Taxis are super cheap, if you find a good one then worth perhaps trying to book him for repeat journeys - call 600535353 will be 4 mins from the call - or check out with your new job if anyone can car share with you?

Hi Frazzle, Welcome to Abu Dhabi - i would suggest that you look at Raha Gardens, Al Reef, and Sas Al Nakheel for starters as in KCA is not really compound living with pools and parks and shops etc, yes there are some compounds but not with facilities like the above mentioned. Good Luck with your move!

You are a kind person so you cannot understand why someone would act in this manner to you especially as you have been so giving. The harsh but true reality is you are best getting rid of her asap as she has lost respect for you, this will not ever come back. May i ask how old she is? Perhaps better for you to find an employee (not a companion) who is older and will not want to disrespect your boundaries and home in this manner. You live and you learn and your son will not be affected by a maid change. please do not give in to her and give her more money to stay as you are better off rid. Would your employer let you behave in the manner that she has done? Good Luck x

Thank you for the quick reply i have a query - would putting a different DOB on the booking cause a problem for when she does have to fly [i'>2. make separate booking for your daughter, but put DOB as she is over 12. In this case you will pay an adult fare[/i'>. I am happy to pay the adult fare as there really is not much of a difference TIA

Agree with Purple - but the long day not so much so - many people work very long hours and then have top drive back from Dubai or abu dhabi do dinner etc It makes me mad that the moodiness is so prevelant in maids - i would get the sack if i was like that to my boss

We have just done the exact same for our new maid who was on a tourist visa - pink visa entry permit was painless to get - our PRO did for us and then 500aed for a flight to Oman which left in the afternoon and came back the same evening - she did not even leave muscat airport - and then entered in on our employment visa. Simples - no need for all this ridiculousness of Kish Island and Hotels. Also maids cannot drive across the Omani borders as they need a visa to enter the country - so check sky scanner and get cheap flights to Muscat done this week!!! Wouldn't she also need a visa to enter Oman via plane, or is that handled differently? Can I get her a visa to enter via car? If so, how? No she would never leave the airport edited by Twinkle12 on 06/11/2012

I know that MAC will come to our house and do your make up for around 400 aed, as for hair and nails - best ot go to your local salon and get that done first, (i use Kazumi - Millenium Al Whada), and as for clothing I would say worth a trip to Dubai - Harvey Nics or Blooingdales who will have personal shoppers to find something for your style (even if you do not buy anything from them I am sure that you can get a pretty good idea of examples). Good Luck!

If you convert 22,000 per month to GB pounds you are looking at 4,000 GBP sterling per month - TAX FREE. I know for a fact that in london you would be hard pushed to get that salary these days. If other women on here feel that is too little to live on then maybe we should just check ourselves slightly! You CAN get decent cheaper nurseries and also live in maids are around 1,500 aed per month which would reallly help you enormously - and I certainly would not be able to have a helper back in the UK. Schooling may come in the package - and if not then it is still doable. you do not have to live in the centre of town but woudl be able to get above average sized houing in Khalifa City / al Reef / MBZ which woudl be much bigger than back home. Or indeed - most of my friends live in Dubai which is definately cheaper than AUH and you get more bang for your buck (and also i know fora fact that most of them take the loan from the company and pay them back mothly as you would at home - for rent) Yes you probably would not be at champagne brunch every week - but god - why would you want to when you have the beach and pools that your little one would LOVE to spend time at. I think that you would be giving your child an amazing start in life and also there are some of us here that are able to live (God forbid) on less than 50,000 AED per month!!!! Go For it darling x

have u ever tried pizza on khuboos (arabic bread) its quick and delicious jst spread pizza sause (try dolmio/ragu's) add sliced onion, tomato, capscicum, black olives and yop off with mozarella cheese bake in preheated oven till cheese is melted Arabic Bread is fresh, cheap and easy to use and also healthy. Grill one side first lightly and then lash on olive oil nad also dolmio and garlic and then you can literally add anything that you like (roasted veg/chicken/ ham and mushroom/peperoni/mixed cheses) and add oregano to the top - grill again and then add freshly chopped basil - YUM!!

Lemon Marscapone Cheese Cake • Bash digestive biscuits into crumbs. • Melt big lump of BUTTER (not marg – that is horrible stuff) • Slowly pour in the butter and mix into the biscuit – until nicely all coated. • Get a baking tin with a spring bottom (removable bottom) • Grease with tiny amount of butter for sliding out purposes. • Shove in the biscuit base base base the buttery biscuit base • Even out and press down with a spoon • Lash in fridge for an hour or so. 1 x tub of Philidelphia 1 x LARGE tub of Marscapone 1x juice of lemon 1 x Juice of Lime (you can always grate the zest as well) Mix all these together in large bowl with wooden spoon Then add the Icing sugar Until you get to a sweetness that you are happy with pending on taste – I don’t like to use too much. Shove on top of the biscuit base and chill for as long as you can – like 2 hours or so. Shove whatever fruit you like on top and dust with icing sugar. I also make a fruit coulis using a tin of summer fruits and blend this and heat in saucepan with lime juice to drizzle over in an Art house tragically hip type of way……. VOILA!!!!!!!!

she does not want to work for us anymore as I will not let her sleep with her boyf in my house.............I was just wondering can she just go like that or does she at least have to work a notice period. Both DH and I work full time and have a child that needs looking after so am needing some time at least to get someone else!

No we have always treated her as one of the family, but many issues have arisen over the past few weeks and things like not getting up until 8am or doing any ironing etc and the moods have all come to a head in an argument yesterday......it all very childish behaviour!

We have had issues with our maid and she is threatening to pack her bags and leave to go the the Embassy tomorrow in retaliation. I cannot do this at my work so am wondering if there is any laws in place that she would have to give a notice period. She still has 5 months left on her contract. Any advice would be really appreciated!
