Thanks @ROSIE2121 and @monkeyface, can you tell me more about your scars? I saw a doctor but he wants to do a new scar on my belly button. I need someone to use my old belly button scar and 5-3mm instruments for the rest. I still hate the 10mm scar from my last surgery. I'm petite so I feel it's too big for my belly and it's in a very noticeable place.

Hello @twohoots April is a good month to visit, it never gets cold in Panama, there is only dry season & rainy season. You should check out the Canal at the Miraflores locks and the old part of town "el casco viejo". The islands of San Blas are pretty interesting, it's a group of little islands in the Caribbean side that are ruled by the indigenous people. Get some molas, you can turn them into cushions or frame them. Bocas del Toro, also on the caribbean side is nice. As for beach resorts, I've heard about the Westin in Playa Bonita and the Riu in Playa Blanca but I've never stayed there. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I need surgery for fibroids again :-( only 4 months after my surgery I had them back and Dr. Hafeez was not in Dubai anymore. I also remember asking him about this same situation happening and he laughed it off saying it was very unlikely. One of the big reasons I chose him was because he said he would do a UAL (I think this is the name), some clipping of arteries and that it would prevent recurring fibroids but I later found out I never had that done, my DH & I were lied to. These new set of fibroids have me sick with anemia. I am looking for a doctor that will use my old surgery scars.

Hi there! I bought mine at the Dubai Mall, I don´t remember the name of the pharmacy but it is right across the "Suite Blanco" store. The oil brand is "Repavar". Remember to keep it in the fridge after opening so it lasts longer. edited by sunset1 on 13/09/2014 edited by sunset1 on 13/09/2014

Hi Dora1, I would recommend that you read some reviews of laser treatments before ever putting a laser on your face, scary stuff... edited by sunset1 on 29/08/2014

Thank you all for your advise and for sharing your stories with me :-) I know my scar is very recent and that I will probably have to wait a year before being able to do something about it. I saw a dermatologist recently, he said I will probably need a revision in the future since my wound wasn´t stitched up properly, he says that this is why it looks sunken. I was not stitched up by a plastic surgeon even though I kept asking for one at the hospital. I am using silicon gel on my scar for now.

@la2ad sorry to reply so late but I just saw your post. Did you have surgery already? I never saw Dr. Christian because I went for my appointment with Dr. Hafeez first and decided right there to get surgery with him plus I had already seen about 5 different Doctors and that was enough.

Hello 1973me! I had this procedure done 3 months ago with Dr. Hafeez Rahman at the International Modern Hospital. You can search my post called "Laparoscopic-Myomectomy for Fibroid" for more information. Good Luck!

hi @busybee2, my incisions didn't need stitches, they stick them together with some special tape that stays in place for 2 weeks and you end up with a little line where they made the incisions. I am just a little vain and I hate scars because I already have so many but it's really just a line, the other ones are so tiny they don't bother me at all. DH says I look like I got scratched by a cat HA! I only have stitches inside, on my uterus and they dissolve with time. I am SO grateful everything was done via keyhole. So great that you recovered so fast and amazing to hear you felt great even right after surgery. I needed extra pain meds right after surgery but after those where given to me I felt very good :-). I guess everyone is different and recovery varies from one person to another but I feel great now. I started working out and everything, I am still taking it slow because I don't want to ruin anything but keyhole is the way to go! If I ever have kids I would still need to get a C-section but this happens after all myomectomy procedures. edited by sunset1 on 05/10/2013 edited by sunset1 on 05/10/2013 edited by sunset1 on 05/10/2013

@Sophie27, you are welcome, I have posted more info of my surgery on my initial post "Laparoscopic-Myomectomy for Fibroid", since it was so recent, I remember everything. I can definitely recommend him to anyone, he is very skilled with those tiny instruments. Good luck to your friend on her surgery, I would say to her don´t be scared because you will be in very good hands. edited by sunset1 on 05/10/2013 edited by sunset1 on 05/10/2013

