it's a tough one, they both sound pretty harsh. I have four little kids and just flat out refused to do anything this year (just a little trip) because I couldn't face the long hauls. I think you will be fine with the 2 kids though. I would opt for the 2 stops. Which flight path is less air time? the stops can be good but 1 or 2 hours is not really enough time to feel like a break. You may find your LO's freak when they realize they are getting back on the plane. Good luck. It is usually worse in theory than in practice.

thank you for the replies ladies. much appreciated . Long, my husband has been told to cancel all of our visas here in Dubai, and then give our passports to his PRO (who apparently is pretty useless) and then he will apply for our new visas in the SAIF zone. Does this sound right to you? My husband's company may even pay for the families visas however our Maid, who we only just sponsored, is naturally at our expense.

Apparently it is no longer possible to put visas on hold - which is a real nuisance as we sponsored a Maid less than a month ago and my husband is changing employers. His old company is Dubai based and his new company is in the Sharjah safe zone. Does anyone know if there is a way around us paying another 5000+ for the sponsorship costs?

Could anyone kindly give an idea of cost for pest control - either a contract or one-off call out? Thanks. 350-450 for a 3/4 bedroom villa.

I guess I thought during the interview that her English was okay and only later realized that she probably didn't understand a word I said. She knows a few words but to be honest, I don't have a great deal of time on my hands. I really need someone who just gets it all very quick. TB, if you are pushed for time then you won't have time to teach a maid english. I'm just sending my maid home as I made that mistake. I work and I have to say it's been really stressful. You need to be around a lot and be very patient. And lets face it, with 4 small children you won't have enough time! Good luck. Yes, she is a nice girl and is actually quite good. I think she would be really good if someone had the time and patience to train her.

I really don't mean to sound alarmist , and there are many mothers who have successfully had several C sections, butnhaving even one does raise the risk of a ruptured womb in subsequent pregnancy........and that is not a possibility be taken lightly. I speak from painful and terrifying experience, Please give yourself time to heal...........and listen to your medical advisor. Gosh that sounds awful!!!!!

Why not take her to the Emirati Restaurant in Festival City? The food hotels serve can be eaten anywhere, only the ambiance and height of buildings might be different lol. If she wants a taste of cultural take her to a local place. yes, this was my initial thought and what I usually do, but apparently she is largely vegetarian although not entirely, and Arabic cuisine is often quite meaty (apart from all of the delicious starters)

thanks Ladies, okay sounds good. I haven't been to Baker and Spice but it could work well. Mcsk, have you heard of Tiptahra? does that also have views of the fountain? DH loves thai food and we have also heard good things about that. I am also keen on the Armani Japanese restaurant, mmmmmm Otherwise I was thinking Barsta Art Cafe and a walk around the old town.

Yes, they are saying no refunds for my children blondie, how much have you paid? you should be eligible for part of the refund back. i know that Safa school refund part of the deposit (the part that holds the place for the next year). It is about 1700 of the 3500. Can you mention the school?

We have just started the process to sponsor a new Maid but she is on a tourist or visit visa and will have to switch to the employment visa so must exit the country. I have heard Kish is an option as well as Muscat. Can anyone recommend either? She is from Srilanka if that makes any difference... TIA Trublu - my maid did the visa run yesterday with her new employment documents. All she had to do was fly from DXB to Muscat, go through transit and reboard a all in one day. No problems. My previous maid told me that you need to wear a full abaya and head cover in Kish. I paid 575 for her round trip ticket to Muscat. thanks bblue. I am looking at the flight times. Did you book the 7am flight and return at 5.30pm?

My housekeeper will go home in October after many years service with me and I will pay her gratuity even though there is no legal obligation to do so - she has worked hard, been honest, used initiative and I am almost in tears at the thought that she is leaving but it is time for her to move on with her life and get married and start her family now and I hope that the gratuity will help her on her way - she has made my life easier in so many ways!!! yes, in this case I would do the same. I will give my Maid a bonus but she has only been with us for 17 months so will see.

I took my maid twice, in 2003 and 2005. What is all of this about? Oh that's interesting. I tried a year ago and wasn't able to. They must have done it in the past, then stopped and now re-instated it I would be interested to know the criteria though

Lewis we ordered the one below http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-GB02480-Survivor-Extreme-duty-Generation/dp/B004SPVZKW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1367142775&sr=8-2&keywords=griffin+ipad+case it is completely childproof (they are built for the militart!), but not sure about the underwater part, just read the info. I have not seen them here but you can easily order online.

Thank you for your responses. I went to Safa this morning and the Registrar (actually I think it was her assistant) was very nice and accepted my application but they have a wait list, so I am kinda in the same boat I guess. Poppy I have spoken to the Registrar at Horizon and she is very nice, but I do feel like they could have offered his a spot. My son is kind and bright (99% of the time ;-)) and I guess I just can't help but take it all personally.

Thank you Poppy. I was really surprised not to be offered a place at Horizon, I have spoken with the Registrar but still not really sure what went wrong. Even though I had his name down 2+ years ago, they don't have a cap on the number of applications submitted so I may have just as well submitted his application a month before the assessments. The result would be the same. Victory Heights would take me about 40 minutes to get to (I think - I am in Umm Suqeim 1). This wouldn't be an issue if I didn't have 18 month old twins and a 3 year old.... Has anyone heard about Safa school, I have tried calling but can't get through on the phone ever. This whole experience is depressing

When did u put their names for FS2?? U might try Victory Heights and Gems Al Khail as said by the previous post. I put his name down at both schools when he was 2.5 years old. thank you for the suggestions Ladies, I will check these out now. If you put his name down at that age and did not get into those school then something is wrong there....Perhaps your application got misplaced? My son had an assessment at both schools, and they assure me that he passed these assessments, but neither school has managed to offer him a spot. He is on both waitlists.....
