Honestly I would not get the exterminators in. The chemicals are nasty and of course the guys from the company will tell you it's fine but have they done any research on the effects of these chemicals on pregnant women? They use chemicals here that are banned throughout the rest of the world. I do recommend Boric Acid Powder (do a search on here). I bought some from Boots a few months ago. It's much less toxic to humans but make sure your dog doesn;t lick it up. We had a horrible cockroach infestation and it cleared up just with this within a week. Just to be safe get your husband to do it and don't touch it yourself. Why risk it?

Use Earlybird.ae [url=https://www.earlybird.ae/'>link[/url'>they deliver various different waters (including Oasis) and are very reliable. You can also order all your soft drinks and some other bits and bobs through them. I've been using them for 3 years now and very happy with their service edited by Tiptoptoni on 13/03/2013

I have had quite a few scans with Dr Julia at Primavera and she is very very thorough and she seems highly skilled. Sometimes I find in Dubai in the long run it's worth waiting to see the right person. Dr Sant herself is a very thorough doc with high standards and you can see she has high respect for Dr Julia. I know she obviously would suggest you use her practitioner, but in this case I think I probably would wait a month for a couple of reasons - firstly I would trust Dr Julia to be very thorough and secondly the communication of the results between the ultra sound Dr and the Gynae is very important.

You need to use boiled water (or water that is at least 70C) to make up the formula not to kill nasties in the water but to kill bacteria in the formula.

Evian or volvic are the best (ie lowest in sodium and sulphates), al ain is also low. Masafi is tge lowest of the large 4 or 5 gallon waters over here. Lulee - Arwa is v low in sodium but pretty high in Sulphates. You should still boil the water though - to kill the bacteria in the formula powder the water needs to be at least 70C when you make the bottles up.

It's totally normal 4 months after birth. I have just had it, in fact still having it too and my DS is 5 months. Just remember that you are only losing the hair you didn't lose during your pregnancy when your hormones made you keep hair you would normally have lost. So it goes a bit thicker in pregnancy anyway. It is a bit freaky the amount that seems to fall out when you're brushing though!

I love mine and, like Beany, bought it because the positioning is supposed to be healthier for the baby compared with others (Babybjorn). I got the sport one which is very lightweight material and breathable to prevent getting too hot and sweaty. It's so comfortable, I can wear my sturdy 5 month in it for 2 hours easily. I do have the infant insert but haven't really been able to use it as I had a summer baby and it was far too hot to use. I also have a moby wrap but the ergo sport is just as lightweight and much quicker and easier to put on.

It took me a while to figure this one out too! I am pretty sure Spinneys no longer have the trolleys with the car seat attachment on for safety reasons but i could be wrong? i take my stroller and shove one basket underneath in the stroller's basket and i carry another basket. It means I can't do a big trolley shop but if I plan it out it's not too much of a problem.. I also use earlybird for the heavy stuff which helps.

I'm going to be starting BLW very soon too and have that Gill Rapley cookbook which is really useful. You can get it from Book Depository with free UAE delivery or if you have an iPhone / iPad etc it's on iBooks too. I'm itching to get started now but DS isn't 6 months for another few weeks yet. I did give him a baby sweetcorn the other day which he clearly loved so I'm confident it will work. If you find any other good resources please report back!

Hi Liv My tips would be: Definitely use the sling in the airports Wear easy to take off shoes (trying to take off knee high boots through security Dubai side with baby in the Ergo on my own was not easy) Make sure the bugaboo is in a proper travel case then plastic wrapped or it will get totally trashed (even consider leaving it at home and buying a cheapy just for travelling) Wrap the car seat very well - even just plastic wrapped at the airport my looked like it had been thrown around

I have ordered from feelunique.com before which delivers here for free which is great as long as you aren't in a hurry for it. I have also seen a few bits in Milk and Honey in the Meadows and also some of the little maternity boutiquey shops in Dubai Mall (eg. Blossom, i think it's called) but far cheaper and much better choice by ordering online.

I will soon be travelling with Emirates with my 4 month old and trying to work out what we can take with us. I can see from the website that we have 10kg checked in luggage and 5kg hand luggage for the baby and we can check in a 'stroller'. Can we take a car seat (not for use on the plane though as it is a rear facing one which i think you can't use) to check in or would that be taken out of the 10kg checked in luggage? What do they mean by stroller? I have a travel system type thing where the seat or cot unit is separate from the chassis of the pushchair. So would i be able to take ALL of the following?: - a car seat (to check in) - a travel system (chassis plus seat, to check in) - 10kg baggage (to check in) - 5kg hand luggage I will be travelling economy.

