I delivered at the city around 3 months back with Dr. Elsa ( from the UK) .... she is simply the best .... I was mighty close to a C-section ... she made natural birth possible !!! The doctor is brilliant and the midwives at the labour ward are very caring and helping ... my midwife even massaged my back to bring some relief to my excruciating back pain during labor .... Completely love them all ... would def go back to Dr. Elsa and the city hospital. Completely agree. I had my twins there 6 months ago with Dr Elsa. Fabulous care both pre and post delivery.

Hi Tru Blu, can you tell me costs and what did they do? Laser? Did you need to stay in hospital after surgery? Thank you. sorry, just read your post. To be honest I don't really know what they did. I had loads of puncture marks up my legs and there was significant bruising afterwards. They removed them somehow. I still require 2-3 sessions of injections to make my pins perfect ;) Do you have insurance? my insurance covered the lot - it was about 40,000 for the operation and maybe 5000 for the scans pre and post. I had to stay overnight in hospital. You can choose a general anaesthestic or spinal block (I chose the latter as I am still breast feeding). HTH - let me know if you have any more Q's

I have 4 young children who take it in turns of tormenting me each and every night. For as long as I can remember (and particularly the past 6 months since my twins were born) I get a very interrupted 3-6 hours a night. My body has adjusted though and I seem to function reasonably well. Day napping is not an option and I just seem to soldier on, although I do loads of silly things during the day which I blame on my sleep deprivation ;)

We are going to AD with couple of 5 year olds to see the art exhibition on Saadiyat Island this Friday and looking for a nice place for lunch afterwards. Any suggestions please? Not hotel buffet though. TIA! The One - excellent and fine for little ones but it's in Abu Dhabi edited by Tru Blu on 04/06/2012

I had big veins arise during my second pregnancy, and during my last pregnancy (twins) they got even worse. I had them removed less than a month ago with Dr Sorbeh at City as well. I am very happy with the final result.

Star in Umm al shief is full but how about trying Star Mirdiff? I've heard it is easier to get in there. Also the new American Collegiate school in Umm Sequim and Braedeten prep or whatever it is called I believe also has spaces. Good luck Yes true, but CAS is 65,000 from year 1 onwards!!!!

We have just been told that our 3 year old DS needs to wear prescription glasses. I took his to see Dr Habash at American Hospital and was personally very happy with him, but DH wants us to get a second opinion (he is not convinced there is anything wrong with his eyesight). Does anyone have any suggestions? TIA

We had a filter fitted to the kitchen sink and we use the filtered water for cooking and making tea. But I wash up in normal tap water, I did try the Brita, using it on the already filtered water in the kitchen - but the tea I made with it tasted vile, like all the water taste had been stripped out. I can't get myself to drink plain tap water (even filtered), so we get bottled for plain drinking - even though there is probably plastic contamination in it. If I'm in a hurry and the filter tank in the kitchen hasn't refilled, then I will use tap water to fill the pan to boil veg/make rice (and we're not dead yet). Take basic precautions but probably best not to think about it too much. what filter do you have? can anyone recommend a good one? I have been thinking about getting one for a while now. edited by Tru Blu on 24/05/2012 edited by Tru Blu on 25/05/2012

I'm not sure how the valuations work but if you get it soon I think the CGT is calculated from when you got the valuation. All very grey really. I'm waiting for the realestate agent to give me the details of a valuer. Maybe email the ATO. If you get a comprehensive valuation it is also good for calculating your depreciation for tax purpose anyway. Let's blame Julia for the confusion! edited by TimTam on 24/05/2012 I couldn't agree more, we should definitely blame Julia :)

Marcellene's Hatha yoga classes at Dubai Ladies Club (Tuesdays @ 10am, Sundays & Wednesdays @ 6pm) are great! The classes are a bargain at only 50aed per session and you don't have to have a membership to take a single class. The ladies only atmosphere at DLC is very relaxed. I think it's one of the best bargains in Dubai. thanks for posting this. I have been wanting to get back into yoga for a while now and live nearby so will be popping in to check it out very soon. :)

Congratulations!!!! I wanted a girl with DS2 but I ended up with another boy - happy to report he is the love of my life and I wouldn't change him for the world. There are pro's and con's to each scenario. I always think it is quite nice for the parents to get a pigeon pair, but probably nicer for the children to have a same *** sibling. All the best x

