Thank you ladies, guess I will see how he does in the assessments and if he gets offered a place then decide! wwake, I held my son back a year and it is the best thing I have ever done. I did have a hard time getting him into a good school, but I persevered and am so happy now. Little boys thrive being the eldest in the class. If he is your first born you should definitely consider it (they are usually more sensitive and less resilient than second, third, fourth etc children). .

I used Howdra. It was 4000 for a month (I needed for 3 months so it can work out expensive) but it is legal. Girls from Howdra are generally good.

I haven't heard of one. My sister's little boy has ABA in Australia where insurance is pretty good and even there it is not covered. Hopefully someone will have some good information for you as I know that it is crazy expensive. edited by Tru Blu on 20/01/2014

thanks shelo Di, there is no real way out of the x-ray but the last two times I have told the Dr that there is a possibility that I am pregnant so I have not had to do it. My husband however can not get out of it.

In this post one thing truly amazing i have learnt is... how can one BF while walking... i breastfed my child for 2 years and never once considered doing it while walking, it was not easy in the best of situations in public, but while walking... really??? I had four children in 3.5 years and trust me, I breast fed while walking around the house, haha. I wouldn't do it in public though, especially in this neck of the woods.

I have had 3 C-sections. First time round I was adamant that I wanted a natural birth, my baby however did not agree. After going through 6 hours of contractions and then winding up having a C-section anyway the recovery was quite bad. The second time I elected to have a C-section as baby was the wrong way around and the third pregnancy was twins, so after 2 previous C-sections I didn't really have a choice. Anyway, I couldn't care less and now believe that there is much to be said for C-sections. I do think "natural" is the best way to go where possible as there are less risks generally and also less risk of PND, but there are advantages to c-sections. I bonded with my four babies just fine and trust me, I feel like I gave birth to all of them and didn't miss out on a thing. There are enough things in the world to beat yourself up about, just do what works.

It probably would have been better to try a sleep over or two before the new baby arrived, then the little girl would not have felt like she was being palmed off. I have to agree with QueenL though, this is far too young for a sleep over. I have 4 kids (the eldest is 5.5 years) and even he has not had a sleep over yet, just not ready. I always remember someone telling me that if you want to get an idea of what it would be like to be the existing sibling when a new baby comes home, try imagining what it would be like if your husband bought home a new wife! hmmmm Some kids take it much harder than others and she obviously falls into this category.

Thanks for the replies. I would have been interested in buying your book Jules.....but AR is quite a distance from me and I don't have a car at the moment. I've just ordered the book on the Book Depository website using my home address here (no postbox number). Hope this works ok. oh no, sorry, I don't think it will. How long ago did you place the order? contact them straight back and tell them not to send it to the address you put on. You won't get it. Do you know someone who has a PO Box? can you have it sent to your work? or your DH's?

We do it although it is definitely a bit of a grey area. Your DH has to speak to the big guy at the immigration who will hopefully sign off on it. It helps if you have special circumstances like several children or a massive house I think. At the end of the day they will be getting another 6000 dirhams from you so they probably won't make it too hard.

Down near Toy Store. If you went through the entrance there (I think Gloria Jeans is there too) you would come to the main walk and turn left. It is up about 20metres on your left. Got mine last week and love love love them! eta - they have a Dubai facebook page so you can check them out on there. edited by Tru Blu on 29/12/2013

Hi Ladies, I've read several threads about this but not needed to remember until now. I have had enough of my maid & am sending her home. The visa cancellation is all taken care of, what I need some guidance with please is how do I ensure she goes through immigration & is therefore no longer under our care? She does not know she is being sent home, so I'm guessing will be quite upset, but I no longer care, I have put up with enough from her. At terminal 1, only passengers can go through the baggage screening before checking in, so how can I make sure she goes? Any experience & guidance regarding this will be really helpful. TIA My friend's husband explained the same situation to an officer at terminal 1 and was allowed to go through beyond the normal checkpoint. Actually, I think it was terminal 2 but either way, I think they generally understand the importance of a sponsor ensuring that the person actually leaves.

Thanks Tru Blu. We've been told by DH's new PRO that we will have to pay the amount again unfortunately. Such a waste of money, but we'll ask the PRO if he can plead our case - no harm in trying. Definitely put pressure on the PRO. Failing that, get your DH to go along to Al Manara DRND and there is a guy there that can waiver it, sorry I don't remember his name though. The only reason he didn't do it for us is because my husband's new company was in the Sharjah SAIF zone, otherwise he said he would have. This happened in August so not too long ago.

I never post on these things but may I suggest you delete all of this because many teachers read this forum… she might pick up on it and inform and warn your husband. Good luck in whatever you end up doing! Agree. I think it's time to delete for the OP's protection.

