My DH helped me with this. Here it goes: Smell is travelling thru air. Air is passing a stinky area. Bathroom has few outlets to sewage system. Each one of the outlet (WC, Basin, Bidet, Bath tub & Floor Drain) is design to have a water seal which does not allow the smell to reverse travel. When this seal is not there, dried or seal trap was never installed, you will have smell travelling reverse end. Sometime it can be the vent from the fixtures which could be the reason. Someone who can read the "As Installed Drawings" can pick from drawings. :-) Hope this helps.

Free Zones follow law different than the law of mainland. Even when they are allowed to open food courts, which works as an attraction for investors, they are covered with some sort of visual obstruction from public view. I guess this is just being sensitive to international business houses feeling at home, during Ramadan too. Check out Doha during Ramadan and you will never visit Qatar. There are various small things that make Dubai what it is. Check out stores that are on Fuel Stations. They are the rescue points at times. edited by touimi on 30/06/2014

Any store, its the product and in line the manufacturer you need to select. C4 is just distributing. A branded product wont be different in quality in C4. I guess it depends on what you purchase. C4 can only offer customer service.

Ladies, Remember buildings with Chiller Air conditioning are normally more cooler that other buildings. Even in Summers, the walls are cool because all building elements are cooling. I wouldn't leave it on, if I were you.

I found stress means more than I can handle. Its different for each one of us. When I have many things that I need to deal with, I classify them, learn the type, experiment with it, get someone to double check and done. Repeat the process over for next type of activity. There is no guarantee to have peace, if it was to be because of others. If you are not at peace, find it. Job is just another detail. I feel life is too precious to be wasted crying over someone else. Good luck.

Thanks ladies for the suggestions. I might as well share what I found from friends. This company offered me free 2 hrs cleaning if I completed a survey they had put up online. I had some deep cleaning done in the bargain :-) I paid for 2 hrs while got 4 hrs of cleaning done. The cleaner lady knew her job and was polite. Filipina are like that. Give it a try. http://dubaihousekeeping.com

Housing fee is a standard component. What changes is 1. electricity consumption - AC is the heaviest load on DEWA bill. We have chiller included in the rent but I have lived in Split Ducted residence hence I know. 2. Consumption of water and accordingly sewage bill. Its directly proportional. If you want to cut on DEWA bill, reduce AC by 1 degree (set it to 24 or 25 if you are comfortable still). Don't leave doors and windows open. Good luck.

As if it was easier this far. Funny part is, those who play with rules, will keep doing so. Just that simple people like us will be burdened with more confusion. We are deciding to opt for maid service instead and reclaim our privacy. Any recommendations for a professional maid service company? Cheers!

I opted for company insurance. My company offers medical insurance for employees and if we wish to add family, we could pay extra for the same. But because it is a group insurance we get deep discounts. I have seen another example where employee of one company come together and do a group insurance. What I have is Green Crescent with Nextcare network, classic plan. It costed me AED 2600 and pay excess AED 50 only.

The Real Estate market is totally sentiment driven. Which drives cost of operating /staying in a country. This is what we are experiencing in UAE. expo 2020 jobs? Long way 2 go pals. One is building, serving is far ahead in future.

I love Dubai but it can never be home. Our priorities change so does our expenses. That does not mean journey isn't fun meanwhile. Earning more than you need is in past or stories. Depending on our priorities in life, we come here, stay and move on.

MY DH recently has gone through the same. Major hypermarkets register a company at anywhere between 50,000 to 150,000/-aed first time. Additionally if you have 3 flavors you bar code fee per varient anywhere between 5000 to 10,000 aed. This will give you one hypermarket. Now do the math if you want more supermarkets. Any guesses how product manufacturer recovers this cost? edited by touimi on 28/03/2014

I guess it is the spirit of the place which is also important. We shifted recently with the focus for children having access to a park and other playmates. But so much to the natural mingling.....Park has been the only rescue.

There is over 2 dozens free zones in Dubai alone and 1 each in other emirates. When you expensive, it is a relative term. What is it that you consider reasonable? I recollect, RAK, Ajman, Fujairah each one can offer you a company set up with 100% ownership within 25k to 40k. If you wish to expand, there are options there also. I like DAFZA most bust it can go above 200k. Why not call the Business Setup companies? There are half a dozen in classified of Gulf News everyday. Good luck.

I am facing a similar situation. My maid has been with us for now about 5 years. I am a working mom and got 2 kids. We hired her and felt blessed. With her home, my first kid didn't need to stay whole day at nursery. All was well. And then came the second child. The maid was such a help to me and my baby. But she started ignoring the elder one. The elder one feels ignored and can't be friends with her anymore. She wanted to attend church activities and we had no reason to stop her. Soon she started having some sort of group of friends who look upto her for advises. Now she keeps getting calls from them all the time. While my son a still small and does all sort of playful things, she is busy on phone. And we live on 8th floor. I had to put locks in all balcony doors. Just to think I get jitters. On the other side I see her love for my son. They have some good time together. What a difficult situation, now that she wants to go for 4 weeks vacation. What do I do? No choice but take off from work and take care of my kid. Me and my DH, we are take 2 weeks each and baby sit. We have no family of close relatives in UAE. What must be the plight of working couples with similar situations or no maid at all? Raising kids has proved certainly more challenging than I had thought. Finding a trustworthy maid is not easy. To try someone is too expensive. so we are sticking with the one we have at the moment. Will we be satisfied ever or not?

Hey emmsie, As a bank you may have different experience with different people. I guess your question is pertaining to not having a source of income to show to the bank. Are you having it in another bank? As long as it is transferred through legal channel, there should not be a problem. Specially speak to relationship manager of a bank and they can guide you on this. I had wonderful experience with Emirates NBD DAFZA branch. They are amazing people.
