Get someone from the SA Consulate to call them in Pretoria. They can and should help you. They are always hiding in the back offices, so demand to see/speak to them instead of being fobbed off by the (non SA) clerks at the front counters...arrghh..

It's actually allot simpler than I thought. I like jado pado. Bought my ipad from them and have had good after sales service so I decided to buy the my iphone 5 from them last week as well. I like that their products comes with facetime, my main reason for not wanting to get it from etisalat. I went to the etisalat kiosk in MOE over the weekend and they gave me a nano sim and cancelled my old one. I didnt need any documents, they just asked for my emirates ID card and the guy made a copy of it. It took less than an hour to activate. After it was activated I went back to the kiosk and he activated the data package I chose. I took the 1GB package for AED99 per month. DH recommended that as he said its more than enough if you use wifi most of the time and keep your cellular option off. Within 10 mins I got 2 text messages from etisalat confirming my data package was activated. So happy with the phone (and I am a 1st time user, have always been a BB addict) and the setup was done in less than 1 hour total.

Just braised onions, leeks and celery with beef cubes in a pan. When done, I put it into the SC with cut up butternut, pumpkin, carrots and one large sweet potato. The butternut and pumpkin was more than the other vegetables. Mixed 2 beef cubes in water with a packet of maggi soup mix and added salt and pepper. When it was done, I removed the beef, blended the soup in the blender and then dished the beef back into the blended soup. Yum, thick and creamy and seems to be the only way lately that I can get the kids to eat veggies, each one had 3 servings ;)

A bit off topic but I made the most amazing pumpkin and butternut soup in my slow cooker today. Absolutely yum and zero effort, really love my SC!

My 2nd one was an elective c-sec due to my 1st being an emergency c-sec and the dr knew the history etc. I was very fortunate to have the same dr. Dr Ulrich at Welcare. He was absolutely brilliant both times and I have almost no c-sec scar to show for it. I would recommend him as you will be in great hands for sure.

I would try to do as little as possible, especially if I have to return to work after the 3 months. Sleeping, reading, chilling by the pool, beach and in coffee shops, movies and I will also try to go on beach vacations. Bliss! :)

I dont rate it. Like previous posters have said, the stalls are far and few between and there is no real entertainment. I went 2 years ago and stayed for a while, last year tried it again and stayed for 10 mins. Wont bother this year. Shame really as they can do so much more with that space, it's a great venue.

Hat's a good idea! Well mine's frizzy anyway, so guess it cannot get worse :) Whatever you do, dont wear your cute shoes, they may damage. From memory, I think its grass. It's not far to walk from the different parking areas. I think I'll take that advice. Too warm for UGGs, guess it will be the eternal flip flops :) Yeah, I will pass on the UGGs too but will wear my comfy leather boots, cooler but with enough protection (in case someone decides to step on toes, ouch). May rain too...I remember being soaked at the Coldplay concert a few years ago, not nice! I only ever went to probably 3 concerts in all my time in Dubai and when I go it rains, go figure ;) That was teh best concert ever when it rained at Coldplay!! Soaken through hahaha! I was in shorts and t-shirts Not a fan so didnt appreciate the soaking, just there to support DH who is a die hard fan of coldplay! Well, at least it's my turn tonight. I know DH would rather poke needles in his eyes than see Jlo but I'm looking forward to it! :)

I would like to get a special tutu made for my 2 year old DD. Some months back there was someone advertising custom made tutus on dubizzle, however, they are not answering my emails. Can anyone recommend a 'tutu tailor'? TIA I bought one off Etsy for 200dhs for DD's birthday. It is adorable and sooo big and fluffy. I could never make one that just looks so fabulous, she used loads of tulle in different shades of pink and adorned it with crystals too! DD loves it.

Have you tried the party shop in garhoud (opp Welcare hospital)? Thats my favorite and I always revert back to it. I recently ordered lots of things from abroad and got it via shop & ship and was pleased as punch as it was very "different" and I didnt even think to go to the party shop as I assumed you would not get it in Dubai shops. Well popped in there for one additional thing I needed, and all the same things were there for the same prices I paid online! I of course paid additional shipping charges too. My point is, they do get new stock in all the time and quite nice, different things too so although they will almost for sure have the normal CARS (lightning mcqueen etc), they may have your checkered design too.

