Hello, As you are coming from the US, your electrical things will NOT work here (different voltage) The voltage used here is the same as in the UK (which is why other poster said they had no problems) . The only thing i was able to bring from NA was my hair straightener! (as it is adaptable to both voltages). Other then that, i would bring as MUCH stuff as you can with you; you can buy it here but it cost a lot more!!! Yes there is ikea though (if you want the cheap stuff) Gosh i miss walmart...... edited by tdale on 12/08/2011

I have been both to Janeta and Amel Tayeb and recommend Tayeb over Janeta ANY DAY of the week. Janeta, in my opinion, didnt know how to diagnose me properly at all; whereas Tayeb explained everything to me in great detail and is finally helping me out!!

it took me three years and i STILL couldn't get a visa to sponsor my husband to go to canada, lol.... Your best bet is just getting a maid from an agency once you are inside Canada (there are tons of them).

as far as i know there is no "discount" for shipping more then one dog from US-Dubai. Each dog cost a certain amount to ship, based on size and weight. I hope you are sending a dog that is okay with the heat- there is no A/C cooling system once the dog lands in Dubai and even the temps at night are as high as 35C

No, i said if you [b'>DONT[/b'> plan on getting your own visa. You can NOT work under your husbands visa, it is illegal. If you want to work, you need your own work visa, and then you would need to have your stuff attested. And no matter what, if you are coming in as husband and wife, and living together, you need you marriage license attested.

If your coming on DH visa, and dont plan on getting your own work visa at any point, then no you won't need it attested. Only need marriage liscense attested.

tdale, what do you mean they can be moved back in right place? do you mean removed and put back in using the same hair? Yup- if you go to a salon that is listed as being able to use the real "great lengths" extensions, then they can remove the extension and replace it back at the top where your hair is growing out :) It also cost only about $200 to do this, better then having new ones put in all over again!

mine cost $1000 (=3,500dhms) but i had the EXTRA LONG extensions put in, which i had to wait to have ordered. I had mine done when i was back in NA. They last about 6 months (OR can be moved back in right place for a fee)

ahhh, shouldnt take too long. Mainly you need to contact the airline, book a ticket etc.. Not sure which re-locator you are using, but i recommend the 2 in Abu Dhabi, both the Brit Vet and American Vet clinics have relocation teams which are amazing! Im sure they would be able to answer any firther questions you have about the move! i cant wait to move to the uk.... 16 months and counting!!

Scotland:) Sorry had to say it:) totally agree :D I live on the Palm, and rather live in the Ranches!!! I have no kids, but LOVE the community and walks you can do around the ranches (more of a community feel to it) compared to the Palm where i have NO neighbors on 3 sides of me!! it is just dead out here....

Gummy- yes you can just "assume" a name, but it is not the same as "legally" changing a name. I legally changed mine back in Canada, so that my passport would officially say my new name (Dh last name) and not my old birth name. so complicated....

Could be Shingles (have you been under a lot of stress lately?? this would cause it) they are a re-occurrence of the chickenpox and CAN spread to children who have not yet had them. Best to see a Dr. to be sure!

also.. according to the website, you only need 1) birth certificate from Canada (if you were born there) and 2) something like driving license/ health card etc.. (if you still have one?) It says nothing about needing a sin card (and those are the only 2 documents i needed when i applied) http://www.ppt.gc.ca/cdn/section1.aspx?lang=eng gosh the Canadian government is so confusing.....

Okay, not to go off topic- but trying to help out: are you here on your own work visa? If not- you would be here on DH visa, correct? Do you/ did you not have to get a marriage license stamped by Canadian government to show you are legally married before entering the UAE? I only ask, because that is what i had to do, to legally be allowed to live here with DH. When did they alter the law on changing name on passport? I only had mine done in 2009, which is why i ask :)

i would NOT have it mailed here!!! I dont trust the post here at ALL, most of all with an important document like that!! When i changed my passport to married name, i never changed my sin card (but i never plan on using my sin card again). Do you plan on going back to Canada to work? As far as i "know" you dont need a new sin card as your old one is still valid under your birth name (but could be wrong?) Either way- i would send it to my parents and have them keep it safe until i could have it handed over in person, rather then mail system! Hope that helps!

ya, well one of my dogs is small (she weights about 15lbs) and it still cost a lot.... you need to add in the fee for vets, proper carrier, ticket, paper work that will need to be done, and use of a relocation company... i cant wait to move out of here though, even with the cost of taking my dogs with me!!

it cost about $3000 (coming from Canada) for each of my dogs, so $6000 total. I am staying 3 years however (and they arent cats) so of course i brought them with me. If your cat is happy with your parents, then i would leave her there. It is a LOT of stress on an animal which is not crate trained to be put on the plane for that long!

Not sure where you are moving from, but you CAN but a lot of items which you would find back in the UK and US (just cost more for certain items!) It is always cheaper here to buy "local" food, like dairy and meat products, compared to what you would pay for the imported items of the same thing! Hope that helps!!
