I was coming home around 6.30pm last night and passed what looked like a horrific accident just near the Meydan Race Course. I was curious about how an accident like what I saw, would occur there....no traffic, one way, no cross roads, do accidents get reported in the paper? I know an accident that looked as bad as that, would make the papers back home.

Perhaps Qizzme is calling on advice/experience from a trusted forum to her. Why does it need to have anything to do with the UAE? What has hotels in Rome, depression, detergent, presents, got to do with the UAE? It's all about asking atrusted source.

Really? It feels extreme, but thank you for the advice. RTA said 72 hous so I'll call again tomorrow and advise I will be contacting the police...and I will, just because this is not an innocent lost and found claim...the taxi driver definately intentionally mislead my son and kept the phone.

SueB - thanks so much for the advice....I think I was already on the same page but just needed reassurance because I feel so so much for the mummy cat. I had her booked to be sterilised tomorrow but her 2 kittens went on Friday and her behaviour changed so dramatically I cancelled the appointment, thinking she needed a few more days. New appointment is next Tuesday...based on your advice I may bring it forward. The babies are eating wet food and dry food and snacking on mum. I have cancelled my own appointments to be with mummy more...she seems happy when she is with me but when I leave, the kids and DH tell me she wanders the house calling for her kittens. It's heartbreaking! [u'>kiwispiers [/u'> I'm thinking your comment about "how would I feel...." is not aimed at me directly, but acknowledging we as mothers would not cope if our babies just disappeared. Thanks everyone edited by Trigg Beach on 29/01/2012 edited by Trigg Beach on 29/01/2012 edited by Trigg Beach on 29/01/2012

Hi all, My son caught a taxi on Thursday afternoon and as he got out of the car his mobile phone fell out of his pocket into the taxi. He realised straight away and his friend who was with him immediately called his phone...they could still see the taxi but it was a long way away. The driver answered and told my son to wait where he was dropped and he would come around the block (my teminology not his) but he did not turn up. So my son called his mobile again (on his friends phone) and the taxi driver said to wait where he dropped them, he was almost there..... Thirty minutes later my son asked the security guard near by to call his phone, hoping the taxi driver would pick up...he did, so the guard spoke to him in his language and said that my son was happy to pay the fare to bring the phone back. The taxi driver said he was coming...he never arrived and the phone has been switched off ever since. I called the RTA (still newish to Dubai) and they gave me a case number and said they could track the driver by GPS...I called today and they do not have any information as yet. Do I sit tight? Or do I assume the phone is long gone...it was a pre paid so not toooooooooo bad, finacially speaking, but a major inconvenience.

Hi, I have a beautiful mummy cat who has had a litter of 5 kittens. Two of the kittens have recently been homed and she has been making this loud yoddeling (can't spell) noise, wandering from room to room. She still has 3 kittens with her and is still feeding them. I'm assuming she is missing her babies desperately. This is a foster cat and I have had mummy cats previously and they have not had this behaviour when their kittens find homes. The kittens are 8 weeks. Thanks for any info.

OK thanks so much...so I will: - remove the underlay....new mattress but I'll try anything - remove the duvet..******, spent a fortune on that one (good saleswoman) - I don't use the a/c where possible and at the moment have the windows open and the room is lovely and cool until you get into bed!! - and I'm feeling relieved as we were thinking it might have been the memory foam as we haven't had it before (and couldn't afford to replace it at the moment), but that said, haven't had the goose feather duvet either And I'm now hoping for a better sleep tonight! Thanks again

Different animal...but my husband has never liked cats, infact his entire family dislike cats immensely. I'm a cat lover and I just had to have one. He came around so quickly and many many years later we still have cats and he adores them.

Whoops, I missed the suburb 'Stirling' in CdnExpat70's list - agreed not top end but the other's most certainly are. I have a rental in Duncraig so I do have a handle on the housing prices/rental in that area if you want any info Clair K.

I'd agree with everything CdnExpat70 said, however all of those suburbs are at the top end of the market except for Karrinyup. Another nice suburb without the price tag would be Dungraig which is on the trainline and if taking the freeway Osborne Park is only 2 exits away from Duncraig and it's a 5 - 8 minute drive to the beach.

