I want 2 fuf chairs - like beanbags only with foam instead of beans - can't find them here because all the shops seem to sell the same thing, namely, beanbags. I bought some online from target in the states for our place at home and they are fantastically comfy. Bring on target! Do you think we could start a petition? edited by Teabag on 02/10/2011

We bought for all the kids for birthdays this year. Two in Virgin, one in carrefour and one in CompuME. The CompuME one has .FaceTime installed, as does hubby's iMac - bought in Virgin but ipad's bought in Virgin and carrefour don't. IMac from Virgin also has Arabic/English keyboard, but same in CompuME has English only. Seems some rules apply in some stores. FYI. There is now a S**pe app for iPad - free on app store so you can use that!

Hi We live in Barsha 1 close to Wellington international school and my kids can walk to school. We are also walking distance to arguably the best mall, although there are others almost as good, with metro links. Bear in mind the heat when considering walking - mine cut through the metro station to get some a/c on their way home! As for you school fees allowance - if you go onto the school website, wellington international school (all one word) and look under admissions there is a fee schdule. WIS is about average to upper average for uk curriculum school. You can also check other school website like this. There is a site that lists all the schools and fees - it has been on here before but I can't remember what it is. You could search but you are likely to get lots of threads with people complaining about school fees!

Shoes - missed that bit Zak's have a separate shoe shop but again no particular uniform shoe is necessary. Sensible leather black - no black trainers or 'heavily disguised as shoes' trainers and no heels for girls obviously.

Backpacks and book bags Do NOT have to be uniform. I fell for that one - convinced by the Zak's staff. No wheelie bags though. I am not sure what you mean by scarf - the girl equivalent of a tie? Ties are mandatoy - with scarf like thing for girls - see on the website to check what you need. My boys never once used the book bags.

Get them to help you build an obstacle course, mark water hazards, etc on floor with tape, use cushions, chairs, blankets and under the table etc. Have crocodile infested water, bear tracks etc, to make it exciting, and make little tasks at each 'waystation' they have to complete - riddles etc - before they move to the next stage - with a grand prize a the end. If you are sneaky you could have food puzzles - like jigsaw sandwiches they have to complete and eat - cut the cheese, meat, bread etc into shapes with a cookie cutter and have them assemble and eat! or move the mini marshmallows with the straw from plate to plate and then eat.... M&M's on a spoon through the jungle - eat any you drop and see how many you can get to the end of the obstacle course....

Just been through something similar. Got my teenager to help me! Copied all onto memory stick - in batches and transferred easily. Not playlist though. Tis worked for songs loaded from CDs For purchases, if you go onto help there is a way to find your purchased music, and to download again. I think is under 'managing my account'. We also got things loaded by plugging in the iPod and when it recognizes the device, it says there are items on the device which are not in your library and do you want to transfer them to the computer .... So we did and there they were!

We did this in victory heights 18 months ago - permission was 1000dhs as far as I remember, with same deposit. UP seems steep but I don't know if that's normal for motor city. edited by Teabag on 26/06/2011

It is really driving me crazy. I have written to iTunes and see what they come back with. One of my kids lost his library. Not cool when you're 15! He could import back from his brothers but can't homeshare so he is really cross. Well, even more cross than usual for a teenager!! We are trying to load every device (ipods, ipads and iphones) before we go away for 2 months - I could really do without this right now! I have been buying movies for their iPads but not able to share between computers is maddening - I'm not buying them three times!!

I did this a couple of weeks ago. I found poached egg on two slices of low fat ham (instead of toast) was a quick and easy meal. Steak or grilled chicken breast served with a dip made from a tsp mustard added to 2 dessert spoon fat free fromage frais. Oat bran in lulu's in an orange coloured tall tin, with the porridge oats, far bottom left at the end of the aisle. I have mine with daily milk tsp cinnamon and tsp fake sugar as porridge. You can also add to veg smoothy on pv days in cruise phase. Hope this helps. I lost 6kg during May. edited by Teabag on 31/05/2011

I have another question. Managed to get sharing but the movies on my old uk account don't seem to be registering. We are all connected, I can get at the music, apps etc from the USA accounts on my old UK account but can't see my movies on their computers. Any suggestions how to fix this? Unfortunately I don't know anyone in the USA well enough to ask them to pay out 100 dollars in advance, that's why I asked if anyone here had the ability to get me the cards - and to get paid back here, in dollars.

Exactly. US gift cards allow you to shop on itune USA. We are going to be heading over at the end of June so we can get some more then anyway. I don't know anyone well enough to ask! This forum would allow me to repay the purchaser immediately! I am hoping the bank can sort my us credit card to give my USA address. Problem solved! Thanks anyway Ashleigh.