I would suggest you work out what your cost of living would be based on your personal preferences and families needs and then deduct that from what your monthly take home salary will be. You may be surprised. Dubai is expensive. My and DH's combined salary is more than that and we do save but some months we are not able to at all. There's always something. Dubai is expensive. I love it, but it's expensive.

In all honesty, I heard this once and it's so true, it never gets easier but it does get better. There is always something...you just stop with one thing and the next thing is there HOWEVER if you want an actual line in the sand, I would say from approx 2 years old but then you have the terrible 2 stage kick in ;) I'm no help, am I? Sorry, it will get better, try not to stress too much and I know it sounds impossible but try and rest at every opportunity you can find. You will be amazed how much better things appear and your increased ability to handle it all when you are not sleep deprived. Hugs.

As I have mentioned hubby has changed job in the last few months and we have just found out I am pregnant but that our policy doesn't cover it. Has anyone else been through this and can advise what our options are? Private packages, government hospitals etc. Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated :-) Read the fine print. Ours did not cover maternity either HOWEVER it covered it in the case of emergency. So I purchased a package for my visits and we saved for the actual birth. Well, it ended with me needing an emergency C-sec and by the time I made it back to my room after the surgery I was informed they already sent request for approvals (my doc was on the ball) and that the entire thing was covered! I saved 25,000AED.

Drive down SZR until you get to the junction for Dubai Mall. At that junction stay in the left lane marked for Jumeirah. The road will take you over and down past French Bakery on your right. Drive straight through the first set of lights. At the second set, take the slip road right. Drive straight for about 5 minutes through all the lights until you come in to Satwa, you'll pass the bus station on your left. After the bus station and the first block of shops you'll see an entrance to a car park on your left, you can park in there to be central. You'll now see most of the shops selling UAE things, absolutely anything and everything! There is a nice atmosphere down there at the moment as all the shops literally have UAE things spilling out of them. Enjoy! ;) Perfect, thanks! One last Q...do you know if the shops close between 1-4pm like some areas?

Satwa has tons of everything already done & very good prices BH, can you please tell me where exactly you would park and which street to go down? Sorry, only ever drove past Satwa but never been shopping in the actual streets if you know what I mean. You make it sound so appealing I want to give it a go as I need to get things for DS and DD as well. TIA!!!

The basic salary can be decreased IF there is consent by the employee. As you say you did not sign anything, they will have to pay gratuity on the "original" basic salary amount. Some of these lawyers are quite unhelpful. We use Al Tamimi (at work) and although they are not cheap, they are always helpful and knowledgeable (in case you want to try checking with a lawyer again).

I have these little blighters too... And they are not leaving. Sugarsweet Can you guarentee 100 percent national do actually get rid of them.... I have used them in the past and only sprayed outside as their chemicals are so harsh with the strongest smell that lingers for days I hate to think what it would be like in the villa with dogs and small children. Is the smell awful? edited by JShepherd on 08/11/2012 I have never not had a good result with them and ours does not smell...maybe depends on the type of spray they are using? It will vary depending on the type of bugs you want to get rid of. I have little ones too and we have never had a problem. The last time they even said I didnt have to clear out my kitchen cupboards but I always do. They usually spray inside and outside as well as in the drains. I cannot fault them as the ants have always disappeared immediately. I also try to get them in whenever we move into a new place so there's time to air out before we physically move in and its easier as the villa is empty.

If it makes you feel better, I have been one 1 week too and lost 600g! I did have a biscuit just now with my tea - my 1 indiscretion for the week. I feel ok though, not too let down as I feel like I have lost more because of the way I feel in my clothes. Am going to keep at it. Good luck with persevering!

Only ever used National Pest Control and they always got rid of them. Inside and outside. I *HATE* them in the kitchen, especially the small red ones! You need to describe them when booking the service and they will send the correct chemical to kill that specific type.

Babyshop has them too. I bought ones previously and it was very cheap on sale. Doesn't look as pretty as the one on the link but does the same thing. Came in a blue, green and white box.
