I have quartz at home and my mum has Corian. As Bomali said it's lovely, and I like the fact you can put hot things on it. Mum isn't really happy with her Corian, it shows scratch marks and you can't put hot things on it. If price is similar, go quartz

I only buy organic eggs, either from Organic store or Greenheart. (yes Greenhearts are small) They are a lot more expensive than standard eggs in the supermarket but my personal preference is for my family to eat organic where possible, just because they are free of additives, hormones and antibiotics. <em>edited by TimTam on 04/09/2013</em>

Izzyontheseat, call Rashad as he is often in Dubai and may pick them up, might even be worth paying for pickup to save the trouble of going to Sharjah. He came to our place twice when we bought the rugs.

I found HSBC here useless. So I called Jersey HSBC, they called me straight back, set up the account for me, emailed me all the documents and all I needed to do was drop off the signed docs to a branch here. I've had no problems at all.

I know Eton offer conversational classes, also check International House and the British Council. Not sure if Higher College of Technology in Academic city offer them, but you could also check there. These are all well respected institutes. You are right, speaking and writing are very different. When I was teaching, students found speaking more difficult as speaking is instant and spontaneous, you don't get a long time to think about your answer and construct your sentence correctly, where as with writing you have time to think about it, check grammer, spell check and even google correct sentence structure. <em>edited by TimTam on 30/08/2013</em>

Roxrox you asked about specialists the other day on another thread. I'm sure you will get the same responses. Dr Ursula Rolef http://healthbayclinic.com/dr-ursula-rolef.html and Dr Loubser (who is an allegist/paediatrician) http://www.ihcdubai.com/doctors/michael-loubser/ Both these doctors are highly regarded and have been recommended here many times.

Like others have said it could be something else other than an intolerance, sometimes these tests can show a false positive. We have been through all this also. We see Dr Ursula Rolef at Healthbay Polyclininc in Al Wasl Rd and as others have said, she is excellent. She ran celiac, lactose intolerance testing, stool testing and also did an ultrsound to check for parasites. I have spoken to a few parents at school who have had similar cases and it ended up being a parasite. For us it was lactose and wheat intolerance (not celiac) but he's made excellent progres and can now tolerate wheat in small amounts but still not lactose. But we'll get there. I have also heard wonderful things about Dr Loubser, we went with Dr Rolef as out of the 2 of them Dr Rolef was the one we could get an appointment with sooner. I don't think you could go wrong with either of these doctors. Good luck.

We had 2 nights as we were travelling with our children. We went from Amman to Petra in the afternoon, I really wanted to do the night tour to the Treasury which was lovely. I think the evening tours are Mon, Wed, Thur if you are there. Then the next day we went early and spent the whole day there. Most people just do the day there and 1 night. But this worked for us. Make sure your passport is not stamped in Israel if you are returning to the UAE, just to save yourself any hassels.

We don't like to list on here websites as they get blocked. You will need a file sharing software like utorrent, bitlord or bittorrent which may get complicated for you. I virus scan everything I download. It might be worth looking into doing a course, I know Jumeirah Primary run apple courses which go through the basics or using itunes, ipads etc. You will probably find people discussing where they download things from in the course.

I buy Lancome and sometimes the packaging is the Canadian or US branded product packaging. Which I know anyway from purchasing when I have been there. Never had a product out of date/expired. Sometimes they sell things on larger discount and you may find they are close to expiry date but never had a problem with that either. Buy something small to start with and see if you are happy.

TA's tend to wear pants and shirt or nice t-shirt and cardigans. Some also wear knee length skirts/dresses with shoulders covered. Depends what age children you are working with, if it's small children and you are down on the floor with them, pants may be more comfortable. Also don't wear expensive things, again with small children they will spill paint etc on you. I've worked in FS1, FS2 and come home with all sorts on my clothes, especially during free play when they are playing with water, paint, sand, playdoh and goo! There is no need to wear a suit.

Is that your only option as it is a long distance to your chldrens school and you will get sick of the driving. At the moment with not much traffic and considering schools are not back it would take you about 1/2hour or so. I'm sure much longer when school starts as the Oud Metha area gets quite congested in the mornings.

I'm currently looking at cruises in April from Miami. It depends on what you are looking for. Family/honeymoon/couples? A friend has done several cruises with Royal Caribbean and loved them, just recently she did South France across to Italy with her family. I'm looking at these, Royal Caribbean, Norweigen Cruise Lines and Carnival. There are fantastic Disney Cruises too but my kids are now too old for that. If you want top end luxury look at Silveseas.

