Thank you all for your replies. My main concern is that most of the polyunsaturated oils are unstable and prone to oxidation. Heating these oils makes it worse.... I've also read how these oils can lead to increase in free radicals in the body which in turn, are responsible for immune problems, cancer, heart disease, etc. Also, these oils are generally GM. Butter, coconut oil and olive oil seem to be better (from what I've read, although I can't get myself to use coconut oil or butter for cooking). Of course, 10 years from now, we'll be told something else... I wonder if there ever will be a general consensus on what's healthy and what's not!

you can go to Arte's facebook page and ask this question. Maybe the vendor who makes these kind of bracelets will answer back. If not, surely someone else will be able to help you out there. Also, it is summer and quite a few of the vendors may be away on holiday.

I've always liked KLM - polite crew, nice food (I usually cannot eat airplane food) and good leg room. I've only flown Emirates while travelling to India and it's okay - hardly any leg room though...

Maybe you can get an appointment date in November for Dr. Amel and also ask them to keep you on a waiting list - in case someone cancels, they may call you? In the meantime, see another endocrinologist (there are some other names mentioned on EW here). If you don't mind venturing into Bur Dubai, I know a few people who go to Dr. Prakash Pania at the Aster clinic in Bur Dubai and are happy with him. http://www.doctor-dubai.com/dr_info_display.asp?dr_id=368 My suggestion would be to get the appointment with Dr. Amel (for November) and go see Dr. Prakash - if you think he's good, then stick with him. If not, at least you have the appointment in November to fall back on.... I personally have been going to Dr. Amel, but I know someone who's gone to both doctors and she says they're both good.

I don't know if this will help, but I remember reading an article in the new Gulf News Health supplement (it's out ever thursday - so you can search for it) about a lady Anne Cook who was diagnosed with MS and how she tried alternative medicine which helped her. She's now a therapist here in Dubai: http://www.thehealingzone.net/ Just want to add that I've never seen her (and am not advertising), so don't know if whatever she suggests will work or not, but I see no harm in trying different options. Good luck.

If you try asking this question on the gluten free UAE facebook page, you'll probably get an answer as there are quite a few people on that page from all over UAE and maybe other Arab countries as well. Also, try contacting the gluten free supermarket - I think they deliver internationally.... although not sure how expensive the shipping costs will get. http://www.glutenfree-supermarket.ae/index.php Good luck.

Just google "mercury in skin whitening creams" and you'll get loads of websites about the harmful effects of these creams. Also, there are quite a few indian advertisements that show how being fair (after using these creams) will get you your dream job, award, husband, etc. Too much discrimination because of skin color and sadly this is within the Indian community. <em>edited by terrible_twos on 06/06/2012</em>

You'll find gluten free flour in the organic food and cafe in Dubai Mall and in the Greens. I'm not sure about whole wheat pastry flour - maybe most supermarkets or even the organic food and cafe may have some?

The best area to stay in Amsterdam is Dam Square - that's the central point with the Central station just minutes away, plus the canal rides that can connect you to most tourist points. Also there are loads of cafes and restaurants in that area. We stayed in a 3-star hotel (can't remember the name now). The Annie Frank house and quite a few museums and the red light district are all within walking distance. We took the Euro rail from Amsterdam to Brussels... it's a lovely scenic ride. In Brussels we stayed at the Marriott which is just a few minutes walk from the Grand Place (again a good area to stay as here are loads of cafes and restaurants within walking distance) and walking distance to the trains. I agree with the others that Brugges is a lovely place. we took a day tour to brugges and Ghent. Brugges is a nice tourist place and if you get a chance to sta there, you must. By the way, Belgium is good place to shop as it's much cheaper compared to Amsterdam (our 3 star hotel in Amsterdam cost us more than the 5 star Marriott hotel in Brussels). Also, there's a mini europe in Brussels - similar to the Madurodam in Amsterdam. We skipped the madurodam and went to mini Europe. Hope you enjoy your stay!

If this was an intolerance test, then maybe you should get yourself tested for celiac disease.... as already mentioned here, celiac disease can lead to many other intolerances as well. But once you eliminate gluten, you should slowly be able to include the other foods (like milk, eggs, etc.) back into your diet. Check out the www.glutenfree-supermarket.ae - you'll find quite a large range of products - some of which are gluten, lactose, eggs-free. But most of them will probably have rice.... but you can still check as each product listed on the website also includes the ingredient list. Maybe you can discuss your results with a nutritionist who will be able to guide you better. Good luck!

Another thumbs up for Dr. Amel El Tayeb. As MC mentioned, you'll probably have to wait about 2 months to get your first appointment with him, but once you do that, you'll get regular appointments as and when required.

Started Wed...fever but not too high. vomitted wed night fine on thursday and went to school Thursday afternoon fever again but higher, vomitted thursday night Friday high feve all day, Fri night fever very high 39.5 Sat morning fever and now calpol is not bringing it down. She is refusing to take nurofen. no idea why I am posting this..just at end of tether I could have written this myself but DS started on Tuesday afternoon, he went to school fine on Wednesday, then on Thursday when I collected him he was touching 39 again. Now DD has the same since yesterday. Another friend said her DD had it for 5 days, no infection. Very strange. Both mine seem totally fine apart from a temp. My Ds seems to be getting better now though, may pop to Dr's later just incase, but I don't like being prescribed stuff if its not needed so am reluctant unless fever is to high. Also, most meds have gluten in them (DD Celiac) so its very tricky, lol edited by Purple on 07/04/2012 If she needs a paracetamol, then maybe Panadol would be okay (I've been told it's gluten free, but you may want to double check that).

Nadiya, it almost sounds like brain fog - which many times can be caused by food allergies/intolerances or hypoglycemia or maybe even vitamins/minerals deficiencies. Try visiting your GP. Hi terrible_twos - now that sounds about right...I know that I suffer from food allergies but never tried having a test to know which ones...as the allergies werent severe (no skin issues) but would bloat in general I thought it may be normal, but I am convinced I have allergies...i guess its worth checking this side out...do you know where i can have an accurate allergy test done? I've never done an allergy or food intolerance test, so don't know which is accurate. I've read on EW that the clinic in Dubai Mall do this test and that Dr. Heather Eade there is very good. She's a naturopath, so she should be able to help you out with your other symptoms as well. Do a search on EW for allergy/food intolerance test and you'll come up with some recommendations.

I am using wi-fi and have deleted & re-installed twice. I've even downloaded it to Dh's laptop and we still have the same problem. It's infuriating! Everyone seems to be playing it but me, lol,. Oh well, I'm going to email the developers now. Yes, I am that desperate! (and I paid .69p!) Mine's stuck on getting ready again...... quite annoying! Let us know if you get a reply from the developers! Thanks.

hiccup, firstly, pat yourself on the back for taking the first step of admitting you have a problem and seeing a therapist. You've got some wonderful advice already, so I just want to add that - apart from seeing the therapist, please do visit your GP and check if you have a thyroid problem (underactive thyroid can cause depression). Also, check if you are deficient in any vitamins as this could also contribute (especially since you've mentioned being on a diet). It's best you consult with the GP to find out what specifc vitamins and supplements will help rather than taking a multi-vitamin. If you do a search on here, you'll come up with some suggestions on GP (you'd want to go to one who listens to your problems instead of dismissing them). Sending best wishes and hope you get the right guidance and help.
