I know it's not just me! Everyone hates banks here they are all useless and as bad as each other. It's been hours nd I'm still fuming. I don't know why, since every time we do anything with the bank it is screwed up and I rally shouldn't be surprised. I think it's being treated as second class that I object to. edited by Teabag on 17/04/2012

It just make me so angry because I feel they are trying to tie us in legal knots. We are already too late to give notice to quit since we had no intention of moving, so now they are saying we have to sign it. I don't want to! We are signing away any rights as tenants and the management company are really taking the mickey. There is actually a clause there saying we agree not to speak to the landlord directly under penalty! Seriously?

It also states that we legally have ONE allocated parking space (we have a dual carport!) and have been given one remote for the compound gate, with instructions to purchase a second if we need it for dhs500! For the last 6 years we had 2 remotes, but they just changed the mechanism.

18 and 16 year olds get 500 per month, to include phone, metro, entertainment and any outside food not sanctioned by me! 11 year old gets 30 per week and entertainment paid by me as he is still supervised. Everyone gets a complete wardrobe overhaul each year, in the summer holidays, any additional fashion items they have to purchase from their money. The older boys also do odd jobs as they come up, and all have deductions if chores are not done! I'm with you highland lass! They can eat Lunch boxes or not - they choose but no alternative, although I do occasionally give them 15dhs to spend in the school cafe, VERY occasionally!

We have an edge, our second. Love it. Fab resale value, lots of storage space and big enough back seat for three big teenagers! Service is SZR near times square for me which is really easy.

Spray shaving foam on kitchen workroom and let him draw, or rice on a tray. Put on some loud music and dance. Build a fort with bedding. Make pictures with glue and pasta/rice/coffe beans, anything you have around. Make some mini snacks and watch a movie. Have a tea party.

We couldn't make it this year because one of the kids was heading off on an international school trip and we didn't have time. Hearing this I am pleased we missed it. We have two small dogs and the kids would have been devastated to see this. I won't be telling them either.

I live in Barsha and pick up after the dogs. The guys building the roads who pee on the wall of our compound and squat to p@@ in the ditch don't pick up after themselves, or even seem perturbed to be noticed by western woman when all equipment is out and airing.... Sometimes I wonder WHY I pick up after the dog...

Zoeesta, Apologies. I have never heard of this before today. Don't understand levels and equivalents. What is level 2 business likely to set you up for? Can you study other things at uni, assuming you get a place, than business or would my 15 year old be choosing NOW to go into business as a career? He wants to be a physiotherapist possibly smoothing in design or maybe go into marketing (basically he hasn't a clue)

Sorry! But from what I have read online, level 2 is like 2 a levels? What uni will accept this? Business course.

But level 2 is equivalent to 2 a levels? What university would accept that? Is it recognize anywhere outside uk? I am very confused. Already trying to choose between a levels and IB, now offered btec level 2, though letter from school is unclear as to whether this is alongside other things since it is business only or is taking child along direction straight to business and takes away all other options. We are not from uk and want option to choose college elsewhere if he wants to, don't want to limit him now and if it is only 2 alvels is that not lower than IB certificate? I have never heard of this course and know nothing about it. edited by Teabag on 26/01/2012

The sad thing is, I was really getting into using SnS and this experience has really put me off. I have order a dozen or so times in the last two months, and have a load more shopping I would like to do. We are us based but I am originally from uk. I have not been to Europe in 10 years and this gave me a way to shop "back home" that I didn't think I'd get to do again! I would hate not to be able to use it any more!

I checked my mail and I sent them the correct invoice on 25th December and it cleared cut ms here 29th December. Someone didn't follow up with this package and get the information right. After various emails and phone calls, not returned, they tried to tell me US CUSTOMS had re-evaluated the item as $365 before it left the states. Like us customs would be interested in a sweatshirt leaving the country. I sure they have better things to do! Sorry for the ramble but I'm p!553d and need to rant!

I have been corresponding with alas for a month. I had a $40 sweatshirt stopped at customs because it had been valued by SnS new York at $365. Despite sending copies of invoice to alaa on christmas day, they tried to deliver it on new years eve, with 173dhs customs duty plus 41dhs delivery. I called them after I got the SMS and they assured me it was a mistake and they would contact the driver. Who tried to charge me 214dhs. I refused. Contacted alas again, and again, and am waiting to have a return call. Still no package. Wouldn't be any good to me now anyway, it was a gift for my uncle's 70th birthday, on January 9th. What's worse I paid the shipper $13 extra to have it express delivered to NY!

