If you are arriving after late Jan I think it is easier. There is a cut offf time (I can't remember the date in Jan) that children in Dubai cannot move schools within Dubai. So if someone who has a place in a good school in Dubai leaves, that place can only be filled with someone new arriving into Dubai. They do not allow transfers within schools in Dubai after January. We arrived in late March (many years ago) and got a place at JPS in Year 3 and FS2 which people said was impossible, only because someone had left at Easter time and they couldn't fill the place. I also know children that have managed to get a place at Kings for the same reason.

You may find the rug shop will deliver it to you. If you metro, which is much easier and you find a rug just pop back later and pick it up. Parking is definitely a hassle. There is paid parking at the Hyatt Regency but that is a little walk back, a taxi from the Hyatt to souk is about 8-10hds I think. Again you could park there and if you find a rug, pick it up on your way home.

I have never heard of that either. We moved many years ago now, but relocated in March and a British school took us (JPS). No problems at all.

3rd time lucky that doesn;t sound right. Check what the cut off ages of the children are for each year. The British curriculum is a 13 year program unlike Australia which is 12 years, so there should only be a change of 1 year. We moved in April (many years ago) my son had just started prep in Melbourne in Feb and moved to FS2 in Dubai, my other son was just starting Year 3 and moved to Year 3 in Dubai. Although when they joined this was the last term of the year opposed to Australia which was the start of the school year. My son in FS2 found it very difficult because school here they already could count, knew alphabet and some could read! But it all works itself out and he was fine. I think you also need a transfer certificate signed from your school in Australia.

I agree with Stix, choose a nice primary school in the area you are living. There are a lot of good public schools. Are you staying permanently. If so I would just choose the Australian system. IB will be useful if you are moving again. This website may assist you can see each school NAPLAN results which is compulsary testing across all schools. http://www.myschool.edu.au Where will you be living.

Hi, sorry I used Cara's and they made a gold ring for me, I only has the diamond from my grandmothers ring,(my sister kept the setting) it cost 1300dhs. My husband changed his wedding band from yellow gold to white gold and they used his existing gold and added white gold it was 200dhs. They can use your existing gold, when melted down it won't weigh exactly the same. Just go down to the gold and diamond park, select a style you like of take them a picture and they will quote you a figure based on using your exisiting ring. I cannot fault Kieran at Cara's, I also see Viju or Roger, they have custom made 3 rings for me and 3 pendants. I have purchased 3 rings, 5 pairs earrings and a diamond bracelet and never had a problem.(not all for me!) One ring them remade 3 times as I chaned my mind and it wasn't right.

I think this rule still applies after January KHDA have a cut off so no children within Dubai can move to another school within Dubai, so if people leave, the places can only be filled with people from overseas. This may be an option, but you would still need to be on the waitlist to be offered a place. son2mum10 if they are moving now they won't have the luxury to pick and choose schools, they will just need to take what they can get. edited by TimTam on 04/09/2014

Guiness2 my son is wheat and dairy intolerant. When we do pasta I buy the Schar brand from carrefour, found it to be the best one and tastes great, unlike some pastas that turn to mush. We have rice, risotto, potato. You can Bob Mills Gluten free oats at organic cafe which are great. Greengodess Dr Rolef is wonderful, even if she is fully booked tell them to call you if she has a cancellation, we got in to see her within a week due to cancellation. Good luck

I always put in physical address, Aramex will only deliver to an address anyway. I never had any problems and I have used them for over 8 years on Dubai. My order could sometimes take up to 3 weeks, so don't panic if it isn;t there after 1 week. It also depends on what you order, shampoo and conditioner sometimes too up to 3 weeks, most makeup 2 weeks. Good luck edited by TimTam on 04/09/2014

The childrens water play area at Mirdiff city centre is fun for little ones. You could also take them to Bounce the indoor trampolines, not sure what time they have for little people. Unfortunately everything costs, not cheap to entertain kids. Just checked mini bouncers age 3-5 are 10 and 11am, over 5 or 110cm are the same time. Www.bounce.ae you need to book. edited by TimTam on 28/08/2014