Hello everyone! I am writing this in case someone finds it useful in the future. I had surgery with doctor Hafeez Rahman at the International Modern Hospital on September 18th. DH and I really liked the doctor after meeting him but what I liked the most was being able to see his work on YouTube. They do not honor appointment times, his practice is very busy, so you will have to wait a little before actually seeing the doctor. I think he is worth the wait, the day of my surgery he did a few more, this is something he does routinely, which is very important. It´s been a little over two weeks and I feel great, almost like nothing happened. I had my 2 week post surgery appointment and the ultrasound shows everything is healing fine. They removed my bandages and I have 4 incisions (none of which required stitches), one inside my belly button which you can´t see, two 5mm incisions at each side of my lower belly and a 10mm incision on the top of my belly near my left ribs. The 10 mm incision upsets me because it is the most noticeable and I can't hide it while wearing a bikini but I guess it´s not that bad... I don´t know if the incisions depend on the position of your fibroids, etc. After my follow up appointment I had to get some more blood tests and an urine test. I also got prescribed with hemoglobin and calcium vitamins and I need to see the doc again in 3 months time. Before surgery you have to get blood tests and they also check your heart. I had a pre-op appointment with the anesthesiologist and he assured me I was going to get something to avoid the after surgery nausea which I had no problems with. The day of my surgery I wasn´t able to eat or drink 8-10 hours before. I was very happy to learn they didn´t need to put a urine catheter. I woke up from surgery feeling a lot of pain, similar to having strong cramps but they gave me something for that. They also had to put a blood drain, which later had to be pulled out, I can't even tell you how much that hurt! The gas bothered me just once, a few hours after surgery and the pain made me cry but it never bothered me again. I had to stay one day in the hospital which I felt was necessary. The attention at the hospital was great and all nurses were very friendly and kind. The first few days at home were a little rough. They prescribed me with a few pills but only to be taken for 5 days. After the first 5 days I started to feel way better. I had a little discomfort when peeing but that completely went away after around 11 days. He removed 5 fibroids from my uterus. My MRI report, done at a different place, showed only 4, maybe because I refused the contrast injection. He removed an extra tiny one not shown on my MRI report, he left nothing behind. The biggest myoma was a 9cmx8cm intramural, the rest were subserosal measuring 3cm and less. I've read that the stitching of the uterus is the most difficult part but I have the short video of my surgery and all my stitches look tight and nicely done. For those of you trying to make a decision of where to go, I would definitely recommend Dr. Hafeez Rahman. Again, thank you all for your help. edited by sunset1 on 05/10/2013 edited by sunset1 on 05/10/2013

Hi @Sophie27 I had Laparoscopic surgery with doctor Hafeez Rahman, at the International Modern Hospital the 18th of September this year. My surgery was a laparoscopic Myomectomy to remove several fibroids from my uterus. It´s been two weeks and I feel great, I had my follow up appointment with him yesterday and my ultrasound showed everything is healing fine. I have 4 incisions, one on my belly buttom which you can´t really see, two at each side of my belly measuring 5mm and one longer,10mm incision (the camera) at the top of my belly, near my ribs. My husband and I thought he was a real nice person and easy to talk to, I also really liked that you can see his work on youtube. We almost cancelled my appointment because they make you wait a while to actually see the doctor. He has a pretty busy practice but after meeting him we were very glad we waited. The day of my surgery he did a few more so you can tell he is someone that does this routinely and has lots of experience. Hope this helps and good luck with your surgery!

I used Platinum Heritage. They take you to the desert on a 1950's land rover. We chose a hotel close to our house for the pick up. It might not be the best if you are going with small kids but my husband and I loved it!