Not from the UK but my parents have only just left here to go home to Australia. Dad is 84 and NO insurance company in Australia would insure him because of his age...and he has no pre-existing ailments...just his age.

Thanks louisedvs but if your collegue was the Emirates employee then she is entitled to bring her niece here. I'm the spouse of the employee and I want my sister and her daughter to come but I don't think they extend staff travel to my niece.....not being the employee myself.

I've checked the staff travel manual and it seems the answer is no but just thought I'd check. Are my sister's children eligible for staff travel. Obviously mys sister is and from what I can tell it's my DH's nieces and nephews who are eligible but NOT mine. Is that correct?

Hi Stardust, I have just got back from a trip to Mirdif City Centre after reading your post. I have been waiting on the netballs to come in at Decathlon for 3 weeks now.....but there were NO netballs. I asked to speak to the manager who confirmed that he has an order in for netballs and is in negotiations with the supplier, trying to rush the order as he is one of the only stores in Dubai to stock netballs.....but he said he hasn't sold a netball for over 3 weeks? I told him about your post and he said that you must have bought a basketball or volleyball????

I've seen the Emirates Post Office in there but haven't used it. If you park in the car park closest to the building you will see an entrance (glass sliding doors) and a security guard...just go in there and it's down about 25 metres on your left. The building is open from 7.00am onwards I think.

Thanks SkyKitty - amazing info! I was just going to give this 'standby thing' a crack but having done the "puffing and panting" thing when flying standby with Qantas (with 3 kids and far too much hand luggage) I thought I'd try and get as informed as possible. Last question: If the load coming home is over or at capacity how do I go about changing the flight without going to the airport. The flight the day after I actually want to come back looks fine at this stage so I have a back up if I can't travel on the 28th.....we are trying to come back on my husbands flight but it is already close to capacity. It's a bit of a novelty for the kids to be on the plane dad is flying otherwise I would have just booked the 29th.

Ok thanks, that helps. Also, I've only ever travelled Cat A subload with Qantas....we have purchased Cat C firm since being with Emirates. We are going to give Cat A a try...risky I know! What is the process at the airport? With Qantas - there was a staff lounge waiting area where you waited to be called if there was a seat. Thanks again.

I too have tried everywhere!! The only store that actually knew what a netball is and that usually stocks them is Decathlon. The Mirdif store has them on order and they are supposed to have stock in 3 weeks.

If you know where Cedre Villas is, go there, to the main roundabout that feeds to the Cedre Villas security gates. You can't miss the car park or Spinney's sign from the roundabout.

I couldn't disagree more with Nimonemo! My son attends university here and is receiving a fabulous education. He has experienced and keen lecturers, some whom even email him information, updates, ammendments personally. He came to the Uni knowing no one and has met some great mates and they are definately not spoilt! One fellow lives in a studio apartment on his own with very little as his parents live in another country and support him best they can. The exposure to different cultures is an absolute gift and life experience. He is in contact with his friends at home, some are studying the same course and the content is very similar. We gave our son a choice and he chose to be with his family...life is too short and our children are gone too quickly - it's lovely to have him around us!

My 85 year old Dad and 77 year old mum arrived Tuesday. I took them to Festival City yesterday and mum loved it but Dad was constantly looking for a seat to rest on. I'll let you know what works and what doesn't as the next 2 weeks pan out. I'm interested to know about the 'big water taxi' Amelia spoke about and also the Abra taxi???? I've not been to the creek myself (fairly new here) do I just plug it into the satnav or is there a specific part of the creek I need to go to? Thanks

We've done the rounds looking at garden furniture...I didn't think Ace's prices were good but ok quality. There's a very good range of what you describe at Dragon Mart but I'm not sure about the quality. We had a beautiful outdoor wicker set in Oz which was sun treated, when I enquired about this they didn't know what I was talking about. There is a very good garden shop on level 1 at the Outlet Mall - a little pricey but nice furniture. Re the quality thing...it may be the same everywhere..not sure.
