We lived there for a year. My advice is to keep an eye on the humidity levels in the apartment - our bed sheets and clothes started feeling damp to touch - we bought a monitor and it was regularly about 80% - the maintenance guys couldn't work it out and it was one of the reasons we ended up moving out. Overall though we loved the location and the facilities.

I quite like the American Grill at the Somerset. And DH likes Ikea for plastic sausages and beans (but the coffee is ok :) )

I can pick up Radio 2 from Abu Dhabi on 106.0 when it's sandy... You've been hearing a lot of radio 2 lately then with the sandstorm... heehee... :) I keep getting excited when I hear adverts for places like Pottery Barn... Then I remember :) You may not believe this but we've gone up to Jebel Shams in Oman and listened to QBS! Yup! GM you cannot possibly miss Bernie that much! (He now reads the news as well, in case you are!)

Firstly your husband needs to find out if he would be provided with an NOC if he leaves his current job. Secondly he needs to find out if there are any problems with changing sponsor within a year - I have heard it is not possible to change sponsors so quickly, but I don't know for sure.

This is all on the assumption you are from one of the countries that can get visa on arrival. If you are Sourh African, for example, it will be more difficult

M&S, Debenhams, Next, Boots etc etc are about 30% more expensive here. I tend to stock up on Radox shower gel, wine gums, birthday cards (selection fairly dire), Aussie shampoo products and natural food colouring for baking. Oh if you are a UK size 7 or above, the choice of shoes is fairly limited.

If the baby decides to come early you will probably have some extra time, as they will try to keep baby in until you reach full term, and hubby can get on a flight straight away!! Do you have a friend or a doula you could use as back up, for your peace of mind?

I took his own sheets so it smelled like home and he was fine. I found I over-thought a lot of it - I worried about the travel cot, time difference, different formula... And he wasn't fussed by any of it!!!

15 mins or so in non-peak hour - but it depends on which tower you are in on the Pearl, as it can take 20 mins just to get off the Pearl! Also be aware there are major roadworks between the Pearl and Arch Roundabout which will last for quite a few years.

I called this school and was taken aback by the school fees - 46 000 QR per a school year! How can it be justified??? Simple - demand and supply!!! Have you not noticed the number of people struggling to get school places for their children?!

We went to California Tortilla for lunch today (Ramada junction, next to the Korean restaurant, opposite Chillis) - and while not as, shall we say, rustic, as Cha Cha, it was very good! Also has an indoor play area for kiddies

Hi Chatter Box I'm sorry I don't have a contact for you, but if I were you I would want a professional to help preserve my hair, rather than someone with a business on the side. Desert Princess in in Ain Khalid gets very good reviews, and I'm sure if you rang them and explained they could help you find an arrangement you feel comfortable with.

The Qatar Airways flight into Melb arrives at 10pm so you will need to stay overnight there. Don't know if that makes it harder or easier for you... I like Etihad but you will have the same stopover issue as Emirates. The boys will be fine with the entertainment system :) edited by tamieg1 on 01/05/2013

I lived in Tokyo too - while the bar is definitely the Park Hyatt in Shinjuku, I believe the other scenes were filmed at the (then new) Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills. Enjoy your trip, I'm really jealous!

You know that new mall they're building at Dahl al Hamam Park roundabout - there are a few little compounds around there, but I imagine they'd be noisy. Think your best bet will be to drive around and just ask security-type men that you see... There's also Al Malki Gardens on the other side of the road (Starfish side)

Al Areen Gardens is in your budget, don't know if there are any vacancies though. There is also one in Duhai I thought was nice, not sure how to spell it but think someone from this site lives there - Jelailah Complex? Al Jazi Village 2 might have some vacancies coming up too.

Glad I had: Swaddle Me swaddles - he could get out of other types. Loads of dummies Enormous JuJuBe nappy bag & clips to hang it from Bugaboo Didn't need: Too many muslins, could have got away with 2-3 Sophie toy (still has no interest in it) Video camera - easier and more convenient just to use iPhone Special nappy bin

I used to go to one of the top colourists in London - and have quickly got over being precious about colour!! I suggest if there is a particular colour & technique your current colourist uses, you get as many details as possible about it from them. Most salons here use L'Oreal or Schwarzkopf, so probably no need for a skin test.