Driving through a red light is also 10 points on your licence which would go on the owner's licence unless you go down to the Rta with her to have them put on yours instead. It is 15 days impoundment or Aed 100 per day (aed 1500) to avoid impoundment plus the actual fine itself. Sounds fishy if she is not wanting you to take the black points tOo. In my experience it takes 48 hours ( excl weekends) for a fine to show online. How accurate are the times on those cameras I wonder? I think you or your DH would have noticed if you ran a red. I would be a bit suss that she went through one immediately after your test drive. Both parties need to be careful about this with regards to your insurance situation as I imagine there was no insurance during the test drive which the Rta could pick up on if they are sharp enough and possibly issue more fines / points to either or both of you.

I also researched this when i was looking into it. The only benefit for not doing it was the delayed cord clamping, however you also have to weigh up losing out on that potential benefit (confusingly some research shows that delayed cord clamping also causes problems) of delayed cord clamping vs missing out on the benefits of stem cell technology already available today and who knows what benefits in 5, 10 15 yrs time. I think if you can possibly afford it, it's a fantastic thing to do. You can store longer than 25 years. The price generally only includes for 25 year storage but you then should have the option to continue after this time period. Happy35 - are you saying you need to have a natural birth to do cord blood banking? If so this is not the case. You can definitely do it with a C section too.

Can't think what the agent could have gained apart from bringing in interest to try and show people other properties they do have genuine access to and falsely representing the "successful" image of the company. Very scary if things are really so lax with Title Deeds. Yes - i'll bet that's exactly what the agency was doing - trying to drum up interest. When your friend rang up did the agent try and mention other similar properties? Either that or your landlord isn't being straight with you. It sounds a bit fishy the agent knew the amount and expiry of the lease unless the landlord expressed an interest to sell a while ago and changed his mind but the agent decided to add it to the books anyway in case a decent offer would persuade your landlord to sell. can you give us a clue which agency it was?

I have just done this. We filled out a form online and paid online on the FCO website then sent the form and marriage certificate by courier to the UK this Monday to be delivered to the FCO on Wednesday. Yesterday I received an email saying it had been despatched back to me and I expect it tomorrow or Sunday. Cannot believe it will have taken less than a week. Cost was £30 for attestation at the FCO plus £25 for them to courier back here by Fedex which is payable online. We also paid about AED 190 to get it sent over there by DHL (separately). Once I get it back I believe we then need to take it to the British Embassy in Dubai for further certification which I understand can be done within the day (or even quicker?). Personally I wouldn't bother with an agency unless it's difficult for you to get to the British Embassy this end during working hours. Just to add - i think there was an option on the form online for the FCO to send the attested certificate to the UAE Embassy in London to finish it off. We could have done that instead but opted for us to finish the process off at British Embassy in Dubai instead (in case it got lost). Either option is fine though. edited by Tiptoptoni on 13/07/2012

I love the Phil and teds wiggle wrapper to strap into a chair. Love the Stokke too, but make sure you don't want a tray first, as I don't believe they are sold in Dubai and you'd have to ship one in. I saw trays in Just Kidding recently for the Tripp Trapp. Also they are doing an offer for DSS where you get the newborn part for free if you buy a Tripp Trapp.

There's a Dubai based website called Blush and Bloom or something which has quite a good selection of really pretty bras. I believe the lady will come out and measure you and give advice too if you want. The Hotmilk bras are lovely. Also there is a shop in the mall on Beach Road - sorry can never remember the name of those malls in Jumeirah but it's the one with the Emirates Airline office in it. DB Babies, I think it's called, although their selection is a bit more limited. I ordered most of mine from Debenhams or Figleaves online but a bit hit and miss with the sizing.

LMAODXB - sorry to hear the baby hasn't turned :-( At least you know when you will be having your baby and still a few weeks to mentally prepare! I am really hoping mine does not make an appearance until close to the due date at end of July as my consultant has just informed me she is on holiday from early to mid July. I'm still hoping for a natural birth. 34 weeks now and starting to get pretty exhausted after only only an hour waddling around the mall. I'm still working for another few weeks yet though so I had better perk myself up for a while yet.

Although you don't get full maternity benefits until you have been working for a year with that employer, you do get 45 calendar days maternity leave at half pay. At least that is the case for 'on-shore' companies I understand -not sure if the freezones have different provisions. I would be tempted to stick it out until you probation period is over before you tell them if at all possible. At least then if you get made redundant you will get a bit more of a notice period or they might like you enough to keep you on.