My son is happy to eat all of these at room temp and not fussed about them not being warm. Pasta salads: tuna, corn and mayo or chicken, corn, mayo. My son also likes it with cucumber. Mini pizzas quiche sausages marinated chicken pieces or plain chicken with a dipping sauce like BBQ or honey mayonaise. cucumber and carrot sticks with french onion dip of hummus couscous with roasted vegetables (pumpkin/zuchini and eggplant) Fried rice I have also bought a food thermos and he does sometimes take pasta in that warm. My son is pretty easy when it comes to eating. A lot of children would eat these things.

Hi Nat805, As others have mentioned getting a visa for your daughter may be challenging. A friend had a really hard time trying to get one for her child last year, they had to do several visa runs across the border and the ministry wanted the husbands approval. (they actually wanted to see him in person, despite him living in another county and she having soul custody). The rules change here all the time so we are just warning you to be wary. As for salary you would really want housing included for it to be viable. I know a lot of teachers that have their housing included but they don't cover visa costs or medical for the children so this is another factor to consider. Medical is expensive. We are all just being realistic as we live here and know what it is like.

I would see a podiatrist or ortho before buying shoes at Foot solutions. I'm not sure they are properly trained. Both my children have been to Dubai Podiatry and we were really happy with them. My eldest has orthodics and it made such a difference for him. Albeit he was older when we picked up the issue. We saw Michelle, but I don't think she is consulting at the moment. Recenty they saw Emma who was also really good. http://www.dubaipodiatry.com <em>edited by TimTam on 10/08/2013</em>

With such a short amount of time, personally I wouldn't go to Woodbury common, it will take up a whole day. Century 21 is great and there are some deals to be found, especially clothes and shoes.also Macys. Visit central park, hire a bike and ride around it. Lots of parks to play in. Take the train across to Brooklyn, then walk back across the bridge, view of manhattan is better in that order. Top of the rock as suggested. Take in a show or sporting event at madison square gardens, we did ice hockey and basketball. If you're into art we loved MOMA. The kids may prefer natural history museum if you have time. FAO Schwartz our kids also loved. Our kids are used to walking, they are a bit older but at the same age as yours they walked through pompeii and Petra. <em>edited by TimTam on 07/07/2013</em>

Dear Daisy, These are some of the expenses to consider, it will vary from person to person of course. I can't help with the villa, as our company covers the expenses but can give you other incidentals to consider. We are a family of four. Monthly OSN/Paid TV - 294dhs this is the package we chose there are others http://www.osn.com/Subscribe/packages_en_gb.aspx Internet connection/phone connection - 299 dhs http://www.etisalat.ae/en/personal/elife/bundles/doubleplay-packages.jsp Petrol- 600dhs (approx 150dhs a week but I drive quite a bit) Food: 3500dhs sometimes more as I buy organic meat and vegetable. Would be less otherwise. Mobile phone: I just use prepaid cards and spend max 100dhs a month, use wifi at home and work. Other expenses will be kids after school activities, these can be expensive. We pay around 1500 per child a term for Arsenal soccer school for 1 lesson a week. There is swimming, dancing, rugby, ballet etc. I believe rents are creeping up. Depends on the area you live, a friend is in Springs and pays 120,000, I have other friends paying 160-180,000 dhs in Umm Sequim per year. Others will be better at advising on this but you also have agent fees and the rent may have to be paid as 1 cheque for the whole year up front, sometimes 2. Each landlord is different. <em>edited by TimTam on 27/06/2013</em>

The organic foods and cafe store have organic chicken. They have whole fresh chicken and frozen ones. I always buy the frozen and put them in the freezer until we need them. Lovely roasted and taste so much better than the supermarket ones. The frozen chickens are I think 45dhs a kilo and every 3rd Saturday of the month they have 20% off.

We had the intolerance test done also and came up with the same results, we also saw Dr Rolef, who ran all tests for intolerances again, celiac, lactose etc and we came up with the same thing again. Sometimes after cutting them out of the diet for 3-6 months they can have them again. We cut out all wheat (which it is often hard to find things without wheat so we went gluten free), no dairy or egg. Now after 6 months he can have small amounts of bread with only a very small stomach ache. Unfortunately no egg or dairy, still causes much bigger pain. If it helps her stomach to cut these things out until you see the doctor, do so as I know it really helped my DS. It is very difficult, maybe cut out the one that gives her the worst pain first. I kept a food diary whic was useful. Organic store will be your best friend! Also your most expensive one. Let us know how you go then I can give you some ideas about recipes/foods.