Unfortunately our US account is billed here and apple won't let us use it for our US iTunes account! I have contacted the bank and asked to change our billing addresss to our US home but no luck yet - will keep trying! I hate clogging the mailbox there with mail. Apple insists we use a uae based iTunes account but I don't want to! (stamps feet)

Is it better to eat a lot of protein? I am not a huge eater at the best of times, just a junk food junkie, so I am wondering if my portion sizes being small might be restricting my weightloss? Any opinions on quantities? Do you lose more if you eat more?

A not so subtle tax!! I wonder if we charge US Citizens. It's going to cost us $70 at $14 each and last year the guys ignored them!! They only asked us for them here and then they didn't read them - just asked if we'd done it! Thanks for the confirmation.

Two teenagers almost finished. We paid 7500 for top and bottom - inclusive of retainers - 500 per month until all is paid then nothing until done. Only extra we paid was some extractions at the beginning. Consult and xrays, photos etc is free at beginning. Very pleased with treatment and results from the University.

So if my kid takes his Iphone when we go on holiday - for the games and Apps (he won't be calling anyone) will we be getting a huge bill? Can I turn off the account by removing the sim card? Will he be able to continue to play? Can I connect it to the Wifi connection we have at our home over there without incurring huge bills with etisalat? DH will go spare if he incurs big bills and I really don't understand it. I have turned off the data etc that was mentioned in this thread - what else can I do to protect myself from his phone??

Agree with MM - I fast forward through Jacob. He makes me cringe. Like a drag queen but without the drag. I thought his comment about America not being able to look themselves in the mirror and his low score having nothing to do with his perfomance was arrogant. Get over yourself! Loved Pia to listen to but she was boring to watch (DH would disagree). Thought she'd be one of the last. Paul is fun and quirky and you can easily identify his voice which makes him stand out. Love Casey's talent but his singing is actually pretty average. James is good. Nice to see he's cut down on the screeching. Scotty is gonna make it regardless and every performance seems like it could have come off a disc. Stefano has a nice voice and Haley and Lauren too but I think this year has more contestants with potential than some other years. I think regardless of who wins, we are going to be hearing more from a few of these guys in the future. Steven Tyler was better in the earlier rounds. He's not as funny as he was!

WOW. I just wanted to know how much is a reasonable amount for spending money for a teenager! FYI My son didn't ask for extra for babysitting his brothers and would do it without payment, but we appreciate that is saves us nanny fees and so he gets to share the benefit. He also has to stay home when sometimes he would rather be out with his friends or playing in the park in order to watch his brothers for me. We are not talking regular babysitting either, one of his brothers is disabled. He is my right hand man when his dad is out at work, we have no maid and he does more than your average teenager should ever have to. Are we bribing him? Is he a brat? All my kids help out at home, without payment, and my pre teen gets only 15 dhs a week which he can either spend on sweets or drinks or save up to buy games or something. Just spending money really. He doesn't go out with friends without an adult yet so doesn't need any more. I resent the suggestion that my kids are either spoiled expat brats or mercenary but I suppose I should have expected that a simple question would result in judgement. edited by Teabag on 07/04/2011

My 15 year old babysits for us so he earns his pocket money. He uses it to buy stuff I think he doesn't need - like more playstation games (!) and for extra outings if he goes more than a couple of times a month. He saves it and is quite careful with it, unlike his younger siblings who go shopping looking for things to buy! I am thinking ahead to college, and getting him to budget and to watch his own bottom line, so I want to give him a reasonable allowance that he is completely responsible for and which I don't have to subsidize aqs I do at present. I am thinking 100dhs/week and see how we go.

Ah hah! I did wonder - it seemed too good to be true!! I will have to load a couple onto the USB and then pop into virgin and see if I can convince them to let me try! I don't have the Ipad yet and we are flying on his birthday!! I will need a USB converter too.

Fabulous thanks! Do I just copy them onto the USB through the computer and then access them and play? I am going to be loading them onto the USB with our desktop windows system for my son to use with his Ipad (which he will be getting for his birthday the day we fly!) and is this possible or will there be some kind of non-compatability glitch? I am a bit out of touch with Apple - the last one I had was when I worked for them in the 80's and although I loved it - everyone thought they were going out of business!!

I remember a friend of mine who had exactly this problem. This was 20 plus years ago but the doc put her on some tablets which dried it up. I can't remember what they were called but they basically increased the amount of melatonin (?) in her skin. She was scandinavian pale by birth but had a beautiful tan while on the pills!! Sorry - can't help on the dermatologist but there are solutions out there.

Until you find out it's illegal!! Going back to the original poster - I have to agree with not hiring maids illegally - what if they hurt themselves or something - the poor sponsor is responsible for them - too tricky by far. Anyway I've put my tuppence in - I have to go do the stuff I don't have a maid for... Editted to add: I am not complaining about the rules AmyAus - I just want to be clear what they are!! edited by Teabag on 22/03/2011

Baloo - I'm not touching that one! I have another point though - What about the maid who are legally sponsored but have hubby living in maid room with them, who does odd jobs/car cleaning etc in return for being allowed to live there - is this not also payment in kind? See what I mean by grey areas??
