BOO!! Didn't find the Maggi kabsa spices at Spinneys!!!! Have you tried C4? I always get it there. It is very nice, sometimes I even just throw it in when boiling the basmati rice and afterwards add the rice to fried beef mince. Delicious.

(1) We're starting out with solids so I'm writing everything down that DS eats/tries in case of an allergic (or other) reaction. If she gives him yoghurt - that I didnt pack - what happens if it's sour or he has a reaction? Am I wrong to want to ask them not to give him anything that is not packed by me? (Quote) Not wrong at all! In fact this should go without saying. You could ask them to let you know if they see there are other things he seems to want in his lunchbox that he sees other kids have, like the yoghurt for instance. I ask my kids this but as he is too young, you should depend on them to communicate this to you. You could then try to pack that too if it fits in with what you want him to eat. Kids are really hit and miss with food, so everything else sounds pretty normal to me.

My advice would be to do as the police told you. The police is super helpful but if they get called out again, and chances are it will be the same officers, they will not be impressed if you went against what they told you to do. So although she may be in the wrong, they will not side with you. Unfortunately stick it out until the 31st. On the morning of 1 August, change the locks and put her belongings outside. When she comes back she will either leave peacefully or if she kicks up a fuss and calls the police tell them that you did as they asked and now she is disturbing the peace and upsetting your family. They will gladly take her away for you. We had an experience with a craaazy maid a long time ago who called the police and because we did what they asked and explained calmly, they ended up locking her up! Good luck...I know this is a stressful time but try to stay calm and simply ignore her when she is there until the 31st.

Sorry but Emirates is the pits...I still fly them when there is no other choice but they have gone down badly. Qatar is nothing special but better than Emirates. I actually found Etihad to be very good. Pity about the long drive to Abu Dhabi. I would definitely fly more often with them if they departed from Dubai airport. Trying Cathay pacific for our hols this summer. Hope we wont be disappointed. You do not have to drive, Etihad operate a coach, one of those luxury tourist type ones, from the Chelsea tower on SZR and one other location for economy passengers, or a limo pickup for business etc. I know someone who uses it all the time, says it is very comfy and no hassle. They also do pick up and drop off at the Dubai Marina Mall. Its a good service and takes an hour. I think they depart every hour from AD. You get free water and comfy seat. We have missed it before and had to get a taxi which cost us 300aed which wasnt ideal but still cheaper than Emirates when we added the 300aed. Thanks Genie, yes, am aware of the coach service, took it the times we traveled with them and whats nice too is that you can check your baggage in when you get on the coach, so you dont have to do it in Abu Dhabi. But its still a longer ride to AUH than quickly popping down to Dubai airport. Quicker always wins with us especially with two kiddies in tow!

I think there's a fine line between unintentionally forgetting and intentionally leaving them to either "quickly" get something done like taking groceries out of the car or while they sleep in the car. Unintentionally forgetting can definitely happen, to the best of us, even though its everyone's prayer that it never does. It helps not to be overconfident that a tragedy such as this will never befall you, so better to be vigilant at all times. Intentionally is where the education comes in that is is never ever a good idea to leave a child in a car even for a split second, especially in this heat. It is so so sad.

My mom and I have never really been close and I now have a completely different relationship with my children compared to the one I had with her. She is also very selfish always putting no.1 first. However, I have come to learn that she will never change and I do not want to live with regrets so I have a relationship with her but I do not do more than what she does. I dont think you should invest more in the relationship that you can afford to lose and acceptance goes a long way. Accept that that is the way she is, have no expectations and you will hopefully have no disappointments. I no longer expect her to call me or even her grandchildren, so when she does not, I am not disappointed. If she does, great. We get along and she comes for visits but I take it all in my stride and instead put all the energy I have (which was negative before) into fostering a relationship with my daughter and son that I always longed she would have with me. Since taking that approach, I no longer feel stressed out so much and we argue less! Selfish people have a way of not even realising how much their actions or words hurt others around them so chances are, she is oblivious to the way you are feeling and thinks she is a great mom. All the talks in the world will not change that. She has to want to change herself, from within. My mom has a similar relationship with her mom. That is why I made a conscious decision for it not to continue to the next generation with my kids. I hope you will do the same if you have kids or will have them in the future. The relationship is there but I no longer invest in it as much as I used to (mostly to get her approval, which you will never really get) and I have been much happier since. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.xx

Hugsys, they are really good quality. It is also sheer like the ones in your pic so falls quite nicely as its a soft fabric. I got them in a champagne gold colour. I have bought a few from Home Centre a looong time ago, you cannot compare. The pairs are rarely the same length amongst other things. Since then only been to dragon mart for curtains for the past 7 years or so (Zhongdi is good) so was pleasantly surprised to find these at Home R Us.

Hugsys, I bought identical curtains to those from Homes R Us. It doesnt have blackout but that you can have done at dragon mart for AED50 per curtain. I think I paid AED200 for the set at Homes R Us. They have lovely, reasonably priced curtains and most of them are lined.

I have never been but I did call them for a quote and remember it being astronomical! I have since been to K-Medi Spa for underarms and although I was told I would need approx 5-6 sessions, I have had almost no growth after just one session :\. I am due to go back for my 2nd session but really dont know if its needed so will hear what the therapist says. Really impressed so am going to be brave and try other parts now as well :)

Beebers, a few weeks of strictly replacing that with meals and seeing no effect counted as not working in my books because usually I dont have such a problem with dropping weight. I have previously been as disciplined with something else, and seen great results, although yes it wasnt a replacement shake. Maybe this is just not for me, doesnt mean it wont work for others of course. I couldnt justify it to my taste buds!