We have had a couple of rough years recently, with redundancies etc and only in the last year or year and a half have we started having anything over, despite being seriously frugal. We are paying off debts to family members first, and should be done with that by March. After that we should be saving about 10%, which may not seem like a lot but we have 3 kids and pay everything ourselves, even sponsorship and medical in the children's cases!

That's us! Thanks for that Suze. We got no letter offering an incentive to move. First we heard we'd been moved already. The letter I got states we will be going onto 4.79% in march, no question. Gonna move it, on prInciple. Also withdrawing from 40+ years with a Bank of Ireland current and savings accounts. Voting with my feet!

SVR, we are in the last few years of 25 year term. Bank of Ireland who closed down some of their mortgage business to lessen their exposure to the uk market. We were chosen because we "fit the criteria" but I have no idea what the criteria is, And we have been transferred to something called "the 'Mortgage Works" which is part of Nationwide so they assure us our money is safe!! We have never missed a payment, or even been late, in 20 years and this is the first mention of a rate change.

We have a uk mortgage, have had for 20 years. Recently the bank sent us a letter saying they had to pass some of their mortgqges onto another company and that ours was one of those randomly selected to be moved but that it would not be a problem, all was going to be handled for us and we could not opt out of this but that we didn't need to do anything. Today I get a letter from the new company who have taken over the mortgage giving us spiel about how wonderful they are and details of our new account number etc. Also, that there will No longer be reference to the blah blah mortgage rate at 2.99% which we have been under but it will now be called the dum du do dah rate at 4.75%!!! As a concession(!) they won't start us on the new rate until the end of March. Really p****d off. How can they just change it, without giving us an option, and then up the rate by 75%?? Advice?

Just out of interest, I'm thinking ahead, what do homelypetz charge? I have two toy dogs, live in Barsha and am thinking about the summer (24 days when dh is away). We have always had friends do it before but I am thinking of using a professional team this year.

Had another call from another representative. He tells me there are customs charges of 173dhs, according to their other office. I said I know, but there shouldn't be. He said he knows nothing about that. Customer service, very helpful. He has now gone to check with the other office to find out what is going on. Anybody had unnecessary customs charges removed? What's worse is it's not for me, I ordered this on behalf of my pensioner parents, I don't want to incur these costs for them.

Spoke to SnS last week and sent copy of invoice. Spoke to them again this morning. She said the value they have on their books is $365, to which I pointed out that I'd discussed it last week with someone else and unless it was gold plated it had a much lower value. She agreed to call the driver with the correct charges. We will see when he arrives!

Done this, from here to USA and an apple iMac the other way. We put tv in bubble wrap in hard side suitcase. iMac travelled in box in semi-hard suitcase. They were both fine. Make sure not to pack anything that can puncture the wrap in with it, and that there is no pressure on the "spine" of the tv if weight is put on the top of the case.

Thinking about it. Also looking at Casablanca. We currently have our own pool and want to get away from the cost of maintaining that and move somewhere that has a shared pool that is actually big enough to swim in. We like Barsha 1 though as an area. Alternatively we would go for somewhere with no pool but with outside space for my sons, possibly Barsha 2 or 3 but within walking distance of the mall.

The golf range finder tells you how far to hit the ball, for instance on a par5 how hard to hit to place the ball ready for the next shot, and therefore helps with choosing the correct club. Professionals use them so I guess it is something weekend warriors would want.... He has everything else....

Don't put a cake covered in ready to roll (fondant) icing in the fridge, it will sweat. You can if it is royal icing. If you are using fondant icing, store in a cool dry area. Fruit cake, if properly convered in icing and sealed, can actually last years... So I am told... Ours never last that long!

We use a family password, though not so much now my kids are teens! We had one friend who didn't require the password (godparent) who was also our emergency contact for the school. Also, all my kids are boys so I couldn't take them to the public toilets so they had to count loudly whilst I stood in the doorway. Never forget seeing Oprah show where child was murdered in toilets at park while aunt stood 30ft away. If the counting stops, in I go!
