it's also worth considering your accommodation situation here--are you paying for it yourselves/ topping up an allowance? it might be cheaper to ship your stuff than to pay for furnished here for a year or 2.
We shipped all our furniture and are glad we did--we've had to get a few things here but not much
there's a lot of 2nd hand stuff around but its surprising how well it holds it value--I've seen stained (i.e. spoilt) IKEA tables being sold for more than they cost new in the UK!--hopefully that will change when IKEA opens here
There are good deals to be had but you need to be able to bide your time to find them
if you know you'll be here for a while it may be worth planning ahead a bit and bringing things that are harder to get here--bikes etc in the next size up for your kids?
that's really useful thanks--have just posted similar question on doha mums so hopefully some of them wil be able to tell me what it's like once you're in! Dh just going to negotiate with agent tmrw, looks like will either be there or Palm Gardens--can;t wait to get it all sorted...
