the same? LV's are the same price here as in the states. I have two and both were purchased here (one in Abu Dhabi and one in the Dubai Mall) and were the same exact price in the states but here I didn't pay the 8% sales tax so it actually cost less here.

I would guess yes it does. Last week I had the medium sized gas tank refilled (the one kept in the garage closet and used for cooking) and I had a brand new short bottle delivered for the BBQ outback and my bill was 480 dhs. My refill was only 105 dhs of that 480 so that means my short new bottle was 375 dhs. This was with Emirates Gas.

Where are the best places to buy decorations for National Day? I'd love to put up a flag at our house but then I'd feel like it goes against the allegiance for my home country, but I'm excited for National Day and want to do something to honor this country too.

A couple months ago I had a bad ant problem in the kitchen. They were those teeny tiny brown ants that seem to live through a nuclear war and nothing gets rid of them. They were getting into DD's formula and were a big pain. A short time later a gecko got into our kitchen. I knew geckos are harmless and help keep the bugs away so I let him stay in the kitchen for a week and dealt with the poop on the walls b/c my ant problem was completely gone. After he polished off the ants I took a clear plastic bowl and put it on top of him and slid a piece of paper under the upside down bowl and carried him outside to the yard. It was a win win for both of us.
