i was wondering what consequences employer will bear if labour card was not obtained for an employee who is already working a few months for a company. Well if the MOL comes in - they will get a huge fine Would the OP get into trouble for working without a labor card? Or is it just the company that bears the responsibility only? It is the employers responsibility to get it, so not sure that employee will be fined or whatever! But also won't the company get a ban then I was caught by the MOL, i was told by them it was 10 thousand fine and 1 months in prison for me. Its a new company and the owner pleaded with them -lucky for me they said they didn't want to see me there again without a work permit and to leave immediately .

Yes it is available on prescription - its a controlled drug. My niece lives with us and has Fibromyalgia - she is prescribed Tramadol for the pain. We have to provide proof of ID at the pharmacy.

James Cargo Services are UK based. They were recommended to us by DKC when we moved back to the UK.

Hi, we used James Cargo Services when we returned to the UK and then when we came back to Dubai 3 years later. They were really good.

I second what Sue said - email all the vets. I work at one in Dubai, and we have clients from all over town and beyond - even Al Ain. I would be happy to email them for you - i have all the addresses saved and there are more than you think.

I renewed 2 passports in June and they were back within 10 days. The old passports came separately - i panicked and rang them as they weren't returned , and i asked them how come they had done it so quickly and they said this is a quiet time for them.

Hi, i work at a vets in Dubai. All you need is for the vaccinations to be up to date and more than a month old, the vaccination book, and the third country certificate completed by your vet and the Municipality vet at the Cargo Village. The certificate can be downloaded from the DEFRA site, but your vet has probably got one. No blood test is needed. Unless the microchip details and date of implant are in your vaccination book then i would ask your vet to do a letter saying when this was implanted, and that it was implanted prior to the rabies vaccination . We get asked to do this letter by DKC and Alison from the Doghouse all the time. Please don't sedate the cats - as said before its very dangerous. Its a long flight and there is no-one there to help them if they are ill. Re the comments about rabies vaccinations - they have to be done every year here, it isn't just the vets trying to make money. The Municipality insist on it - and they are informed every 2 weeks (or should be) by every vet the details of all cats and dogs vaccinated and the tag numbers. Lots of people don't bother with vaccinations- but then if you have to leave with not much notice you can run into problems.

According to the DEFRA website there are very few airlines that are authorised to go to manchester - and none that fly direct from here. We had to fly our cats in via Heathrow and then James Cargo Services delivered them to the midlands- at a cost. Most of the airlines can only go to Heathrow or Gatwick. When we flew back here the cats flew from Manchester to Heathrow, and then onto here - all with British Airways as Emirates wont fly persians and other exotic breeds.

Hi all, my cat has gone missing. She is a 6 month old calico arabian mau , wearing a black collar with municipality tag on it. We have a communal garden in our compound and she was out last night - disappeared about 8pm. Ive done a poster for all the neighbours as she could have gone in one of their villas - but nothing so far. My worry is that she has got out of the compound when someone left . All the vets and DM have been told. Her brother is going mad pacing around the house looking for her :( Thanks

You can just get a new one - your vet may charge for it though - we do. If you have always used the same vet then they can put in all the vaccinations your dog has ever had with them , or start from scratch. The only country that i have heard of that requires years and years of vaccination records to import an animal is Japan, most only want to know that the animal is vaccinated and those vaccinations are current.

There is a product called Stronghold which is very similar to Frontline but it also kills worms (but not tapeworms), and other parasites. It lasts about a month, and can be bought at Vets.

I have 2 kids, one at DESS and one at DESC. My school run starts at 7am in Jumeirah 1, off to DESC, then DESS, then back home and then off to work. Repeat at lunchtime, and i easily spend 2 1/2 to 3 hours a day driving plus working a split shift of 6 hours. Its not easy at all, but the kids are happy. Cant really move closer when the schools are so far apart- i can get to DESS in 10 mins and DESC in about 20 from where we are. Its just a shame that DH hasnt quite got used to the fact im now working and just rolls over when the alarm goes off!