My nephew is also on the spectrum and ABA has worked wonders for him. I also agree with joannat2009 that caution needs to be taken and certainly these therapies are not for all kids on the spectrum.

nope. when you change company and change your visa, a deposit is placed by the company that are going to issue a new visa to ' secure' all dependants including domestic staff. Once the sponor gets a new visa, the deposit is then returned to the company and all is good., a new visa is not issued. Your DH Must tell his new employer that he has a maid and anyone else on his visa. They will take care of it. happened with us when my husband changed jobs. Just to add, during the time your DHs visa is being processed, all dependants are not allowed to travel. Hope this makes sense ! I am pretty sure it change at the beginning of 2013. I believe that you can no longer pay the deposit to put the visas on hold. onthemoveagain I am pretty sure that you that there is a way around it if your DH or his PRO pleads your case to the right person. We have had to pay a small fortune to sponsor our two maids this year as we sponsored them in May and then my husband moved to a Sharjah based company in July, and they would not transfer the sponsorships.

Check with the owner of the UK account if they have PayPal set up with that account. That would be my preference, especially for a small amount. No transfer fees, just the exchange rate. thank you all Ladies. Chucky Ducky, this is what I did and I don't think I have ever done anything so easy! cheers!

Hi Sparkly - can I ask you some advice? I am in the process of being diagnosed with some inner ear problems. My ENT wants to do a series of tests at the Advanced Hearing and Balance Centre, as well as an MRI. It appears I have have had these problems for 4 -5 years now that we are coming closer to a diagnosis - which was spurred on by a trip to Atlantis 2 weeks ago when I went down a water slide that was pitch black and it went around and around. By the time I got to the bottom I wanted to vomit - I have been feeling dizzy and sick multiple times a day every day since. My question is - is an MRI too far fetched? is this a money making scheme? What I have is not so serious, very annoying I must say as it often affects my work, but I been able to trace back very definite signs of major dizziness 'attacks' and often feeling sick very suddenly for 4 -5 years. SO, I wan to get rid of this because the last 2 weeks have been rotten, but are MRI's too much? They cost $$$ (not to mention the the balance tests will cost at least 1600aed). What do you think? PN my mum has Menieres and finds it so hard to fly that she just can't bear the thought of catching a plane. In the 5 years I have lived here she has not visited and I wouldn't put any pressure on her to do so, but just wondering if there is anything that helps you with the flights?

I would DEFINITELY choose Family and Friends over Jebel Ali. I don't know anything about Toddler Town so can't comment on that one. the lady who runs F&F, Joanne, is lovely. She use to be a teacher at Cello, Al Fattan a few years ago and my son just loved her. I have friends who have had children at Jebel Ali and while they don't seem to mind it, none of them love it.

You are clearly doing too much. Stop doing the exercise on your own, replace it with something you enjoy like a sport or spa or read a book or whatever makes you happy. And consider that you might be sick with something else? Have you had a full physical? I haven't had a full physical but i have had a bunch of blood tests, i will give this ago. I try and go for a massage most weeks, so its not like i don't treat myself. Anything else strange? Any other symptoms? People tend to go straight for depression but I think depression is usually a symptom of something else ... I've been depressed before and it was brought on by bereavement, recently it was the result of being chucked into the menopause unnecessarily by an incompetent doctor, followed by a miscarriage. Now personally i feel good and interested in my life i just feel tired all the time. Perhaps it is something underlying but i haven't noticed other symptoms. that does sound horrendous. I am glad you are recovering mentally but perhaps your hormones are completely out of wack still? have you had them checked? I imagine it would take a very long time to get right again after going through what you mentioned above. There are some great vitamins for re-balancing womens hormones. I think agnus cactus and evening primrose are both really good but I think you need to seek professional advice before you start taking anything.

Eajla, I would recommend Dr Elsa. She did my 3rd C-section when I had my twins 2 years ago and she is amazing. She actually told me that I could easily have another C-section (something to do with the position of my bladder etc...) however I have 4 kids and there is NO WAY I will be having more!!! She will probably be fully booked as usual but just keep ringing and even accept a later appointment and then switch to her when you can get in. Good luck!

Ladies, does anyone know the queuing time if I go first thing on a weekday? Tx I went at 2pm last Tuesday and there was no-one (I mean no-one) in front of me! I was all geared up with snacks, drink and activities as I thought I would be standing there for a couple of hours. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised!

We have ordered from Jones the Grocer this year but they only had a few booking left a month ago so probably full now. Last year we ordered from Galleries Lafayette and they were reasonable, but if we had have missed out on Jones I would have ordered from the Meydan Hotel this year, apparently they do a great job. edited by Tru Blu on 08/12/2013

we spent a month there in July and although I loved it, I have to admit that I was concerned for my four young children (the twins were 18 months at the time). Lots of mozzies, sanitation and hygiene are also lacking. I wouldn't do it with a 2 month old and I wouldn't want to give a 2 month old any more vaccinations than it absolutely has to have at that age. Just my opinion :-)

You can get a temporary (but legal) temporary live-in Maid from an agency like Howdra or Explorer. It is 4000 a month (well, it was 12 months ago when I needed extra help). It's quite expensive I suppose but it could be good while you are sorting yourself out. You may find after a few months that you can do it on your own.
