Hey! Ive been toing and froing on whether to post this as i think it may make me look a bit desperate or like a loner! But then I realised I shouldn't be ashamed and I'm sure there are more women out there seeking the same. I see posts from women who are new to Dubai and looking to meet new people....but my reason it's actually the opppsite- I've lived here a long time of 10 years and looking to meet new people. In an expat world here in Dubai, friends have come and gone, best friends are back home, some friendships don't last and others are lost/ distanced to friends getting married or having babies. I've suddenly found myself flying solo quite often and I'm simply up for meeting new people. If anyone is feeling the same, then I'd love to chat, meet, go for drinks or dinner, go for adventures and most of all... get back to being social and having some girly fun. Let me know! #NewFriends Hi Deb .. I was just going to post a similar message. I am in a bit of transition too. I’ve been here since 2009. I wouldn’t exactly say I am a social butterfly. But, I am a great listener and am looking for friendly support as well. I am coming to terms with my “next chapter” and how to navigate the road ahead. I would love to meet-up for any of your mentioned ideas. We’re sort of on opposite sides of town. How can we contact each other directly? Take Care Kim :sun:

Polly1 .. Everything Nomad said is spot on ! I also have an African Grey rescue and she's the center of my exsistance in DXB. My everyday routine revolves around her. Including the noise level and the mess! They are extremely intelligent, and preseptive birds. But, she is also a nervous and a biting bird. She has a gentle nature, but you never really know what's going on in her bird brain. And, I don't really know her history either. In terms of your purchase .. Please remember you need to get a bird with a CITES certificate. Otherwise, (like me) you will NOT be able to transport the bird via Air to your next destination OR board the bird at several of the more strick boarding facilities. Which is a REALLY big deal! It might not sound important now, but things change and people leave town or go on a vaction and it's an issue! You can send a P.M. to me I am glad to help or share some crazy bird stories if your interested. Take your time, and research the breeders out there. K. bye:

What would you do? I purchased 2 inexpensive pedestal fans about 7 months ago at Emax. About 1 month ago 1 of the fans started changing speeds and turning itself on/off automatically whenever plugged in (?) even when it was off !! I brought it in for service and they said it could be repaired. Since I have no receipt of course I had to pay AED35 to repair it. Now, 1 month later it's doing it again .. back to the service center. I am told now work isn't guaranteed .. what !! It's bad enough that a product is EXCLUSIVELY made for them .. so they know it was purchased there. 2nd repair they are claiming now is the "motor", AND they say the fan blade is also broken (since when I asked ???). Seriously, 7 months old ! Doesn't the store have some responsibility as technically speaking it's a fire hazard as it has an electrical problem .. with or without the receipt. Shouldn't the store stand by what it selling. BTW it's a Midea fan (If anyone else is having trouble) What would you do? What are my rights without a receipt? It's a reputable company, why treat customers this way ? edited by tintin313 on 08/10/2013 edited by tintin313 on 08/10/2013

Hi again, Randomly 3 years ago, a driver rang our door bell. A contract was set-up. Having no bottles initially, my husband paid AED100 and amazingly we had water from that point on. Every few weeks a driver would take the 5 empties and replace with 5 full. The system seemed to be working. Now, we are moving. So, we ended the contract. Now we have no bottles, and no deposit. There is no way they will bring the empties back now. edited by tintin313 on 13/08/2013

Thank you FairyDust. Well strangely .. another company offered their service at our new location, and they said you give the bottles and we provide the water. (@8 AED). So, did we buy those bottles? But, clearly on the receipt is stated "deposit". Had we known, we simply would have kept them to avoid the hassle FOR EVERYONE. The driver never stated .. "No, they are yours".

Hi Ladies .. This is really the first time I have experienced any dishonesty regarding business practices here (wink). We were getting 5 bottles delivered every 2 month for the past 3 years in Al Warqa from Al Kawthar. Granted, we weren't a huge account .. but, we were still paying customers. (And my husband always tipped). As we are moving we said we were cancelling our contract and they needed to pick-up their 5 bottles so we could get our initial AED 100 deposit back. So, we figure no problem. The bottles are picked-up, receipt given and in theory deposit "should be" returned. HUGE mistake .. "No giving the money, call office" So know the drill. I called the office, and I get a further run around of various excuses. "We will check" .. " No madam after Eid" .. " Sorry, Manager on vacation till after September" (I want his job) .. I asked for another Manager in his absence .. not available (ever). Is there something we don't know about water "deposits"? Is this the usual practice with this sort of thing? Who do you report this to? Thanks in advance .. K. edited by tintin313 on 13/08/2013

Do you happen to know how many people the burj park holds? just wondering how busy it is going to be? D - I am terrible at estimating people in open spaces. I felt it was quite small (maybe 1000 pp maximum) Grandstand looked like it had maybe 30 rows, then of course the open (standing) space(s). Placed looked lovey with the Burj, and twinkly lights around. There seemed to be 2 entrances. I would park on the Souk Al Ba' side. Should be an awesome date night tonight. ... Bring your dancing shoes. ;)

A .. I went by yesterday night. The only stalls I saw inside were some promo stands selling new products and services. Stalls would be nice .. bevi's too : ). I am going to the concert as well tonight. The good news is that the area wraps around to the Dubai Mall, so you could pop over and get something to eat if you really needed to. Have Fun .. ;);):)

I brought lavender seeds from the Garden Centre to grow a plant two weeks ago. I got really excited when the shots started growing, and two weeks later its still alive. The downside is... it realy isn't looking like a lavender plant. .. Nels .. How did you do this? Did you use a seedling tray? Or simply place in small pots? My package only has jibberish written on it .. Any help is appreciated. Kim edited by tintin313 on 25/03/2011 edited by tintin313 on 25/03/2011
