Personally I don't think you can "correct" Dyslexia as his website states. Yes you can give the child coping mechanisms, but very sceptical he can correct it. It also says he carries out a 90min assessment. I have 2 children with Dyslexia, recently I had an assesment done by an educational psychologist as an updated one was required for GCSE's exam board. The assessment was around 5 hours spread over 2 days. Not sure what he charges but I don't think there is a quick fix. I would spend my money working with someone who can help your child and helps them find the best way that suits their learning style and abillity. (I have worked a lot with Dyslexic children and have studied NLP) edited by TimTam on 15/09/2012

I think JPS is capped at 28, up to Year 2 every class has a teaching assistant.

I know at JC and JPS you pay for uniform, transport and school trips, all books and text books are included in the fee. As they get to GCSE's (Year 10 and 11) there is an exam board fee. Both schools have a selection of free after school activites and JC have so many to offer. There are also paid activity options. Sports are mixed but at JC some sports are seperate and they have 1 music lesson a week. Both schools have school productions. JC open to whole school and JPS Year 6. I needed a school that had learning support as I have 1 child that is Dyslexic so that was important to me, but you may also want to know what classes they have in place for those that need boosting or extending. Check school websites as they should list the fees. Diyas where is your DD currently as some people may be able to offer comparisons if they have moved also. Otherwise if you prefer not to say what is it you don't like about your current school?

Hi Diyas, Both are good schools and I have friends with children at both. How long will you be here as you may want to consider where she will go to high school. Dess will generally feed to DESC which is in academic city. EC primary I have heard is better than the secondary and a few people I know have moved their children to JC as it's academically more challenging. Kings is another one to look at. My children went to JPS now JC and I'm very pleased but everyone will have their opinion. Maybe look at the schools and get a feel for them and what they have to offer. I really think when you visit the school you know if it's the right fit.

ishehere, we eat very little processed foods. I only buy organic meat and buy organic fruit and vege were possible, I make everything from scratch, no packet mixes. My children enjoy crisps and chocolate as treats. Unfortunately my DS was diagnosed with wheat and dairy intolerance. Now try telling a 10 year old he can't have anything he previously enjoyed. It is painskaing to come up with nice things for him to eat, so yes we as mothers try to find alternatives that taste good and make our children feel like they are not missing out or being punished. Try taking wheat, dairy and eggs out of your diet and see how interesting it is! DS needs to feel he can still have things like the rest of the family. So when we have pasta bolognase he can have his wheat free version. We seek out each other opinions to try and find the best alternative. And yes you know very little about intolerance/allergies and how difficult it can be. edited by TimTam on 09/09/2012

I really struggle. He was diagnosed about 2 years ago, went on strict diet for 6 months, then slowly introduced wheat again. Went really well for 18months now the stomach pains and running to the toilet have started again. I think being away over the summer he over indulged and I wasn't strict enough. I buy the Dovers wheat free flour from Spinneys, park n shop, or organic store. Orgran rice crumbs from Organic store. Gluten/wheat free pasta from Organic store (Buontempo) is quite good, http://www.buontempo.com.au but the one like the best is from Carrefour called "Schar" Fusilli. This tastes nice. I make bolognase sauce and the left over past I make pasta salad for school with corn, tuna and dairy free mayo. Park n shop also have some pasta that looks really good, but haven't tried it yet. Bread is my biggest problem. I did buy rice bread from organic store on Tues, very doughy and sticky inside, not great. Nils from the store said the white loaf is very good but it wasn't available. he said they should have it today. In the ahlan gourmet mag this week I saw another store called www.sweetconnectiondubai.com and they do wheat free, but things are a little pricey. Choithrams make their own beef sausage and tell me that they are wheat free. We had them this week and DS was fine, no stomach pains. In their pork section they also have a german brand of sausages/frankfurts that are labelled gluten/wheat free. These are also available in spinneys and park n shop. Oranic store have 20% next sat. It frustrates me no end that I need to visit so many supermarkets! Good luck, I find it really hard to come up with great tasting things for breakfast.