@the Dangerous Blonde, I really liked Dr. Awad Rihab, great bedside manners. she operates with Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed for Laparoscopic surgery. Because of my specific case, If I do surgery with them, I would need to sign for both laparoscopic myomectomy and open myomectomy. They told me I have a 60 to 40 even a 70 to 30 percent chance of being able to do it completely laparoscopically. Although these are good numbers and I know there is always that chance, I have seen other doctors that say they can do it completely laparoscopically. I really don't want to get an open myomectomy since it seems my scar would be a lot wider/higher than a normal c-section and the recovery time is way longer. I am also an extreme sports junkie and wear bikinis a lot. I know I should be more concerned about my uterus than my scars but I am the one that´s going to have to live with them plus I wear bikinis a lot. Your surgery does sound like it was a tricky one. edited by sunset1 on 29/08/2013

@busybee2, Thank you so much for your advice. @susa, was your case similar to mine? did you get laparoscopic surgery? my fibroid is 8-9 cm and it seems I have two little ones as well. How long did it take you to fully recover? @Tattie Bogle, that is tiny! just like my friends back at home, I could totally live with that. Here they talked about a 6-7 inch wide and not on my bikini line. I hope to get Laparoscopy and be back to doing sports after a month but that might be pushing it. edited by sunset1 on 29/08/2013

@busybee2, I am lucky I haven't suffered at all but this is also why I didn´t know I had something growing in there. I think it is now harder for a surgeon to remove it. City Hospital looked like a really nice place but now I have to worry about money too. It seems like my insurance will not be covering this op because it's "pre-existing". The quote I got at City Hospital is in the 50,000 dirham range and this is without any complications. If I can get this done with a good doctor at a lower price, I will probably choose that. Do you remember how long it took you to recover? I am so stressed out. edited by sunset1 on 28/08/2013 edited by sunset1 on 28/08/2013

Thank you all so much for sharing this helpful information with me. I am very relieved to read about so many good outcomes from surgeries similar to mine. I'm still a little scared since it will be my first time under the knife and dreading the recovery time/scars, hopefully I can get back to doing sports a couple of weeks after? @busybee2, I would have done the same in your situation. I am still in my early thirties, no kids. I will try to see your doctor soon. I have no symptoms but it keeps growing so I need to get this done ASAP. @nickym1d, thanks for your feedback, I have an appointment with Doctor Hafeez next week. @madamerose,, thank you for the advice, I will look into it :-) @Apricot, thank you. @Tattie Bogle, Thank You! I might still need to get a C-section. I´ve seen some C-section scars from my friends back at home and they were tiny and very low. Doctors I saw here talked about a bigger and much higher scar, hopefully I won't need one in the end. @Scribs, Thank you! I really liked Dr. Rajesh. He talked about doing my surgery at the Dubai London Hospital in Umm Suqeim 2. I love hearing about how good your surgery went and that it was something as complex as mine. I think I will need an extra scar on top of my bikini line to have the fibroid taken out. It is always hard to trust doctors (even if you like them) so this information is very helpful. edited by sunset1 on 28/08/2013

Thank you all for your kind advice, I really appreciate that. I will try to book appointments with the doctors you all recommend that I have not seen. I have a 13 week size uterus. I do not want to get an open myomectomy but since my fibroid is so large I need a very skilled laparoscopic surgeon. It seems I also have a couple of small fibroids :-( @Scribs, did you get your surgery done at the Dubai London Clinic? Was your case similar to mine? How long did it take you to recover and how big are the scars? @busybee2, if I may ask, Why did you have to get a partial hysterectomy? was your fibroid larger than mine? I have not had kids yet so I would like to keep that possibility open. @Littlefox, Do you know if your friends case was similar to mine? @Apricot, was your case similar to mine?

Hello I need some help choosing where to get my surgery done in Dubai (laparoscopy for a large uterine fibroid). Does anybody have any recommendations? I have already seen Dr Rajesh Devassy at London Clinic, Dr Ibrahim Elrahman at City Hospital, and Dr Rihab Awad / Ibrahim Mohamed at Mitera Clinic. I would really appreciate if somebody can share their experience with me. Thanks.