Hello Ladies! I am 31 weeks now, baby is head down and so far so good. Definitely been busy shopping - mostly online really so my shop n ship bills have been huge, although I have some family coming over in a month or so to bring some of it over. I'm feeling surprisingly ok most of the time. I have the odd day here and there where I am utterly exhausted but then the next day I will be absolutely fine. I am waddling a bit though and turning over in bed is a bit of a mission. I am definitely up for some get togethers too. I think we will need them! I haven't thought about a hospital bag yet. I will have to put that on my to - do list. My task this weekend is to draft up a birthplan and manage my hubby into doing a bit more on the nursery / building furniture etc. I think i have decided to deliver at City Hospital, but I need to take a look around the maternity ward sometime. How is Sami getting on with her little girl? Kiran - hope you are enjoying the UK!

It may be illegal, but here is the fee breakdown i got from an agent yesterday.. • £185.00 per adult for reference & agency fees • 1 month rent in advance @ £850.00 • 6 weeks security deposit @ £1177.00 • Check In fee @ £85.00 Which comes to nearly 2500 pounds.... 6 weeks security deposit so that the plac eis returned as we found it- been there in Australia and never saw a penny of it back, even though the house was well taken care of, so I am a bit leery... I'm sorry but it all looks normal to me for UK tenants. I'm not sure why some people are saying charging a tenant fees is illlegal? The rent in advance is not really a fee and surely you would always expect to pay a security deposit? The check-in fee will be the fee for the inventory - often the tenant pays the check in and the landlord pays the check out but it depends what's in the agreement. The agency fee is partly towards the reference checks and their own admin fee. (A lot cheaper than the 5% we have to pay here to agents who don't even do that). As someone else has mentioned the deposits are well protected in the UK now and either it goes into a custodial scheme or the landlord has to take out an insurance. Make sure you get a copy of the certificate which should be available within 14 days of you handing over the deposit.

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. The answer is it could be either the left over bHCg or a new pregnancy. They will need to do two blood tests 48 hours apart to see if the bHCG is doubling. If not it could be left over from the miscarriage. Did you get a negative test beforehand? Each time I miscarried it took me about 6- 7 weeks to get a negative but I was about 12 weeks along so levels would have been higher and of course everyone is different. Good luck.

I've not been impressed at all by them. Now, we ended our relationship from the "quotation" as their "New business manager" was particularly unefficient and almost rude. So they never took care of my babies. This is only my opinion here, lot of EW recommend them highly. I had used them for a while but their 'new business manager' was so rude and inefficient with me also I was astounded. When I complained, the owners backed her rudeness to which really surprised me so I made other arrangements and have not and will not use them again. Previous to that I had used them for a few years and to be honest had generally not had any issues with the actual sitters although depending on who you get, some do not like clearing the cat litter tray too often.

I researched this a lot too. From what I can see lots and lots of women fly in the first trimester and them and their babies are just fine. For the vast majority of people I don;t think it causes any problems whatsoever. However, flying does increase your chances of blood clots, especially if you have underlying blood clotting issues that you don;t know about. In the first trimester the blood vessels to the baby are so tiny, little blood clots could form and block blood supply to the baby and cause a miscarriage. However this would only be if you have a blood clotting issue with no treatment, although most people would not be aware of this until they had recurrent miscarriage testing. The risk is very small, but it is still a small risk. You can reduce the chances by moving round, drinking lots of water etc on the flight. Some people are worried about the effects of radiation during the flight. Personally that would not bother me. The other thing to consider is if you had any complications and were away from home it could be pretty tricky, but really this depends on where you are going/ who you are with. The final thing is the stress of the travelling. If it's not a stressful journey then fine, but always best to keep stress to a minimum. I weighed everything up and decided not to fly in my first trimester, but that is a very very cautious approach. If your doc says it's ok, then you should be fine.

