Thank you Tru Blu - he is now licensed in Dubai so not need to travel up to Abu Dhabi which is great - he is quite expensive, but i am of the attitude, 'you pay peanuts, you get monkey'!!! do you know if he is good - i believe he is very good but would love to speak to someone who has used him! thanks again! I believe he has a very good success rate. Perhaps try doing a search on this board under "Fakih" loads of stuff will come up - he has been discussed several times in the last 2 years

Hello - I have just been told that I need to have IVF (I have a T Shaped uterus) and having done 2 IUIs at DGFC I thought it was about time to get a second opinion, so met with Dr Fakih, who diagnosed me rather than just pumping me full of pills - he has said I need to do ZIFT (IVF and TET combined) which is incredibly expensive, around AED35k, which is a huge amount, obviously I would gladly pay that to have a child, but wanted to know if anyone had used him, if he is good (his credentials seem to be amazing) and any advice?? Thank you ladies! I know he is expensive (I have not used him but know someone who has). Also, IVF needs to be done in Abu Dhabi as he is not licensed here. A lot of people recommend Conceive Clinic in Sharjah - apparently v.good and much more reasonably priced.

Suznz/CurlyOB Can you update us with your birth experiences at Al Wasl? I'm due there in about a month so would love the feedback and reassurance! Also, any hints and tips as to what to take in hospital bag? TIA Hi Sandy - how exciting!!!! Is it your first baby? I delivered at Al Wasl. If you want a private room, look at my posts from around Feb 2010 on the most likely way to ensure that you get one!!! If I were you, I would take bottled water (and lots of it) bizzarely I could never get my hands on water, I would take my own maternity pads (they give you these very uncomfortable surfboard things and you can't move in them, also take your own nappies for bub as the ones they provide are inadequate. Other than those things, just take the usual clothes, slippers, camera, phone and phone charge, a small amount of cash for coffee's etc and so on..... Good luck and I also look forward to hearing from Sunz and CurlyOB

Anyone NOT hungry? I have been reading everywhere that I'm supposed to have this ravenous appetite but until today, I am still forcing myself to eat a good dinner bigger than my M/S sized portions. Just wondering...I know its not that much of a cause for concern but am I alone? This is my 3rd pregnancy and I was not particularly hungry throughout the first two. This time around I have twins onboard and I am slightly more hungry, but definitely not ravenous. Just listen to your body - rest assured your baby will be getting what it needs from you. It takes from you first, and then you get whats left over. My two boys are the picture of health.

Shoyz, this is a difficult situation for you. I agree with the previous posters though. He is either lying about the blackouts to avoid taking responsibility for his actions, or he has big problems and needs to seek help. What do you think? What is your gut reaction? Sometimes we want to believe in the one that we are sharing our other life with, but deep down we know the truth. Either way, you need to take action or this will get worse.

Okay, so it is crunch time and I reallllllly need some home help. We are looking for a full-time live in helper. I was planning on going through an agency but I would really like to employ either a Sri Lankan or an Ethiopian lady. There were a few recommendations on this board (Anon Dubai mentioned an agency in Shajah) and another agency run by a lady called Grace has been mentioned several times, but neither of these agencies is contactable.... not sure why??? Does anyone know of an agency that provides live-in maids from Sri Lanka? Both Howdra and Explorer only supply Phillipino's TIA

To my knowledge, there is no-one who really specialises in burns here. Dressings are usually done by nurses and most clinics and hospitals would have an outpatient facility where you can go for daily dressings. The hospital that I worked at would usually refer burns to a plastic surgeon who would oversee things but the pediatric ward nurses would do the dressing on the child. There is a certain plastic surgeon that I would not recommend tho who was always very impatient and unkind to the kids. You could always go to Al Wasl Hospital and see if they offer that service. I don't know if you have insurance that would cover the dressings here, but if you don't, I think it would get really expensive going to a dr for daily dressings. I also found that my DD was less traumatised doing it at home. Maybe you could see Dr Nichol and see what he recommends. If you need any help, let me know. I am a peds nurse & have done loads of burns dressings even on my own child. Thank you Ladies. We have returned now and PMH Hospital were fabulous! They gave us plenty of stocks and carefully instructed my DH how to dress the wounds. I have an apt with Dr Nicol but I think we will manage it fine from home. I am glad that we opted to do it ourselves because the supplies are different and it would be very costly here.

Oh no :( Poor LO - what area are you in? We live JBR. We fly tonight so really want to be sorted and know what my options are. DH has just taken DS now for his final dressing at Princess Margaret Hospital here in Perth. After reading this thread I quickly called him and asked him to try and get some supplies if possible. Not sure if the hospital will comply though. kittycat71, the burns are on his chest and left arm.:( My regular Paed in Dubai is Dr Nicol, who I really like, but I don't think he would be doing the dressings himself. I was wondering if there was somewhere around that may specialize in burns. LJB2010 - do you know if that Dr at Cooper Clinic specializes in burns or is he a regular GP?

It should never have been taken to trial........the girl is obviously barking, of course she killed her baby....but in a more civilised legal system she would have been deemed not fit to plead. She belongs in a mental institution, not in jail. And in spite of a total circus of a trial, twelve ordinary human beings had more sense and compassion than all the lawyers, and all the legal and media pundits - it's not an ideal verdict, given the choices they had, but a fair one. The saddest people in the whole case are the poor, poor grandparents. My heart goes out to them. Totally agree. Any woman who kills her own child is insane. She should not have been allowed to enter a plea and stand trial. edited by Tru Blu on 06/07/2011

are they getting breastmilk? I think this gives them some level of protection too? Not 100% sure but I think this is only if mum has had chickenpox herself. Definitely worthwhile to chat with a Paed though, I can recommend Keith Nicol on Beach Rd if you don't already have one.