Unfortunately I had no results with this :( Took it for a few weeks and stopped as the suffering was not worth it, for me at least ;) The cinnamon is definitely better than the regular one (I couldnt stomach that at all) but I still almost gagged most times with the cinnamon but it is drinkable. In spite of that, would probably have continued if I saw results but sadly did not.

Please post feedback if you purchase from Couchia .. I really liked some of the styles but wasn't sure about the print and fabric It is the fabric i am unsure of also as i like cotton not the stretchy material if that makes sense. I am going to try and drive over there to have a look at them in the flesh and will keep you posted Same concern. I don't mind the stretchy material (I think that's polyster or cotton mix) but it is so uncomfortable in Dubai weather so I'm looking for cotton or some breathable fabric! Thanks :) It is the polyester fabric. Not been to the shop but I bought 3 from her at a school fair. She gets them from Thailand. If you have ever been to Thailand and seen the dresses sold in the markets, you will know what to expect. There are some beautiful styles and prints. Thanks i have a penchant for maxi dresses and need to stop buying them Me too! Recently I have found nice but inexpensive ones at H&M. Worth popping into whenever you can to see what they have but if its not what you really want, dont buy! ;)

I would think that it might be best to send her on vacation then, just tell her that you don't want to pay 2 months salary. So either she goes with one month or stays with one month. Why should you pay extra? because it is part of a legal contract. And because the one month is paid leave, so when she does not take that annual leave she gets it paid out.

Well it depends on when his birthday is I suppose. My DD is about to turn 5 and do FS 2. She's always been the oldest in class as she just misses the age cut off. Call them and find out. I have always found the registrar to be very approachable and patient with answering questions. Her name is Tania Filus.

They are part of the alshaya group so you can put credit on an alshaya card and give that. I recently had credit from H&M and used the card to purchase something a Claire's.

I dont think it matters which nursery your child will be at because they accept kids by visiting nurseries but also of course ones who apply directly. I did however see quite a few kids with jebel ali village nursery t-shirts at the recent orientation day. Edited to add: 2 or 3 will be fine. They will ideally do FS1 at the age of 3 at the nursery and start at the age of 4 in FS2 at JAPS. Dont know if you know that JAPS does not offer FS1. Good luck. edited by SweetSugar123 on 14/06/2012

We did phuket and koh samui last year and will be doing just phuket this year again. If you do phuket, I dont think you get much better than the JW Marriott, where we are returning to. We are also going to try a hotel in the laguna area this year. JW is an absolutely amazing hotel. Search tripadvisor for ideas and once you have decided on the island look for great hotels on booking.com. I think they have the best rates, always use them. Enjoy.

They come in S,M,L etc etc. The idea is to push everything back so you are not supposed to feel as if you are not wearing it but it should also not be hurting you. Maybe just take 1 size smaller, not necessarily a size 10. You could always buy smaller ones as you lose the weight. It was no struggle to get it but as mentioned, it wasnt the one I wanted. They just included it in the final bill which was covered by the insurance anyway. The one at Life is broad and it says on the package thats its for c-sections etc. It was not more than about AED130. Just buy your own to be sure you will have one, hospital may be out of stock or not have your size. I got the babyshop ones before finding the Life one, sorry but they not nice. I probably had 4 in total, each time trying a new one, hoping it would work better, be more comfy etc. until I got the last one. edited by SweetSugar123 on 14/06/2012

My hospital provided it, but only after I requested one from my dr. It wasn't the broad ones though. I got one from Life pharmacy after I was discharged. They really do work but you should wear it as soon as possible after birth, as consistently as possible (only take it off when you have to bath or shower) and for as long as possible (2-3 months) at least.

I would let her go. She knows you know that she has lied, in spite of her miscommunication excuse so if you leave it, you are leaving yourself (and your child) wide open to further lies and abuse. And trust me it will happen again and again. As a working mom relying on my maid heavily, I would be in a very difficult position if she were to leave tomorrow or I was to let her go but I would bite the bullet. You will be surprised how many maids are actually available immediately. There will be someone thats hardworking and honest out there for your family who deserves the job more than your current maid. She will only realise what she had when its gone! Trust is just way too important. I would not leave my children with someone I cannot trust and you domt know what else she is capable of.

I've always found the service at West 14 to be bad...whether for lunch or dinner and whether they were busy or not...shame because it has the potential to be a good restaurant, the setting is fab... Me too! They basically ignore you and you have to keep trying to get their attention. I like the restaurant, food is just ok, service is pathetic. Lots of room for improvement, they have a good location.

I had 2 c-sections. One emergency and one planned. The emergency one only took place after being in labor for almost 18 hours, so I defintely tried normal first! Both bubs were just way to big. Because of the first experience the second was recommended and of course I followed my doctors advice. I would say, try for normal and see what happens on the day, doing whats best for the baby and you. If you end up with an emregency c-section though, I would suggest, if possible to ask for spinal anaesthesia. They gave me local and as a result DH was not allowed into the theatre room. I did the spinal with the second and he was there all the way. Good luck and hope it all works out well for you! It is all worth it in the end, regardless of which way you end up giving birth.

Sorry to hear that but please dont be too hard on him or yourself. I think these assessments are silly anyway. You never know how a 3 year old will act in that situation and to assess how they will perform at school by spending a few minutes with them is completely unfair. They are just too young. Chin up!
