Hi, I'm brand new to Dubai only been here for four weeks, we are off to the Atlantis on Saturday for Iftar as we have been invited by one of my husband's arabic colleagues. Please could someone advise on the appropriate dress code for a woman. As a woman having that dress panic don't want to be dressed inappropriately, is it quite formal? Hi Kellylou and welcome to Dubai! I am sorry I can't really answer your question (I could guess but I am not 100% sure). If you don't get any replies here, just start a new thread and you will get lots of input. :)

Hi Shellly, yes, there definitely is and it is quite a lovely one. When DS1 was 9 months old I opted to do an overnight stay just so that we could re-group. It is the Crowne Plaze Changi Airport. Try one of the cheap hotel booking sites as I think it was a bit pricey - but honestly, well worth it!

Hi All, I understand from most reviews that Dr. Elsa has performed more C-section births than natural births. Or am I wrong ??? Because I really want a natural birth ... I already feel scared of C-section ! There could be valid reasons why an Ob has high c-section rates. Take myself for example, I am on my third pregnancy and will need a c-section. I asked around a lot and discovered that Dr Elsa is very good at c-sections (good stitching and follow up scar mgt etc) and so that is one of the main reasons why I opted to go with her. If a Dr has a good reputation for something, patients will always seek them out.

There's nothing! Was advised that the tap water is "dead" as it is desalinated so it has nothing in. For kids it's best to use nestle water (advise from GP) as it has the lowest sodium content and it contains fluoride Nestle water does not have a low sodium content. It is also debatable whether fluoride is a good thing. In Australia they have suddenly stopped adding it (without explanation). Google it and you will see there is a lot of literature on the harmful effects of flouride. I use ARWA for my LO's. It actually does have low sodim but still contains fluoride.

My super organised daughter bought a receipts file from Kikki K-think there is one at Dubai Mall-she also bought a bills organiser and one for appliance brochures and warranties-and a wedding planner etc-loves their stuff! Not sure what the range is like here but worth a look hee hee, she sounds EXACTLY like my sister :)

Love, love, love Dr Elsa! Sorry to hear some of you are having trouble getting appts with her. How easy/hard is it to get an appt with her for a second pregnancy? By this I mean, if she delivered your first baby, do you get priority to get an appt with her for your second pregnancy? Reason I ask is because in Australia, with some Ob/Gyn's, you do. Thanks! Hi Shellly, For second pregnancy it would be easy peasy. The "hold up" is just for new patients (well, that's how it works in OZ at least....):)

Hi nix.dubai. I have just managed to get an appt with Dr Elsa as well. I have been waiting for 3 months though and they have just called me back now. I will be 26 weeks by the time I actually see her in September and I am pregnant with twins. I believe if you call now that she isn't taking patients until December, but not 100% sure if this info is correct.

I am 42 with 2 boys, youngest is 8. I would like to have a girl. has anyone any experience of gender selection? I know it can be done here and the legalities are fine if you already have same *** children. How exactly does it work in practise? I read an article in the paper a couple of years ago about this (try searching on Gulf News "gender selection"). There are different types that you can do and they have different % success rates. Check some of the Fertility clinics out for info (I think it was Dubai Gyne and Fertility Clinic mentioned in the article - but I am sure some of the others do it too).

I opted not to have TB when I delivered my DS2 at Al Wasl. Lets just say that they were not impressed but too bad! I went to see Dr Keith Nicol who I really trust and he didn't seem to think it was necessary.

I had the twins at 38. Would you have more? I mean twins are a real handful and I can only imagine so much more difficult to deal in those first years. No. The twins are numbers three and four - so in total, I have DS1 - 6, DD1 - 2 and DD/DS2 - almost 1. That is enough!!! Guiness, I am in the same boat. We decided to go for number three at the beginning of the year, and, low and behold I am 5 months pregnant with twins. I am really worried about how I will cope as I currently have a 3 year old DS and an 18 month old DS. I need to hire some help - fast! Tru Blu, if you want to have a chat, send me an email at [email protected] Thanks. You've got mail. You can delete your email.

Yes a tenant pays because they are living in the house - in the UK tenants pay council tax don't they and I am sure other similar taxes apply in other countries? In Australia the landlord pays the rates, not the tenant (not having a whinge, just stating a fact ;)) edited by Tru Blu on 08/08/2011

My husband has been offered a job in Dubai with no schooling subsidy. Is this normal, as schooling is so expensive? total pay package offered is approx 27000aed monthly (this includes all allowances ie housing). Is it be possible to live in dubai on this wage as well as putting two 5yr olds thru school. I plan on getting a job once I get the kids settled, how hard is it for women to get a job in the middle east? edited by NZfamily on 04/08/2011 Personally, I think 27,000 is too low. If you are going to have to pay school fees, housing etc..... you just wont get by on that. I would think a minimum of about 32,000. How many children at school do you have?

I sent me children to my Parents-in-law for two weeks as a favor for them ( and the kids) When we skyped the kids this afternoon, my MIL had thought it would be a good idea to get my son's hair cut without asking me. He had beautiful long hair. I am fuming, Would you be upset? Unacceptable. Let her get away with it this once, but let her know, NOW, how you feel and that if she does it again, there will be big dramas! Edited to add: My MIL gave DS1 his first taste of solids!!!! Now that nearly sent me over the edge!!!! edited by Tru Blu on 05/08/2011

Licensed - hmmmm, In the Movenpick Hotel there is a lovely restaurant (called West Beach or something) on the ground leve. Would be nice for you and DH. Licensed too. Also, Pachanga in the Hilton is good. No need to sit down and have a full meal, you can sit in the lounge and order tapas all night. Frankies is a goodie too.

At least the little love is safe now. She will be traumatized for a very long time. How awful. I read an article on a Sydney news website this morning that said something about her high-profile Business man father doing voice recognition programmes etc for several government's around the world.... I was trying to figure out if the journalist was implying that there could be a connection.

Coincidentally the episode of Sherlock that just ended on BBC1 featured people being forced to wear explosive devices... Yeah - sometimes I wonder if TV/MOVIE content gives people these sick ideas, I am sure it contributes (not to mention all of the junk on the internet and some of the sick video games out there!)

I saw a big chunk of it while I was back in Aus recently. I love it and am firmly addicted too. Unfortunbately we don't have BBC Lifestyle, last time they aired it on MBC4 (they are showing re-runs of last season at the moment) fingers crossed they will show this next season too.

We used James Berry to draw up an interim guardianship document, this ensures the kids are looked after by our nominated guardian rather than polide custody etc, until such time the permanent guardian can arrive here. Do you know what the cost of this was? Also, did James Berry just draw up a guardianship doc or did they insist on doing an entire will? TIA

Finky, you know you have to let her go. Don't draw it out. Telling a young girl that she is fat is beyond shocking. Protect your daughter from her stupidity and send her packing. Out with the old, in with the new.