Hi Coco14, here is my 5 cents worth. Call the schools, or get your husband to go there.Don't email as you are just another email and they get so many. Is your son that is in Year 10 and child in Year 8 academic, if so they may get a place at Dubai College, depending on space and any last minute leavers. Jumeirah College, English College also great. (In that order) Friends have children at WSO but obviuosly in a totally different area. Also now hard to get into due to depand in that area. DESC is only a few minutes from WSO. It may also be hard to get a place for all children in WSO. If you got DC, JC or EC you could look at Kings Umm Sequim, JPS, Horizon, Wellington, Star for Primary school. JESS I doubt you would get. I would try and sort your Year 10 and 8 first, then if possible find a primary school close by. There is also Dubai British School (DBS) Primary/secondary, good from what friends say and their kids are happy. My children went to JPS and JC. Another option is Repton or Gems World Academy but that is IB. Depending on how long you are here and if you are moving to another place IB might be worth considering. Good luck, Dubai is not the easiest place to sort schooling, I had 2 friends that had 3 children in 3 different schools! It is very stressful now but you will get something sorted. Just hang in there. edited by TimTam on 28/08/2014

I was also told I had low progesterone, but decided not to take them. I asked what the downside was if I didn't take them and the doctor said I would sleep as well and my cycle may not be as regular. Well I sleep just fine without them and not bothered about the other. Who is your doctor? We probably have the same one :)

katt_007 are you a Canadian passport holder or just a resident as that is different? Visa requirements for visiting countries is based on your passport not your residency. You can use Emirates online visa tool to check requirements. http://www.emirates.com/ae/english/plan_book/essential_information/visa_passport_information/find_visa_requirements/find_visa_requirements.aspx

You should be able to get it at any of the health food/vitamin shops. I have only seen it here in capsule form, not sure where I bought it, but I tend to shop at Mirdiff City Centre and Dubai Mall, so it would have been one of those. Try Dubai Mall as you have a few choices, the shop just inside the door near waitrose, or the life pharmacy next to Waitrose or Holland and Barrett store opposite West Elm may have it. It was in a green bottle.

Personally I don't think it's worth it. We all have our own accounts to collect miles (DH, me and 2 kids) We just let the miles accumulate over time then redeem a flight, but we only usually fly Emirates. If you hardly fly them it may be worth taking the 20%. DH is gold and we are silver, doesn't matter you are different tiers.

Haven't been in a few months but there is no party section as such. You would need to look in some of the toy stores for bits, there are some sticker and tattoo shops, hair shops for head bands etc for girls, toy shops with balls, kites etc all quite cheap. Near the lamp section is also the shop that sells the chiffon bags and gift bags that you can put things in.

Unfortunately I don't have many positives for you.My very good friend lived there with her family for a few years and they found it very difficult. Hard to find expat groceries, even things as simple as self raising flour or food that wasn't out of date. There are a couple of expat supermarkets to get things, but they sell out of things very fast. From memory it was called Jenny Lou's so I googled it for you http://www.jennylou.com.cn/index.php?main_page=page&id=8 Their children were at Beijing International school which they really liked, but commute in traffic was quite long. Pollution very very bad and hardly any english spoken so you would need a driver or learn some simple words, to help when catching taxis. Positive- culturally enriching! edited by TimTam on 18/03/2014

Are you in Australia or here? If you're in Australia it's really easy to do yourself, otherwise I don't have anyone here sorry. I had to take it to a notary, who made a copy and signed it as true and original, this certified copy then went to DFAT, then to UAE embassy. The original never left my sight.

It's always very divided, some photographers love Canon and others love Nikon. Go and have a look at both in the stores and go with the one you like best, I don't think you will go wrong. My husband is a Nikon man through and through and loves his camera, where are his friend loves Canon, both will take excellent shots. It might be worth doing a course with Gulf photo so you learn to use it properly and get the best shots.