Hi, you wont get anywhere with Emirates - they dont fly persians. I flew 2 persians back to the UK in 2005 using Dubai Kennels and Cattery and it cost just over 9000 dhs using BA to Heathrow. The flights for the cats were more than the flights for the kids!

hi Unfortunately you have to subscribe and pay for most of the websites. The ones i use are www.ancestry.co.uk, www.findmypast.com, www.genesreunited.com and www.rootschat.com. They do have special offers at times so its worth checking. On most of them you can do so many free searches, and if you join Rootschat you will get loads of help. Its free, and you can find other people also researching the same names and also search by county. There are other free sites in the uk - but they tend to be specific to a county so you need to know where your family originated. Not sure how far back you have information but the latest census available in the UK is 1911 - if you can get back that far its easy. I have subscriptions to most of them and would be happy to help - its a major hobby of mine.

Baloo, what does your Pet Passport look like? Is it a blue book that also has details of the vaccinations? If so you can just change the name on it - the details are not registered anywhere other than your vets. The microchip does not hold any information at all about you, previous owners or vaccinations, or its maker. If the microchip was registered by the first owners when they had it implanted then you need to know which company they registered it with to change the details. The only people here who have details of it are the municipality and the vets you use so if your dog goes missing go to the municipality and contact all the vets asap. As an example of how useless international databases are - my 3 cats are registered with a database called Petlog in the UK - they have my phone number here - no address obviously - but when cat no 1 went missing and was found by a local vets they rehomed her despite her being registered with the municipality and Petlog. (and i did contact the municiaplity and vets - just not that particular vets) :( To travel you need up to date vaccinations and depending where you are going the Rabies certificate. If the previous owners have already got this and you have kept the rabies vaccinations completely up to date then the details on the certificate can be changed - for a small fee - i would speak to your vet about this.

My daughter is at DESC, in year 11. She loves it, is really happy, and is doing very well academically. The facilities are constantly being improved as the school grows and the food is excellent apparently!

Hi Baloo If you keep the vaccinations up to date then Dubai municipality will always have details of the microchip number and your contact details. If you want to register the chip on a worldwide database then there are a few to choose from - and you will be relying on a vet knowing all the databases out there and contacting them if they find an animal - which is not going to happen. There is a company in Dubai who have set up a database for the UAE - their address is http://www.aniworldbase.com/Default.aspx , it costs $28 to register or you can do it at Vet clinics in Dubai if you prefer to pay in Dirhams. In my opinion, the only reason the chip would need to be changed is if you were moving to a country that didnt recognise the chip currently inserted, but even in those cases you can sometimes get around it by buying a chip reader and sending it with the cat/dog if you moved. I work at a vets , and if a microchipped animal is found we ring around all the vets first, then try the municipality and aniworldbase. In the 8 months i have worked there i have only been able to find the owners of 2 animals and that was only because they had been vaccinated at our clinic . Sadly in both cases we hadnt been notified by the owners that they were missing.

You can buy Frontline here, and Stronghold but only at vets i think. There are vets open tomorrow -Al Barsha, Blue oasis, Pet Connection and Al Safa. Maybe ring first to see if they have any as we had 5 people come in today where i work to buy Frontline as other vets were out of stock. We import it from the uk and our order is late so maybe the other vets are having the same problem. There are separate packs for dogs and cats and the dosage depends on the weight of the animal. You will have to do all 4 im afraid.

Hi, Does she want to do it herself or use a relocation company? No Vet in Dubai can help really till she gets here. I have experience of importing cats to Dubai from the UK and i used James Cargo on the UK side and Dubai Kennels and Cattery on the Dubai side. Both companies were excellent, but it cost a lot of money. Another thing to ask is what breed of dog is it - some are banned here see http://www.skycargo.com/ourservices/animalCare/animalcare.asp for animals flying with Emirates and http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/government/banned-dogs-list-to-come-into-effect-1.220005 The breeds of dog banned article is really old, but i have seen something recently which was very similar - i dont think the breeds have changed. However - i know of people with Rottweilers, staffordshire bulls, Huskies and Bull dogs all of which have been imported recently - some within the last 2 months or so, so how strict are the rules!

Tel no 04 3429948. The first time we used them they offered to deliver the stuff back but its easier for us to collect.
