m_king what kind of diet are you doing? Originally you said just wheat free but it sounds like you are cutting all grains and wheat.

Hi mking, you can get the Schar bread from the gluten free supermarket, I haven't used them but a few people on here recommended them http://www.glutenfree-supermarket.ae/index.php?cPath=22 Buckwheat is not related to wheat, so if you can find the soba noodles made just from buckwheat they are ok, but often the cheaper brands are buckwheat and wheat combined. There was one brand at organic store that didn't have wheat. My DS has a wheat and dairy intolerance and I have found that if I look for gluten free here it is always wheat free. Good luck. You could have the pumpernickel breads, they sell those in carrefour/spinneys etc, also mountain bread/corn wraps they sell in spinneys are nice for lunches. edited by TimTam on 15/01/2013

The Schar brand of gluten free past is excellent. You can get it in carrefour, it's expensive 27dhs for a box but tastes great. We have tried them all and found this one far better than any other. I did see gluten free wok noodles in park n shop this week, pretty much rice noodles but quick and easy just to throw in your stir fly. You can get gluten free Soba noodles in the organic store. Most things that are gluten free are wheat free, I think they go hand in hand. I buy the Dovers white bread mix and it's quite good for bread.

There are lots of other schools in Dubai you could send your child to, is there not? Dinks do you have children?? Try getting into another good school here, not easy. Spaces in good schools are hard to find. I'm happy with JC just not happy like many others with a massive, massive increase.

It's not about who gets what and how much in their package, the issue is moving a campus that currently works and a massive fee increase to go with it. We all expect fee increases and understand that. Personally I will be paying 20-30,000+ Dhs more per child, for better facitlies like a sports ground, music hall etc. Is that going to make that much difference to my childs education? Currently they love the sports at JC, so be it they don't have a home ground, I don't want to pay for it! If the teachers are meant to be moving across with the children; we are therefore not paying more for teachers are we? Will the class sizes be smaller? Well I'm sure they wont be. Fill in the survey. edited by TimTam on 09/01/2013

I'm very happy with existing JC but we have been told the teachers are moving across to the new JC. The fear is if you don't move your child to the new JC and it's replacement is a cheaper gems school, will there be the same quality teachers or will they get cheaper paid teachers because they are charging less. It's a catch 22. The existing JC will stay and they will offer other qualifications such as BTEC. (I'm not so familiar as I'm not fromt he UK). I believe it will give students that aren't as academic the chance to gain a qualification, which is great. I also think it will be a school in progress, get the walls up, people in paying lots of money, things unfinished and work in progress. (A little like the Repton when it first opened and GEMS World Academy) Why change what is not broken, it's all about making more money.

Once your UAE residency visa is issued you can't drive a rental car or a private car with your USA license. You must get a UAE license. Don't risk it.

I have used them quite a few times and know others that do too and we are all very happy. I have only seen Russell Hill and he is excellent. If you do a search you will see them come up all the time. I haven't seen any negative feedback.

Out of interest what are the primary fees, on the web site they look ok but are they not reflective of a change? Emlsnre if you are new to the school in Sept 2014 :FS1 is 52,000 FS2-Y6 is 65,000, Year 7-9 85,000, Y10-11 96,000, Y12-13 is 106,000. These are only proposed and not sure if KHDA approved.

I know. I was just thinking the parents at JPS currently pay around 38000 then it will jump to 65,000. It will be like any other new school, they charge a fortune and not everything will be ready, it will take them forever to finish, rubbish parking, etc......

I found the letter very confusing. Isn't the move for existing students now 2014? Why then confuse us with fees for Sept 2013?? The primary school fees are outrageous, I feel sorry for those who want to get into JC senior but move across in primary to get the spot. It's a typical GEMS thing to do.

Zara always do that. If you go in before the sale, you need to ask them which items are on sale. Normally all the stuff at the front of the store will be on sale and things at the back are new stock. I found this out last time when I went in to reserve items.

I'd probably be more concerned with what you are eating and use of plastic containers for heating things. We rarely use our microwave, but it is handy for heating things. Always head in glass and never in plastic.

Thanks Purple for checking in. No I didn't get any but I did discover that the 'Ina Paarmans' Honey and Mustard dressing doesn't have any egg or modified starch and DS is happy with that on his pasta salad. So hopefully that will do until the organic store gets some more or Beebers come up with an amazing recipe :)

Personally I think the Ipad is too heavy for reading books, the kindle is excellent and easy to hold. Also it has a much better screen for reading outside. You can increase the font size on the kindle too. Ipads are brillant, but for reading books the kindle is so much better.

The best sour cream is the carrefour brand, unless you want to pay a ridiculous price. It's in a red tub and white tub. Written on it is Carrefour Creme fraiche epaisse 30% In english there is a sticker that says Thick sour cream 30% fat. They also do a blue low fat version but not as good. Its dhs7.50 for 200ml. I thinks it's as good as the Bulla and I'm Australian so pretty bias.

We did 2 nights Saigon, then 1 night trip to the Mekong Delta, which was one of the highlights of our trip, then Hoi An and Danang (5 nights). If you do a search there are posts about it. We arranged our trip through Come and go Vietnam, they were brilliant. They also arrange trips in the North. They arranged transfers, private sightseeing tours and our visa on arrival letter. http://comeandgovietnam.com It was nice to have a driver and guide, just took the hassle out of Saigon. Mekong Delta is so peaceful, we did the homestay but it was more like an upmarket B&B and the food was amazing. edited by TimTam on 18/11/2012

So funny Beebers! My mum always makes her own with egg for my Dad. I'm with you though, not a fan. I found another recipe, rice milk, lemon, seasoning and canola oil. Going to carrefour then will try it out this afternoon, not expecting too much! Thanks for your feedback. Between the 2 of us we make work it out :) or find someone who stocks it!

I'm going to try and make some, we'll need to cross all fingers and toes and hope for the best! Beebers I also saw a recipe that had xanthan gum, but I don't have any. Might try yours first. I'll await your trial first! Thanks again girls.
