Champions in the new Marriott showed a couple last weekend. It might be worthwhile checking with them if there's a particular game he's after as I believe they sometimes record them to show later.

If it's not rented out, your OH should have council tax paperwork which will make everything easy for him to satisfy residency requirements (that's what we did for my DH). It might be best for you to call the council and find out if your driving licence will suffice. Otherwise you might need to do what cleanfreak suggested and go to your parents'. Regarding tax, never say never, but in my experience the various departments do not speak to each other.

Hi Lala81 We got married in the UK in May. There are a few things to take into account. Firstly are you & DH both British? It will be a different process if you are not. Secondly, as you are getting married by a registrar and not in a church, you both need to give notice of marriage at the council/borough in which you live - not the one where you are getting married. You will each need to do this. The rules state you have to do it a minimum of 16 days before the wedding, but it can take a fair bit of time to get an appointment so do not leave it till the last minute - the piece of paper is valid for a year. You will need to show proof of residency (ie bank statements), but they will have all the info on the council website. One thing I found is they were a bit suspicious as we were out of the country while arranging it, but they couldn't be more helpful once I was there in person.

We no longer have Mosaic (thankfully) but last year it would drop out for hours (together with the internet) whenever there was a decent storm. It's looking pretty dark out there now...

Was in Tavola in City Centre earlier so asked there - they should have them in their Royal Plaza branch (but unfortunately I don't know where that is!)

Also if you're into baking you might want to bring specific food colourings/flavourings as they only have the artificial ones here (ie birthday cakes)

We just went to the Chedi in Oman for our honeymoon and it was GORGEOUS! Maybe a few too many people for what you're after, but we couldn't fault it. Plus they have just built a 150m infinity pool and brand new gym & spa complex!

I find ugg boots quite useful around the house as the tiles are quite cold. Although being Australian, they are for indoors only!!

Katcalls I agree, they're on my shopping list already! GinaM - My family are from QLD, I grew up in Sydney, and my parents moved to Canberra for work last year. It was -2 when I landed at 10pm last night - bit of a shock to the system!

It depends on the landlord. Our current flat is fully furnished and includes crockery, sheets, towels, saucepans etc... but the fully furnished one we are moving to has nothing apart from furniture and rugs. In the UK I would consider that to mean semi furnished, but here semi furnished means it has whitegoods (but no furniture).

I read an article on twitter yesterday saying that Qataris represent only 6% of the workforce in Qatar, and 20% of the population. Of an estimated population of 1.7m, I'm not sure it can be that high?

I think it depends on where you buy the dress from. Many bridal shops are affiliated with seamstresses/sewing rooms, and want you to have the fittings done by their preferred people, but some will let you take it as soon as it arrives. If you're getting married in the UK, it might be easier to buy it there, leave it there, and then get the adjustments done just before the wedding? Remember some dresses have up to a 6 month lead time, although most I found were around the 12 week mark, and my dress ended up only taking 8 weeks. Also some bridal shops can be funny about allowing you to take photos of the dresses (if you were to get an idea of what you wanted while trying them on and then get it recreated in Dubai), but it really depends on where you are. Good luck with the dress-hunting, I'm sure you'll have a great time!

We had a look at them the other day... believe it was just two and three bedrooms, at 23,000 and 28,000 each!! It used to be a hotel that they have turned into serviced apartments

Thanks MaryCatherine, neither did ours... In the meantime however, the PRO has filled in some forms that we need to take to immigration at Madinat Khalifa and we'll see where that gets us... I have a feeling that if I go back to the airport again tomorrow, someone different on the desk will have a different requirement :)

I'm doing a Masters at Macquarie and had to declare that I was an Australian citizen and provide details of my undergrad degree at UNSW. I can't recall anything about residency (was living in the UK at the time). My degree is full fee-paying, however - it might be different if you are looking to do it through HECS...

Mel from Nelson Park is lovely and showed me 6 villas a few weeks ago, but ultimately we decided not to use them as why would we pay an agency fee when we can get the same place directly from the landlord with no charge, by driving up to the gate as Amy said...

Will your yard be large enough for it? Most of the compounds I have seen have had tiny terraces as opposed to gardens big enough for the trampoline we had as kids (but then again I have been looking at 3br ones rather than 5/6 br ones)... Also what colour is the trampoline mat? Growing up in Australia we had to cool down the black mat with the hose before getting on it in summer...