Hi Jlove, it's very difficult to find caesin free. My son is dairy and wheat intolerant. As far as I know soy doesn't have casein. You can get dairy free mayo at the organic store also a range of different milks. Choithrams has soy cheese. For butter I use nuttelex from Spinneys.

C4 have mixed berries and raspberries, I much prefer the ones in the clear plastic tubs as you can see they haven't previously defrosted and all mushed together. Some I've bought that you can't see in the bag look like someone has stomped on them. Marks and spencers also have some as do Waitrose. edited by TimTam on 06/09/2012

I'm pretty sure you still have the 30 days, I was 2 weeks over with mine in April, as long as your insurance is still current. I would ring the RTA and check. I think that is why they give you the extra 30days on your insurance.

K Lynn lingerie stores sell them here. There are different types, some really pull you in which I find uncomfortable and others just a bit that gives you a smooth line under a dress or skirt. I saw them at K Lynn at Mirdiff. I checked their website, there are also stores in MOE, Deira City Centre and Festical City.

Have a look at www.strawberrynet.com they deliver to the UAE and in a lot of cases cheaper than buying the products here. I tend to go into sephora, Harvey Nics etc and see what products I like, then order them online.I generally buy skincare but they have a lot of make-up. It takes about 10-14 days to come. I don't wear a lot of make-up but love Lancome black Hypnose mascara, Estee Lauder long wear eye liner and Bobby Brown lipsticks.

You can take the Al Khail, you need to watch carefully as the sign isn't that big. You stay on the Al Khail (44) go past the Jebel Ali raccecourse signs and there is a turn off after that. The sign will be on the right and it says Springs, Meadows, and a few others I can't remember. I did it yesterday so it's open.

I always buy my meat on the 20% off day (next one is 15th Sept). I buy for a month and freeze it. The beef and lamb are not much more than spinneys prices. Mince beef is 54dhs a kilo less 20% and at least you know it's organic. I can't fault their meat. Chicken sausages are also nice.

Personally I only buy organic chicken, I know the price is outrageous but at least I know it is free of additives and hormones. I used to buy Spinney's chicken many years ago but I found out it was pumped with phosphate to ensure it stayed juicy and plump. They did list it on the label but not sure they do anymore. Buy a piece of organic chicken and some spinney chicken and compare. Scary how different they are. On previous threads people have said the organic chicken is dry, but that's in their cooking not the chicken. Never had a dry chicken yet. The organic store frozen chickens from Austria and very nice too. Ultimately it's a personal choice.

I'd see a podiatrist. Dubai podiatry are excellent on Sheikh Zayed Rd. I go there and the podiatrist said in this environment you need to moisture your feet all the time. Scholl cream that you get in carrefour is very good. There is a general moisturising one and another one specifically for cracked heels. http://www.dubaipodiatry.com

It's quite common in children and I have seen many kids at school with it here. I believe they can only contract it if they have an open cut etc and they come in contact with it, so it's unlikely they will pass it on.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Danang. Danang is being developed, the hotel in on a lovely beach, but there is nothing around. Great if you want to hang out at a beach resort. They do have a kids club, but my children are older. It's 1/2 hr from Hoi an and they have a shuttle there in the morning which returns at about 3pm and another one in the evening, but you need to taxi back (cheap)

Hi Rotetho, forgot to mention the tests are quite expensive around 4000-4500dhs. They also take quite a few hours, depending on the case can be over a couple of appointments. Our insurance covers most of it. Also if you want other recommendations do a search on the forum for educational psychologist. good luck :)

My friends daughter had similar issues and she was assessed by Evelyn Seika/Educational Psychologist. She was assessed as having dyscalculia. Evelyn is very thorough and is well know here, excellent from what I've heard. Search on the forum and you'll see her name come up. She is now at Top Medical Centre in Grovesnor house/Marina ph-317 6569. My son has dyslexia and I have an appointment with her at the end of August as he needs an updated assessment so he can have the extra time on his GCSE exams.
