I have a good friend that works at a different hospital and he had nothing good to say about this one... That they pay their doctors very poorly and do not attract talented staff. No first hand experience, but good to know...

We used Dr. lohse at American dental clinic. Not the greatest bedside manner, but follows the same sure smile technology that our orthodontist in Virginia used, so it works for us! And yes, it was quite a bit more than what we were paying in VA :-)

What about an eletric pencil sharpener? Any idea where to get this? TIA... Captain America, I love Dragon Mart... even if you don't get anything it's worth going and checking it out. Last time I was there I saw all sorts of items with odd labels (virginity soap, defecation tea, etc) that I am planning on getting for funny gifts for my friends when we go back next month!

I haven't been to Park and Shop yet - does it have things that the other stores don't? Do I need to go check it out?

One of my favorite online stores. They have some very cute dresses right now, I just placed an order yesterday. Also their swimsuits are excellent. I don't know about the shipping though - do they ship here? I had it sent to an address in the US.

Taxis are easily available from malls and hotels, no problem there. Calling them from your house on a Thursday night... that's another story... Good luck on your trip!

do you have timeline? the new layout? if so, one of the boxes near the top will say friends. click on that. then, hover over the person's name and you will see the "friends" box, hover over that, and unfriend them...

Go to their name in your news feed, hover over their name, and you will see their box appear with "friend" on the bottom - move your mouse over that and click "unfriend". Or you can do it from your friend list too.

About the hacking... I wonder what that is about - is it something with having a UAE card? I've had American credit cards for 25 years and never been hacked. Always a good idea to have more than one card though!

We got our live in maid from Explorer. I found them easy to work with and have had no problems. Happy with my maid too. I know 3 other people who have used them as well that are happy. I don't have any experience with Howdra though, as a comparison. I talked to Megan and her number is 04-358-7622. Good luck! I went in and interviewed 4 girls (ha ha interview - they replied "yes madam" to every single question) and then I just picked one. I came back and picked her up a couple of days later because I didn't have any furniture in the maids room, but she was available to take with me on the spot. <em>edited by Suzieq123 on 06/05/2012</em>

I just went to Hayya today. They said that in about 3 months they will have a combined membership, but right now you only have access to the 3 Hayya clubs right here and then something down by Burj Khalifa (I couldn't understand what he was saying).

Definitely credit cards. It is a pain to cash travellers checks, and everywhere takes credit, not like here.

The prep is awful, but if you gotta do it, you gotta do it. I went in for one and thought it would be routine but they removed a large polyp and I am now "higher risk" for colon cancer and have to go back every 2 years. I cried at the thought of doing the prep again :-) Better a bad couple of days than to deal with colon cancer.

"however ppl are just making me afraid of US curriculum saying that it is not good There are more British than Americans here. That's why you hear this. The American school my kids go to is great, I am confident they are getting a great education and will have no issues getting into a top university when time.

Longhorn, we were in the same situation - 2 new TVs. The movers basically crated them. But if you have the original packaging they prefer that. Make sure you check the wattage? voltage? and get a transformer that handles that load and more. And from what I've heard there are power surges here during the summer so a good surge suppressor as well. And you can get the converter in the US before you leave. Everything will be easier there than tracking it down here.

We brought all of our small kitchen appliances with us, and just have a transformer in the kitchen. Also you'll want to google the unlock code for your DVD player as they are different here too. Definitely download Skype and arrange for any special Internet access you may need. We just got here 2 months ago and I have learned a lot!

I need to buy 30 bandannas for a school project... any idea where I can find them? Preferably a mix of yellow, orange, and red, but I'm pretty flexible. I could buy fabric and cut it up, just not sure where to go? I live in Meadows, someone suggested the party store at beach center in jumeirah. Any other ideas? Thank you!

We had plenty of space so I brought all of mine and then bought a transformer. They still seems to get very hot while using them, but they all work. I don't know if it will eventually shorten the life span though - that's what I've heard. But it's been very convenient to have my familiar small appliances. Good luck!

My DD hurt her foot and I think needs an X-ray just to be safe. We live in the Meadows and do not have a dr here yet. Any recommendation on where I can take her - either today or tomorrow - that is 'convenient'? It is a bit swollen and tender but not a real emergency. Thank you!

I am new to Dubai and hired a maid 2 weeks ago. It is working out really well, but I think she is bored. She is a very hard worker and is done with the daily chores, laundry, etc. by early afternoon. I like to cook and do that myself while helping the kids with their homework. What are the "extra" things you have your maids do? I think she really likes to keep busy. Any tips are much appreciated.

I tried the nail stuff, DD didn't care. After months of different Ideas, I used duct tape and it worked! She didn't like the way her thumb tasted and felt in her mouth with tape on it.

I just went today with a friend from America. We had afternoon tea at the Sahn Eddar in the lobby and spent some time looking around as well. It was AED 380 per person with a glass of bubbly and you had to reserve with credit card and show confirmation to get it. There were 8 courses - berries with ice cream, tea sandwiches (7 per person), roast beef (2 slices), lemon sorbet with cucumber jelly, scones (2 per person), petit fours (I was stuffed by this time and only had 1 though I was offered more), and then little chocolates. My friend and I thought it was worth the price and enjoyed it!

I am getting first maid this week. I have bed, dresser, small tv. I will get bed linens, toiletries, towels. What else do I need? Should I get her dishes/cookware? She does not have her own kitchen and it is quite a small room. What about small refrigerator? Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