{{{BIG HUGS}}} My LO's just had chickenpox and I was so scared that I would get it (I am pregnant with twins) but I didn't. Apparently the very contagious part is before the rash breaks out so it may be worthwhile contacting a Paediatrician where you are just so that you have an action plan in the event that they get it to. Good luck!

To the OP, I went to see Cecile a couple of years ago with DS1. Unlike some of the other people in this thread, she had DH and I keep away from DS. We were not even allowed in the room. It was awful and I just couldn't really do it in the end. It broke my heart. I like Cecile personally, but I will not be doing CIO like that with any of my others.

Finale is definitely this Tuesday :) I know who won and unless they've improved amazingly in the last week that I haven't been watching it, I can't understand why :) Frankly it'll be a surprise to me whoever wins, no one was really anywhere near as good as Marion, and I find it incredibly unfair that they gave the likes of Jimmy and Courtney a second go after avoiding numerous challenges, and even letting Jonathan and Jimmey off the hook of one pressure test.... but not giving Marion another chance. But that's TV for you I suppose.... There's only one person in the last 3 I think comes even close to Marion. Would that be Adam? But even he and she are leagues apart... Claire is good too, but she plays it way too safe... There's nothing creative about the way she cooks. I prefer Claire to Adam, myself, I don't like his style at all. But the one whose success escapes me is Callum - OK, he's very young, but he makes incredibly elementary mistakes and is nowhere near in the same league as Marion. I know but Callum is so young, only 21. Just a baby. He has NO confidence and yes, makes some silly mistakes, but didn't we all at that age? Anyway, have we figured out which day the final is on yet? edited by Tru Blu on 29/05/2011

I like the big Life Pharmacy on Al Wasl Road (up near the Emirates Bank - almost in Line with the Burj Kahlifa). Great variety on all sorts of things and they stock all of the Avalon Organics skin care ranges etc.... They often have very good deals on their skin care and cosmetics as well, such as buy 2, get one free.

I was admitted to Al Wasl at 29 weeks with DVT and there was a question if they would even admit me then as I was not booked there. Luckily they did, but it is worth booking and registering before the 28 week. I found the care very good but will let you know about the delivery in hopefully a few weeks time! Just over 37 weeks now! All my appointments have been at the hospital, but I think that is because I'm high-risk. So far I've found the staff to be very helpful especially at the FMMU and the scans. Just waiting the labour now - so will let you know!! Hope all is going well! edited by suznz on 26/05/2011 Goodluck susnz. There is A LOT of fluffing around to open a joint account here. Most of my girlfriends are not joint account holders with their DH's because of all messing around. I can't remember what we needed to provide exactly, but DH had to sign his name about 20 times! I was thinking at the time that it is not really the done thing here. I don't think he can add you as a secondary account holder. My understanding is that it is all or nothing.

I too was on 3 feeds a day, so fed DS1 in the morning and then went to the hospital ( c-section) to have DS2....hardest thing I have ever had to do.... My Ds never self weaned but i think self weaning has a lot to do with mommy being too tired during preg and not being as cuddly as she was....so LO's just are considerate and give up... wow! that is impressive...!

It's my understanding that it's OK if you've had it- but definitely worth talking to GP. Can you find out from someone at home if you had it? Yes, trying to get hold of my mum but that ain't easy!!!! I have left messages at Al Wasl but they want me to go in - and I can't. DH is overseas at the moment and I am in-between helpers..... so I can't drag around two highly contagious boys with my while I sit and wait 2 hours at Al Wasl. I have also left a message with my OB/GN in Australia, but they are closed now so will have to wait until tom. I just thought there may be someone on the board who has been in the same situation and may be able to ease my mind until such time as I can speak to someone reliable. BTW, I did ask the Paed who diagnosed (if you can call it that) my children this morning and she dismissed it and told me not to worry. Then I came home and started googling - which is when I got a bit worried......

The longer the crawling period the better your LO's overall co-ordination will be later in life. It has something to do with left-brain/right-brain. An Italian researcher did a huge study in the 80's (think his name was Delacatto - you can google) and it showed that kids who crawled for the longest were better at reading and writing when they got to school. Equally the study found that children who only had a very small craling period (or didn't crawl at all) struggled more with reading and writing when they reached school. Not sure how much truth there is to the above but interesting none the less....

Perhaps try feeding for a couple of minutes, then burp him (he will not be happy at the interruption of course but just keep patting his back or whatever until you hear him burp) and then feed again for a couple of minutes and burp..... Someone suggested this to me and it worked so may be worth a shot for you too.

Congrats Tru Blu on expecting twins! Wow, that must be both daunting and exciting. When are you due? If you're having twins, I would say AW is *definitely* the best choice. Re: private room.. I actually got one both times I delivered at AW. Apparently the key is for your dh to request one asap as soon as labour is underway (or as soon as you check in for your cs). In fact we also mentioned it as soon as I registered in the little office downstairs upon arrival. Both times I was on a ward for the 1st night (but apparently this is normal if you have a cs as you need to be closely monitored) but moved on day 2 and stayed in a private room for the rest of the time. Does anyone know what the deadline for antenatal registration is? Thank you Karen. Yes, when I delivered DS at Al Wasl I gave DH the one mission to get me a private room, and he did so thank goodness. I am pretty sure the registration deadline is before 28 weeks, but only 90% sure. Thanks for sharing - good to know about the emcs