Hi, if you are not worried about the night life then Alaska will be perfect. It is scenically stunning. I just love it. A perfect choice for your varied ages as well. I only worked onboard Princess and Cunard so can not recommend any other cruise lines. But IMO both are excellent, obviously Cunard is the crème de la crème but Princess also has very high standards (well, at least they did when I was working for them). I worked onboard the Diamond, the Sea and the Sapphire. If you decide to go with Princess let me know what vessel it is and I will let you know what the ship is like. Queen Mary 2 would be too big to fit through many of the Fjords like Tracey Arms so I don’t think that would be your best choice anyway. I never cruised Alaska onboard QM2 so I don’t even know if she ventures there. My favourite places were Glacier Bay, Ketchikan, Skagway and the capital Juneau is nice too. In fact, I liked all of the places that we visited in Alaska, you can’t really go wrong (there are some amaxing shore excursions you can do from all of these ports as well) Most itineraries will cover the hotspots but be warned, it all depends on sailing conditions and you may not get to go where the itinerary states. Any more questions, just let me know. edited by Tru Blu on 07/05/2012

Hi, I worked for Princess 2003-2006 and after that Cunard. Alaska cruising is breathtaking and I highly recommend it. Just to let you know, the average age of passengers cruising Alaska is about 58 years so the nightclubs onboard are usually pretty quiet in the wee hours (just in case you want to party hard!). If you decide to cruise Alaska, let me know and I can let you know the "must see" places to try and get on your itinerary. ;)

Agree with everything kiwi has said...I also have a love/hate relationship with the dummy! DS only has it for sleep or if he needs soothing (eg fallen over and hurt himself). His dummies are attached to cloths to make them easier to find at night, but before he could do this I was up every 45 minutes at one point and wanted to throw them out the window! I'm hoping one day he'll do what a friend of mine's baby did. She just one day said "dummy caca" and so her Mum said, ok, throw it away and she did and never asked for it again!! LOL Thanks sydneygal. Do you recall how old your DS was when you had to get up every 45 mnutes? My little guy is nearly 6 months and it hasn't been too bad so far (touch wood). Also, do you know at what age they are capable of finding it themselves?

thanks for the replies Ladies. It is actually very reassuring to read what you all wrote. I think I will just let him suck happily away and keep it is a sleep cue. Supper Granny paid me a visit a few weeks ago and she reckons that it only takes a night to take off them. I will just cross that bridge when I come to it.

My 4 year-old DD still sleeps with a dummy all night and her teeth are perfectly fine. She has had a few dental examinations and no dentist has ever seen a problem. IMHO, it is a myth that pacifiers are bad for teeth. Thanks Anon. I remember reading one of your posts ages ago (maybe your previous username even) and you mentioned that one of your children had major sleeping problems. Is this the 4 year old DD you are referring to? did you give her the dummy to try and help her settle herself back to sleep instead of you? do you think that the dummy helped her to sleep better overall? You may be right about the myth factor, especially considering that it is my Grandma who is most concerned about the dummy use.

Hands down the best high chair is the Ikea antilop, dirt cheap and super easy to clean. I so agree with this!!! I bought the very posh Bloom Chair in the UK (they have it here at Just Kidding), only to get it covered in spaghetti stains & it was so much more fiddly to clean! The IKEA one is basic but sturdy, easy to clean & if it starts to look too ugly, just replace it as they're so cheap! We even load ours into the back of the car in pieces & take it on camping trips... Yes, I agree with the above. Don't waste your money on the expensive ones, the ikea one is the best.

I know Health Bay Clinic or polyclinic or something like that on Al Wasl Rd in Umm Suqeim have fully registered midwifes that will come to you for about 10,000 a month and work a 12 hour shift. It is very expensive I know, but maybe they could help you to sort your little guy out. I haven't used the service myself, I just made enquiries as I have also struggled with my 5 month old twins. I know where you are. DS2 was esactly the same, it was a nightmare but fortunately I was not working at the time. I hope you get it sorted. Good luck

Sydney is WAY more expensive for housing! We live in a similar suburb in Sydney to our home in Perth and our rent is double! The housing market is fairly flat so depending on how long you are here buying may be economical. Food is slightly cheaper in Sydney than Perth, but way more expensive than in Dubai. Eating out is just plain expensive anywhere in the country.. Fuel is between $1.30 and $1.60 per litre. Sorry, I disagree and if you look at the figures you will see that Perth and Sydney are pretty much on par in terms of rentals and buying as well. You must have a good deal in Perth, lucky you!

I can't really advise on the package, but I would like to add that Perth is probably the most expensive city in Australia in terms of food and housing. When I am home I regularly fly between Melbourne and Perth and Perth is by far more expensive. Of course Sydney is up there too!

thank you GoodMorning, I managed to download your file. As Monkey Face suggested, my next problem is creating the skype account.... hmmmmm, actually, I guess I could just ask my Maid to get her family in Sri Lanka to set up the new skype account and provide her with the login details, would that work? Yes it will work, anyone can create an account for you outside the UAE. edited by Monkey Face on 26/04/2012 Great thanks!