You may well still be covered even if your company changed insurance providers. Normally the company agree these terms with the new provider. My husband's company has changed insurers 3 times and each time I had not had to wait another X amount of time to get pregnant but it rolled on as if it were the same insurance company if you see what i mean. Definitely worth checking.

rightmove.com will be able to give you an idea of rents in different parts of the country. if i was going to buy-to-let then i'd do it in london or a university town i think. although, having students in your property isn't ideal for keeping it in lovely shape. [b'>rents in london are really high at the moment, i have friends in a one bed, one reception first floor flat in clapham and they are paying about £1600 pcm, freinds in a larger flay in highbury paying closer to £1800 pcm. both unfurnished.[/b'> obviously the rental market does fluctuate though. also, renting through an agent they take their fees from that so if you rented it at £600pcm you'd probably be paying them 5%-10% depending on the agent. At half that amount, I'm obviously undercharging for my one bed, one reception first floor flat in Clapham.. Plus, the managing agent takes 12 percent in fees a month, plus a month's rent every time they renew the contract.. Simplesabc - have you checked Rightmove recently? Rents have increased a lot over the past couple of years. £800 pcm sounds more like the rent for a studio in Clapham now. Do you get charged when they renew the contract with the same tenant? Possibly worth terminating your contract with that management co. and starting with a new one that doesn't charge the renewal fee? I have found that many agencies are willling to take the clause out of their contracts (saying renewal with the same tenant will be free of charge or for nominal £50 admin fee etc) if you negotiate this at the start.

If I were you I would firstly narrow down to which area you are interested in. For investments purposes I would definitely recommend a flat in London, preferably within zone 1 or 2 and no further than a 10 minute walk from a train or tube station. I would avoid large new build apartment developments. Although the maintenance on them is easy, when you are renting out or selling there is always someone in direct competition with you, the service charges tend to be higher and some mortgage lenders are fussy about these types. To choose an agent I would send an email enquiry (preferably to one that has both a rentals and sales department so they can advise on both), tell them you are overseas and basic requirements and see who gets back to you with a sensible response nice and quickly. Some agents are rubbish at dealing with you via email and some are fantastic. I much prefer email communication with agents as I have a record of what was said when and more convenient with the time difference.. The cheapest I have found in London is 6% management only (i.e. they charge a nominal additional fee - usually 2 or 3 weeks rent plus VAT- to get a tenant in on top of the 6% per month). Some properties I don;t bother with a management company but I know the properties and contacts in the area well. If you don't then I would recommend a management agent. In my experience the ones that charge most are certainly not necessarily the best. The best one I ever found charges the 6% a month. I would do lots and lots of internet research (rightmove) now so you know what the market asking prices and selling prices are. Perhaps call a few agents in the area to chat about what is popular at the moment, and generallly how negotiable the asking prices are, how quickly things are moving etc. Know what type and what postcode area you want then when you are next over you can organise some viewings. You don't need to have all appliances covered but I would recommend the Brtish Gas Landlords Homecare cover at least for your boiler / central heating system.

... Its definitely a lot harder for me. for a start there are more part time jobs / job shares at home. In Dubai trying to find a part time job is like trying to find rocking horse poo. At home I have a family support network not to mention registered child minders, free nursery places etc etc etc. I don't have a maid. I guess it's like most things and depends on your specific circumstances. In my field, part-time is near impossible so that's not an option. Child care here is ludicrously expensive, so I will be working three days a week to pay for the child care. I have no support network to take care of the children. In Dubai, if I wanted one I could afford full-time live in help...so for me, it would be much easier in Dubai. I suppose in your home country though it is more likely the childcare would be qualified, speak English as their first language and maybe be of a similar culture to your children and potentially worth paying a decent wage for, rather than a cleaner who has happened to look after children before.

40 days would be ridiculous. Fortunately you are misinformed and the correct statutory number of days is a much more generous whole [i'>forty five days[/i'> . I know it sucks and yes, that 45 days also has to include weekends. Unless your company has a more generous maternity policy you are expected to return to work after that 45 days (oh, and that 45 days also includes any time you wish to take off before the birth). There is a provision in the labour law that if you are unwell you can have up to 100 further days off unpaid but would need a medical certificate. From what I have read most docs would not just write you a certificate for that whole time but if you were not well enough you might be able to get a medical note for one or two weeks and have it reviewed. Doesn't really give you an option other than to give up work unfortunately unless you are lucky enough to be able to negotiate unpaid leave with your employer or brave enough to leave a one month old baby with a maid.

Also, I would like to drop the following question: What is better for the environment, to fill the landfill with disposable nappies or spend water and use detergent to wash reusable ones? But what about the energy / chemical / water use in producing disposables, distributing them to the shops, plastic packaging waste, additional domestic bin bags, transport of disposables to landfill and then the use of landfill sites for a very long time, chemicals leaching into the soil? I actually don't know the answer, but if Greenish is correct in that it's one additional load every two days, I will bet the reusables win. Sweetlily - that EC sounds incredible. I have never heard of it. edited by Tiptoptoni on 20/12/2011
